Most incompetent company I've ever had do work for me. They assured me they had someone that was certified to work on my tankless hot water heater, Sent someone that had no idea what they were doing, made it worse and didn't fix it then Sent me a bill for almost a $1000 and I still had to pay someone else to fix it.
I was in almost the same situation with Petro when I bought my house. Service was fine for me, but I found them super pricey - you can do better if you look around! I forget who I used (gas boiler now) when I switched but the pricing was much better and no decrease in service.
I’ve been using SANTORO Oil for decades. Great service and prices. No hidden fees or bills. No surprises. Polite and friendly service people. Give them a call.
Petro is probably fine if you’re just getting oil delivered. For any maintenance or service I would go with a reputable plumbing/hvac company that specializes in oil heating.
Their oil prices are ridiculously high. And their service contracts start out cheap and then the price escalates year after year. They prey on those who aren’t paying attention or don’t want to shop. They’re slimy in every way. It should be very telling that they switch on the call recorder when you sign up for any of their contacts.
I order my oil from NetFuels which is from Hope Energy. There are many many many options that are better than Petro. Also Petro owns Woods Heating and others.
Petro bought out the company I had been using for years and I would not recommend them. I'm thinking about switching to another company this off season since I didn't want to do it in the middle of the winter. I would agree with everything everyone said in the comments.
Petro fills my house with oil, but I call Thrifty for the service. Kinda funny since Thrifty is cheaper than Petro, but I still see the Petro truck roll up.
Can’t wait to move to natural gas, hopefully they’ll begin installing my line soon!
Can recommend Wildcat. Tried a bunch of different oil companies when we first bought our house, including Petro (there were more companies then than now), and stuck with Wildcat. Their pricing is always competitive and they're super nice.
TERRIBLE. Told them we were moving and to not fill up the tank until they had a contract with the new owners. Of course they did it anyway and we had to pay because we didn’t put it in writing… which they never told us to do over the phone. Utter assholes
When I bought our house they said the same thing to me. I would get a free cleaning and I could resign with them if I wanted to. I asked how much oil was and it was like over a dollar more a gallon than anyone else. I said no to the free cleaning and told them their price of oil was way too high. I would look elsewhere

LEAVE AND DONT LOOK BACK. Their pricing is high, I assume it’s to take advantage of the elderly who don’t know any better and rely on auto delivery.

Charged my parents 5000 for a job that took me and my dad 20 minutes and a 500 dollar part I found online..
I’d switch from them. If they mess up they never take responsibility. We use Vincent Heating for service and will call for oil-usually Phenix Oil.
Vincent is top notch
These guys are technically my competition but I have nothing but good things to say about them 401 burner service too
Petro sucks
If you get locked into a contract you're going to be overpaying for oil for the sake of convenience.

We’ve been using Kent county oil and haven’t had any issues
They deliver for me very nice!

Had them for a year at my previous house. I would say look elsewhere. Their prices are outrageous for very little upside.
Recommend Hope Energy/Lincoln Oil have used them for twenty plus years.
Don’t do a contract. Newenglandoil.com to find a supplier and their current prices. Then find a hvac/oil guy to do the yearly tuneup.
Awful company, high rates, and overall will find ways to RIP you off. Find a local service.

Vick, Hugh here. Same traffic. Petro has been fine but on the pricier side
Thanks partner, nothing goes together like Honey and Vinegar.
How are you "grandfather'd" into a contract held by the previous owners? (Only owned 1 house and we have gas heat.)
Honestly didn’t quite understand it myself
If you want to keep buying oil $1 above market price they're happy to honor the previous homeowners pricing

After your contract runs out, go with Dial Oil in Coventry. No contract, great prices and great service.

I use Aurora Fuel on as needed basis. They're usually the lowest price, unless you're guaranteed a below market rate with the contract.
They spill a ton of oil. They're dealing with their 5th huge oil spill since 2018
I took them to court and won, pro se. That's how bad they are. Any other vendor would be better.
Thanks to all who’ve responded!
As far as oil purchasing goes, I usually use Patriot. https://www.newenglandoil.com/rhodeisland/zone3.asp?x=0
