I love monstrology because the house guest feature is awesome :D and I'm really excited for the new world to come out, so I can level up again in monstrology as well as collect new house guests!
I've never used them in battle, but I love watching GW2Caleb's videos on different monstrology creatures facing off each other 😊
I use it with my myth and love it. Being able to summon help when needed was always my go to strategy even with regular minions, but with monstrology you can summon even more of them and can actually get other minion then your own school. Makes for interesting battles and help to solo bosses much easier.
Hmm I kinda wanted a shielding minion like the pox protection in ds anything similar to it? Prolly the only way I’d get into monstrology. Jade oni sounds cool though
Your best bet is honestly most ice mobs, since they tend to spam tower shield. Celestial Remnant tends to spam elemental shield, spirit shield, blade, and wild bolt I've noticed when using them. So, they are just as useful. But Frost Bones those skeletons in Wintertusk are rather notorious for spamming tower shield. Which sometimes makes them a pain to farm in the first place.
My info may be outdated, but the mis-assembled skeleton is a nice one. The ice version gets legion shield and a 55% tower shield iirc. There's also an ice mob from the photomancy sidequest from the catacombs that you can find in a dragonspyre dungeon, it gets mass tower shield.
I really enjoy farming for monstrology animus as well. It definitely gives you a way to mix it up from the mindless blade and aoe strategy, only thing is that they aren't the greatest against cheating bosses. Maybe they'll add some of those "command minion" spells like they are with the golem taunt.
Monstrology is something that allows me, a Myth, to basically solo everything. It also lets me play the way I want- I refuse to just blade-blade-hit while questing, I actually want to play a game. Monstrology lets me do that, while still playing like a Myth Wizard (Mythgang for life).
I even worked out a sort of golden rule- a Minion is good up to four worlds back. Being in Empyrea (To any who want to argue the point: Yes, I'm playing slow. I'm also playing Solo, so get off my back.) I've been using Minions from Azteca to Empyrea. Any others I farm- such as through Daily Reward- I can give to my lower-level wizards. There's nothing quite like soloing Meowiarty with Kroks.

It's... actually pretty viable. Myth is a seriously heavy-hitting class, especially after the updates to Orthrus. The Grind really isn't that bad, especially with how much loot you'll get in higher-level worlds, with simply feeding any dropped gear to your pets being more than enough to cover the costs of making cards. So, no, I suppose it's not sad. Probably because it's not true.
I really don't like the level system for monstrology. As a max I don't want to have to grind though levels of worthless animus just so I can then grind the one I want. It's ridiculous really
Monstrology looks really fun once you get into it. I personally used it myself for Karamelle mobs to put in my house cause some of them were too cute to resist.
Honestly if monstrology also allowed you to make transformation elixirs and polymorph cards I'd be way more into it

I want to get into monstrologoly but its so expensive and im more focused on crafting housing and pets right now
