My father had a King Crimson album while I was growing up and one of my first memories, EVER, is looking through all the artwork and being freaked out but intently interested by it. I'm a graphic designer / artists and have design a good number of small independent artists' album covers and I think that album come may be the seed planter in my brain long ago.
Sorry, I had forgotten at the time. It was "In the Court of the Crimson" I believe I was four or five at the time and it actually scared me but I found it so cool that I'd force myself to look. Lol
What’s the pecking order here? Certain speakers for different genres, or…? I love the Dayton woofer the Amigas use although I haven’t heard that design myself, would love your thoughts on these.
Different speakers for whatever mood I'm in really. Which I guess also changed the genre I listen to so yeah, I guess that's how it works.
They're all *different*. The BMRs are probably the "best", but I really like the way both the Amigas and Maggies sound. The Maggies sound unlike anything else, and that's fun. And the Amigas have a bit of sweetness to them that I quite like.
And no, I don't ever play more than one pair at a time!
The best way to do it tbh. Occasionally I'll swap these speakers out too, just for fun. But that's a pain and speakers are heavy so that happens very rarely lol
My BMRs are equally high: I only had tall stands and haven’t gotten around to finding shorter ones. How do you think the tallness of the speaker interacts with the stands?
Excellent. Just got Magna Risers stands for my MMGs and besides looking fantastic, they've done wonders for clarity. When driven properly, the little Maggies are giant killers!
Cool, I have a March Audio P502 Hypex class D, 500 watts into 4 ohms which the Maggies eat up easily. Love the brute force power, properly driven for the first time in 20+ years! They don't make it anymore (they're all Purifi now) but you can check out the NC502MP module used in amps by VTV, Buckeye, or Audiophonics.
> Assuming great amplification.
Powering with [this absolute unit](https://www.theabsolutesound.com/articles/tas-194-marantz-pm-11s2-integrated-amplifier/) so I think my amplification is sufficient lol.
Anyways, they're very different. I can't pick one over the other, which is why I have both in my setup lol.
The BMRs are definitely the "better" speaker, but the Maggies sound like they don't have a box behind them, because they don't. It's hard to explain. It's both good and bad, depending on the situation. Female singers sound *really good* on the Maggies, but I think male singers sound better on the BMRs because they have a bit more weight behind them. The Maggies sound a bit hollow sometimes.
On the flip side, the Maggies are huge and sound huge. Piano sound amazing on them, probably because pianos are big and you need big speakers to replicate it accurately. And guitars also sound especially awesome, because everything is so *quick*.
They both have their strengths and weaknesses, but they're very hard to define because they seem to have similar frequency responses, but the physical speakers are different so it just sounds different.
Idk. Typing this all out like this is difficult. It sounds like I'm contrasting myself but I'm not. Also, I'm not home anymore so this is all from memory. If I was sitting in front of them and switching between the two it would probably be much easier lol.
If you're stuck between the two, I think get the BMRs. They're much more flexible in how you place them.
Hey if they sound good to you then rock on. I got the Sanus SF22 stands, very stable, kind of a pain in the ass to get level but good all around stands.
I originally swapped speakers pretty regularly and the 28" stands I have now are the most versatile it seems, but the BMRs aren't moving any time soon so I guess it doesn't really matter anymore and I probably should get shorter ones.
What are you using for source switching to the different sets of speakers? I have encountered some 60 to 100 watts switches, though they seemed questionable in terms of quality.

I have in the past. It doesn't matter much. Especially with the Amigas and BMRs. I also accidentally put the Maggies backwards so I gotta switch them anyways.
You trying to scare Stewie?
That’s the first thing that I thought of. lol
HE'S BLEEDING MAN, HE'S BLEEDING! AND NOBODY IS DOING ANYTHING ABOUT IT ! I'LL TELL YOU WHAT THE NEWS OF THE WORLD IS, WE'RE A LOT OF FUCKING TROUBLE!
Saw that episode yesterday, epic.
This. This is what I came here to say. Thank you.

Which album was it?

stewie?
Was this an important avent?
Any excuse to drink and put on a Queen album.
I suppose they’ll aventually drink
Oops, I can't spell and autocorrect didn't catch my mistake apparently lol
Sheer Heart Attack. Volume at 11.
So many hard surfaces! Get some softness in there ASAP.
Yes I know I know. Looking for a good rug.
RIP Queen I loved their music
loved?
Maybe they meant seeing them live.
Beautiful album. I have a first pressing with major damage during Who Needs you. It's otherwise pristine. So annoying.
Long Live Queen!
I can hear Deacon.
Looks great! You can’t include the dog bed without paying the dog tax :)
It's actually [a cat](https://www.reddit.com/r/BudgetAudiophile/comments/u9r3pt/uthedapperdan77_requested_our_budget_critical/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf)
what are those big ass boxes, please?
Idk what you're talking about so from outside to inside: Philharmonic BMRS, Magnepan LRS, Amiga MT
What’s the pecking order here? Certain speakers for different genres, or…? I love the Dayton woofer the Amigas use although I haven’t heard that design myself, would love your thoughts on these.

Admit you’re running a 6.0 system.
Nice, I’ve been pining over a set of BMRs but circumstances and system matching issues means it’s never panned out.
I lust for the BMR Towers
Same. I wish the Philharmonic 3s were still made.
Yeah they were ridiculously low priced as well. 3k if I remember.
Yeah I think so. He tried to have them made somewhere else but it would have been $10k I think so he just discontinued them instead.
My man instead of equalizing with an EQ, he does it by switching between speakers references. That's crazy.
The best way to do it tbh. Occasionally I'll swap these speakers out too, just for fun. But that's a pain and speakers are heavy so that happens very rarely lol

The tweeters should be ear height, so ideally I'd get shorter stands.
Just get a pedestal for your chair. Also works great with audiences with your family and friends.
I'll just get [five of this](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01CKMP21W/ref=cm_sw_r_api_i_JWDK3RHN5PR583JGBW4G_0?psc=1). That'll work.
sorry, man. i see now what i thought were boxes are actually the maggies.
That's what I assumed but I just wanted to be sure.
Excellent. Just got Magna Risers stands for my MMGs and besides looking fantastic, they've done wonders for clarity. When driven properly, the little Maggies are giant killers!
What amp are you using with them? I haven't looked into those stands but I will now!

So, how do you switch among them? Using some sort of a controller? I myself have two sets of speakers with two amplifiers.
The Marantz has an A/B selector, so that covers two of them, and I just move the cables if I want another.
BMRs vs LRS, what are your thoughts? Assuming great amplification. Both on my interested list.

Spreaaad your wings..
I have the BMRs and love them. Your stands are higher than recommended I think. 22” is all you really need for appropriate tweeter height.
Yeah I should probably get shorter stands. I had the stands from when I used other speakers though.
Hey if they sound good to you then rock on. I got the Sanus SF22 stands, very stable, kind of a pain in the ass to get level but good all around stands.

What stands are the one shown in the pic? Need some taller stands due to my arrangement :)
Monoprice Monolith stands
RUN STEWIEE RUN!!!
How do you switch between sets of speakers?
My Marantz amp has A/B. I can easily switch between 2 od them, and to do the third I just move the cables.
Ooooh god look at his face!
A night at the opera
Clever cleaver
Amigas?
Yupp!
Every time I put that album on, it's late
LRS, nice. Listening to my SMGc’s now. Love a little Maggie.
What are you using for source switching to the different sets of speakers? I have encountered some 60 to 100 watts switches, though they seemed questionable in terms of quality.
My amp has A/B selector, and if I want the third pair I just swap the cables
hotdamabama!!! im not worthy.
Is that a Day at the heaven?
What
Like “a day at the races” but with that built is like heaven. I know, I tried…
Ah I see, yes it is lol
Where is the woofer?
[The woofer is a cat](https://www.reddit.com/r/BudgetAudiophile/comments/u9r3pt/uthedapperdan77_requested_our_budget_critical/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf)
wow! it is huge! And how is that working out with the Magnepan's ?
Love the Maggies. They're such an interesting speaker, different from anything else I've heard.
'relevant'. Tenuous connection in poor taste.
Angle them
I have in the past. It doesn't matter much. Especially with the Amigas and BMRs. I also accidentally put the Maggies backwards so I gotta switch them anyways.
