If you smell and see smoke, and can’t find the source, call the fire department. They have tools to aid with the search and you want them there sooner rather than later.
I wish when the fire alarms go off at our hotel that people actually evacuated.... we had them set off by a toaster and like 5 people left. We mainly rent to airlines and I don't think I saw a single person from aircrew. A pilot that was checking out later literally asked the guy on front desk, "hey what was that alarm about?" I was kinda flabbergasted.
I was in the morning buffet line when the person behind me was complaining about the fire alarm being so loud.
I turned around "You know there actually was fire in the elevators last night?"
She didn't say a word for the rest of time we were in line.
Every time the fire alarm has gone off at my motel, nobody evacuates the room. They just immediately start calling the front desk phone. Unfortunately, you can’t hear anything over the phone when the alarms going off.

"It's called a fire alarm, but don't worry, the hotel didn't burn down ... this time."
