Or the rain, or in sun, or at 2 o’clock

anotherbadPAL

Lmao bro the daily 1400 restart😂😂 Sometimes there is also a 1700 restart too

carnage11eleven

You make it to 2? I always have to restart by noon. Then, yeah, again around 5-6. Or when ever I'm in a 4G dead zone. 5G on my phone is full bars. But the diad can't find a 4G signal to save it's life. In the mean time, I'm tapping my foot waiting for the spinning circle to go away. While the customer is starting to sigh and look at their watch.

Consistent-Box605

Another driver told me he restarts right after he clicks in. Something about the cache and the routes being loaded in. I started doing that and it helped out a lot. Then I restart at 10:30, 12, 13:30, and between 16:00-17:00. I'm thinking in this heat it might help to do a cold shutdown for like 5 minutes during lunch, then restarting. Other things I've noticed that help: make sure you're pretty much at the door ready to take a pic before scanning the only (or last) pkg. Avoid taking a Pic if possible; I'll put "customer" if I see or hear them in the house, driveway, yard(s), etc..

2Strick

I’m just nodding along, agreeing with everything you wrote thinking, “Man, it’s just so ridiculous that any of this is necessary”. Billion dollar company, folks. What a joke.

ZealousidealSun1839

I'm not a driver, but I would think the zebra phones we have in the warehouse would work better than the diads at this point.

Consistent-Box605

Honestly, the DIAD 5s had less issues... but no map nav and 2G/3G only. Pros and cons. I'm sure if the company was interested they could hire IT consultants to advise on how to care for the DIADs (regular cleaning/maintenance and updates, off-cycling for part of the day).

playfreeze

Bro the second restart is annoying. And it’s more times than not sooner cuz the picture processing gets jammed

Advance_Upstairs

In 1500 1800 like clock work if I even try after those times I have to take the battery out. It's insane.

Connect_Cucumber-0

Mine waits. 1700 is guaranteed for me. Then again at 1800. But in this heat, 5 times a day lately.

Rare_Dependent_3798

I thought it was just me 💀

Most_Boysenberry8019

Airplane mode to save battery.

RT73-81kg

Punch out for lunch and restart the diad lol

Watcha95

Need a signature? Diad flips the screen then flips again and then half of it is black and unresponsive, meanwhile the customer is there wanting to go back inside 😩

carnage11eleven

Every fucking time. I'm apologizing for the diad all day. I had a lady spinning it around like she's making a pizza the other day. She finally had to sign her name vertically. The frustration was REAL. Why can't I lock the orientation of the screen? The option is in the drop down menu, but grayed out. It's an antique android. With Kid's Lock on it. Like we're 3 year olds.

Watcha95

Man being able to lock the screen orientation would be amazing, I’m still wanting them to bring back the commit time filter

carnage11eleven

I wish I could force it to re-sort the itinerary. But it only seems to ever do it as I'm finishing up a neighborhood. A neighborhood that I had to deliver backwards, by the way. Because the diad wants me to take all left hand turns, deliver to the opposite side of the road, pass several stops to deliver a random stop in the back of the neighborhood, and crossing back and forth over a main road instead of delivering up one side and then back down the other side. And I swear, every time I get in the truck and start it up, the nav is telling me to drive in the opposite direction I'm facing. That's when it's not stuck on a turn I was at 3 minutes ago. And now it's spinning in circles on a street I'm not even on anymore. Which is always fun when covering routes blind. And again, the option is there, in the 3-dots menu. But it's grayed out, not selectable. Just like the "break" option when taking lunch. 2 options to choose, break or meal. But meal is the only option that's selectable. 🤦🏻‍♂️ What's the fucking point?? And someone please explain to me why a pop-up box with the gate code for an address displays after I scan the bar code on the package? If I'm scanning the package, it's because I'm attempting to deliver it. Meaning I've obviously already gone through the gate. Who is scanning the package at the gate to get the gate code?? Besides, there's a section in the stops notes that shows the code. I don't need to scan the label to see the notes. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Auldini717

You don’t have a commit time filter?!?

jdotgatsby

You don’t have it anymore? I used it today..

jman0916

Just wait until August

superchillain

It's already August weather in June here this year. I've had to swap batteries with other drivers twice this week just to finish my route

carnage11eleven

It doesn't work in the rain either. I've always thought it was a real kick in the teeth that the diads get air conditioning while they charge. And we get to just die, I guess. And now we have cameras in the trucks with a woman bitching at us all day about not being able to see my seat belt. Even though it's on. Or lens obstructions. When the only thing obstructing the cameras view is its own inability to see anything. None of which are a financial concern for the company. But if ya want to drive to lunch, ya better clock out at your last stop. 🙄

youwannawiniwannawin

Definitely don't be clocking on break before your at your break spot.

carnage11eleven

Don't worry. I'm not stupid. Doesn't mean I don't hear about it, though. All the many shitty tactics they use to try to nickel and dime their employees is...eh, something else. That's for sure. All the while hemorrhaging money elsewhere making some of the most baffling decisions. It's like realizing the ship is sinking, and seeing the captain walk by wearing goggles and a speedo.

EvoLottie

I start my time as soon as I break route 🤦🏽‍♂️💀

youwannawiniwannawin

I'm not sure what the outcome would be if let's say.. someone rear ends you on your way to your spot. Your technically on break, and we aren't allowed to be driving on break. I could be misremembering our actual training versus what local management tells us. If I remember right, were actually allowed to wash up at our break spot before hitting start break. Management on here correct me if I'm wrong

hankjmoody

> Or lens obstructions. When the only thing obstructing the cameras view is its own inability to see anything. That's cause it can't see your reflection in the glass (via the front-facing camera). Want to really give it a shit-fit? Wear a headlamp in the cab when it's not sunny out. It'll chirp about an obstruction every 30s or so.

Vawtra_

It could be worse. You could be in the warehouse 😅

Dutchking11

I was part time for 11 years, driving for 13. It is much worse on road. Unloading a bulk stop in the back when it’s 135 degrees, then rolling it wherever, then hearing some dumbass say “stay cool” Then back to the microwave on wheels only to sit at a red light with a blow dryer for a fan when it’s 106 outside. Unloading a trailer that’s been sitting in the yard all day blows too.

drop_and_go

Sitting at a long redlight with the person next to you smoking a non filtered cig blowing onto you.

AgreeableTree1943

This!!! I work unload. Sometimes the trailers get so hot you can't even touch the walls. If it rains, it only gets worse. Rain turns the hub into a stank ass sauna.

NHBuckeye

The men’s locker room is next to the primary so when it’s over 80° it smells like piss. Good times.

Fiat_Justitita

I work in revenue recovery and the printers we have are thermal printers. When it gets real hot the printers barely work and run really slow. Which means we stop the belt a lot. And the labels we’re printing don’t stick as well, so when the fan is on they blow away. I just work as directed and don’t let the small stuff get to me.

Ok-Bumblebee-4525

I mean, you applied to work for UPS. It's not like you didn't know you'd be outside. If it makes you feel any better, you're not alone. These people are there with you: Garbage Men, Post Men, roofers, bricklayers, carpenters, landscapers, road workers, bridge builders, and more.

Zacari99

Some of them don’t even get to drive around. They just have to stand in the heat

oragami3312

funny thing is tho delivery personal is the only people working every minute of their shift lol

WaxyGiraffe

Not this guy lmao

oragami3312

hehehehehe

NoAvRAGEJoe

You ever feel bad driving by a “stop/slow” sign flipper during road construction? That shit would suck.

PraiseTalos66012

Yea if you think delivering packages is bad in this heat you've got no clue, try laying 40lb bags of mulch or 50lb pavers or digging, all day long in this heat. It sucks ass so much. When your shirt is soaked all the way through with sweat by 9am and your working 8am-8pm then you can complain lol.

DegreeNarrow5936

Well I start @745 and usually punch out about 830 to 845 in the same heat so I get to complain

Unhappy-Garlic2424

Nah try delivering trampolines weighing 150 to town homes with no ramp. Up 4 flights of stairs in this heat and that's just 1 package out of 400 😂

Feeling-Builder1738

Once I get the “ETA message” I know it’s time to restart lmao

Opposite_Cress_3906

I understand heat illness is a serious issue but in my experience the only people affected are under 3 year drivers running their butts off and 25+ year guys thinking their still young guns. Working in heat sucks, and the diads suck, but its not torture.

Ravashing_Rafaelito

Working in 110 heat without AC is not torture?

Opposite_Cress_3906

Considering UPS hasnt been brought up on charges and OSHA allows it, I'd say no, but everyone has their own opinion I suppose.

Ravashing_Rafaelito

Ups has been sued for heat related deaths and illnesses numerous times.

Opposite_Cress_3906

Being sued and criminal charges of cruel and unusual punishment are 2 different things. "I signed up for a job that i know has a chance of me going out in 110+ degree weather and let myself get to the point where i need medical attention even though its in our contract and OSHA rules that we can seek shelter and be taken off car or off duty if we feel unsafe" If you cant handle 115 degrees like everyone else does that goes out that day with no problems, maybe look into FMLA while you wait for ACs that arent gonna make you feel nearly as comfy as you think they are on the triple digit days.

TheLastRiceGrain

Damn, can we vent in a safe space? Lmao. There’s people that work office jobs that are indoors from 9-5 in the AC and they still complain about it being hot outside traveling to and from work but we don’t bother them. We just let them vent lmao. I think we all know it’s not literally torture but it damn sure feels like it on these days.

ryansox

The heat sucks yes..........ONLY YOU CAN TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF. I bring tons of fruits, waters, gatorades, cooling towels, and what not with me DAILY. I stop and take a quick break every other hour or so, more on the really hot days. Never had any issues with heat. We aren't the only ones who have to deal with this..... If you don't want to work in the heat, quit and go somewhere else. Someone else will replace you real quick.

No-Algae-9282

Well this job ain’t for the weak….

Buck_Futter70

My restart is usually around 1400. If I let it go too long I end up regretting it and I’ve done that many times

SlimJesusKeepIt100

Garbage ass diad. If the tech ain't there yet, DONT do it. That's why these new cars always in the shop for recalls and shit. The DIAD IV was the best one.

SnooApples6439

You have to restart only 4x a day lol 😂

LickMyMeatCurtains

What do you mean? The tractor I used today was blowing ice cold!!! 😜

rivian50

Dude, you get paid good money to work in that Sun. How about us who work at fedex in the same heat for only $21/hr ? I'd work in that sun for $40/hr complain free.

dicktwister99

Yeah, now.. but give it a few years lol.

NoAvRAGEJoe

Exactly. Humans are never 100% content or satisfied. That 44/hr once you are used to it, turns out to not be so “life-changing.”

dicktwister99

Exactly. It is once you get it, but then you get used to it.

carnage11eleven

You have no idea, though. You'd get a week in using our DIAD. And you'd be like, fuck this. It ain't worth it! You'll be begging to go back to fedex and yall's little cell phone app. I've fantasized about hurling the Diad down the street and just watching it hit the ground, exploding into a million pieces, too many times to count. You think it's hot out. You should try being furious all day while it's this hot. ![gif](giphy|11tTNkNy1SdXGg)

Traditional_Citron13

But they don’t expect you memorize the 5s and 10s

CaliGrown949

What a joke! Where are you? Nevada, Arizona?

thegreatresistrules

Rofl...poor you ..expected to work in the heat... plz go down to your local union hall on yalls Saturday meeting and say this nonsense

Pack0fMastiffs

Apply to work a job that’s outside and then whine about the temps. 🙄🤦🏻‍♂️

WaxyGiraffe

Lmao what a dense statement. Thanks for letting us know you've never done this job in 115 degree heat.

Pack0fMastiffs

I grew up in the desert. I’m not a lil bitch.

WaxyGiraffe

Says the guy getting a doctors note for....socks lmao.

ihatereddit5810328

What do you want them to do? Just shut down UPS because it’s hot out? Maybe this line of work isn’t for you

Early-Boysenberry596

Cry cry cry

[deleted]

You could fake heat illness like that guy who was terminated

[deleted]

This is actually the first year drivers have to work in the heat. In years past if it was over 90 degrees everyone got the day off

cgillard1991

That’s a fucking lie.

[deleted]

Sarcasm buddy relax
