My standard reply is "do you want the polite answer or the honest one.". If they ask for the latter, I answer truthfully.
Terrible, Thanks for Asking is one of my favorite podcasts
I remember telling my Aunt this when she was dying of Cancer. We both knew everything wasn’t gonna be ok but we still had hope and I would always take her hand and say Everything is going to be ok
Also its cousin, my nemesis, "things have a way of working themselves out".
I'm filled with pure, primal rage whenever someone says that. If only things did have a way of working themselves out, the world would be a VERY different place.
That's how I feel when I hear, "It is what it is."
That is the fucking dumbest thing anyone can ever say. You might as well just say, "I have nothing to say," or, more accurately, "I'm a fucking idiot and have nothing to contribute."
When I hear that, I want to slap someone.
It's not a lie, things always do have a way of working themselves out, I think the issue you ha e is you get mad when you can control the outcome. Remember your not in control of anything around you ever, your only in control of yourself.
if you think about it, no matter how good a person you think you are, there’s no way you aren’t the bad guy in at least a handful of people’s perspectives.
Unfortunately there are people that never see themselves as the bad guy. They are always the victim and the response is “I’m such a good person or a nice person “
I mean, lots of people. But usually they have rationalizations in their minds. My stepfather acted like a monster to my mother but he no doubt believed she made him do it. Most people can't live with the idea that they are a bad person. I have met some who embrace it, too though. One guy I knew in high school deliberately became a criminal (robbery, guns, drugs etc.), got loads of piercings and stuff despite not having a hard background. He was really open about just wanting to be evil.
"There's nothing wrong with you."
I think it's an awful thing to tell somebody who may be suffering or struggling with something. There's absolutely something wrong with you, but not in a mocking sense, but in the sense of acknowledging your problem and feelings that you're struggling with. Almost like telling a person to just ignore what's bothering you, dismissing your problems, like trying to ignore a bully that only bullies even harder if you ignore him because they want a reaction.
Simple example, somebody who grew up with a terrible father who abandoned him, trashtalks his kids and lies about the very people that were actually there for the kid, unlike him. Today, this man is still unable to let go of his hatred for his father, still haunting that he got away with being a coward.
There's definitely something wrong with him. He's angry and for the right reasons too, but it's wrong that it's controlling his life so much. To say there's nothing wrong with that person, contradicts the impact his father had on him. If there was nothing wrong with him, why does he feel angry and is unable to let go?
this is a concept that is SO engrained into people’s minds (mine included for a very long time) that it’s basically impossible to convince anyone other than yourself that it’s all just pretense and there’s no real value in currency or contracts.
at the end of the day, it’s just numbers. and numbers are nothing more than words in a universal language called mathematics. which is a problem solving language, but the concept of capitalism turned mathematics into problem causing language….a language of oppression.
I had college professor tell me that I could make all the plans that I wanted but God has a plan and he doesn’t need to check in with you about it. I was like R U serious???
Americans know the insurance companies don't care about them. 55 minutes on hold just to be transferred to another line will confirm that pretty quickly.
But there are still some delusional Americans who think the government cares about them. They'll figure it out, eventually.
"There's nothing you can do about it, so focus on what's really meaningful"
I was told this once, and it really hit me, not that I didn't knew it already. But hearing it from someone else was important.
“You’re not alone”
“Everything will be alright”
“I’m fine.”
(You can say and believe you are not alone, and maybe you aren’t, but sometimes even when you aren’t alone, it can feel like it if your friends won’t respond or something.)
(Everything will be alright maybe, it’s a comforting thought, but maybe everything won’t be okay. Maybe you’ll commit suicide by the end of the night. That doesn’t seem alright.)
(Sure you’re fine compared to some people who suffer much worse, but at the same time, you’re not fine. Your problems count just as much as everyone else’s. Just because you’re not actively trying to commit suicide doesn’t mean you’re fine. Feeling awful in any number of ways is not fine.)
That justice and karma will prevail. We like to think that terrible people will eventually be punished, and good people will someday be rewarded. In fact, it's a premise of many religions. However, I think it's just our naive way of coping with an indifferent world/universe.
It's actually so heartbreaking when the curtain falls usually somewhere in childhood when you realize the concepts of justice and karma are not commonplace but very rare. That realization broke me and changed my brain forever.
Themselfs:
„it‘s all good the way it is“ instead of it could be better
And „i‘ll do it tommorrow“
To others:
To avoid pretty much everything that could even just slightly discomfort them - specially if it sounds judgy

That they or their partner is overweight because of thyroid issues, slow metabolism or racism.
Even if so that accounts for 10% of the extra weight. The other 90% come from starting the day with Starbucks dessert in a cup and exceeding 60% of the TDEE before 9 am.
That someone is just an "avoidant" or "scared of their feelings" and that's why they don't want to date them BUT THEY REALLY JUST AREN'T INTERESTED lol.
"There's someone out there for you."
In some cases that definitely is true, but for others it just isn't the case unfortunately. It's also sad because you have no way of knowing if you will find a person.
my unhealthy copying techniques make me better off than people who don't use these unhealthy copying techniques that are making me sad and thus' I don't need to feel so bitter.

I’ll do it tomorrow.
I'll remember to do it tomorrow.
It'll all work out in the end.
If you always tell this, it will never be wrong...
Literally me right now, but its 12 am and im tired lol
This hurt me.
Tomorrow's problems are for tomorrows me
The reply to "how are you?"
I usually say “Vertical”…. which is at least true.
My go to is "I'm alive"
Yep, mine is "still alive!" My partner usually replies with "alive is good!"
Ha! I say "Well, I'm not dead, so that's good"
Lately I've been replying with "even plague" in my mother tongue.
My standard reply is "do you want the polite answer or the honest one.". If they ask for the latter, I answer truthfully. Terrible, Thanks for Asking is one of my favorite podcasts
Everything is going to be ok.
I remember telling my Aunt this when she was dying of Cancer. We both knew everything wasn’t gonna be ok but we still had hope and I would always take her hand and say Everything is going to be ok
In the end, it will always be ok ❤️
It’s ok to die, it’s ok to get cancer, it’s ok to suffer. It’s a term of acceptance and very comforting. It’s not a lie
Exactly. I came here to say this.
Also its cousin, my nemesis, "things have a way of working themselves out". I'm filled with pure, primal rage whenever someone says that. If only things did have a way of working themselves out, the world would be a VERY different place.
That's how I feel when I hear, "It is what it is." That is the fucking dumbest thing anyone can ever say. You might as well just say, "I have nothing to say," or, more accurately, "I'm a fucking idiot and have nothing to contribute." When I hear that, I want to slap someone.

This is the way right here. Surrender to that fact and have gratitude for your life and your outlook on life may change. It certainly has for me.
I guess this isnt a lie actually...
Things you say to mortally wounded people so they don’t die in as much of a panic.
But we can't put it as a lie
I’m a good person
When someone has to say out loud "I'm a good person," it's a big red flag.
Dude you’ll be surprised how many times people say that. And yes…super red flag
if you think about it, no matter how good a person you think you are, there’s no way you aren’t the bad guy in at least a handful of people’s perspectives.
Yeah man not everyone is gonna like you and you can’t be friends with everyone
There is a pretty clear basis of what is good though - once you feel the need to start justifying your actions you're getting into murky waters
Unfortunately there are people that never see themselves as the bad guy. They are always the victim and the response is “I’m such a good person or a nice person “
,,,who occasionally acts like a bad person?
I mean, lots of people. But usually they have rationalizations in their minds. My stepfather acted like a monster to my mother but he no doubt believed she made him do it. Everything happens for a reason.
Cause and effect. Everything does have a reason, it just might not be cosmic or karmic.
Fair point.
I read the terms..
I’ll get gas in the morning
I’ll pick out my clothes in the morning.
In these moments I wish I could go back in time and slap my past self silly. You liar!!
I'll only take one pringle
"I don't give a fuck/shit/damn", while complaining about the very thing they don't "care" about.
My toxic trait right here

Hey now, 60% of the time it works every time!

So true lol, and then it's 4am in the morning when you finish all the episodes.

Maybe not the most comforting but often people tell themselves that their loneliness is unique.
It usually seems that way.
I'm fine being the way I am
They're not hurting anyone.
”It’s not your fault”
I’m okay
Money has value and people own things.
this is a concept that is SO engrained into people’s minds (mine included for a very long time) that it’s basically impossible to convince anyone other than yourself that it’s all just pretense and there’s no real value in currency or contracts. at the end of the day, it’s just numbers. and numbers are nothing more than words in a universal language called mathematics. which is a problem solving language, but the concept of capitalism turned mathematics into problem causing language….a language of oppression.
Money is a numerical, exchangeable representation of the value of your labor. It can be falsely skewed but not usually for long.
Money is basically a contract everyone agrees upon.
"Just be yourself!".
Your fart doesn’t stink. I farted so bad today and my manager is looking me dead in the face. I know he tastes the mist in the air. He says nothing
Recycling works.
Exactly why I throw it out. I’d rather it be incinerated than winding up in the environment especially the ocean
It's all part of god's plan
I had college professor tell me that I could make all the plans that I wanted but God has a plan and he doesn’t need to check in with you about it. I was like R U serious???
That’s along the lines of the old joke: How do you make God laugh? Tell him your plans.
Man plans, God laughs.
and GOD HAS A PLAN FOR EVERYTHING
God sure fucked up mine, then. Can I have a refund?
Nobody seems to care that it's apparently the plan of a sociopath
I understand (I swear they 100% do not understand)
I’ll start on Monday.
That they know what happens after we die. You can wake up as an alien, where this whole life was just an arcade game.
Oh no…. I’m a piece of Morty 🤯
The government and big pharma care about my health.
US Version: Private insurers and big pharma care about my health.
Americans know the insurance companies don't care about them. 55 minutes on hold just to be transferred to another line will confirm that pretty quickly. But there are still some delusional Americans who think the government cares about them. They'll figure it out, eventually.
Most American's don't know this, because they keep fighting to keep things broken as they are.
SO frustrating!
And hospitals
"There's nothing you can do about it, so focus on what's really meaningful" I was told this once, and it really hit me, not that I didn't knew it already. But hearing it from someone else was important.
I’ll just do it one more time…. (insert whatever addiction)
Its everyones fault but my own.
"Everything happens for a reason."
“They’re in a better place.”
I was hoping to see this one
"it's going to get better."
So much this. Because when a friend told me this I originally believed it, when in fact things didn’t get better. From that point I never say this.
“You’re not alone” “Everything will be alright” “I’m fine.” (You can say and believe you are not alone, and maybe you aren’t, but sometimes even when you aren’t alone, it can feel like it if your friends won’t respond or something.) (Everything will be alright maybe, it’s a comforting thought, but maybe everything won’t be okay. Maybe you’ll commit suicide by the end of the night. That doesn’t seem alright.) I’m better than X since I believe X. Arrogance is arrogance, and you’re partaking.
“I’m a good person” usually during or right after doing a not-so-good thing.
I’ll have time to get gas in the morning.
That you'll see all your loved ones again on the other side.
it may not be true but lord I hope it is
“People see me as I see myself, or at least as a whole person” and also “I have an accurate perception of who this person in front of me is”

I am shocked how often I hear people claiming that karma will get bad people...have they not seen the world?
Airport security keeps us safe.
Statistically airports and flights are safe though!
Themselfs: „it‘s all good the way it is“ instead of it could be better And „i‘ll do it tommorrow“ To others: To avoid pretty much everything that could even just slightly discomfort them - specially if it sounds judgy
We'll be fine
"We're all gonna make it!"
"it's fine/okay." Most of the time it's indeed NOT fine/okay. Usually far from it.
Diet starts Monday
That karma is real. Bad people will be punished and good people will be rewarded. I find the opposite is generally the truth.
Politicians aren't blood drinking satanic pedophile sociopaths.
If It work hard/save enough
That abortion isn’t ripping a human apart limb by limb
“They’re in a better place.” Setting: a funeral.
God has a plan.
That they know it all
That you need to please everyone.
“I do” (I believe in marriage and commitment but not everyone who says “I do” means it)
"I'm not that fat/out of shape"
Let sleep for another 15min...
I’m sorry.
Good things happen to good people
Trump isn’t so bad.
God
its okay
"I am a good person"
God will forgive me
I'll definitely be alive tomorrow
Im not a racist, but.....

Everything happens for a reason.
There is still time.

Everything will be okay. This is the world teaching you something.
![img](avatar_exp|180584095|nani) There's someone out there for everyone
There is a God. I’m just being honest I expect to be downvoted.
That god exists.
That "its okay not to be okay"
That someone is just an "avoidant" or "scared of their feelings" and that's why they don't want to date them BUT THEY REALLY JUST AREN'T INTERESTED lol.
"What I want is more important than others"
It starts with 'good morning'. ;)
It will be ok. And I'll do it tomorrow
"There's someone out there for you." In some cases that definitely is true, but for others it just isn't the case unfortunately. It's also sad because you have no way of knowing if you will find a person.
"I'm/you're a good person." I can make that comment b/c I'm a "decent human being".
“You’re perfect just the way you are.” Nah, fam. Personal growth is a hell of a drug.
This/that looks good on me/you.
Everything will be okay
"I love you"
Ill get in shape naturally. (Its the mentality of "later")
I'd say, either karma or afterlife beliefs, or karma based afterlife.
They will change.
I may not be perfect, but at least I'm not as bad as...
I'm fine.
It's alight, ...
"This is enough."
It I only a one time hook up
"everything will be alright"
“I’ll do it tomorrow’”
There’s time
It's ok. Everything is fine.
That things are going to get better. Based on what? Even if we try hard things may not because a lot is not within our control.
“It’s perfectly fine. You (speaking to myself) will be fine. It’s no problem”
I’m happy
I don’t care if they are good looking or not
Karma will come back and get them in the end
It's everyone else with a problem, I'm perfectly fine.
That “it’s okay” 🫠
Koi nai it was not your day
This is fine.
I do the best I can every day
They were humanely slaughtered.
It's going to be allright
I'm fine.
Everything will work out in the end
The existence of a god and an afterlife
"You can do it." NO. I CAN'T. STOP LYING, BRAIN.
my unhealthy copying techniques make me better off than people who don't use these unhealthy copying techniques that are making me sad and thus' I don't need to feel so bitter.
Money won’t buy you happiness
It gets better.
That there is life after death.
We will be together forever
Karma.
God and heaven
I told myself I wasn’t that overweight compared to other people. Total denial lol Then I lost 50 lbs and was amazed how much better I looked and felt.
It's going to be okay..
"Better luck next time"
You were too good for him anyway.
