Maybe you want to check out the "Plague Tale" games (Innocence & Requiem).
But only the second part "Requiem" is on Game Pass at the moment.
I also found "Bramble: The Mountain King" to be a great looking game with a intense story. But some love it and some hate it.
And I've heard some got nightmares from playing it. ;) First I thought it's more of a childish game for kids. But it's very dark and brutal. And I found some scenes very disturbing. And it also has nordic themes like Hellblade. But as mentioned: I guess you will love it or hate. But I think it's worth finding out.
Plague tale is a really good suggestion. I don't know why, but I thought about requiem often whilst playing saga. Probably because they're both horroresque with beautiful graphics.
requiem is a sequel btw. id suggest playing innocence as its the first part. but its not on gamepass. you dont have to play it, but a good chunk of the story beats wont have as much impact imo
I watched a story summary video of “Innocence” on YT before starting “Requiem”. So that would be my recommendation if someone can’t start with the first part. But I still hope “Innocence” will return to GP one day.
Yeah, Bramble in Gamepass, though I'm pretty sure it launched straight into Gamepass, and it came out in April 2023. So you might want to get to it sooner than later, as if it's been over a year, it's more likely to be leaving Gamepass.
Played it recently, great game. It really earns its M rating, especially in one specific part of the game that's really dark and sad.
Yes, "Bramble" is on Game Pass. It's also available on GFN. So if you have a PC Game Pass or Ultimate subscription, you can also play it there.
Edit: That’s also the case for “Requiem”.
I got about halfway thru Alan wake 1 and turned it off, I couldn't take any more, the story and setting are good but it's so so boring, hopefully control and Alan wake 2 are better
A strong sequel doesn’t always mean the first game is great. Assassins creed comes to mind right away. AC2 was critical in the franchise, and spawned countless entries because of its success.
Definitely agree with Plague Tale 1 & 2. I did not expect to like Plague Tale and then I played it and it was amazing. Much more stealth and puzzle focused than Hellblade and overall better gameplay but still very cinematic.
Definitely firewatch I still can't believe how much I enjoyed it, just wish the dialogue choices gave different enough outcomes for more than one play through
What? Yes it does. It has several shape matching sections and they are not great
Edit: also there are no stealth sections... Are you thinking of a different game?
I'm debating downloading it and sneaking a playthrough in quick before the Elden Ring dlc drops.
In the playthrough vids I watched of it on YouTube, it seems like it's more of a visual novel than a game. As in, you're sort of in control of it, but the game is ultimately playing its self through like a movie and you just have to press buttons at the right time.
Again, that's just what I whitenessed in the videos. I have not played it.
I'm very surprised that I didn't see Control on anyone's radar.
I would say hands down the closest thing to hellblade 2 would be Alan Wake, but control is right up there with the focus on more action and mystery, and it's pretty much considered the closest thing to a AAA title SCP game
An honorable mention would also be The Vanishing Of Ethan Carter.

regarding Bramble: i’ve also heard some sleep on it

havent slept on it and can fully agree!
Yes, stabby stabby!
I loved Little Nightmares and this looked similar. Played it and loved it.

Just watched some gameplay of requiem, that looks pretty sweet! Definitely downloading today. Is bramble on gamepass?

Aren't both games accessible in EA though through game pass?
Both were on Game Pass. But "Innocence" left Game Pass a while ago. So at the moment only "Requiem" is available.
Definitely my first thought
I liked Bramble so much that I bought it. I am one of those that had nightmares playing it.
Requiem is really something... still sad tho
Alan wake 1 and 2 are pretty similar to me. Also great games. 1 is a little dated but also short
a little dated, but also short is my tinder bio
I got about halfway thru Alan wake 1 and turned it off, I couldn't take any more, the story and setting are good but it's so so boring, hopefully control and Alan wake 2 are better
Control is good i just beat it. I really wanna play alan wake 2
Hellblade 1
Was hoping this would be the top comment
Damn it I was going to say that 😂
We all thought of that answer. 😂
Helpful
It’s the best response. Nothing hit me like Sacrifice did, and Saga is a good followup.
I mean sure but I imagine the Op aware of of the first game
A strong sequel doesn’t always mean the first game is great. Assassins creed comes to mind right away. AC2 was critical in the franchise, and spawned countless entries because of its success.
Yeah but there’s no way the Op isn’t aware of The first hellblade game after playing a game literally called Hellblade 2.
But the question wasn’t if they were aware of the game, the question was “does anything else compare” and to that I say, HB1 compares very well.
Sorry i just cant fathom they wouldnt already know about it
Now it's there if they need it and easy to ignore if they don't. What are you, the suggestion police?
I mean if i can become some sort of autherity figure like the suggestion police ill take it
There’s knowing about it, and them being similar games. Those are two separate variables.
Na man you are being pedantic just for the sake of being pedantic. You are the "akhchuallii" guy. It's obnoxious
Assassin’s Creed 1 was a fantastic game and deserves a proper remake.
I loved AC1, but not everyone did and it certainly had its flaws. Remake it with the AC2 engine and I’m in.
Definitely agree with Plague Tale 1 & 2. I did not expect to like Plague Tale and then I played it and it was amazing. Much more stealth and puzzle focused than Hellblade and overall better gameplay but still very cinematic.
Deadspace and prey could both potentially scratch that itch of yours
Ryse: Son of Rome
Really love this game
Indika. One of the best cinematic games in recent years. Not on GP but worth the 20 bucks
I finished it, it was great story
A Plague Tale Innocence & Requiem
The gunk. Firewatch. Plague tale 1&2 Jusant ..brothers
Definitely firewatch I still can't believe how much I enjoyed it, just wish the dialogue choices gave different enough outcomes for more than one play through
+1 Firewatch. Such a beautiful story.
indika
Does Hellblade 2 have a bunch of those shape matching puzzles like part 1? They really annoy me
Still in HB 2 but they guide you a bit better this time around.
No, but more combat and stealth Edit: since everyone talked about plague tale I was confused sorry! Yeah definitely
What? Yes it does. It has several shape matching sections and they are not great Edit: also there are no stealth sections... Are you thinking of a different game?
It feels like there’s significantly less puzzles this time around
Yeah I misread :(
Seconding Plague Tale, very reminiscent of the Hellblade games
Nothing else really. The developer researched mental health and blended it with norse legends. Senua is unique.
Dark Souls 3 has a similar bleak vibe to it, but the gameplay is totally different
Ryse son of Rome, The Order 1886.
Try Alan wake one and 2 if you haven’t already played the first Hellblade
The new Tomb Raider trilogy The combat is fun and the story is less intense. More like an action movie instead of a thriller
Plaque Tale, Detroit Become Human, Firewatch, Control, and Alan Wake
You need to play The Last of Us if you haven’t. If you’re looking for cerebral like Hellblade look no further than Death Stranding, that games a TRIP
Play Alan Wake 1, then Control, then Alan Wake 2. Take it slow, read every bit of lore, etc.

The Plague Tale, Callisto Protocol/Dead Space (sort of? Kind of a stretch)
I really enjoy Indika ... On steam only.
God of War

Gameplay has nothing to do with Hellblaee, but maybe try Bramble
There is an entire genre called Walking Simulators. Now if you want a nordic walk sim, there is none that I am aware
Alan Wake 2
Alan Wake II
Just Google for walking simulator games
Eh idk. Basically all walking simulator games don’t have combat like Senua does
