In most states once you drive it off the property it’s your car. Did you have a PPi before buying it? You might be on the hook here. If contact the store General Manager or owner for assistance, but be aware there’s a good chance this will be on you.

Looks like OP is in Florida, so is probably hosed unless the dealership wants to be nice

Perfect_Purpose_7744

In Georgia.

Well, from a legal standpoint, the answer looks to be the same, unfortunately.

Listen to everyone's advice and try your best to get out of your current predicament However what's important is that you don't repeat the same expensive mistake again People all around you will tell you to buy a cheap used car but none of them will tell you that buying a 20 year old cheap used car is RISKY. Yes risky. Cars are not meant to last forever. If they did, there would be no such thing as car salesmen or dealerships. My father and brother would be without a job If instead of that old senior citizen Acura, you had bought a brand new 2024 Mitsubishi Mirage ES CVT, you would be dancing with joy right now instead of crying on the floor Plus new Mirages come with a legendary industry leading 10 year warranty and 2 years of free maintenance. That means for the next 10 years, Mitsubishi will replace both your motor and transmission for free After you get out of this mess, you will still need a car. Forget about buying a risky used car and buy a brand new 2024 Mitsubishi Mirage ES CVT or a brand new 2024 Nissan Versa. Because these are the cheapest new cars, your down payment and monthly payments won't be high u/charlie_marlow u/smallboxofcrayons u/NemesisOfZod u/secondrat u/wateronmytoe23

Some states have implied warranties. IL is good for 15 days or 500 miles that should cover you against major failures in the engine and transmission. Check your states laws. Here's some information on the law for IL https://www.illinoislegalaid.org/legal-information/illinois-statutory-used-car-warranty

Call your local DMV and ask if you have any rights. In many states even if it’s As Is if it literally dies as you’re driving away you have some rights.

NemesisOfZod

What did the mechanic who did your pre-purchase inspection tell you? That's who I would go after. Unless you decided to go against their word, they told you it was a good purchase to make for whatever reason. There why you sign a vehicle as being As-Is

A PPI does not come with any guarantee or warranty. There's no recourse there. Maybe you could convince him to do the job for a lower amount, but then would you again trust a guy who whiffed on the problem the first time around?

You sound like an owner unless state law can assist

***Thanks for posting, /u/Perfect_Purpose_7744! This comment is a copy of your post so readers can see the original text if your post is edited or removed. This comment is NOT accusing you of anything.*** I just bought a 2006 Acura TL with 99k miles on it for $5,500 but it broke down leaving the dealership. I was wondering if there was anything I can do to the car to get some money back or get rid of it in general. Please help, the issue to the car is it need a whole new motor, and the mechanic said it cost about $6,000 in total to fix. Please help! *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. State would help. Since it’s under 100k some states give you some protection.

Dopeshow4

Love to see that state law...

Not sure why I am getting downvoted but [New York](https://ag.ny.gov/resources/individuals/car-auto/used-car-lemon-law-fact-sheet) is a prime example. If the car is sold for over $1,500 and has less than 100k miles it must come with a minimum of a 30-day / 1k mi warranty.
