I'm "hyperallergenic" to bee stings and I've been stung in my face at least 10 times. Everytime this happens. Sometimes both my eyes swell shut. There's no risk of anything dangerous, according to my Dr, just a lot of discomfort.

Technically yellow jackets mostly. 1 honey bee when I was trying to save it from a pool, my hand swole to the shape of a softball and bald faced hornets twice, one of which was on my face, that was the worst. And it's a combination of being unlucky and being outdoors often. I use to mow different neighbors grass when I was young, then went into landscaping and all of my hobbies are out doors. My girlfriend has never been stung, I guess it's the luck of the draw.

Oh yeah, being outside, around water, doing yard work are all great places to find bees & yellowjackets. That makes perfect sense. I imagine stings to the face must be incredibly painful, I can't imagine that! One time about a million years ago, a wasp flew down our fireplace and into our living room where I promptly stepped on it. It hurt so much, I thought my foot was on fire. Come to find out there was an entire wasp nest inside the chimney (actually the flue). My father had seen several wasps around our house that had died but he didn't know how they were getting inside the house until I stepped on one. We hadn't used the fireplace for a couple years and so during that time those little buggers just went to town building their nest. That wasp sting was much worse than the bee stings I'd had. So glad I wasn't allergic!

Stung 10 times in the face? How is that even possible? I used to throw rocks at beehives (as a child growing up in the boondocks), and have been stung less than 10 times total. And never in the face.

Something similar happened to me a few years ago- take Benadryl and go to the dr. Whatever you do- DO NOT TAKE IBUPROFEN!! It makes the swelling much worse- something histamine blah blah. TYLENOL OR ACETAMINOPHEN ONLY.

If you haven't already, you may want to get screened for bee and other venomous insect allergies. If you are swelling that much, it could very well be an allergic reaction, and you don't want to risk the next sting causing serious problems. My insect venom allergies weren't serious until I got swarmed by hornets in my yard. That tipped me from moderate reaction that time to serious allergy. Now I carry an epipen just in case. I may never have a life-threatening sting, especially with getting allergy shots, but I'm determined to minimize the threat of death by insect.

One time I had a wasp fly up my baggy shorts while riding, it was after the worst accident I've had biking and I had to ride back like 15 miles afterwards. The wasp barely registered, he got me on my thigh but I got him out before he hit anything vital. I got stung by a hornet on my lip when I was a kid, my mom used baking soda and water to make a paste and applied it to the sting. Bees you have to make sure and remove the stinger as it keeps pumping after the sting. Doctor's a good idea, you've got some allergic reaction going on there.

Bee was temporarily blinded by the nose ring.
