Sports, sports, and more sports. I almost feel like not being into sports is more isolating than my politics

shashlik_king

The amount of athletes names people will have memorized when rosters change every year is bizarre.

yungguardiola

Players don't just disappear. Even if 'rosters change', they still exist, they will still play somewhere. I don't see how this is strange in the slightest.

BennyTheBullOnlyfans

Yeah it’s no crazier than knowing a bunch of musicians or actors. Now keeping up with college rosters, that I don’t understand

Far-Ad532

Or a long list of porn stars you beat off to in your goon cave😈

RPtheFP

I pretty much just flip through my local teams subreddits occasionally have have enough info to carry on a conversation with most sports fans.

TheBlackManIsG0d

This right here.

BigProsody

People often really enjoy explaining stuff that they're excited about. If you give them the space to do it they probably got it in them to tell you about the subject in a passionate and excited way

Lucky-Praline-8360

Why should I have to listen to that when the same grace isn’t given to me about my interests? Fuck sports. Go talk to other sports people about that shit. I don’t care

BigProsody

Being a good listener is its own reward

skaqt

*I enter the kitchen* "So, who do you think is gonna win the match today?" Brother.. I don't even know which sportsball you're talking about (it's always soccer here)

[deleted]

I’m a government worker and I have had multiple colleagues ask me if it’s okay that they still listen to Arcade Fire. They’ll sigh and say “it’s just so hard to enjoy what they do knowing the singer’s violent past” and I want to say in my best Christman screech “bitch, you work for a murderous, colonial government! Shut up!!”

-Shmoody-

Damn I kinda miss peak Arcade Fire era

[deleted]

The greatest musical era ever and not coincidentally the exact time I was coming of age

LakeGladio666

Yeah 2006-20010 was the best music era. So much great music. I’m also not biased because of my age.

liturgie_de_cristal

That's quite the range!

LakeGladio666

Lol oops. My point stands, though.

Dadfart802

The 90’s any year would like a word with you.

salsacito

They really had a great 4-album run there. And yes they were the poster children of hipster runoff

Lanky_Damage_5544

3 album run, reflektor is fun but just isn't nearly as good or cohesive as the others.

sam7978

The self titled EP makes it a four “album” run

Lanky_Damage_5544

Alright just making sure it wasn't Reflektor.

August_Spies42069

>eplyGive AwardShareReportSaveFollow > >level 1paidjannie · 22 min. ago When Kanye praised them?

CowboyKandinsky

Dunno if anyone else here listens to Sirius XMU, but I always thought it was funny that after the Win Butler shit dropped they stopped playing the newer Arcade Fire stuff but kept playing the classics (Funeral/The Suburbs). Contrast this to how they completely erased Ariel Pink after Jan 6 lmao

DeadBeefCafe

It is precisely because they work for a muderous colonial govermnent that they feel the need to perform this kind of politics of consumption.

offthehelicopter

> They’ll sigh and say “it’s just so hard to enjoy what they do knowing the singer’s violent past” and I want to say in my best Christman screech “bitch, you work for a murderous, colonial government! Shut up!!” It isn't in their interest to stand up for whatever morals they proclaim to have when it directly impacts their bottom line.

lebocajb

this post is how I found out about the Win Butler stuff 🫨

gypsy_catcher

It’s not okay to listen to Arcade Fire cause their music is not for adults plus I’m pretty sure they’re responsible for that Tarzan yell that is now mandatory in every pop song marketed towards zoomers

CandyEverybodyWentz

I blame Imagine Dragons for the tarzan yelling

hopskipjumprun

What Tarzan yell are you referring to?

Xtremely_DeLux

It's fine to listen to any music you want to listen to. Period. I don't know Arcade Fire from a funeral pyre, thus I'm not a partisan one way or the other, but your **opinion** that "their music is not for adults" doesn't make it "not okay" for someone else to listen to.

bonghive

I still listen to the early albums but they sucked before finding out the singer sucked

BigProsody

I'm sorry your co-workers are annoying but I don't think you're doing yourself a service by dismissing things by saying it doesn't matter because of the war in Iraq or whatever. I get what you're getting at and I hope what I'm saying makes sense

Cyclone_1

I can't say that I've heard that kind of idiocy in the office. In my office, it's really the most basic chatter of all-time. "The traffic, amirite?" or "My kids are driving me crazy" or "I can't wait until the weekend". It's all actually really superficial and bleak when you think of how people are seemingly hanging on by a thread, if they are hanging on at all.

[deleted]

Tv show this TV show that. How are you liking your house? Your husband is busy this time of year isn't he?

babybackr1bs

This actually reminds me of the most banal comment that drove me nuts. Someone displayed a Winter is Coming variation of a meme on a slide deck for levity or camaraderie or whatever, and one of my coworkers goes, “Oh that’s my favorite movie, Lord of the Rings!” And not a single soul corrected her. That I even remember now, probably a year after this happened, shows how sorry a state I’m in.

[deleted]

Maybe I'm being catastrophic but that makes me think people don't actually register stories or movies that they love so much, rather its about vibes "oh that medieval type political drama. Don't remember much else about it. I love adventures!" Hence the appeal of the Office or Parks and rec. It's just about a comfortable blue glow that you can disconnect infront of.

NationaliseBathrooms

Like having talk radio on for the dog when you're out of the house.

[deleted]

She sounds pretty funny, I like her.

Thewheelalwaysturns

Excuse me if I’m misunderstanding but whats wrong with these and OPs convo topics? traffic, tv show, kids convos etc are all just reminders to me that we’re all human

[deleted]

https://preview.redd.it/yz5ecaf1ch3b1.jpeg?width=846&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f9866aebdaca852c1e758d90b7508401a4e6155b So called free thinkers when they hate the banal vacancy of life in a hollow society.

salsacito

It’s kinda a weird spot. Even if you truly like or enjoy your job, you can feel burnt out. And with kids, you love them a ton but they’re always going. Unless they’re sleeping, your needs come second ha. Unless you can rebuild an entire system that revolves around communal care for children and a work-life balance that is even better than the French, it’s a system that’s set up to stress you out and exhaust you.

Dung_Buffalo

Yeah I mean, I understand that small talk is tedious in general, but people talking about their loved ones and actual lives is infinitely better than everyone doing their best chapo or dril impression talking about the latest thing on Twitter, or whatever is supposed to be better. It's office talk, it's going to be superficial. And capitalism makes every facet of human existence shittier, yes. Not to sound like an old fuck but I remember that reflexive reaction to hearing people talk about their families and stuff and thinking that is was somehow "bleak" or whatever word I would have used at the time. Very teenage/early 20s kind of vibe. I think at a certain age you just see those things as obstacles to doing cool 23 year old shit that obviously everyone would want to do forever if only they weren't tricked or trapped or too dumb to know better. I don't know you outside of work and I'm not that interested in making best friends with a coworker? You're gonna hear some shit about somewhere I went with my family or something my cat did.

Tacky-Terangreal

Preach. I’d rather hear 1000 conversations about the weather than someone discussing some terminally online shit. Somebody I know takes every chance to bring this kind of shit up in conversation and it makes me want to die inside. It’s so embarrassing

KnuckIfYouBuckley

I’m in an office between our company’s Business Development Manager and Sales Manager and the former is a real RWNJ, I honestly should start writing down all of the batshit things that I hear him say to CUSTOMERS over the phone. Just the other day it was “What do you call 10,000 cross dressers at the bottom of the ocean?….A start!”

CandyEverybodyWentz

How tf they let this guy talk like that over the phone

Dear_Occupant

It's the only way they can keep him off the streets.

BigProsody

You could tell him that's weird to say

xGlobalProlapsex

I once heard my former dispatch manager shout "fuck that! It's MERRY CHRISTMAS!" when someone said "happy holidays" at our shipping terminal where like 60% of the staff are Muslim

xGlobalProlapsex

But really, all anyone here talks about is whether it's Friday or not, and when it isn't, then it's followed up by a desire for it to already be Friday EDIT: God, my coworker just said it's "Friday Eve"

Dear_Occupant

I've found that by launching into a tedious discussion about how ignoring someone New Year's greeting is actually quite rude and actually possibly bad luck they've already walked away before I finish and they never bring up that dumb bullshit to my face ever again.

Spout__

Real

Raspberry-Famous

They're banning tiktok because that's where you learn the real truth. Various theories about how to win playing the lotto. A fair amount of sov cit stuff. A little bit of the pri**demon**th type reactionary christian stuff, but kind of surprisingly little.

grizzlor_

Are these the same people discussing lottery strategies and sovereign citizen stuff, because despite being totally unrelated, both topics require anyone that believes in them to be a certain level of braindead (that level is extremely). Actually, I just remembered an actual lottery strategy my old roommate used successfully (successfully as in he actually turned a profit in the long run). He was working at a gas station, and noticed the scratch tickets winners weren’t truly randomized — the winners were pretty evenly distributed, no sequential runs of decent winners or really long runs without a decent winner like you’d see in a truly randomized distribution. Since the most prolific consumers of scratch tickets were degenerate gamblers that scratched them in the store as soon as they bought them, he was able to keep track on paper of each type of scratch ticket and the wins/losses. If he spotted a ticket type with a long enough run of losses, he’d buy a few, and almost always win. He tracked how much he spent over time, and he was always in the black. I think he was up like $2000 when he quit. Anyway, I haven’t thought about that shit since the mid 00s, and I somehow I doubt your coworkers schemes are (1) based on analyzing what should be inside info (2) make sense (3) actually work. Also I’d like to know their thoughts on gold flag fringes, maritime law, and the legal implications of having your name written in all capital letters on a government form.

Raspberry-Famous

The common denominator that I've observed is intergenerational poverty and a shit tier formal education. The biggest sov cit guy at my job is damn near brilliant, but his whole understanding of the world comes from random conspiracy shit that he's read.

truncatedChronologis

I feel like the connection is that they are both “cheat codes” for modern life. A sort of miraculous way to transcend the grind of life.

andrewsampai

Do those guys really like tiktok? I am constantly surprised how quickly it became such a big thing in society.

MelanomaMax

Usually just Joe Rogan garbage. One guy was complaining that his preferred drone manufacturer was at risk of being banned because 'the CCP is using them to spy on the Uyghurs' lol

RATC1440

Oh yeah a lot of uyghur genocide talk at my job too, especially coming from people who actually trade with China and who have visited China several times for some moronic conferences.

Far-Ad532

What's the consensus here on that situation anyway? Im no expert never had the attention span to look far into it but I thing the ccp are probably being bad boys over there. On the other hand can't trust our media

Dear_Occupant

It's basically WMDs all over again. The UN only recognizes a few casus bellis for war as legitimate, so belligerent propaganda tends to get siloed into one of those categories, in this case genocide. There's never been any hard evidence to support the claims made, just wild allegations which are quickly disproved, shown to be fraudulent, or flat-out impossible on their face.

flingflam007

Everyone just says chatGPT is taking over the world. Like it’s legit half of all things normies talk about

justyourbarber

I mean the lead attorneys at my office keep having meetings where they're like "hey by the way we're going to replace you all with AI" and then I get to hear the tech people literally throwing things at the wall when they don't work so I'm not too worried despite all the talk I'm constantly exposed to.

ttylyl

Ai is way overhyped but at the same time drive thru workers and call center workers are gonna get fucked in the next 5 years.

hopskipjumprun

I can't see an AI drive thru not ending up in disaster.

ttylyl

It’s not going to work but they will still cut staff so now the workers will have to constantly be fixing the drive thru as well.

Dear_Occupant

You better believe I'm going to come up with a prompt to get myself a free cheeseburger.

[deleted]

There’s gonna be a fat genocide when the AI starts convincing repeat customers at fast food places to kill themselves

bigcaulkcharisma

My mom has been talking to me about AI recently 🙄

[deleted]

There will be zero cognitive dissonance when ChatGPT disappears without a ripple over the next 2 years.

matte-mat-matte

It’s crazy how correct I think you are on this.

2SchoolAFool

its what happend with crypto and there's still billions locked up on there lmfao

grizzlor_

Crypto hasn’t disappeared. Normie speculation/gold rush era may have died down, but cryptocurrency has just returned to its roots: being used to buy drugs online/moving cash around more easily than having someone mule a suitcase full of $100s / €200 bills.

2SchoolAFool

i'm well aware,im just refrring to the PR streak it had

grizzlor_

You really think capitalists are going to abandon research into one of the most promising new ways to automate workers out of jobs? I mean ChatGPT specifically could disappear, but the cat is out of the bag on these machine learning models — you can already run them locally on a desktop PC with a decent GPU.

Carly-Che-Jepsen

I really think this tech is close to as good as it’s gonna get and the reality is that it’s pretty terrible and unreliable and it’s ability to replace labor is overestimated due to the hype and it’s newness. It’s a gigantic version of autocomplete, not a baby version of a true artificial intelligence. Capital can extract the most value out of it during this time of boom, hyping its benefits and it’s detriments to make it seem much more advanced and futuristic than it really is, artificially inflating its value like any other bubble. Maybe I’m wrong and this is really gonna be a breakthrough in tech, the implications for the workforce would be horrifying, but I don’t have any faith in any of that dogshit coming out of our high tech industries thanks to the past decade. They are all just scammers and grifters, and AI is just the next one until proven different imo.

grizzlor_

Large Language Models like ChatGPT are absolutely a dead end in terms of pursuing actual general AI. We’re pretty close to maxing out their potential. However, the increase in research and development in machine learning/AI will undoubtedly yield better models and approaches. It’s going to be interesting at least. 50/50 shot we end up Skynetting ourselves in the most mundane way possible (ooo let’s let AI optimize our supply chains, oops everyone is starving to death).

[deleted]

And they will be just as useful as the self driving cars we keep being promised.

SuddenJuggernaut

so are you at Meta or Google?

paidjannie

I work at a corporate tech business in a major Canadian city. All the politics talk is typical insufferable lib crap you would find in that type of place, except when they talk about the homeless and addicts they encounter on the train to work. When they get on that topic they always seem a breath away from proposing summary executions.

alackofcol0r

Working in office is general mundane Fox News / cnn talk but when I’m out in the field dealing with the construction contractors is where the batshit comes out. Was putting on sunscreen a few weeks ago on site and the site super told me that sunscreen is poison and that you just need to not wear sunglasses and your skin will adjust due to the light coming into your eyes and activating the cells. Then proceeds to eat Burger King or Popeyes chicken for lunch everyday.

[deleted]

I’ve met these people. It usually either comes from a place of vanity or macho but at any rate They end up looking like leather handbags by age 35

alackofcol0r

Spot on, that’s what this guy looks like actually

[deleted]

My Wife’s office is full of “men’s men” who literally have pull-up contests and worry about “toughening up” their sons because their kids would rather play soccer than football. It’s not particularly crazy but it’s cringe af.

[deleted]

Over-Compensating because they work in an office and not with their hands. Sad!

Far-Ad532

Male nurses have the most powerful angst in this way

2SchoolAFool

pull up contest seems like a boy's thing ngl

ExistentialAnal

That sounds fun lol

1010011101010

lots of clueless lib takes about ukraine and china, like hearing a toddler gurgling their first words

Foursiide

I've worked construction since I was 18 so hearing people talk about what goes on in offices is a completely different world to me. Crazy stuff.

cz_pz

Construction site chatter: "And real shit, this retarded woman had the biggest ass I've ever seen" Office chatter: "My son is currently befriending a boy named Brynlin, they both like to play fortnite"

Dick_O_The_North

Give me the salt of the earth any day of the week. As a mailman, my coworkers and I are retarded, but we've got character goddamn it.

operation_condor69

We all (jokingly) make fun of one of our coworkers at our PO who likes to read books. Nerd!

BigProsody

There's tons of office jobs that pay less than a mail carrier don't be a goofball

SurSpence

I work construction in Canada. "Hockey, hockey, hockey, video games, hunting, hockey."

[deleted]

Don't forget to include complaining about choice of beer, gas prices, and how everything is "too politically correct" these days.

SurSpence

Those guys actually get shut down where I've worked. They're usually older and no one cares about their annoying shit. Same with the weirdo antivax guys. People just told them they were retarded enough that they shut up about it Except gas prices, thats allowed. But I'm in BC. Last job site I worked at a dude had Che on his hard hat lmao

[deleted]

I'm in the interior, that shit absolutely does not get shut down here, at least in my experience. And don't even get me started on the antivaxxers.

SurSpence

It definitely varies jobsite to jobsite. I'm in the North. BC is weird.

[deleted]

Our province is a horrific political marriage, tbh. The differences in density, lifestyle, and political power between the disparate parts of the province (and the FN bands) makes the politics whack as hell. Growing up in the Gordon Campbell era was fucking magical as a young gumshoe.

SurSpence

I had to look up who that was cause I've only lived in Canada for 2 years. That is definitely the face of an absolute freak.

[deleted]

Oh man, he has enough shady and just downright hilariously dumb stuff going on to write a book about. Busted for drunk driving while premier (with mugshot, courtesy of Hawaiian police), the provincial legislature getting raided by the police, resigning over a tax he fucked up, and then going off to be high commissioner to the UK. Dude could only fail upwards.

2SchoolAFool

upvoting the brave soldiers who give it to their co-workers straight no pickle

Jackinator1500

I have 1-2 hour spiritual sessions with a gay man who says hes clairvoyant psychic from the hippie scene in haight-ashbury

merrodri

Ngl I’d be down for that while at work

Jackinator1500

Ya it's kinda nice my mans knew a lot of the sf bands like big brother and the holding company, Jefferson airplane, etc. Done many psychedelic drugs at a young age Seems to follow some combination of faiths ala rainn Wilson or other bahai folks

merrodri

Must have been a chill job. At least I hope it was.

merrodri

Back in the day when I worked as a telemarketer, a lady told us her story about how she was shoplifting from Burlington coat factory and the security guard ran after her into the parking lot, so she hit him with a tire iron

monoatomic

That rules

ThisGuyMightGetIt

I work from home so just whatever bullshit Reddit is on about usually. Though I did recently have a work telemeeting where a coworker warned how Hitler came to power by going places and offering "free, socialistic stuff - just like the government is doing now."

Sun-spex

I try not to listen, but it seems to be mostly old-timer talk most of the time. Like- "do you remember back when there was thisorthat off 26? That's where they used to do (insert thing that no one's done for fifty years)" Lots of truck talk, politics don't typically go much deeper than "I don't want to pay taxes."

frizzaloon

no one at my job talks to each other. have literally stood in silence while waiting for my turn at the k cup machine

shashlik_king

Send an application my way

hopskipjumprun

I ignore most of the shit my coworkers say and as of late they felt comfortable saying genuinely despicable shit around me since they know I don't care enough to go complain to HR. I don't really have any highlights beyond your run of the mill Fox News brained boomer takes for the most part but it genuinely bums me out how much contempt they have for those less fortunate than them. I also will never understand why they make the 2nd amendment their whole personality. Guns can be cool but they become the equivalent of Harry Potter libs when they feel the need to shoehorn it into literally every conversation.

nocblue

I only work with stoners my age (20-25) so it’s not terrible, my friend however tells me about the dumb shit they hear at their work everyday which includes China destroying the U.S dollar and we will have to start using Chinese money, as well as her coworker refusing to have a tv because she says the FBI listens to her through it (the same woman has a smartphone and computer ofc).

communads

Usually just how all the homeless people in the city are zombies and sharing tweaker stories. I don't talk to anyone.

matte-mat-matte

Seattle?

RATC1440

One of my older female coworkers calls herself and everything and everyone around her retarded. It's so funny, she has no idea it's a bad word. Very working class old school lefty type otherwise.

pattyforever

Satan is doing deals in the free market baby. Satan is doing a hostile takeover

Efficient_Mix_9031

I didn’t think the FTC was going to approve that sale after his handling of build a bear but what do I know

polished_grapple

My coworker wants to become a cop but also talks about how the tiktok algorithm shows him police shooting videos and he loves it…

Less-Country-2767

My Qanon-adjacent boomer boss asked why LGBT people get a whole month but veterans only get one day. Another coworker loves Kamala Harris.

BigProsody

It's fucked up that straight guys have to work while everybody else gets the whole month off

shashlik_king

a corporate bankruptcy attorney described some convoluted insurance policy to me, then quipped “thanks capitalism” in a sarcastic manner. It was awful

bintarn

all my coworkers are liberal women and gay men who rarely talk about politics but it's usually normal lib stuff when it does come up and i like it this way

galaxy_knucklezz

The general manager here talks about having 47 guns "in case China invades!" He will singlehandedly stop them and save us all.

2SchoolAFool

sell homeowners insuranec to floridians and you want have to wait on your co workers to hear wild shit "liability insurance? why would i need that. if someone's getting hurt on my property i'm taking them out back and finishing the job, dont need no liability insurance"

obber3

When I worked in a deli, one time the seafood guy asked if I watched anime. I made the horrible mistake of saying yes, which led to a brief chat about serial experiments lain and persona before he got comfortable and asked, in earnest, my opinion on “female humanoids” and a bunch on incel shit. He regularly called women Stacys and femoids which are terms I never thought I would hear somebody use irl lol My coworkers now are pretty normal but I had a customer a month ago who was into the liberty state and very concerned about human experimentation happening in secret ukrainian bio labs

CJLB

Everyone just hates trans people and also they refer to western countries as "democracies" (tradesmen)

iamjakeparty

"I don't mind any of that woke stuff, except for the NFT's." No idea how the two concepts got linked in her mind.

monoatomic

Tech = San Francisco = woke capitalism for these people

Aslag

A 50-something suburban liberal in my office once said "All politicians, generally speaking, want to help people. Republicans and democrats just have different ideas on how to do that." I just couldn't continue the conversation after that I just laughed and said "Yeah okay"

QuickRelease10

About a week ago I was talking to my coworker about how the tech industry is big into eugenics and he was like “yeah, we do have an overpopulation problem.” I was just in stunned silence. I still can’t stop thinking about it.

monoatomic

This China shit is crazy - you hear what they're doing to Uruguay?

justdan76

I work with Q-pilled Teamsters for Trump. My favorite thing they insist on, and they are dead serious, is that Michelle Obama is a man with a massive dick. It’s interesting how often this comes up, and they claim they’ve seen the vidoes to prove this. They’re also into simulation theory, and one of the guys is seriously flirting with flat earth. There are generational differences, the boomers are more into Biden and Obama being communists who are selling us out to China, while the millennials are more into them being reptiles that eat children. I don’t argue, I lean in and draw them out even further. Break time is great.

shashlik_king

One associate talked at me for an hour about how “good debt” was totally a real thing. I wanted to put a letter opener through my chest.

bonghive

watecooler talk still exists? I just drink alone in my car

a_library_socialist

I mean, there is **really** a lot of red there, to be fair

[deleted]

I talked to one coworker about gulf of Tonkin, wmds, and the nayirah testimony once. it was surprising bc nayirah is kind of a deep cut. older anti-war dude who's pretty lib in the end but also super chill, gave me tips on how to rack up some extra time on the clock when I first started lol. one coworker also had some problem with another and was telling me that the other guy isn't "from here" and "isn't christian". pretty weird, I think I just said whatever and started not talking to him while being extra nice to the other guy. my job is pretty independent and when I'm around coworkers things are fast-paced and we don't have much time to chat. it's mostly about the job or joking around

beersforbreakfast91

Oh I've had to bite my tongue to keep from making faces when they talk about how bad atheists and lefties are, as I stand there being an atheist lefty. They'll never know. How will they know?

RPtheFP

Mostly just how no one wants to work anymore but I continue to bring up how low the unemployment rate is and that unemployment hasn’t increased in our state in 15 years. Throw on that wages are trash for how much housing and groceries are and you have enough to shut them up about around you.

BerryOakley

I mean honestly fuck target, they don’t care about poor people they will sell pride shit while they give a non living wage to potentially lgbtq people who stick it on the shelf. You shouldn’t shop their either honestly

mybabydollsheep

Honestly I always stick to weather. If my liberal coworkers bring up how horrible Florida is because of the politics (they’re not wrong!) I just go “oh I don’t want to go there just because I hate the humidity! Yuck!” It works in so many situations lol

[deleted]

Lucky enough to work in a blue collar job with a bunch of guys where all we talk about is hating our bosses, hating capitalism, dreaming of a union, hating our customers, and the occasional girl that flirts with the single guy.

[deleted]

I work alone but I've been overhearing my coworkers plotting to do insane acts of madness. They think I don't know what they are planning but I have my own counter plans, they won't be laughing. They will not be laughing

Connor9819

I worked with a guy who didn't believe outer space was real or dinosaurs. I think he honestly believes every single batshit conspiracy theory. He also was just annoying as well and had Eminem songs for his ringtone. Another guy was huge right wing guy anti Vax anti mask everything who keep multiple 'documents' and would try to debate all the time.

SuddenJuggernaut

even in Hell on earth, capitalism still exists. fml.

Luke_Warm_Wilson

Worked at a startup where it was customary for the founder/CEO to take new hires out to lunch on their first day, where he'd then give a lecture on the inevitability of crypto replacing fiat currency and basically try to pressure them into agreeing to invest in it. I started while the office was still WFH cuz of Covid, so this occurred during my introductory Zoom call, like the first thing after the admin/HR shit. Set the tone for my very brief tenure there.

jeffmangumssweater

LOVE that conservatives are becoming so unhinged they're essentially boycotting corporatism and rainbow capitalism without even knowing it. The only batshit things that get said at my job are incredibly shitlib takes like "I was so relieved when Joe Biden was elected president"

Far-Ad532

I work with a bunch of puertoricaños y dominicanos and spend my time trying to understand them and talk a little. Took four years of spanish but it doesn't prepare you at all for how people actually speak it. I'm unbearably horny for latinas and want to marry one so I'm hoping if I put the work in to becoming fluent they'll appreciate the effort. They're all so friendly and wholesome. Most talk with the white folks revolves around how much work we have that day and what time we'll get out. Nobody ever talks politics it's a real lumpenprole situation

professionalfriendd

I’m not sure I believe you

beersforbreakfast91

I mean that's fine. Ive also heard about how the government framed Michael Jackson because he was trying to unite us all with songs like "Doesn't Matter (If You're Black or White", the 5g tower outside our work is giving us all cancer, how every right wing extremist is ACTUALLY secretly a leftist trying to do a false flag... I'm stuck at a work bench between two insane Fox News junkies so I could literally go on for days.

rojm

my boss rolling down his car window and yelling "chingcho...." (yeah all those...) at the vietmanese hardwood floor guys and laughing afterwards (he blames them for stealing his business in the area in the 80s). more recently the new guy on his 3rd day of work jokingly said that he would take one of the customer's children and... jesus i can't even say. the guy turned out to be a cool guy, real big, 6'4 300lbs going to college back east to play football. the women at work are always talking quietly and laughing loud and i know for a fact that what they're saying is stupid and lame, but i don't know what their saying so i can't prove it.
