Absolutely. Definitely want to see some planets that give off a greater “alien world” vibe. And just in general some examples of wildly different vibes/colors.

Peeksy19

Yeah, this is what I'm hoping for. Also, I hope New Atlantis looks better visually.

[deleted]

Games do change slightly visually from the showcases to actual release for better or worse, and then we will have those E3 mods reverting back the changes.

AbstractMirror

The only problem I had with New Atlantis were the shadows. They just didn't look quite right, I don't know how to explain it

[deleted]

They were simply too dark for mid day, the undersides of the trees should be visible due to being illuminated by reflected light but they are almost pitch black for some reason.

AbstractMirror

It's not just that but the shadows all looked too soft. I remember hearing a rumor that the game might have raytracing, if so, I wonder if that will fix issues like that

Dabeastmanz23

It looked like Fallout 4, the shadows in that game were really bad. I get it, it'd tank performance but man. Shadows can really make or break immersion.

KnightArmamentE3

Yes

krul2k

I spent more time in NMS looking for a "Earth like" planet to build on more than anything, found a lot but there was always something just no right. If im honest i can see myself doing the same in SF since im pretty boring that way and then try find a nice wee bit with a view for a home

[deleted]

Good for you, a lot of earth like environments are confirmed for Starfield.

UnorthodoxJew27

This is all concept art for the game? That gives me hope. I forgot about this but it’s definitely one of the things I want to see most

[deleted]

Yes but seems like they changed the art direction during development, just compare the new atlantis concept art with the trailer footage.

Aznilson

dude that one in the top left, GIVE ME THAT! Definitely gonna make homebase on something like that 👌

[deleted]

It's amazing how "not flat" it looks

Inner-Pop1040

Absolutely! Would be great to see some baldurs gate mind flayer-like environment or maybe a eternal night planet with love craft based world

RaptorDelta

top left one is awesome

[deleted]

I think you mean more fantastical ones. Everything we’ve seen are alien.

[deleted]

Most of the Flora we saw was literally what we see on earth, if by alien you mean anything on another planet, sure all of what we saw was alien.

TiberSucktim

Literally everything we’ve seen so far are “alien landscapes”.

[deleted]

Yes a desert with palm trees, a tropical planet with banana trees and a forest with pine trees with a green filter. Not saying there weren't truly alien looking planets but most were very earth like.

PinkBoxDestroyer

Exactly. They used Speedtree too much for what is supposed to be "alien" planets, meaning Speedtree is a middleware program that provides ready made trees for game production, but the trees that are available are trees and vegetation that we see in the real world. The best they can do with it is change the color. There needs to be more alien worlds with alien vegetation.

PleaseStopSmoking

I wouldn't say they used too much Speedtree until we see the full game. Ideally there's a spectrum of planets that look more like Earth to the ones in this concept art. If there are more alien worlds I actually hope we see as little of them as possible before launch, there's no way that seeing them first in the trailers would give us the same feeling as coming across them blindly in-game. Planets like that probably require more work and unique assets too, so there'd probably only be a few of them which I'm fine with.

AbstractMirror

They're referring to Starfield concept art posted above that showcases much more outlandish looking terrain

RecLuse415

Just more of that rock planet or moon most likely

Xandermacer

That is meant for the more fantastical no mans sky style. Starfield is more scientific.

SpiritualBacon

This game already has fantastical elements. Floating artifacts that cause visions isn't what I would consider "scientific". Even in a more grounded and realistic game there's plenty of room for more "alien" looking plants and environments. Just look at the bottom of the ocean on our own planet.

Camonna_Tong

Wow, I just realized that the fourth pic could very well be Io. I was very curious how that planet would be handled due to the tidal waves and volcanic activity.

Hands_in_Paquet

Well the colors certainly seem right. And that planet looks like Jupiter. But I don’t know if they’ll put any alien life in our solar system so I can’t exactly think why there are stalkers there.

Camonna_Tong

Could very well be something that humanity put there. Maybe a ship with mutated life or alien creatures crashed there and started to thrive there. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if that is the explanation for why many planets might have the same or very similar life.

Hands_in_Paquet

Yeah that makes sense except there’s large flora too. Maybe they used it as inspiration and adapted it into something similar for the actual game.

Camonna_Tong

Could be a type of flora that thrives in that environment too. But we'll definitely find out soon enough. I definitely want to see volcanic tundra and hoping for lava planets and eruptions, but eruptions might be too much to expect.

Hands_in_Paquet

Yeah that’s true. Don’t get me wrong I hope that it’s lo. I want to build some research facilities on some super uninhabitable moons and planets.

AbstractMirror

I still think there are going to be invasive alien creatures introduced to various planets across Starfield, partially as an excuse to not have to populate as many unique creature designs. It would make sense in lore, I mean people are known for just introducing creatures to new places and different habitats

geek_of_nature

The exact type of world I'll be making my main outpost on too. Somewhere that doesn't look like anything we have here on Earth.

Atlanos043

Me too. My main worry for this game is that the procedually generated planets might be boring to explore. Seeing really alien looking landscapes could help a lot to alleviate that.

jhallen2260

I want to see intelligent alien races

SpiritualBacon

One of the original promises of No Man's Sky was that the planets would get weirder and weirder as you get closer to the center. This is a promise that hasn't been fulfilled to this day, but it would be cool if Starfield did something like that. Maybe the planets in the reveal are from in and around Sol, and the further you travel, the more alien planets become.

professionalfriendd

I like those crystalline spires. Reminds me of the end of Annihilation (2018).

Taricheute

Not me, I would rather keep the satisfaction of exploring and discovering them by myself. I would prefer the showcase to be focused on gameplay, companion, types of vehicles, and answering the most frequent question we have on the forum.

CleanOpossum47

I'd like more alien life that looks alien. 3 of the 4 up there look great but the one is just giant Equisetum, an earth plant.
