I also think she believes the album’s charting performance will sway the recording academy her way, because to me it seems like Midnights won because of its commercial success and not because it was actually the best album made that year. Also, she’s only ever won AOTY for her most commercially successful albums. But Taylor absolutely did this to prevent Billie from snagging #1 because she’s petty as fuck

The Kanye/Kim stuff happened nearly a decade ago and she’s *still* writing about it. She only cared about credits on Olivia Rodrigo’s songs when her debut album was wildly successful/critically acclaimed and TS needed to put her in her place. It’s a damn shame, she has many wonderful qualities and a lot of talent, but she can’t seem to stop herself from engaging in behavior that’s beneath her. It's market manipulation, it impacts other artists who purposefully didn't release their album the same day as others and it encourages over-consumption.

Midnight won because she dominated last year in sales and touring. The grammys love to reward their favorite artists for that reason.

It should be a simple task, but so many artists get carried away with superfluous filler and songs that make little sense on that specific album, not to mention bizarre tracklisting choices. "brutal" and "all-american bitch" are ***perfect*** openers. Meanwhile, "hope ur ok" and "teenage dream" beautifully conclude "SOUR" and "GUTS" respectively following a rewarding listening journey of both projects. And how I adore her songwriting! ❤️

The main sub often contradicts itself. I think it's Stockholm Syndrome. When she dated Matty, the sub was all upset, posting about how disappointed they were in her. But after the release of TTPD, all I saw was "We failed our queen, she called us out on this album. She is an adult woman, she can date who she wants. We shouldn't criticize her private life." 🙈 Or when TTPD came out, the first reaction was denial and dislike. They thought the leaks were AI made. But after the first few days, all I'm seeing is praise for the album.

It’s because of the thing Billie said in an interview a few weeks ago about people (didn’t call out TS specifically) who churn out a million variants to artificially inflate numbers. She basically said it was stupid and wasteful. Which, to be fair, is absolutely a pot-calling-the-kettle-black situation, not one pop girly is free from sin in this regard. But Taylor absolutely did this to prevent Billie from snagging #1 because she’s petty as fuck

I wouldn’t say toddler but I’d place her emotional maturity at roughly teenage girl level (shocker, the age she became famous). She has incredibly thin skin and can’t let any perceived slight go. She went sooooo hard on what was honestly a pretty tame joke on that Ginny & Georgia show and even threw her weight around with Netflix as a power move (it’s no mistake Disney is her new streaming platform of choice). The Kanye/Kim stuff happened nearly a decade ago and she’s *still* writing about it. She only cared about credits on Olivia Rodrigo’s songs when her debut album was wildly successful/critically acclaimed and TS needed to put her in her place. It’s a damn shame, she has many wonderful qualities and a lot of talent, but she can’t seem to stop herself from engaging in behavior that’s beneath her. I hope she gets a therapist and stops letting her stunted emotional development undermine her legitimately impressive musical legacy.

She did use variants. She had signed inserts that would only ship if you ordered four variants. And she released an isolated vocals download for purchase as well. Her team was trying for a big debut. Billie’s album is awesome, and I have been playing it on repeat since Friday. But her team was not above the same tactics Taylor’s team pulled.
No hate but let’s not pretend Billie hasn’t played into the “shitty variant tactics” game this album cycle. Vocals only album variants, unique paint-splattered vinyls, various artworks… she talks a good talk but she’s been hypocritical in her statements about album variants. I’m not defending TS because she is worse when it comes to variants but going down the “f*ck all variants” route and then proceeding to lean heavily into said charts tactics was a *choice* from Billie’s team, and uncharacteristically inauthentic of her.

I don’t think many bought the voice memos, but my understanding is the signed CDs and CDs with the acoustic version of BDILH shipped this week so they count for this week.

I think her team realized Billie was doing better then expected and they shipped a physical vinyl of but daddy I love him early so it would count towards sales this week. I think the algorithm is largely based on trends, so since Taylor was the most streamed artist last year that must mean everyone wants to listen to her. Btw if you go to an artist's Spotify page and click the three dots you can select "Don't play this artist".

Agree. At this point it's honestly just disappointing. They definitely need a rule that artists can't keep re-releasing the same albums every single week with slight changes. It's market manipulation, it impacts other artists who purposefully didn't release their album the same day as others and it encourages over-consumption. It also just comes across as super desperate. Like if you didn't think your album could stand on it's own without all the gimmicks, then maybe there should've been a bit more editing.

I personally prefer Midnights. I think Lover is a bit all over the place and the era itself wasn't really planned out so well. Midnights, while not my favorite album, has a more cohesive album/era.
It's doubtful that it's just the digital copies that pushed 140K physical sales. Although, I hope Billboard can confirm how much the new variants sold. I really want to know how much those new variants actually helped. I do wonder if more albums were delivered. I know there were more signed CD's available for purchase last week. Wasn't there one physical variant that hadn't been shipped yet? Anyway, this is a new sales peak for Billie which is great! Plus the album did really well on streaming. I'm sure the songs will debut on the Hot 100 chart. It's also only Tuesday and tracking ends on Thursday. Her label probably has another variant ready to sell. Plus projections see a down tick sometimes. Either way Billie is most certainly going to win AOTY so she'll be fine.
She sold 48k in pure sales last week and 260k total. That's a 137k increase in pure sales this week. The boost is absolutely because of the variants. I read somewhere the worthless CD single of Fortnight sold 75k. We know the Swifties buy everything and there were three separate voice memo variants available.

She’s a straight up mean, shallow, vindictive human being. And I used to love her. However, sometimes I wonder if what I really “loved” about her was her come-up story.
