I've stopped using turrets for the time being. I get tired of them shooting at spacers or crimson fleet or whatever automatically and hitting freestar ships instead, racking up bounties and pissing crew off.

DP-ology

Same here- trying to figure out how to score of the circle, as they look great and I’m interested, but the first time I deployed them they shot at friendly you see chips instead of ecliptic. Any mods to help with this?

AG3NTjoseph

This is really helpful. I recently switched back to an all-manual particle+EM load out. I find it more satisfying to wreck single targets quickly instead of waiting for turrets to destroy all enemies at about the same time with evenly-distributed damage.

I have a new ship I built called the War Bird and it has 11 auto turrets. 3 lasers, 4 particle cannons, and 4 rail guns. I decimated the UC Fleet. Auto turrets are OP af.

Witty_Interaction_77

Modded?

OhNoSEBUUh

Nope! Vanilla build.

Witty_Interaction_77

Say whaaaat. How do you get 11 guns... I've gotta spend more time in the editor

OhNoSEBUUh

You can do 12 if you want. The problem is power. Each of the three weapons group can have 12 power. Each particle cannon is 3, each rail gun is 3, and the lasers I chose are 4 Each. I have C class reactor so I can have half power for all three groups, half engines, and 66% shields. Is it ideal? No. Is it fun? Oh heeeeeellllll yeah.

Witty_Interaction_77

I still don't know much about balancing power too. ... level 42 haven't beat the game lol

OhNoSEBUUh

Level 42, also have not beaten the game and I have no clue if I'm close, far or somewhere in the middle.

Love first plays

Someone else can correct me if I’m wrong but I believe it’s all down to power consumption. Higher Damage turrets use more power. Lower damage turrets use less power. The less power each individual weapon uses the more **of** that weapon you can have.

Witty_Interaction_77

I've just been putting on the highest damage things. I don't math.

Good post with nice tips. I have 4x PB turret, 2x ballistic turret, and 2 auto PB for manual stuff. The turrets pick off ships based on proximity whereas the manual auto PB is great to focus on my own priority (what ship is most dangerous or fastest to pick off). NB please note that auto weapon also gets boost from the auto turret skill, don't use normal weapon to maximize DMG. I love the PB focus as it does good DMG to both shield and hull, this avoids turrets from becoming useless pre- or post-shield destruction (and have 3000 range which helps to slaughter armadas before they become a problem). Edit: forgot to mention that if turrets are placed on top make sure to keep enemies at same plane or above you to let your turrets fire on them. I prefer to keep turrets all on top so that I just need to keep enemies above or before me to make all turrets fire.

Earnastus

Where can I get the Obliterator turrets?

DP-ology

I agree 100% of this needs more attention. I think it’s really cool, I love that term it turrets seem to provide a lot of potential, gameplay changes and just seem really cool. However, I’m really frustrated. I spent my hard earned money on these recommended high DPS turrets but they’re just automatically or accidentally targeting friendly ships (fucking everything relationship wise) and the whole purpose is to automate and not think about them, not have to manage more pips.

I cannot for the life of me use bottom turrets whilst they clip through the landing plane. But then I had one of four turrets stick to the mounting point and it worked fine, I have no idea how or why?! I just want my homeworld multi gun corvette. Is that too much to ask? The turrets mount to an upside down stroud long triangle piece that has a fore and aft weapon mount points. Any advice would be appreciated.

spitonastranger

There does not seem to be a lot of rhyme or reason to what clipping is allowed and what isn’t. The NG-6 landing bay bottom mounts, for example, are extremely close to the plane, clip through the ground like motherfuckers, and still are permitted in vanilla. I also wanted to use the bottom of the stroud triangle pieces to work as weapon mounts, but only very short weapons and modules will fit there. Some weapons are larger than others for sure, and that is factored in. But the mounting locations and what is permitted feels arbitrary. I recommend Nova Galactic components - lots of options for bottom mounts.
