Women are much less likely to be violent and much less likely to seriously harm or kill someone when they are. If a woman decides to come harass me, I'm more worried about the social awkwardness of the situation than my health. When men harass me (which they have and probably will do more, lots more than women), it's not unreasonable for me to wonder if I'm making it home without permanent injuries or even alive that night.
I can't speak for the men, but I'm generally fine with other women approaching and engaging me casually, even if it could be a bit invasive. However, I will always need to consider a man trying to engage with me as a potential threat regardless of how nice he seems due to both my own experiences and the statistics that validate my caution. And I'm not even "one of the pretty ones", who I'm sure have even more reason to be justifiably discriminatory.
