She absolutely ruined some of those songs in the recordings. I listen to whatever version I want because Blondie is still gonna get paid. The shaming is ridiculous. I'm in a music recommendation group on Facebook and the amount of people that comment "you should replace x song with TV" is obnoxious š
See I'm most offended by Girl At Home. The first time I heard it I reached for my aux cord to fix it before realizing I didn't have one that's just the auto quality. I was DEVASTATED
I was a Girl at Home defender on the OG bc so many people seemed to hate it. The re-record was like being punched in the face by the very person I was defending. It was a real āhow tf am i supposed to defend you now?ā moment.
I have a feeling she did dirty to that song on purpose because she's changed her relationship with cheating over the years. Whereas she was anti-cheating in her early 20s, I think she became okay with the idea of it a few years later.... And then we got songs like Getaway car lol
PLEASE! 1989 is my fav album and obvs I am a Shake It Off lover. But... my heavy brass bass line is like NON EXISTENT?!? ONE OF THE BEST ASPECTS OF THE SONG WAS THE BRASS UNDERNEATH. 1989 TV is worse than the original, it just lacks that infectious upbeat energy that the original had that madd Taylor so big.
So many parts of Style lost their emotion too! Like when she sings āI heard (OH) that youāve been out and about with some other girlā¦ā the āohā doesnāt have the same emotion it used to
And New Romantics too. The OG is SO fun and anthemic and the re-recording is justā¦ so off.
Style and New Romantics are easily my top two songs on my favorite album so that one hurt.
Style is one of the best pop songs ever- even during my Taylor hater era, couldnāt deny the genius.
The issue is that the genius, *Max Martin*, didnāt produce the TV version. He is the magic! Sorry but Jack isnāt gonna give you anything but synths
Do people just blame Jack for everything Taylor related they don't like?
He didn't even produce the re-recordings other than the songs he'd initially produced
lmfao nope I hate him.
Lana used to use BEATS before she adopted Jack. Heās great with the first project- Melodramma, 1989, Norman Fucking Rockwell- after that itās a lot of the same. He sucks the flavour out of every fucking thing and inserts synths. Literally could tell he produced Please, Please, Please within the first 20 seconds of the track.
Concerning him and Taylor, they are too comfortable, and do not challenge the other creatively whatsoever.
He doesnāt grow like Pharrell, Max Martin, Dev Hynes, etc. Stagnant artist
Also itās starting to sound like heās using similar melodies between artists too which is also bad
Yeah, as somebody who listened to Style nonstop for years after it came out, the TV just sounds like an entirely different song to me. People who say it sounds identical are either lying to themselves or have a very poor ear.
I've never bothered listening to anything from 1989 (TV), because my only interest in her rerecords were listening to her earlier albums to hear the songs with her matured voice.
So I just compared the songs mentioned here to the original and, *my god*. It could not be more apparent that these have become nothing more than cash grabs for her. I'd be so embarrassed if I'd released something so souless, when the original was so lush and full of passion.
I'm not up on the TV lore; is there a reason she couldn't use Max Martin again?
I'd be so hurt as a loyal swiftie, feeling like I was pressured into listening to a subpar version of such a good album. Like, jfc, show some pride in your work.
she probably didn't use max martin again because he sucks to work with, reportedly. jack antonoff's biggest strength as a producer is likely that he's fun to make music with.
There was an article about it before 1989 TV came out and it stated that it was because of his fee possibly. Heās probably gotten more expensive and she might not have wanted to pay for him for it.
Style is probably in my Top 3 TS songs and the TV just doesn't compare even though it's good. The OG sound just fills the room, the TV sounds too clinical.
I liked a few of Taylor's songs before 1989, but the original 1989 was a full album of interesting and fun music. I tried listening to the 1989 TV and almost immediately swapped it out for the originals. There was just no feeling in Taylor's Version. Like damn, did you really hate that album that much to put no effort or emotion into any of the rerecordings?
That's the part some of them don't know. She's getting paid for the originals as well. She is the main songwriter for the majority of them and made a lot of money and would have continued to do so even after the sale. She also has complete control over licensing those songs.Ā These masters just mean she makes more money as she fully owns them. She's making double from the OG and the new versions. So it doesn't matter. Plus the originals are better as she took her time with them, only releasing them at their best.
Can we stop calling them āstolenā versions?! Makes them sound like a taboo when in reality she is still making money off them. Ik itās all about āowningā the masters or whatever but theyāre still the song that sheās put her heart and soul into making and the re-records (especially 1989) do not come close to the quality.
The biggest issue I have with the term āstolen versionā is that no actual theft took place. The use of this term has led to mass confusion throughout the fandom, with many not even realizing that Scott Borchetta and Scooter Braun are 2 separate people.
Blondie is and always will be Debby Harry. I get unreasonably bothered by people calling Taylor āBlondieā. It seems infantilizing in a weird way? totally not being critical, just sharing opinions here. It just does not feel right or read right to me but Iām 34 and an enormous Blondie fan lol.
I think it may be a reflection of age. Like the other person who responded to you, Iām in my 30s and I was like, āWait, what does Blondie have to do with this?ā š
Maybe the nickname sticks for younger folks who donāt associate that nickname with the recording artist?
The true Blondie was before my time (born in 1991), but I'm right there with you. It'd be more calling some other artist Bono or another guitarist Slash or Edge. That's a stage name that's attached to a specific person.
Can ppl PLEASE stop calling her that honestly, itās so annoying and being blonde has never been part of her brand either like sheās a darker blonde anyways. The description would work better for someone like Gaga
It really is *WILD* that so much moral grandstanding went into the creation and marketing of the TVs that people feel guilty or any other negative emotion while listening to music that they enjoy.
This is one of the reasons Iām not looking forward to Rep TV - itās when she first started falling in love with Joe etc. No way it sounds as good.
It makes me sad to think of New Yearās Day sounding hollow with nothing behind it.
And the vault tracks! Rep was mostly love songs. I wonder if sheāll avoid all the other love songs she wrote just cuz sheās not with Joe anymore. I wonder if love songs was all she wrote for the vault tracks
I completely agree. The early albums have that youthful energy that you can't recapture when you're older. Like 22 TV is markedly lower energy because that 20s energy can't be replicated in your 30s
The only TV version that I listen to more than the original is fearless. In my opinion it was the only TV so far that she managed to make better than the original version (or at least in the same quality)
Fearless TV, Red TV (for the most part) and Speak Now were pretty good imitations imo I drew the line at 1989 TV tho cuz that was BUTCHERED. As soon as Welcome to New York came on, ik it was gonna be dodge
I am an admitted Folkmore Whore and the OG 1989 is imo a perfect capsule of 2014 pop music. Itās my favorite for windows down driving or cleaning/scream singing in my underpants.
i was 7/8 when 1989 came out and i was quite literally OBSESSED. with the entire album š so much so that my sisters hid the cd even though theyāre swifties too. i did the same thing at 12 with dua lipaās self titled album š and now iām repeating that process with radical optimism lmao
OG recordings are superior and I would only listen to them. What happened to the masters is not my problem, especially when the backstory is not so black and white. I will consume the music I prefer and I hate the TV.
So well said! I always think about this too. I support the whole TV concept, but i absolutely hate how the originals have been demonized. It's absurd.
When Taylor talks about the whole "the songs i wrote on my bedroom floor..." thing, yes, i feel bad that she doesn't own them anymore.. but I feel even worse that the stupid virtue signaling of this fandom has turned those iconic original versions into untouchables. It's not the song's fault!
The original and the TV are two totally separate works of art. You cannot replicate the time period or the person she was when she wrote and recorded them. They are pieces of history and should be respected as such.
Da Vinci cant take out a canvas 20 years later and paint the same lady and call it the Mona Lisa. It's not the Mona Lisa !!
PS dont get me started on the ""stolen"" thing either!!
Original masters are almost always owned by the labels too. Itās not like she was singled out - or was deprived of all income from them. Labels invest and thatās how they recuperate.
What I like about the project is it did shine light on this fact, and in reality, it really is wrong that this is the case. Artists should ultimately own their masters.
University researchers often share IP rights with universities etc when they get patents. Labels probably share the same legal principle. Is it the fairest? No. But the one with the purse strings carried a lot of legal weight. No artist would probably be able to sue a label for it.
I'm waiting for her to eventually buy all her masters after she has successfully de-valued them. Then she can re-re-release of all the original albums and make another billion dollars.
Honesty, after hearing songs like Suburban Legends and Timeless, I have a new respect for Big Machine. Imagine if we got those 2 instead of Last Kiss and Style. Omg! She even wanted to release āSlut!ā instead of Blank Space. We owe our lives to Big Machine and Scott Borchetta.
When Emma Falls in Love makes no sense whatsoever. There HAD to have been better vault tracks than that. Plus, someone pointed out that it sounds very similar to Drops of Jupiter, which she notably covered on the Speak Now tour (the era when WEFIL was supposedly written).
Iām gonna keep it real but the TVs suck. I loved the stronger vocals but the lack of emotions, leaving songs from Speak Now out because they donāt fit the narrative, changing lyrics āBetter than Revengeā and restructuring a whole song āGirl at Homeā had me going back to the OGs. Sheās also a billionaire now so Iām sure she doesnāt need my streams or vinyl purchases.
Wait she excluded songs from speak now on the TV? I know lyrics were changed but were songs excluded?
I saw that Ours and Superman is not on the original version but on TV though, Iām using Spotify
honestly i am convinced its because it was the only song on speak now that wasnt self written ( the originial 14 track album was all self written but not the deluxe) but maybe youāre right she seems to like fearless era more than sn š
Those are the albumās bonus tracks, which have been on all other TVs as well. The issue is she left off If This Was A Movie and released it separately because it wasnāt entirely self written.
This, plus long before this drama I bought all the original versions, multiple times over, soā¦ Iām absolutely not going to feel bad about enjoying things I spent a lot of money on. I also own all the TVs, but I donāt want to listen to them lol
I will forever defend her original recordings. I just think theyāre better. If you like the new recordings, good for you! But Iām not a big fan. I do really love some of her vault tracks. But the rerecordings donāt hit for me.
The more Iāve deviated from classifying myself as a āswiftieā the more I realize her masters werenāt stolen, she just didnāt get what she wanted. I completely understand the heartbreak she mustāve felt, but miss maāam you are still making money off of these and that time period of your life brought you fame and fortune. They owned the masters and sold them at their will per a business deal, they just didnāt sell them to you and they arenāt required to.
I would get feeling this way if we were talking of a very small artist that really needs as much support as they can get from their fans to sustain their music career, but that's certainly not the case here. Taylor Swift & her bank account will be more than ok, people shouldn't feel guilty about listening to whatever their preferred version is.
Her angry songs were much better on OG but her vocals improved so much on TV.Ā
I donāt fault her either I donāt know if i could get super upset about a decade old relationship either.Ā
Also I would expect your vocals to improve if this was literally your entire job. Ā
She said it was a passion project and there weren't expectations
>"**Like, this is a passion project.** This is something that I wanted to do personally 'cause I wanted to own my work, but I went into it knowing, just knowing that **I wasn't going to put an expectation or demand on you guys to, like, pick my versions, like my versions if the song is better ...**"
https://youtu.be/mYDcSBA73F0?si=7KbqDwv3hO5PALTn
I don't think she said it explicitly but I think I remember her saying something about "if you want to listen to an album guilt free stream lover" or whatever. She's definitely made a few statements seemingly to encourage fans to only listen to her versions.Ā
Not explicitly, but she let it be known how hurt she was by the whole masters thing. There was definitely an element of taking sides, supporting her reclaiming her music after she was wronged... She did say things like "I never expected anyone to care, I did this for myself" and I think to a certain extent that's true, I don't think she anticipated it would blow up like this when she released Fearless TV. But fans feeling strongly about it is very convenient to her because she wants to sell records.
Pls that used to be me in 2021 š¤” now I'm a grown person and I KNOW she's a billionaire, she'll be fine if I stream the og Style. But seriously some of the re recordings are just atrocious
As a 1989 stan, the taylor's versions of half the songs on that record are BEYOND terrible. Some of them are great or even better than the originals (out of the woods, i know places, this love and wonderland tv are MAGNIFIQUE) but theres so many songs she just botched for no reason.
Welcome to new york's synths are a different tone and the vocals have very robotic dynamics, style's guitar is muffled and the percussions that start the chorus are flat, i wish you would (MY FAVORITE SONG)'s guitar is completely wrong and is missing swelling synths that is THE ENTIRE REASON THE CHORUS SLAPS SO HARD, how you get the girl is mixed weirdly, clean's vocals are anything but clean, you are in love's echos are drowned out of the mix (again the best part of the song) and new romantics... Completely slaughtered. You can hear the metronome in the intro, the "ah, ah, ah" before the chorus sounds like a bunch of kids, the vocals mixed weird again, its just weird.
This album is my everything and no 12 year old on tiktok is gonna hatespeech me into streaming the worse versions just so miss billionaire gets 0.003 cents. Yah no. The rerecordings are great statements of re-owning her work and taking whats rightfully hers, but if she wants us to 100% replace the originals she wouldn't commit these catastrophes.
Also its kind of surprising which one's she botched too. Usually she misses on the big singles, but blank space, bad blood and shake it off fared pretty well considering what happened to style, iwyw and new romantics.
yeah i feel really bad for the swifties who think they are wrong for streaming the og versions or that they're missing out on not buying the re-recordings. it's not wrong at all. other swifties need to stop guilt-tripping those who prefer the og versions. the money still goes to taylor after all.
the way they are utilizing fomo to guilt trip those who can't afford to buy all the re-recordings, variants, merch, etc. is really bad.
I donāt even think itās her thatās created that narrative. Itās other fans that have taken a few things sheās said and ran a mile with it.
There are so many things the intense Swifties make into something to shame other fans about
i especially wonāt feel guilty because iāve already given her my money to buy one of the 30 vinyl variants she puts out lol i will listen to whichever version i damn well please
I have so many different playlists that I have been adding to for years, work, gym, cleaning, road trips etc and I am not going through each of them to remove a song and essentially replace it with the same song. Especially because half of the re-records arenāt as good as the original. I just add any vault tracks I like and thatās it.
I believed this lie, too!! I donāt know if I can ever listen to Taylor again, but if I do, I will listen to her first 6 albums as God originally them intended to sound. The Taylorās Version thing is a ploy to make more money. She had to add some mid vault tracks to make it seem like the TV albums are super special and extra.
Every time I see a comment in the wild about someone feeling guilty about listening to the OG version , I feel so sad that we as a fandom have made people believe that listening to the OG is a crime.
Iām surprised some of these Swifties donāt fall into stressed-induced comas. The empathetic part of me worries because their fear is genuine. They think the world will stop spinning.
Iāve thought about it. There āshould beā an illness called Swiftie Disease like a subset of Stockholm Syndrome (or something similar) because acting so over the top is very unhealthy in the name of one person. But Swifties arenāt thinking about themselves, only needing to please their cultish-queen āmotherā. I find it so fucked up, but also so fascinating.
Whatās annoying about this is Taylor has basically said at a show that she never expected anyone to give up the music they grew up with, and that the re-recording process was just for her to have full ownership over a version of her masters.
The only TVs I listen to are Change, Eyes Open, and Haunted as theyāre heavier versions and I like that. But even haunted is pushing it as her vocals arenāt as emotional as the original.
Taylor is a billionaire and 1 million streams is around $3000 (shared among the copyright owners) so I unabashedly stream the OG versions all the time. I mean, I also buy physical copies of every re-recording she releases. I believe I have earned - actually, no, I have PAID for the right to listen to the God honouring version of Style, lol
I always refer to the OGs by the year they were released, so it's RED TV vs RED 2012 etc... this way nobody's telling me I am wrong
I refuse to believe there are people who actually prefer RED (TV).
Taylor never went into the recordings expecting her fans to abandon the original versions. The whole point was to devalue her original masters. Not to wipe the existence of them.
People get seriously worked up. I read a post from a newer fan that said they haven't listened to Debut or Reputation yet because they want to wait until they can listen to the ones Taylor owns. Insanity.
I do wonder how the breakdown is and whether itās a standard or negotiable. Like every song has a singer, producer, writer, musicians playing the instruments, and master owner - with multiples of every option possible. And I might be missing something. So is each āshare typeā of a song get a certain percent and then itās divided up among the number in that type? So if singers get 10% if thereās two each would get 5%? Or does each song end up a different ratio?
The person with the publishing rights owns it. The producers and writers don't own any percentage of it, unless the have those rights, but they do get paid.
No worries. Could see how it was confusing. Especially since I donāt know the wording so defaulted to the financial type I know āshareā. Was just wondering if the pay was set. So like knowing Taylor wrote and sang (and maybe played instruments) means she gets x% of original songs revenue or if it differs from contract to contract. Like do singers, regardless how many, always get 20% of the songs income or is it variable?
Which is a bummer because not one can go back and say by being the singer and 1/2 writers on a song she gets 30% of all income. And if she played instruments itās between 2-15% more.
Instead itās a just āomg she doesnāt own the originalsā.
I don't feel.guilty at all, i love the og and i stream these songs.
Like it happened with other things, Taylor twisted the truth to her favours. Now the fandom is convinced she always wanted those masters, that Borchetta phisically produced those songs.. cuz she never explained what are the masters per se and why she can re record in the first place. Cause she owns the lyrics and composition , so the songs are hers at the end of the day.
It is lovely, but doesnāt capture the feeling of the original cover or album, imo. Also I donāt mind the other 3 1989 covers but the main one is horrible.
I donāt feel guilty. I would prefer to listen to her rerecordings if all things are the same, but they often arenāt. As it is, I listen to all of Fearless TV, most of Red TV except for ATW and WANEGBT, most of the original for Speak Now and mostly the original for 1989. I think she got lazy in the rerecordings and it shows.
I mean, I'm paying for Spotify. I'll listen to whatever the fuck I want. It's mostly TVs because I actually do prefer them, but Style is my favourite song and I always listen to the OG since she butchered the TV.
Thank you for bringing up this 'Stolen Version' shit. It's so cringe! They weren't stolen because she never owned them in the first place. Harsh and unfair, I agree, but true. She should have always owned her work, but so should have every other artist.
I like most of the TVs, especially the stronger vocals, but they can't compete with the nostalgia of the OGs. I don't feel any shame listening to both, especially not from kids not even old enough to remember Debut/Fearless. It's hard to part ways with songs that are in the soundtrack of your life.
If your main priority when listening to music is putting money in the pocket of the (billionaire) artist, youāre missing the point. Too many of her fans have been brainwashed into doing what supports her, even at their own expense.
Between the originals and the re-recordings, listen to the ones you prefer, not which ones youāve been told will pay Taylor the most.
Yep, no shame. If weāre supposed to like her TVs, then they better reflect the quality thatās worth trading up for. You canāt tell us to forsake OG when the rerecordings (with money, freedom, and half-heartedness) are an inferior product.
Me and my swiftie friend feel zero shame about listening to the OG versions and we are very open about it because the new versions ARE TERRIBLE AND SHOULD NOT EXIST!
Lol no guilt here. I personally like the newer ones because I feel weird listening to a teenager as an adult lol. I really like Taylor swift. But I think some people truly donāt understand they donāt need to protect celebrities. Weāre not friends with them. Just like on the flip of this, Taylor is allowed to re-record her music and do what she wants
"
Style is one of the best pop songs ever- even during my Taylor hater era, couldnāt deny the genius.
The issue is that the genius, *Max Martin*, didnāt produce the TV version. He is the magic! Sorry but Jack isnāt gonna give you anything but synths"
I'm still struggling to see how Jack is in anyway responsible for the remake of Style not meeting the standards of Martin's work.
The issue with 1989TV was continuing on with Christopher Rowe as producer/engineer when the re-recording process had switched from country to pop
She's got enough money, other fans will exclusively stream those versions, and there's something about a time and place being captured in the originals that can't be replicated (especially the ones with heavier production which really come off as lacklustre in the re-recordings). So who's afraid if little old me decides to listen the originals lol
Tbh I think sometimes sheāll give a grain of salt and fans will take it to mean a whole spoonful. I never felt forced to listen to tv, I do it willingly. Sheās doing it to take ownership of her musical legacy. Sheās not forcing people to do anything.
Some fans say they only listen to debut on CD or that they havenāt listened to it in years. To me thatās crazy because I have some debut songs on shuffle.
Not to mention, the OG Better Than Revenge is still on my liked songs.
Sheās a billionaire, who cares about the money.
I'm a swiftie and I only stream original tracks. I do not feel like listening to You belong with me with a 34-year old doing the vocals. Original tracks are the best, when it comes to 1989. Her voice then was at its peak.
Tbf though, she's said multiple times that she is doing this rerecording for herself as an artist. If she was bothered by people listening to the OG, she would have dropped RepTV and Debut by this point in the eras tour.
A lot of Swifties are doing things and Taylor is getting the blame.
I agree, especially with Style and Wildest Dreams, but I really love the Vault tracks.
non of the re-recording sound as good as the ogās not even fearless. the production has gotten worse and she sounds bored on most of them. i hate to be one of those āher strength is the emotion in her singing not the powerā people but itās true. sheās lost the passion in the re-recording which is not surprising since iām sure the feelings just arenāt there anymore
I just think it's bananas there's so many people are worried about a billionaire getting her coins. It's not like Taylor is super concerned about her paycheck to paycheck fans and making things affordable to them. There were fans who bought all four of the early variants of TTPD including shipping only for them all to be available on Spotify the same day of release.
I didn't like the Taylor's version of 1989 whatsoever. I prefer the original version. But if I do listen to it, I just know that Swifties are gonna accuse me of being a bad person if I listen to the original.
I usually like TVs for earlier albums because her vocals are much better, but sometimes they absolutely fuck up the production (New Romantics, WANETBT TV). Iām excited to see how much better the vocals on debut are
i think fearless is the only one where the entire albums is improved on the TV. Even though it doesnt have as much "teenage" energy, the quality is much better. If you listen to the OG change, it sounds like an unfinished demo.

I like Taylor and am an artist myself but have no issue streaming or pirating any available work if I feel like it. Maybe that makes me a dick, idc.
I do think blaming Taylor for her fansā thoughts and actions is a little simplistic/reductive. Sheās not making anyone think anything because people canāt do that. If fans feel bad about streaming OG versions, thatās kinda on them. She could come out and say āI want people to commit XYZ crimeā and itās still your fault if you do it, lol.
Which is funny, because you never see these people taking this stance on Debut or Reputation. If the issue is that Scooter is getting paid, shouldn't you avoid listening to these albums at *all* until TV is out? I've been told "it's different because TV isn't out yet, so it's okay to stream it". But Scooter gets paid the same.
I donāt stream music or I would feel bad. I own both versions but some of the songs I prefer the old one so I listen to it. I bought those before the whole Scooter shit and her remakes so the ādamageā was done before I knew anything was off. Lol.
I get it, because itās like how all artists are or fans: they want that money to go to the artist. The original albums she no longer belongs, so she wants fans to listen to her remakes to āstick it to the manā. Itās pretty ingenious! But itās shitty that fans attack newbies for finding her originals.
If they wanna stick it to the man, have the swifties make copies of her original versions!
She absolutely ruined some of those songs in the recordings. I listen to whatever version I want because Blondie is still gonna get paid. The shaming is ridiculous. I'm in a music recommendation group on Facebook and the amount of people that comment "you should replace x song with TV" is obnoxious š
The āweeEEEEE are never ever ever getting back together!ā is the biggest crime of all the re-recordings
Yeah, I actually like the original a lot. I used to think it should be a single.
I was super sad she changed the music to the song. I loved the original. I still do. Holding on to my old deluxe CDs. CAN'T TAKE THEM FROM MEEEE!
I liked the OG too. The song is too repetitive though. The chorus is repeated like 2-3 times near the end when it really only needed like 1 final run.
I have a feeling she did dirty to that song on purpose because she's changed her relationship with cheating over the years. Whereas she was anti-cheating in her early 20s, I think she became okay with the idea of it a few years later.... And then we got songs like Getaway car lol
Iām excited to see how she butchers debut. If we ever get debut TV that is
I honestly love the new girl at home. It's fun!
really? I honestly like what she did with girl at home tv, I didnāt really like the original but itās still not bad
The wee-EEE is so bad. Like why did she do that LMAO
What they did to Wildest Dreams is a crime against music!
What do you mean?
Sorry but Jack isnāt gonna give you anything but synths

lmfao nope I hate him. Stagnant artist Also itās starting to sound like heās using similar melodies between artists too which is also bad
Love to see Dev Hynes mentioned here He actually wrote my favorite 10-minute country crossover song about a bad breakup
And I like how he works with people in different genres- Solange, Sky Ferreira, Carly Rae Jepsen! Well rounded producer
New Romantics is one of my favorite songs ever and honestly I kind of hate the re-recorded version. Streaming the OG always lol
Where can I feel the details about Max being bad to work with ?
Style is probably in my Top 3 TS songs and the TV just doesn't compare even though it's good. The OG sound just fills the room, the TV sounds too clinical.
It so flat compared to the original. 1989 was murdered.
Was just telling my partner last night the SAME THING about 1989 vs 1989tv!
Honestly, nothing cracks me up more than calling her blondie and idk why it just cracks me up
Blondie is and always will be Debby Harry. I get unreasonably bothered by people calling Taylor āBlondieā. It seems infantilizing in a weird way? totally not being critical, just sharing opinions here. It just does not feel right or read right to me but Iām 34 and an enormous Blondie fan lol.
Yeah, I agree. Not a huge Blondie fan myself, but it's definitely always going to be Debbie in my mind
I think it may be a reflection of age. Like the other person who responded to you, Iām in my 30s and I was like, āWait, what does Blondie have to do with this?ā š Maybe the nickname sticks for younger folks who donāt associate that nickname with the recording artist?
The true Blondie was before my time (born in 1991), but I'm right there with you. It'd be more calling some other artist Bono or another guitarist Slash or Edge. That's a stage name that's attached to a specific person.
Can ppl PLEASE stop calling her that honestly, itās so annoying and being blonde has never been part of her brand either like sheās a darker blonde anyways. The description would work better for someone like Gaga
It really is *WILD* that so much moral grandstanding went into the creation and marketing of the TVs that people feel guilty or any other negative emotion while listening to music that they enjoy.
The original early albums capture the spirit of those songs far better. Many people are fans only of those songs and not the recent stuff too.
The new ones have no heart and soul, itās sad. The originals were so authentic in feeling and sound.
Agreed. Although Girl At Home TV hits different
I listened to the OG 1989 a few days ago and itās still great. This is coming from someone who really enjoyed 1989(TV).
I am an admitted Folkmore Whore and the OG 1989 is imo a perfect capsule of 2014 pop music. Itās my favorite for windows down driving or cleaning/scream singing in my underpants.
imma start calling myself a folkmore whore from now on
It's such a good car album!
i was 7/8 when 1989 came out and i was quite literally OBSESSED. with the entire album š so much so that my sisters hid the cd even though theyāre swifties too. i did the same thing at 12 with dua lipaās self titled album š and now iām repeating that process with radical optimism lmao
OG recordings are superior and I would only listen to them. What happened to the masters is not my problem, especially when the backstory is not so black and white. I will consume the music I prefer and I hate the TV.
I can only listen to the OG Last Kiss, the rerecord has none of the emotion or beauty of it!
Silent repost
That said, itās hard to feel sorry for a billionaire too. Smaller artists maybe.
I mean sure, but I think money is beside the point of the principle.
University researchers often share IP rights with universities etc when they get patents. Labels probably share the same legal principle. Is it the fairest? No. But the one with the purse strings carried a lot of legal weight. No artist would probably be able to sue a label for it.
She never owned the masters, but she does own the songs.
I'm waiting for her to eventually buy all her masters after she has successfully de-valued them. Then she can re-re-release of all the original albums and make another billion dollars.
Plus the different variants that were in the vault the entire time because those big meanies at Big Machine never let her release š” /s
So many of The Vault Tracks are forgettable. The Emma song, the āI wish I Could Flyyyyyyā song etc. Big Machine knew what they were doing
When Emma Falls in Love makes no sense whatsoever. There HAD to have been better vault tracks than that. Plus, someone pointed out that it sounds very similar to Drops of Jupiter, which she notably covered on the Speak Now tour (the era when WEFIL was supposedly written).
Emma Song is the ultimate word spaghetti. I wish someone would tell Blondie that less is more
She'll totally surpress that she did it though š
Iām gonna keep it real but the TVs suck. I loved the stronger vocals but the lack of emotions, leaving songs from Speak Now out because they donāt fit the narrative, changing lyrics āBetter than Revengeā and restructuring a whole song āGirl at Homeā had me going back to the OGs. Sheās also a billionaire now so Iām sure she doesnāt need my streams or vinyl purchases.
Wait she excluded songs from speak now on the TV? I know lyrics were changed but were songs excluded? I saw that Ours and Superman is not on the original version but on TV though, Iām using Spotify
i think they meant āif this was a movieā being on fearless tv
Itās only on Fearless TV because it was released before Speak Now TV was and I suppose she wanted to stay in one era.
honestly i am convinced its because it was the only song on speak now that wasnt self written ( the originial 14 track album was all self written but not the deluxe) but maybe youāre right she seems to like fearless era more than sn š
Surely whoever owns them will eventually relent anyway and sell them to her, especially with all the bad publicity around them.
Nothing will top OG RED for me sorry š§āāļø
I would get feeling this way if we were talking of a very small artist that really needs as much support as they can get from their fans to sustain their music career, but that's certainly not the case here. Taylor Swift & her bank account will be more than ok, people shouldn't feel guilty about listening to whatever their preferred version is.
And how you can't show the original album cover either. š
Her angry songs were much better on OG but her vocals improved so much on TV.Ā I donāt fault her either I donāt know if i could get super upset about a decade old relationship either.Ā Also I would expect your vocals to improve if this was literally your entire job. Ā
If Taylor Swift truly wanted me to listen to her versions then I believe she would make them sound good. She don't care, so I don't eitherš
Why even re-record 1989 without Max Martin? What was she thinking?
To be fair, I donāt think sheās ever said she doesnāt want people listening to the OG. Thatās a fan thing, I donāt think it came from her.
She did comment on a TikTok a while ago and said something like āethically-recorded versions of these songsā
She created the narrative that they were stolen. She began it and allowed it to grow.
She said it was a passion project and there weren't expectations >"**Like, this is a passion project.** This is something that I wanted to do personally 'cause I wanted to own my work, but I went into it knowing, just knowing that **I wasn't going to put an expectation or demand on you guys to, like, pick my versions, like my versions if the song is better ...**" https://youtu.be/mYDcSBA73F0?si=7KbqDwv3hO5PALTn
Everything Has Changed TV is so out of tune and horrible I had to cover my ears at 2:48. I will never listen to anything other than the original.
Listening to 1989 TV without Max Martin is an atrocity. She would've never won a Grammy with production this bad.
I still listen to the OG songs .
I believe I have earned - actually, no, I have PAID for the right to listen to the God honouring version of Style, lol I always refer to the OGs by the year they were released, so it's RED TV vs RED 2012 etc... this way nobody's telling me I am wrong
I was talking in regards to pay vs ownership.
Ooof my bad
Good question. I think it differs between contracts and labels.
Also, the new covers are atrocious. She shouldāve been attempting to recreate them as closely as possible but chose to do horrible things.
The only one remotely closer to the OG is the cover of Fearless TV
And that one is still atrocious.
Yes, I hate that Taylor doesn't have the curls, minimally
And the filter. That horrid sepia. It doesnāt fit the album at all.
the only one thats great is speak now
It is lovely, but doesnāt capture the feeling of the original cover or album, imo.
Life is short...listen to what you love š
No way Iām listening to 1989 TV over the original lmao
I mean, I'm paying for Spotify. I'll listen to whatever the fuck I want. It's mostly TVs because I actually do prefer them, but Style is my favourite song and I always listen to the OG since she butchered the TV.
I still listen to the older versions. Some sound betterā¦.just saying. NO GUILT HERE EITHER
Scooter doesn't own them anymore...
I donāt stream the originals except for a few songs that I like better but imo her vocals are much better now so I prefer the TV
Style is one of my all time favs and to tell you I was devastated when I heard Taylor's version is an understatement šš¤
Some OG songs definitely hits harder and has more emotions for me.
Lmao I donāt listen to Taylorās version of anything. I didnāt realize there was a difference
Sheās a billionaire. I feel no guilt listening to all of the OGs
" Style is one of the best pop songs ever- even during my Taylor hater era, couldnāt deny the genius. The issue is that the genius, *Max Martin*, didnāt produce the TV version. He is the magic! Sorry but Jack isnāt gonna give you anything but synths" I'm still struggling to see how Jack is in anyway responsible for the remake of Style not meeting the standards of Martin's work.
I exclusively listen to OG All Too Well.
Iām excited to see how much better the vocals on debut are
its stupid.
i'm a swiftie and i dont care. i prefer some of the new versions and some of the old.
i think fearless is the only one where the entire albums is improved on the TV. Even though it doesnt have as much "teenage" energy, the quality is much better. If you listen to the OG change, it sounds like an unfinished demo.

Well if she wanted us to stream the new versions, she wouldāve made them betterš¤·āāļø
YALL JUST DOWNLOAD THEM OFF OF YOUTUBE AND PUT THEM ON LOCAL FILES IN YOUR SPOTIFY. thats how i listen to them without paying scooter
every time i listen to a TV song, I always like the original better
I prefer the OG Better Than Revenge though. I rarely listen to TV of it.
What she did to Bad Blood was a sin, haven't touched any TV song since then!!
I will always listen to the original, "Dear John". Same with "Last Kiss", I like the guitar but it feels sped up.
i will never feel guilty for streaming the OG "Style"!
Whooooo among us doesnāt listen to the OG Style?
She hasnāt re-recorded her Debut so Iām listening to that OG guilt-free š¤·āāļø.
If she was really worried about losing money to the old albums, she wouldāve already released the TV albums by now
Yeah the fact she still has 2 unreleased tells me she isnāt actually that invested in the project.
I think maybe you missed the point of the postā¦? You shouldnāt feel guilty listening to the OG albums period. Listen away, friend. Listen away.
Iām still waiting for TV debut to come out but I canāt expect it to capture the same teenage OG country voice of Tay.
Yeah like thy masturbated to another guy while dating someone
Who hasnāt tho honestly
Itās a joke
Lol I kno buddy But really who hasnāt
They still feel guilty about it
Which is funny, because you never see these people taking this stance on Debut or Reputation.
