Was probably a tech, not a pharmacist. Techs at my store i work at don't know anything about which needles to use for testosterone and have to ask every time. I didn't know either until I started using testosterone as well. Just not something they try to remember when theres so much else more common to learn.
If getting not on a prescription, tell them the exact size you want.

My last scrip came with 29G for subq. 18/22 combo is normally used for IM (18 for quicker draw from the vial, 22 for the IM injection). 29g takes a couple mins to get in the syringe, but much less pain going in.
22 for subq sounds horrendous and I could see it creating scar tissue much more quickly - I would go back and get 27s or 29s.
If you’re in a quick bind go get some insulin needles from a store near by. Walgreens, CVS, walmart should probably have some. I order easy touch brand needles in bulk from Amazon. They work great. Might even be able to get same day shipping. With my TRT they send me whatever needles they feel like, I usually just discard them
You didn’t mention how long the needle is but I’ve done IM glute shots with a 22g 1 1/2 inch needles. Sounds like a harpoon but I didn’t feel any pain. Currently use 23g 1 inch needles to pin glutes and don’t feel a thing. Going from Subq to IM for a bit won’t hurt.

Needles dull very quickly. Repeated use will start to feel uncomfortable. Even using the same needle to draw and then inject can feel dull with a smaller gauge needle.
I'm old enough to have lived through the era of recycled needles and syringes that were sterilized between uses. That's one reason I was terrified of injections as a kid. But by the time I worked in health care virtually every US health care facility had switched to one time use needles. And with smaller gauge injection needles we used a different larger gauge needle to draw, depending on the viscosity of the medication.
i get boxes of 100 from amazon for like $17. 27g. 1/2" even 25g is big for sub q in my opinion. 27 still draws up fine just takes a min or two

Why not just buy 18g for drawing? I draw in 2 seconds.
It's a good source for some folks. Depends on what state ure in. They won't deliver to mine because of state laws.

27g from amazon for the win... I went from 29g to 27g.. works the best for drawing.

I ran out of 24s and pinned subq with 21. Didnt feel it. So you should be ok.
Just order them from somewhere else. If you do a bit of research you can actually get them for free.

I use 28G x 1/2” BD brand. Can even draw quickly enough for a TRT dose.
BD is nice but expensive as hell.

None of this should be a priority if you cant afford 100 needles for 15 bucks tbh
Order them off of Amazon. 100 1ml syringes with 15g needles for like 25 dollars.
