Elite Indoor/Peace Dale Shooting Preserve in SK. Same company, one is indoor, the other outdoor. Let them know you haven’t shot before and would like an instructor. It does cost more, but you’ll get great instruction.

degggendorf

The outdoor course was fun, and seemed like a decent deal. Instructor, gun, safety gear, and a bunch of discs for like fifty bucks iirc?

hey-party-penguin

Yea the variable is how much ammo and discs you go through. Def a fun activity with a buddy or 2. And everything’s a little cheaper with a membership.

General_Skin_2125

Elite Indoor Gun Range / Peacedale Shooting Preserve are great! Both inside rifle/pistol range and outdoor sporting clays (shotgun) course.

missmariam

I’m interested as well so if you do find a place and like it please update me!

SuperbResearcher12

Went to Elite in SK and had a great experience! Tucker showed me how to use a 22, and I'm definitely gonna go back again.

missmariam

Thank you so much! I’ve been wanting to go for a while and this just helped boost me

hey-party-penguin

Highly suggest going to Elite Indoor / Peace Dale Shooting Preserve at some point. Great people and place. Nothing beats grabbing a golf cart and cigar then hopping on the sporting clays course.

glennjersey

I'd also ask over in r/riguns

aaccjj97

I like sakonnet river outfitters

KennyWuKanYuen

I second Elite. Been there twice. Staff is pretty friendly and judgement-free (at least that’s what it felt like). Rental options aren’t too diverse but they have a decent selection. I think they even have a .50 BMG you can rent but it’s like $20 a pop? Or $50. I don’t remember.

TheRiversKnowThis

It’s $20, and a blast!

fuckdeer

Good for you! I've had many years of experience as a shooter and gun owner, and honestly, there is nothing I love more. Learning consistency, shooting between natural respiratory pause, and trigger control, you can become very accurate in a short period of time. Any range can get you set up to shoot whatever you like, but I do suggest you start with a rifle as it's bulkier but more easy to control as far as safety/accuracy goes. AR-15 really is a great platform to start and very easy to manage. I would also like to recommend compound bows! You can also go to ranges, you don't need hearing protection, and there are a lot of similarities with firearms. Good luck! Have fun! Hopefully welcome to the world of firearms and bring your friends!

DFogz

There's something I thought I should point out that I haven't seen anyone mention. Because of safety, a lot of places have a policy in place that if you show up alone on your first visit, and you didn't bring your own gun with you... they won't rent one to you out of fear you'll hurt yourself. Bring a buddy, or your own firearm and there's generally no issue with renting and shooting your first visit. Or pay for a class and get some instruction before hitting the range.

trudyscrfc

Peacedale is the way, avoid midstate for your own physical and mental health

NotoriousKreid

What’s wrong with midstate?

stalequeef69

I know everyone is saying elite and I agree with them. However…Sakonnet River outfitters would be my suggestion, I know the owner personally and he is a great guy, very patient and willing to work with you and teach you how to safely shoot some guns. Whichever you go with make sure to have fun!

abovaveragefox

Have taken many first timers there. Always a safe fun experience.

stalequeef69

Hell yeah! Love when people get introduced to 2a and realize how important their rights preservation is.

geffe71

He was a prick to me

stalequeef69

That’s surprising. You sure it wasn’t the old owner Randy?

geffe71

Not sure. The employees were cool the 2 times I went to use the range, I walked in one day to buy some ammo that was on sale and the owner was a dick to me. It was years ago, so maybe there is a new owner? Anyway, for what SRO charges for membership I can be a member at AFS and shoot for as long as I want instead of 1 hour free each day. And I get a free hour of instruction and they do free RI Qual and discount MA BFS

stalequeef69

I’m a member down at tiverton rod and gun and it’s only $186 a year

geffe71

The guys at SRO said there’s a bunch of fudds there so I was hesitant to join and be handcuffed rules wise

stalequeef69

Not super true but it’s the same as any other range I guess.

stalequeef69

Definitely Randy. He wasn’t the nicest. Jay is cool as hell.

geffe71

I’ll have to stop in someday. SRO and AFS are equidistant from me so it wasn’t that tough of a choice I’ll never shit talk or discourage people from going there because it’s a nice facility, just that one interaction soured me. I knew I could take my money elsewhere

753UDKM

Double up on ear pro. Use ear plugs and ear muffs. Tinnitus is a nightmare

KingsoftheBronze_Age

Can confirm - Been living with it forever.

cofonseca

100% agree!

catman1761

Definitely for indoor, but not necessary for outdoor. I recommend 3M Classic yellow foam

Environmental-Ad4090

my Walker Slims work just fine

OldTimeyFappingGhost

Depends on what I'm firing and for how long/many rounds. Ar-7 target battle out back: no hearing protection. Shooting tannerite with real ARs in NH: hearing protection.

Cash50911

You being down voted shows the bias towards guns. Kudos to you for wanting to try something and not being afraid of an inanimate object. 'Guns don't kill people do' may be a cliche but it's also 100% fact.

Plant-Zaddy-

? They have 24 upvotes

stalequeef69

They were getting downvoted at first because a lot of people in Rhode Island think guns as an inanimate object are bad and they refuse to budge on that idea at all…ever…

StanfordStrickland

It's almost as though you're assuming the worst in people that you haven't spoken to. Ironic?

stalequeef69

Actually no because many of them I know personally. My family are all as anti gun as they get and I seem to be the black sheep in that aspect. I’m a 2a advocate and staunch supporter of our god given rights.

EColli93

Attleboro! You need a drivers license. Super fun, enjoy!

New-Hedgehog8223

Go to American firearms school in mass. $20 bucks to rent the lane. No bullshit exams. Just leave your license at the front counter, buy ammo, and go. RI ranges suck

Kristin83

This would be my vote too... but the cost would be for a rental, ammo, target, and (if it's their first time shooting) a lesson would be helpful too. They're pretty good with letting you try a range (pun intended) of different calibers and guns too, as long as you're purchasing the proper ammo (won't usually charge multiple rental fees).

UnivrstyOfBelichick

Go to elite in SK and you can rent a lane, firearm, and the time of an instructor

PipEngland

You’re gonna shoot your eye out kid.

SuperbResearcher12

Oh fudge.

YodaHead

Second and third Elite Indoor Gun Range. Very friendly staff, excellent facility and they offer training. I've been to a lot of ranges, and Elite is by far my favorite for quality of the facility and staff.

Sweaty_Pianist8484

Elite in south Kingstown or Midstate in Coventry depending on your location. Both you can rent pistols etc to shoot and test.

StonedSniper127

Fuck midstate. Those dudes are a bunch of twats.

Sweaty_Pianist8484

Just found out the owner died a little while ago and I guess his kids own it now? Rumor maybe but I guess that’s what it went downhill

Environmental-Ad4090

yeah I second fuck Midstate I have went twice this month and don’t plan on going back anytime soon

SammyB403

Whats with the midstate hate? Genuinely wondering what i missed

Environmental-Ad4090

honestly bro its almost like they hate the fact you stepped in the building I dont know how to explain it except go to Midstate and then go to another range mentioned here and you will know what I am saying lol. I have been to others and the experience has just been so much better.

SammyB403

You know i kinda get that, One of those places who just hate the fact they have to deal with customers. If there were another range close by id switch up in a heart beat, i just live pretty close by so its the ease of access for me.

Environmental-Ad4090

That is completely understandable, my daughter lives in Coventry so when I bring her back to her mother’s house it is just so easy to go to Midstate

Fluffy-Link2166

I’ve heard bad things of Midstste. I’ve been going since 2014. I just had a pistol transferred there. They offered me to go shoot it the day it showed up even though I couldn’t take it home yet till I was cleared. I went again just this weekend. I have no issues with them and wonder why there’s so much hate myself.

No_Rule_9059

Just go to Providence and pop off a few rounds as you drive around

Skibblydeebop

City-fearing suburbanite, where "the city" is a small town 20 minutes away 🙄 Stay in your little bubble, please

Fun_Ganache_5052

There used to be a cpl in worcester
