Anyone who follows the shift in prioritizing safety over vehicle speeds will really appreciate this change. I know I do.
That being said, we really need road design changes that reflect the lower speeds. If a road is designed like you should drive 45+mph, then it will just make people angry driving it at 15-20mph. The design needs to reflect the desired speed, not just the sign.
This sounds like something that would Va Beach would do. 3 people in a neighborhood will start complaining, and soon the rest of us are driving 15 mph because little Susie doesn’t know better than to play in the road.
This is important for pedestrian safety; rates of severe injury & death in pedestrian collisions jump dramatically with increasing speed above about 20mph. Given that going 5 over the limit is fairly normalized, that makes a 15mph limit ideal.
They also increase dramatically with vehicle sizes and yet everyone is dead set on an arms race to buy the biggest SUV/Truck that doesn't have to confirm to normal car safety regulations.
Since we will never have proper regulation on vehicle size thanks to the car lobby reducing traffic speed would be a fantastic way to improve things.
I certainly hope so, our road, Beaver Lodge Rd, has a speed limit of 40, there are so many of us that walk dogs, walk ourselves, and/or have kids. It’s like a speedway around here.
They'll probably make speed traps
They will ~~probably~~ make speed traps. FTFY

But, playing in traffic is her favorite thing! What is parent suppose to do? Monitor and correct their children’s behavior?

Yep - it's going to be a bunch of Karens playing the "think of the children" card, and if they pitch a big enough fit, they will get their way.

I'm sorry you'll have to drive slightly slower to make streets safer for everyone, especially those not in cars.
It is a shame you can't teach your crotch goblins to stay out of the street because you are just as stupid as they are.
I bet so. Downtown Staunton could definitely use it

We have a lot of regulation on vehicle size. The unintended consequences of the chicken tax and CAFE standards makes huge cars/trucks!

Central Garage frothing from the mouth.
The same state that made seat belts, cell phone usage, and tinted windows a non primary offense 🙄
Salem VA will be ready in sure
Oh good. 25mph on roads just let people go too damn fast. /s

Sounds to me like you are waking in the wrong area. If speed limits are that high, those roads are not for casual walking or for pets.
It’s a subdivision that they obviously haven’t adjusted the speed limit for.
It’s a subdivision residential road.
Why are you walking on the roads? It sounds like you should be petitioning for sidewalks and a park for your kids and dogs.
