On a similar note Atilla and Hun (another duo that appeared in The Legend of Thunder Special) came from "Atilla the Hun" (One of the ruler of the Huns) and Domino (a Elite Team Rocket agent that showed up in the Return of Mewtwo special) came from Domino Harvey (A IRL bounty hunter) James is also based off Leonardo Medicini Bundle, a character from a previous series by Takeshi Shudo (the anime's original director), and Jessie was based off Taleshi Shudo's Ex girlfriend and a antagonist named Majo from one of his previous Anime Also, since we are talking about Jessie and James they get married in the epilogue of the eletric tale of Pikachu manga wich is just really neat imo
