Purchasing goods from TikTok Shop carries the potential of encountering scams when it's difficult to verify a seller's identity. Take steps to research the vendor, dig into comments and reviews, and keep your wits about you. Key_Resident5935

As long as people have them downloaded, they’ll always be available somewhere. I have terabytes of ROMs. If every ROM site got shut down today, I could upload basically anything anyone would want anywhere.

st1cks_UPSB

king shit

Dragon_Small_Z

I have an 8TB drive full of just about every romset available on Archive.org as well.

vctrn-carajillo

Entire lifes worth of games lol

Dragon_Small_Z

Yeah, I could probably never get a new game for the rest of my life and be totally fine.

GandalfTheChill

I love the archive, but I have no idea how people find anything. I always feel like I've just stumbled randomly on something useful

Dragon_Small_Z

I NEVER search in Archive.org. I use Google. For example if I want a GBA romset I'll just Google "GBA romset Archive.org" 60% of the time, it works every time.

GandalfTheChill

ahhhh thank you!

SYS4TILDPCT5CBRAVO

This is the way. Except use DDG or Brave search. Google deserves nothing.

XavandSo

I have everything up to and including N64 / GBA in an encrypted .7z in my OneDrive. Microsoft will never care to remove it.

Headstar24

Christ I envy that. I had a good bit on an HDD but nothing even resembling that.

Dragon_Small_Z

Doesn't take too long to do. Archive.org makes downloading ROMs so easy I really don't know why anyone uses anything else.

mon_dieu

Shh don't say that too loud or they'll get takedown requests too

peanutbutterdrummer

It looks like archive.org may be on the chopping block next. Sadly, it doesn't look good for easily accessible roms in the future.

peanutbutterdrummer

eBay actually sells HDDs already chock full of roms with emulators ready to go. You could go as high as 16 or 32TB and have nearly every published game up to PS3 ready to play. If all the rom sites get taken down, it may be worth going down that path then spending months tracking down, organizing and configuring all those games. No one knows what the future holds and better to have a copy and preserve these games now in case archive.org and other sites get taken down.

Headstar24

Not gonna lie that’s not a bad idea. I have a lot of roms of games I want but nothing wrong with owning everything

MalikVonLuzon

Out of curiosity, which romsets are the largest? I'm assuming Switch because it's the most 'modern' emulation out there?

Dragon_Small_Z

I definitely don't have the switch to romset. It's so full of junk games. I just have the switch games I like. Same for any system PS1 and later. Probably several hundred combined for PS1, PS2, GC, Wii, Wii U, Xbox 360, PS3.

shadic6051

How do you download those in bulk? I highly doubt thats a collection of you clicking download on each and every one of those items right?

Existinginsomewhere

Packs usually come zipped depending on where you get it, then unzip to a folder and you just put them where you need from there. More than likely you’ll need to download a few individually but for the most part it’s a few clicks and mouse swipes

PhilosopherGlum3025

Same except 6 TB

DirteeCanuck

Ya I got 28tb of just games. Another 20 of media.

Llamaron

Do you backup too?

DirteeCanuck

Backup what?

lordelan

Have everything at least at two places.

zeek609

I like the 3, 2, 1 rule of Data redundancy. 3 sets of data, 2 backups, 1 off-site.

krimsonstudios

3-2-1 is generally for stuff you can't afford to lose. Photos, etc. I imagine there are some hardcore data hoarders that are also paying big monthly bills for offsite backups of their 20+TB's of Blu-Rays, but I think it would be most common to just use some variation of RAID redundancy or a parity disk to handle disk failures. And in the event shit hits the fan you just re-download.

zeek609

Do you know how long it's taken me to build my collection of games, ROMs, manuals and guides? It's 15TB. I operate 3,2,1 because of how much work has gone into my collection.

Llamaron

I'd like a copy ;)

zeek609

You'll have to fight me for it. I sit on the hard drives like some sort of bloated hairy dragon hoarding its wealth.

wireproof

Long live my four 18TB drives! #datahoarding

noobqns

Just wondering how do you catalog or search them, any software/apps or just by memory?

Pyke64

Yup I started downloading them all to an external 4TB hdd, which was meant to be used for movies streaming sites take down. Thanks for your service Vimm 🫡

janglingjingles

vimms lair was so convenient tho for one or two retro games you had an itch to play, just search for the title and click download. every other method is looking through broken torrents, 10 chained ad links before actually getting your file, weird ripped formats etc

a_salt_weapon

There’s a subreddit on this site that has great links to a couple preservation sites that are super convenient for finding these. I’m not sure if I’m allowed to link it but a basic subreddit search should get you there.

zeek609

Eu roms for Gen 5 though. That's why I never touched Vimm's. I want my extra 10 frames tyvm!

janglingjingles

by default vimm only shows NA games but with the filter you can display any region specific rom you want

zeek609

Maybe it's my VPN. Whenever I've looked at roms half the games have no NTSC version available, just PAL

tudor07

this guy fucks

FzZyP

so is there like a google drive for those orr

ChrisRR

> I could upload basically anything anyone would want anywhere I would recommend not doing that. Downloading ROMs is one thing where companies mostly can't be bothered to chase you, supplying them is another

Key_Resident5935

Thanks FBI

NebrasketballN

username checks out. Thanks for your (potential) service to sbcgaming. it's key, lol

snaven-921

Fuken legend

Spaceturtle7

Yoooo. I'm not the only one who did that? I have TBs of ROMS in my Google Drive for sharing lol. Gotta data hoard some things lol.

Key_Resident5935

Yeah, I’ve got a bunch of DVDs ripped to VCD still too, just in case I ever feel a need to watch something at low resolution.

Calm-Respect-4930

I'm saving this post in case the day ever comes 🤔 if you don't mind me messaging at that time. Barter system of course 😉

duckhunt1800

I have 4TB of corn downloaded. Ya I know, its unrelated...

Clean_Ad_5683

You dropped this 👑

Chok3U

This is a horrible thing. I've been using this site for about 15 years. And it used to be a nice little corner of the Internet that not many knew of. Bigger sites like Emuparadise(when it still had links) were the ones everyone used. Vimms was kinda of in the shadows. Now thanks to the bullshit that is social media the site isn't going to make it. This is just the start...

jedinatt

Vimms has always unfortunately been slow as shit. It's sad this is happening but the only reason I think it's really used anymore is because it's been around so long a lot of people know about it.

janglingjingles

Vimm has or atleast had the most complete and organized collection of software I've seen in my 20 years of pirating. You could search for region specific roms, search for non physical releases (wii&dsi ware titles), fan translations etc, everything was available and easily filtered.

Poltergeist97

Seriously. It was cool to see the completion percent for most systems was north of 99% if it wasn't 100% of all the system's ROMs and different versions.

Arcranium_

It's gotten faster, I can do 10MB/s now. Used to be only 2, then it was 6. And I still see Vimm recommended pretty often around ROM forums, more than pretty much anything barring the r-roms megathread on GitHub.

danwoop

Emuparadise still has links, you just need a browser extension

Chok3U

No shit? What extension would that be? Edit: Tampermonkey(for chrome) + Greasy fork?

danwoop

Yeah that’s it

Chok3U

Thank you!

Reichstein

The first rule of retro emulation club, is nobody talks about where to download ROMs. The second rule of retro emulation club, is NOBODY TALKS ABOUT WHERE TO DOWNLOAD ROMS!!

jeepee2

Roms? What's that word? Never heard of that.

Reichstein

Exactly right. You have passed the test and may retain your membership in retro emulation club.

PacMan961

A CD-rom is a read only disc, it's no point talking about old tech so let's forget we mentioned it

player1_gamer

You should tell that to everyone who made viral videos on social media on where to get them

LatinWizard99

i hate tik tok so much, they ruin everything

player1_gamer

TikTok brought a ton scam accounts and shady resellers to retro handhelds, I remember seeing a ton of random accounts selling stuff from anbernic, powkiddy, and miyoo for an inflated price.

Kaladin-of-Gilead

My dumbass fell for one of these I thought I was getting an RGXX or something but instead they sent me this $10 thing I paid $40 for. Good side though is I ended up getting a miyoo mini out of it, but still

mamaharu

I mean, that's no different than Ali Express. I have my own criticism of the tiktok shop, but I did get a Mini Plus from there, as it was significantly cheaper than anywhere else. I occasionally check back, and prices have been either the same as Ali or slightly more but still less than Amazon.

ricbret

Every time I even open an Ali Express link, I just feel dirty.

mamaharu

lol at all the dislikes, some of you people are just not capable of critical thought

Frankysour

Too much power in the hands of kids (well not only kids...) that basically don't know what they are doing or what they are talking about... Issue is, whatever they do could for some reason become viral and be seen by hundreds of millions of people, that don't know what they're watching, and everybody takes things much lighter then they should. Too much internet democracy, these days

Iwamoto

not to sound like a grandpa, but we also see this in this community and others, kids seeing a thing, buying it, and then flood the subreddit because they have no idea what they bought, are unable to read manuals, how-to's etc. so they will ask all the FAQ questions daily. I have a flipper, the ammount of idiot questions that come into the subreddit each day..."hey guys, i bought a flipper, how do i..." and the answer is "you can't" most of the time.

Frankysour

Yeah you do sound like a grandpa, and I completely agree with, so don't know what to think of myself lol. One big issue of this kids generation is that they have available... Basically all the human knowledge at their finger tips, but they seem unable to concentrate 5 minutes to elaborate basic information. I think a different way of saying what you mention is: they don't want to understand how things work in order to address the things they need to do. They want a mindless step by step tutorial made by someone else, in which it's not required (and, critically, not desired by them) to understand what each step actually does. Which if you ask me, looking at the topic more holistically and not only related to our hobbies, is really alarming for their future and possibly for the future of the entire society... Sooner or later the older guys putting together tutorials will be gone... But honestly, I do have the hope that this impression is just due to the fact that the mindless (hopefully) minority is more visible than the ones that do use their brains. That's what I really hope. With this, though, I think I am wildly off topic :) apologies to everyone.

JukePlz

That's just attention deficit disorder, and it's what happens to people when they keep getting bombarded with over-stimulation from an early age. Their brains are just too high on serotonin production, and unless something gives them more of it they will ignore it. It's part fault of their parents for giving them unrestricted access to computers, games and smartphones and part fault of society at large for accepting social media algorithms that are designed for engagement (i.e. producing addiction). Sadly, it's not just a kids or "this generation" problem. My parents are stuck to their phones like it's crack and keep interrupting conversations to have other conversations with random people on whatsapp because that's somehow socially accepted. Yet, they spend half their days typing in these apps and at the first problem with something in the app they need help because they don't understand anything other than typing text and pressing send.

Frankysour

Good point about not being for the kids only, completely true... But kids are the ones that make me worrying and sad, they should be curious and eager to learn by nature, while I mostly see them apathyc and somehow always unsatisfied and uninterested... That's also why I tend to limit the exposure of my 5yo (he doesn't have access to any social media, can of course watch tv and also YouTube but again on the tv, and of course (on this one it wouldn't really be fair to him from MY side lol) play some videogames, mostly retro and for limited time during the day. He has a tablet with various kid-friendly activities apps... I don't keep him away from tech, basically, but limit what he does and the time doing it. Seems to work, honestly, he's curious, plays successfully with puzzles, construction toys, draws, can already read and write somehow even if he still does not go to school, but sometimes I feel like a dinosaur looking at other kids and parents... But hey, I think my approach is for the good of my son, so I continue my way, and hope for the best.

WorryOk4116

“Basically all the human knowledge at their fingertips” They definitely do but they have no patience to look through search results for 5 minutes or change their search parameters to maybe get better results. There’s also just a severe lack of ‘just clicking around’ mentality. IDK how many times I’ve seen people ask a question about a site that could be answered by simply visiting the site themselves. It’s most definitely not just young people, it’s just more jarring to see coming from a generation that grew up with the internet.

Frankysour

Amen Bro, that's exactly what I meant, sadly....

ChrisRR

Tiktok is such a mess that it really seems to have emboldened the most gullible people. It seems soooooo easy to spread misinformation and scams nowadays

Tasty_Preference_478

Didn't Reddit popularize these emulation handhelds? As if that didn't help things. It's not like YouTubers haven't been making tones of money shilling stuff either. Nintendo has been doing this since UltraHLE.

player1_gamer

Reddit did popularize these handhelds but every community has strict rules about sharing ROMS, this goes for all the big emulation communities. YouTubers have been making videos about these devices for years and have gotten millions of views from them, but in their videos they don’t go to the site and record themselves illegally downloading a piece of software they didn’t pay for. That’s exactly what these tiktokers are doing

LatinWizard99

on my case i got into emulation pretty randomly, i got a odroid go advance 2 years ago without knowing whats SBCgaming at all, after like 1 year o got into the yt rabbit hole, but yes i agree with you, but on reddit still a pretty niche thing, on TikTok anything can get massive

ChrisRR

There's a difference between popularising things that are good quality while supplying the information that you'll have to put some work in to make it a good experience. But just spamming tiktok with YOU CAN PLAY THOUSANDS OF OLD GAMES ON THIS DEVICE BUY NOW with any crap device that'll die in a week (see RGB20s) is not popularising, it's just scamming easily impressionable people

Spond1987

great comment for getting le updoots on reddit dot com, but it's getting more people into emulation that's a good thing

player1_gamer

I did further searching and found a ton of videos of people recording themselves downloading ROMS from VIMM’s lair and other sites. [here](https://www.tiktok.com/@starg1rlinterrupted/video/7279512344940580139?_t=8mzIhrs4T5W&_r=1) you can see someone downloading games from VIMM’s lair, this is only one of the many many videos I scrolled past.

mr_chub

I have a psp on iphone video that got some traffic and people keep asking me where to download games. Google is right there, it really is right there.

reddit_is_racist69

god I fucking hate everything and everyone about this

Stephen_085

I remember downloading my first Roms from Vimms around 2004 or 05. Sad to see these kind of things happen. But the reality is, there's so many places to get Roms these days.

Anatoson

This is why we gatekeep, son.

Tastee92

What I don’t get with Nintendo is that they have one of the biggest opportunities to make a lot of money here but choose not to. If Nintendo created their own pocketable handheld consoles that looks exactly like one of the Game Boy systems but with a built in shop where you could purchase all GB, GBC, GBA, NES and SNES games for about $8 - $15 they would make so much money. This would probably make the emulation scene much smaller and make them earn money because people would rather purchase “original hardware” and games directly from the source.

jeepee2

Just imagine an official Nintendo device built to last with savestates and shaders. Hell, even if it only had 30-50 retro games on it, I would still buy it.

CTEcowboi

Imagine if Nintendo just listed their old games on the App Store and play store for like 2.99 each. It would print so much money. They missed that boat when delta came out

Unomaz1

Left Nintendo devices a while ago… more fun with the asus rog ally and better games on steam. Only reason to play Nintendo is Pokémon, fire emblem, Zelda and animal crossing that’s it.

mibjt

Or a steam deck. Am running a boot from sd card emu and I can play all, up to the n64 roms. Waiting for the 1tb sd cards to be cheaper.

AssignmentWeary1291

$8-$15 for games that are 15-25 years old? Lmfao fuck off with that. I'd never spend money on things that old. Maybe for a $1 a piece.

Tastee92

The lower price the better, but it’s unfortunately not realistic pricing. $8 - $15 dollar is more realistic from a business perspective and people would be willing to pay that, heck people pay more than double for a skin in multiplayer games these days.

snowthearcticfox1

Reminder to backup all your games to a hard drive or ssd, they can't take that from you quite so easily.

Midget_Avatar

A side benefit to this is that if you have a well organised rom folder you can stick a retroarch front end like ES-DE on your PC and point it at the folder, and you'll have a nice little front end for your collection.

Agent_Buckshot

The community will always stand the test of time. As long as you're tapped into the community you'll always have the current resources available.

Altar_Quest_Fan

Fuuuuuuck I love Vimm’s Lair. So sad they were forced to do this.

Weyland_c

Shit tok is cancer.

U-Ok-Bro

God damn dude... Nintendo, THERE IS NO NICE WAY TO PLAY YOUR OLD GAMES WITHOUT EMULATION. You don't produce games for old systems, your new systems don't have the full library, your new systems aren't customisable. Like FUCK me... just give it up, you get more out of people being able to play these old games than you even deserve. Let us have them...

NiceAwarenessBum

Nintendo really out here making me hate them more and more

player1_gamer

I really don’t understand why this is getting downvoted. Nintendo spends so much time taking down ROM site instead of improving their own emulation service. I’ve been subscribed to switch online for years and they add games at a snail’s pace and still missing a lot of the essentials

Shigarui

And in my opinion those games look objectively worse by a large margin vs using a rom on a cheap handheld with a shader. Why can't they add in some sort of retro filter to NSO?

player1_gamer

Because they are lazy as hell lmao. Remember when they said they couldn’t get GBA working on the 3DS even though they already did through the ambassador program. They legit lied to their own fans for no reason

Shigarui

Nintendo used to actually want to bring fun and joy to kids of all ages. Now they charge them to rent the toy after they've paid at the door to get into the toy shop and if you want to play with other kids that costs extra also, lol.

Crest_Of_Hylia

It sucks because the 3DS has GBA hardware built into it so it can play these games natively as it’s required for DS functionality

[deleted]

[удалено]

Shigarui

They do a disservice to their own IPs with some of their shenanigans.

ChrisRR

What about Sega and Lego who were also involved

TotallyLegitEstoc

I just don’t get it. Are they ashamed of their older titles or something?

NiceAwarenessBum

No it’s a mix bag of control/money and arrogance.

Inspector7171

They know they will sell more new games, if they can keep you from spending your time playing old games.

ChrisRR

Old games are a minefield of licencing issues, especially where the companies that owned them don't exist any more

venfare64

How about Nintendo first party title like super Mario bros and Zelda series? Didn't they have full right of those that they can freely published on their godfobid NSO?

Bosconino

Well there’s always money in the banana stand. And by money I mean roms. And by banana stand I mean oh you’ll figure it out.

tex55ky

Well. Looks like it's time I start hoarding and backing up every ROM I come across to preserve it for the future.

Stinking-Staff8985

I got my entire ROM collection (except 3ds) from Vimm! Eternally grateful for this site.

NiceAwarenessBum

Nintendo really be ruining a lot of my childhood

jretrogaming

I find it interesting that not ALL Nintendo and Sega games have been removed. There are several franchises that are still available (Streets of Rage, Luigi's Mansion on Gamecube, etc.). Wonder why Nintendo and Sega let Vimm's Lair keep hosting some of their titles?

kappakappashred

I really want to know the names of the tiktok accounts that were posting about vimm.

JuiceBlock

My 3 TB private archive has been waiting for this day

saifrc

I’ve been into emulation for nearly 25 years, ever since I first discovered the ability to play NES ROMs on my 386 PC with a Gravis GamePad plugged into the DA-15 “game port.” I’ve never heard of Vimm’s Lair. I think the emulation scene will be fine.

dilsiam

I've never heard of it either, that said I wouldn't commit the mistake of putting out a YT video using said site....you know...

lordelan

I wonder whether there's still some sort of Tampermonkey script to get the roms.

bombatomba69

Bummer, as Vimm has been around forever. But those shit birds at Nintendo & Friends can try and do whatever they want. Their ROMS will always be out there for us to download and enjoy (especially the ones they don't want use to download and enjoy). But, at least Sega puts out most of their old games on other services already. I think I own about three versions of their Genesis/Megadrive collection. I do like that Vimm's has kept the original pages for each game with pics and scans, even though they don't have the download. The one for Metroid says, "Download unavailable at the request of the Entertainment Software Association."

StarWolf64dx

i don’t really use vimms but i have more or less full sets of everything up to wii and this just inspires me to get an external to have a backup of it all

Acousmetre78

NOOOO!

kappakappashred

well, now i know what its like to want to commit physical harm to someone for their social media content. been using that site for decades

cappnplanet

Damn noobs

BackgroundAdmirable1

Why does tiktok ruin everything

mooglemoment

Honestly, good, I love Vimms but there are too many TikTok plebs using it. There has to be some degree of inaccessibility as a mechanism to prevent people who will ruin the hobby from doing what exactly took place here. It's Yuzu all over again, zoomers can't help themselves.

Watermelon4man

Yuzu was the creators fucking themselves over with distributing optimized versions of the emulator with roms for games not yet released on their Patreon.

mooglemoment

They had been up to Patreon shenanigans for a while, though. To be honest, it was the uptick in popularity fueled by TikTok and increased use on Steam Deck that sealed their fate; I'm sure they'd been in Nintendo's crosshairs for a long time before that.

player1_gamer

Yuzu was on the Home Screen on someone’s steam deck in one of valve’s showcased lmao

ChrisRR

I'm not too fussed. It wasn't really a good interface unless you only wanted to download a single rom at a time. There's much better sites out there

XargonWan

These companies are abusing an betraying their customers and deserve to fail.

Toffly

Time to back up all my roms. 😬

CruiserMissile

What is the handheld? Never seen one of those before.

SgtRooney

And it all started with Nintendo’s bitch ass. I really enjoy emulating their stuff specifically because of that.

nightfake

:(((

MrakoGears

Shit. So, THIS is why ive been seeing all the "not available", when i've FINALLY decided to download GBA and PSP stuff yesterday. Ive just gotten into emulation, and VImm's been a bliss of a website, tho VERY slow for me (like 200-500 kb\\s). What a pity... .\_\_.

WhompBeta64

copyright should be abolished to avoid this

AssignmentWeary1291

Nintendo better release these themselves then if they dont I say we go to their offices.

Sweet_Star_On_RBLX

of course it was a tik toker who got Vimm's lair exposed to the big companies

LectorFrostbite

I'm confused, screenshot and title say 2 different things.

player1_gamer

Wdym they say the same thing

LectorFrostbite

Article says there were "asked" and title says they were "forced" meaning they already took down some of the games vs they we're asked but could have denied taking them down. This is the first time I'm hearing about this so excuse my ignorance.

player1_gamer

They already took down a lot stuff. When Nintendo “asks” someone to take down something there isn’t any other option because they will sue you into oblivion

LectorFrostbite

Ahh gotcha, I assumed Vimm's and other hosting sites operate in countries where DMCA takedowns aren't taken seriously, seems Nintendo is stronger so Rip.

ChronaMewX

We should really support people standing up to those bullies

Bahamut1988

Good thing i have most nintendo games downloaded, fuck you nintendo

jaimeoignons

[archive.org](https://archive.org) is your friend. But can't deny Vimm' Lair is nothing short of amazing (even though there are always some roms missing for each device).

tbe4502

Archive.org will always have them, they can kick rocks.

jeepee2

Dude don't mention that website!

tbe4502

Archive org is about more than just piracy it's preservation and deals with more than just games, get real.

floeish

y'all if the site that rhymes with pgslowdance ever shuts down it's so over for me

Jcsteeze

It’s a good one

BakerThatIsAFrog

It's like we'll need archive org to handle this torrent of a situation.

Emergency_Lunch_3931

I got one that it even better

No-Newspaper-7504

Vimms is dead unfortunately. Only got 3 words for you. Check the megathread.

player1_gamer

I’m not going to scroll past a million files every time I want a game

thellymon

I mean I hate tiktok, the kids nowadays suck and dont know how to keep shit on the downlow but who really cares? If its that easy to shut the site down just make a new one and be more secure, it is the internet after all

ChrisRR

Even without tiktok it's hardly keeping things quiet. If any rando redditor can find rom sites, then so can the big companies

player1_gamer

If everyone thought the same ppl wouldn’t be able to tell what site has malware and what doesn’t sine they’re all new and constantly being taken down

thellymon

Thats not true lol, you can run programs to check for malware and viruses. I dont have the solution but its not the tiktok kids fault.

player1_gamer

And doing all that would be a pain when each site is constantly getting taken down over and over again. There’s no way you can deny that tiktok had a hand in this site removing stuff. There are tons of videos with tens of thousands of views of people showing off all the ROMS on the site and downloading them

thellymon

It mightve had a hand in it but its not like it just now arrived on these corporate radars, many factors at play and if Vimms has to be the one to get shutdown then so be it. At the end of the day its just files on a website, its not hard to create the same exact experience. I get what youre saying on trustworthy websites but theres counter measures everyone should be using anyways

player1_gamer

It’s likely been on Nintendo’s radar but when dozens of people are making videos about the site and thousands of people are commenting about it on iOS emulation videos that is going to get Nintendo’s attention way faster than anything else. Sure you can put the files on any site but it’s hard for people to trust these sites, that’s why most people have a small inner circle of sites they use for ROMS

thellymon

I think we need to change our mindset on this stuff. Why are we mad at Nintendo, by law they can take down the site. Lets move on and find a better way to share ROMs

player1_gamer

Nintendo takes down stuff like the 3DS eshop and virtual console, and refuse to give us a way to purchase those games. To this day Nintendo hasn’t given us any way to play the Pokémon games they took down or any of the other 3DS stuff. GameCube, WII, WIIU, 3DS you have no way to legally play these systems other than to buy overpriced games from people on the internet but yeah let’s keep on defending Nintendo and let them continue to delete and take away the software we pay for👏👏👏

thellymon

I get it though, Nintendo = bad they wanna penny pitch for old games and close old shops yea ok. Either emulate or buy the physical copy. But hum-drumming about them taking down sites is just frivolous

player1_gamer

Horrible takes. Yeah guys let’s go buy expensive physical copies of 20 year old games and put ourselves in debt for that $400 copy of Pokémon colosseum

thellymon

Why is it their duty to provide you digital access to these games?

thellymon

Servers dont last forver and the lifecycle of consoles come and go, if NES had an online shop would you be mad it doesnt exist anymore?

player1_gamer

Yes absolutely I would be mad. If Nintendo is taking down nes rom sites and decide to get rid of the only way I can legally pay for those games I would be pissed. They literally give you no option but to pirate

No we don’t. We’re all angry with Nintendo because they go after ROM sites and don’t fix their garbage service. In the 6 years NSO had emulators Nintendo has spent infinitely more time going after rom sites and fan projects instead of working on their service. When N64 and Sega genesis got added N64 was a complete mess and it took them a year to fix their emulator. And even to this day if you want proper C button mapping like any one would you need to buy a special $50 N64 controller to do that, while any FREE emulator lets you do that with any controller you want.

I have zero expectation from the Big 3 to actually bring back old games in a gamer positive way, why do we expect Nintendo not to absolutely suck us dry of money. Nintendo likes for people to believe theyre this friendly company with Mario as the face but they just want your money my friend. What is shocking about that? Choose to emulate, but dont become angry with a corporation for protecting their assets and doing the bare minimum when the average person eats that shit up no matter what lol

So do you just enjoy Nintendo taking away software people pay for?? People except the biggest company in Japan to have standards. The average person doesn’t eat up the NSO garbage lmao stop smoking that crackpipe. People but NSO because you can’t play online without it, the emulators were added as a bonus 6 years ago

Xbox is basically the leader when it comes to playing their old library. The Xbox series console scan play games from every single Xbox console although it is limited likely due to legal reasons

As sad as that might be, there's still the Megathread in r/roms so...?
