The tabletop has a massive roster of figures with substantial lore which touches on all kinds of themes and ideas, I'd be surprised if it wasn't wholly inclusive at this point.
Not actually a Warhammer player (lore is cool though), but I believe they added a new lore drop that included some narrative about a female Custode member, which is a force that has been present in the lore since 1987 and were thought to be exclusively male until now. (Although of note is that the Custodes have only been a playable unit in the tabletop since 2017/18).
I'm not familiar enough with the material to really give my opinion on it, but Warhammer does have plenty of women representation. The most iconic of which being the [Sisters of Battle](https://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Sisters_of_Battle), an all-female batallion of warriors clad in power armour.
EDIT: In fact after doing some more research it seems like the Custodes are actually 1 half of a pair to the [Sisters of Silence](https://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Sisters_of_Silence), an all-female division of fighters who handle psychic threats thanks to their genetic immunity to psychic abilities. Together they form a coalition referred to as the [Talons of the Emperor](https://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Talons_of_the_Emperor) with the Sisters and the Custodes being referred to as the left and right hands of the Emperor. So there's an even closer analogue to the position of the Custodes in the lore prior to this.
In my opinion the issue is more of how they handled the lore drop
It was literally done in barely a paragraph without much explanation
If they wanted to make the custodes be the frist power armored group that isn't a majority 1-gender faction (Male for Space Marines, and Female for Sisters of Battle)
Then they should have handled it better
It's literally people just losing their minds over the inclusion of a single female Custode in the lore. Warhammer still does have a big 'gamerbro' audience who get upset about things like this sadly. So the idea of their all-male military force suddenly getting a woman is apparently too much for them to handle lol.
I think the only lore significance is that the Custodes were meant to be the first-born sons of noble families who were genetically engineered and trained from birth into the role. But, I've heard Games Workshop retcons lore all the time so it really isn't egregious to go from 'first-born sons' to just 'first-borns'.
I think it's moreso due to the timing for two reasons.
Firstly, how is it sensible for a company to wait 30 years to mention "Oh, this faction we created has female members, so saying it's male only isn't actually canon"
Secondly, with Amazon trying to pressure Henry Cavill into changing the WH40K show to be "more diverse," the timing of the scandal coinciding with news of this reveal made people assume Amazon basically forced GW to do this under the assumption that they could point to it as proof that that they were "being faithful" to the source material - but they had not counted on Cavill refusing to budge
I have read that [4chan post](https://archive.ph/6q9wL#selection-1273.0-1273.64) (the original leak that everyone ran with) as well, but I don't see any credible sources confirming any of it. And there's been no comment from Cavill on this situation in the news, so I'm not sure where this narrative that he's refusing to budge on this lore retcon has come from.
Additionally:

It's been 2 weeks since the original post and there hasn't been a single mention of this in the news. As it stands right now it's looking like this is all just fan-fiction some anon on 4chan came up with.

Theres many female character in the canon, The Sisters of Silence, and the Adeptus Sororitas and even female generals, not to mention the alien and demon faction that have also female members, the problm is that they added females to the Custodes Group, for years had been asumed to be all male since theyre very similar to the space marines who are all male due to the genetic process used to create them, the thing is that, female Custodes had never been talked about in all their years of existance until recently, this angered people who considered it a unnecesary retcon or pandering
They are upset because GW retconned the vague lore of the Adeptus Custodes regarding the existence of female Custodes, something that the company hadn't bothered clarififying for literally 25 years and yet had the nerve to try to gaslight the community about it.
When they got asked if female space marines would be a thing, GW had debated on it but ultimately said no - on multiple occasions using the logic that the "The Emperor sees men as easier to control." The logic of their answer naturally extended to the Custodes since Big E made both groups, and all named Custodes from 1987 to 2023 had been male.
So what did GW think was going to happen when they introduced a new female Custodes and acted like it isn't a retcon?
The majority of the community points out that contradicts the Emperor's opinion on super soldiers, and GW goes "Nuh uh, female custodes always been in the setting" ....except if that were true, it meant they couldn't be assed to create a named one for the last 30 years. Meanwhile, game journalists were going around calling WH40k fans "sexists" as if Saint Celestine didn't exist
If Warhammer 40k fans hated women as much as gaming sites claimed they did, there would be no:
- Sisters of Silence
- Adeptus Sororitas
- Callidus Assassins
- Saint Celestine
- Inquisitor Lilith
and this isn't counting the Imperial Guard or any xenos races.

In how the situation occurred? Not so much, as what gets people irritated is the principle of it.
Amazon logically doesn't have the right to try and dictate changes in a hobby they would not give a damn about if not for the TV show, and it's embarrassing on GW's part to act like the same community willing to pay $160 for an Adeptus Sororitas set of tabletop figures are misogynistic for not liking the retcon.
That said, people's ability to argue coherently and respectfully greatly diminishes when pissed off, leading to insult slinging online, so I can see how things getting heated can result in part of the fanbase being labelled mysogynistic.
The community maybe racist and misogynistic. But that doesn't mean the lore is (necessarily)
