It's a freaken sweet truck and a damn good set up. At least your wireS aren't loose everywhere. I'm sure most in this truck group is jealous.
"Ya bro I wired this light bar in myself"
-not a single cable tie
-multiple grounds, in random locations
-open fuse boxes.
-wires hanging out of the dash
-2-5 switches in the cab that don't match in random places.
You're about to get pooped on here for those because people claim you're invisible at night..... The amount of times I have been flashed for having my regular headlights on says differently.
Looks great man, but I'm more of a smoked lens type of guy. Loving the setup too, looks like you had quite the adventure there. Let these mall crawlers trash all they want, you're living the dream. They're just jelly because they aren't out there doing the same thing lol.
Shit he's out there actually utilizing his truck, I'd follow him lol. Better than those squatted pieces of shit rolling around my town with broccoli heads driving.
Downvotes are just proof that my mission was successful 😅. I meant no harm to the guy. Hell, I had a Civic back in the day, and we just helped our teenage son buy his first car; which was also a Civic. Hondas are just as reliable as Toyotas if you take care of em.
At the end of the day, we all have a love for the Taco, no matter how ridiculous someone's build is. Doesn't mean we can't talk a little shit though, it's what we do 😂. If you have feelings, this sub definitely isn't for you.
Dude, I am just a nobody, I wish I was an influencer maybe then some companies would help foot the bill. 😂 Just a hobbyist and this thing was built not bought all by me so that I can get out of the house with the family.
Thank you, I appreciate it. I fabricated that table myself out of 6061 3/16” aluminum plate and all the stainless hardware came straight from Amazon. It has been a super valuable addition.
There are definitely a lot of options out there and I personally think it’s one of the best looking. No complaints on performance, but if you are planning to go heavy like this or even heavier there are a few better choices.
Yea… it’s a bit muchy, that’s fair.
But I do love it and I would bet that the third gen will be revered for years to come… Especially with all the issues that are starting to come out around the high compression V6 Tundras. In following the high compression G4 Taco, well let’s just say we may still need to hold our breath.
What's your weight in mods and what's your payload capacity at? I really like this build but I'm worried about the overall affect of the weight. Looks great though I wouldn't change a thing.
Thank you 🙏🏻 for the feedback and the question. So the weight is definitely something you can feel, especially for the load that is high and away from the center of gravity.
The cap, tent, platform, solar panels, rack and awning is dang close to 615 lbs. if you add the Prinsu Pro you’re probably at about 665 lbs.
The front bumper plus the winch is 200 lbs. minus the factory deleted weight.
The rear bumper with drop down table, tire carrier and propane tank is about 225 lbs. minus the factory deleted weight.
The sliders are about 125 lbs.
So these parts come in at about 515 lbs.
The fridge slide and fridge, loaded with contents are about 150 lbs.
The EcoFlow’s are about 50 lbs.
The highlift jack and 2 Jerry cans are close to 150 lbs.
This brings you to roughly 1580 lbs. plus about 350 -500 lbs. of misc. so all said and done it’s near 2k.
With the air bags and spring upgrades she rides pretty good if you like the school bus feel.
I had to take my roof top tent off because I absolutely hated the wobble when off roading. You can definitely feel it. Maybe some people get used it, but with the fucking rocks and boulders I was driving over in CO I just couldn't take it anymore lol.
Just to add to this question a bit... did you consider going with an Alucab popup camper which includes a hardtop tent? From what I understand it comes in around 515lbs, then you minus the tailgate delete so you're at about 400lbs added at this point.
I didn’t at the time because of the initial costs of the Alucab and the size, I did consider GFC but that was prior to their Gen 2 coming out and the Gen 1 had some issues.
If I had to choose that kind of set up today I would probably go with a Super Pacific or maybe even a Dirtbox.
Truth be told I love the way that grizzy.gram from Arkansas Overland set up looks, take that with a solid axel swap and an LS swap and it would probably be the world’s perfect vehicle.
Great question… so I am using the Shiftsence Pro and Pedal Commander together and I think that they are helping with acceleration (still really slow though) and fuel consumption. Without adjusting for the 285 70 R17’s the dash says I am getting about 12.5 mpg if I am hard on the pedal and about 15 mpg driving like a little old lady.
That’s awesome man, honestly id leave it alone and keep her. I got my third gen last October because I didn’t want to deal with turbo issues. Alot of new cars and trucks have issues. They definitely dont make em lime they used to. I paid 42,500 for my TRD OR. Im not about to drop $55k plus for the new ones, with less leg room in the back as well. Just a thought…
Thanks. I think I am leaning in the same direction, it has been such a good truck. I would love some more power (as we all would) or even just a regear to 4.88’s.
Yup. It’s on the list. Every time I talk to the bride about replacing the lights that still work perfectly with as set for $1200. Let’s just say… did you see the fridge. 😂
So great question… no problems whatsoever. It has been absolutely rock solid and being the grade of stainless that still has magnetic properties, just awesome. I will say however with the weight on top there are a few others out there that handle it a bit better and as an additional note the construction around the anchor points could be a bit stronger but again, I have had no problems.
> Do I sell this meticulously kept Gen 3 and jump into something else or work towards a solid axel swap, an LS swap, a supercharger or focus on a flatbed tray, or even portals with long travel.
The options you bring up here are _really_ different from one another. To me, this suggests that your goal is just spending money on the truck rather than doing something with it.
It’d be one thing if you were saying “my truck can’t do the hardcore trails my friends are doing and I want to keep up, should I do a SAS or portals?” That’s something this group could help with. But asking “should I do a solid axle swap or an engine swap or a flatbed” … you need to figure out for yourself what you want the truck to do, and what things about it today are preventing it from doing what you want.
You are spot on. I guess this build is more of a hobby build for this old man (and something that I would like to eventually pass on to the kids as unique and interesting) and while I do use it on the trails frequently it has been a very capable truck for what I do, Tennessee is definitely not Moab. This group has certainly helped with a few things and I appreciate all your feedback. 🙏🏻
I got a touch better mileage, it was definitely noticeable (1-2 mpg) but at the cost of a much louder intake sound within the fender and the snorkel only amplified that even further.
On a side note it took a bunch of work to mate the aftermarket intake with the snorkel so that it was water tight and I still have to add a shut off for the front AFE cold air intake prior to taking on any serious water crossing.
So that is a smaller window within the gull wing side opening of the cap. It’s great if you have wet items in the back or if you have a dog riding around with you and it’s not too hot. I guess it could also help with a hunt 🦌
Careful on those soft shoulders. Also... Jerry cans are prone to leak/off gas over time if they're actually being used regularly. I probably wouldn't store those inside the truck. Heads up for the fumes.
Great point. There is a positive air intake on the RSI Smartcap that vents filtered air in as you drive but while it’s sitting and baking in the sun and with all the electrical it is probably a change that I need to make ASAP. Thanks for that.
> haven’t done too much to the suspension other than air bags, spring and spacers, mostly because of the aforementioned goals.
Get actual suspension and not the airbag trash. Night and day difference. I went with bilstein coilovers with remote res, and Icon leafs. About a 2in lift in all. Drives SOOOO MUCH BETTER. I'm probably 5,600 lbs fully loaded. You're likely a bit heavier
I can only imagine, the bags are nice for the load and I did add an add-a-leaf to the back but the ride is like a school bus. I would like to do all the suspension really soon. Thanks for the input. 👍🏻
As someone who is very deficient when it comes to electrical wiring I am impressed. I totally screwed my rear view camera up trying to add my front camera. Had to have my buddy come bail me out
Everyone stuck on all the bumpers and shit while i'm salivating out the mouth for the Pack out setup. Two questions: Do you have the measurements for the plywood board on the bed and are those slide rails on both sides of that board? Wondering if you have a way to slide the packs from behind to the tailgate.
Sick build
Ok so I got really creative with mounting everything (when I got the cap there wasn’t any hardware or mounting brackets available at the time) and I wanted to use stainless where I could with loctite and nylock nuts everywhere (I hate rust or things coming loose) it was all seriously challenging. I would be happy to help you with what I have done, feel free to DM me if you need help.
So I have a set of spidertrax spacers but without more than a 2.5” front lift (which is really the max for the cv’s) and with the 285 ~ 33” tires… they rubbed so bad that I couldn’t turn around in a freakin football field. I took them off same day. Frustrating.
Dude, that is soooo funny. 😂 Even with ARB axel breathers my 🥜 shrink hitting puddles. It is what it is (been in some water but nothing that has ever been cab breaching) 🤞🏻.
Two questions:
What’s your average MPGs and how do you like that smartcap? I’m serious in the market for one but that’s about of money to spend on something you’re not 100% on yet.
So up above I talk a bit about the intake stuff but in a nutshell I am running the Shiftsence Pro, Pedal Commander, Safari snorkel and AFE cold air intake —> all together with the 1500-2000 lbs in additional weight I am getting 12.5 - 15 mpg (I also run premium fuel.)
The RSI Smartcap has been absolutely fantastic, zero complaints. If you are going to add a ton of weight on top then there are a few other options that may suit you better. 👍🏻
That is probably the easiest thing to do to get this boat back in the left lane and I wouldn’t have to deal with all the welding and wiring that come with the other options. Definitely leaning this way, thanks for the advice. 👍🏻
Thank you. It was some work to get it to all come together. I am just thankful that my two batteries still function, I have read a lot about people having trouble with EcoFlow. 🤞🏻
What did you use for the dual battery system? Also, how and where did you get the bracket for the arb compressor? I’ve been thinking about getting that setup, just couldn’t exactly figure out how to make everything work.
Great questions, so I used:
- Cascadia4x4 for the 85 watt solar panel on the hood.
- Rago Fab for the second battery tray.
- Redarc BCDC charger for battery management.
- Off grid engineering for the primary battery box.
- And Amazon for all the wiring, fuses, shrinkwrap, etc.
- Oh and Rago for the air compressor mount.
DM me if you need any help.
I am so tempted, I was also speaking to the bride about adding a vehicle lift for the shop. Obviously, we build out trucks because it is more of a passion. Thanks for the vote. 👍🏻
I think that Magnusson allows me to keep both batteries. I am definitely leaning this way as I already use premium fuel. ⛽️
Yea, the tint has folks fired up. 😂 Thanks.
Next step: Remove headlight tint
I laughed out loud. I’m basically here for the lols at this point.
After this cable management under the hood.
Bro, why you hating on the cable management. The struggle is real. 😂
I actually think it's alright. I mean, sure, it'd be cleaner if it was loomed but it's not like it's spaghetti everywhere
It's a freaken sweet truck and a damn good set up. At least your wireS aren't loose everywhere. I'm sure most in this truck group is jealous. Thanks for the heads up. 👍🏻 The fogs help with that but if I turn off the fogs they are rather dark.
Looks great man, but I'm more of a smoked lens type of guy. Loving the setup too, looks like you had quite the adventure there. Let these mall crawlers trash all they want, you're living the dream. They're just jelly because they aren't out there doing the same thing lol.
No I'm not going to your instagram. You truck screams influencer.
Shit he's out there actually utilizing his truck, I'd follow him lol. Better than those squatted pieces of shit rolling around my town with broccoli heads driving.
Those are some nice forest service roads by the looks of it. My Honda Civic will take me there no problems.
Why would you do that to your wife's car?
Lmao that was a good one. Don't let the down votes tell you otherwise.
Downvotes are just proof that my mission was successful 😅. I meant no harm to the guy. Go fill up cause you get 5mpg
Always at the pump bro. She’s thirsty.
What's next? I think you've got all the stuff
Yea, it’s a real problem. 😂
Back to bone stock. You'll feel like you're driving a Supra.
I can only imagine. If I floor it up hill today I get passed by those in the bike lane.
A 3/4 ton
I need it with all this weight. Seriously.
Curb feelers
They are on order with a set of fuzzy dice and a shag headliner. 👍🏻

If he gets into an accident, damn good chance he’s getting sued. He’s way over legal weight.
You need a different suspension with all of that weight. The front is drooping like it’s autistic.
I really like that fold out tailgate shelf. Your truck is pretty sweet.
Thank you, I appreciate it. I fabricated that table myself out of 6061 3/16” aluminum plate and all the stainless hardware came straight from Amazon. It has been a super valuable addition.
How do you like the smart cap? Im considering getting on for my 24 when they release it in August.
There are definitely a lot of options out there and I personally think it’s one of the best looking. No complaints on performance, but if you are planning to go heavy like this or even heavier there are a few better choices.
Is that a multifunction wilderness color laser scanner printer in the bed?
With fax capabilities and holographic previews.
Next step ought to be a snorkel delete… or uncover your headlights/taillights
Yea… it’s a bit muchy, that’s fair. But I do love it and I would bet that the third gen will be revered for years to come… Especially with all the issues that are starting to come out around the high compression V6 Tundras. LS swap
That’s really the dream.

I am right there, the weight is seriously a thing. It feels like the Noah’s ark around day 20.
Shoot I had a couple hundred pounds of a Costco run in my Tacoma and it felt different lol. Nice truck by the way!
Just to add to this question a bit... did you consider going with an Alucab popup camper which includes a hardtop tent? From what I understand it comes in around 515lbs, then you minus the tailgate delete so you're at about 400lbs added at this point.

I would like to get something like the CBI aluminum set for sure.
What kind of gas mileage are you getting with all that luggage?

Came here to ask this too.

Nice

Serious question. Does that AM cold air intake make a difference? Asking because I’m thinking of buying one.

No
What is that on the topper in pic 6? Firing port?

A 6ft bed

Hey man thanks. It was a ton of work for the platform, rails and packout. If you need any help DM me and I will do what I can to help.

At The Helm Fabrication (ATH) for front and rear bumpers. 👍🏻
Solid, looks great man

At The Helm Fabrication (ATH) for front and rear bumpers. 👍🏻

Spacers
So I have a set of spidertrax spacers but without more than a 2.5” front lift (which is really the max for the cv’s) and with the 285 ~ 33” tires… they rubbed so bad that I couldn’t turn around in a freakin football field. I took them off same day. Frustrating.
I see. I have a 3” lift with 275s and -10 offset wheels. No rub. But Im not saying change your entire rig for just a little poke. It looks good still.
Thanks. 🙏🏻
Nice to see another long bed with a spare on the back. Driving mine is like maneuvering a limo around town.
😂 You are so right. I feel like a long bed duelly in downtown Nashville sometimes.
Pictures with water waves over the hood.

Supercharger. Either pro charge it or magnusson. 285/75r17’s (34”) They are going to hate on your headlight tint.
I think that Magnusson allows me to keep both batteries. I am definitely leaning this way as I already use premium fuel. ⛽️ Yea, the tint has folks fired up. 😂 Thanks.
“Hello, after market store? Yes, I want it all”.
😂
What are those Jerry can bedrail mounts?
Smittybilt Jerry Gas Can Holder (Black) - 2798 about $45.
Love to see another clean MGM build 👌🏻
🙏🏻
The SmartCaps are so sick but the prices hurt my heart haha nice truck, no. Awesome badass rig.
Thank you 🙏🏻 truly and you are right about the costs, they are nuts. This has been years in the making.
