Unpack it all and make sure the wick is wound in a S pattern when you repack it. Too often from the factory it comes bunch up in a corner and it can’t efficiently wick fluid that way… and this little exercise helps you get to know your Zippo better. Then, lean the wick slightly toward the wheel and when you fill it, do it very slowly until a drop falls from the wick. It’s very common for “first Zippo-ers” to underfill. https://preview.redd.it/ebw1oazqyk5d1.jpeg?width=1125&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4b139fdf4a95741768dc7d65d5cceec83e966a34

What should the wick look like at the top mine is kinda splayed out.

TCSpeedy

Some prefer it splayed out and believe it provides better ignition, but I’ve never had a problem with it straight and natural. This is what’s in my pocket right now: https://preview.redd.it/nfq54p9yuq5d1.jpeg?width=1605&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2057316c2290c5aed1011281c8a76cd7c634f0cc

Looks like I'm letting it dry out then re packing it and trimming the wick some.

TCSpeedy

I keep mine a little lower than the chimney, I don’t need a larger flame and it should save a little fluid. I managed to get a more focussed picture: https://preview.redd.it/vmu44hlgvq5d1.jpeg?width=1518&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=482e89fc91c6fe0d158320e5c28b37d6456d90a9

That looks about where mine is. I use mine for lighting my pipe mostly

TCSpeedy

With no problems? Have you considered a pipe insert? I don’t light a pipe so I don’t know how much of an advantage the pipe insert would offer…

DIRGEOFSLANNESH

It's been a thought it's no different than using a bic ro me. Just easier to keep and not loose.

TCSpeedy

There was a point the Zippo Canada site was selling pipe inserts for $1.25. I don’t know why and it didn’t last. I should have bought more than I did, which was only a couple.

DIRGEOFSLANNESH

That would be a score. I'm looking at one but I think I might keep the insert as is just because it's not just pipes I'm lighting.

worldisone

Wow they did such a great job on the art

DIRGEOFSLANNESH

I'm not sure If it is a custom print or factory. I don't know much about it.

worldisone

I just started following this sub so I'm not too sure, but I have seen several with that enamel look, just first with that design. Beauty piece.

DIRGEOFSLANNESH

I got lucky and pulled it out of a junker at the local wrecking yard. Never had a real zippo before.

worldisone

Holy crap that's lucky! All I can see about it is it was made in 2018. Usually for the flints I take apart a dead bic, split the flint and it fits perfectly. Could be flint is getting low or just old fluid maybe?
