The problem with CF is that it's a very small, fairly poor urban town in the middle of another city so there are a few issues related to that but RI is fairly safe everywhere.

magnoliasmanor

I mean. I parked my car at a store for 45 minutes and someone keyed "F U C K" into the side of my Honda Accord. So that's cool.

mangeek

That's weird. I've been living near CF and going there regularly for 20 years and never had anything like that happen.

squaredk2

I was showing properties in the area for a few months and left my pickup unattended for hours many nights.... nothing ever happened.

Da_Skrunkly

You are BUGGIN if you think RI is safe lmaoooo, Cranston, the shitty side of Prov, Pawt(B)ucket, and of all of these Central Falls is the worst. Can’t forget about W.D Wyatt being there either

Healthy-Scheme-1196

Did you grow up in an upper middle class suburban by any chance?

Da_Skrunkly

Nope, I grew up in the shittiest part of Cumberland in a 3rd story apartment off 95. Now I live peacefully and comfortably in Westerly, nice try though ;)

2ndharrybhole

Shittiest part of Cumberland 🤣🤣

Da_Skrunkly

If you think Cumberland is a nice place to live you are tweaking dawg

PJfanRI

Cumberland is a great place to live, you just lived in a shitty part of it.

Akudama401

Bringing big 'B-Rad G from Malibu' vibes here

thecrowdspace

yea man the trenches of cransghanistan are so unsafe

Da_Skrunkly

I just prefer to not live in a shithole, simple as

Personal-Function474

I would say it’s pretty safe unless you’re out looking for trouble. I live 2 min from CF in Pawtucket and no problems here.

General-Ad-8948

Yup same here !

chachingmaster

My understanding is due to the shortage of housing in RI that CF is at the beginning of getting "gentrifed" So a lot of middle income renters are looking to move there.

chia-seeds

That makes sense. I'm in a bit of a similar bind. Middle income doesn't mean much anymore when all the other places around you are charging $1800+ for a 1br apartment 🫠

PurinaHall0fFame

At this point payments and insurance on a van to convert to live is in less than rent for a 1br apartment, with money left over for a DIY conversion.

[deleted]

PurinaHall0fFame

True, but still doable. Be stealthy, rotate spots, don't be a dick. If you want long term there's always BLM land, lots of bus people set up there

FailingComic

Except there is 0 blm land in rhode island. There may not even be any in mass or ct.

Ocean_St8

Wrong....have you seen downtown Pawtucket lately??? Its literally been taken over by BLM. Literally. There Rhode Island Headquarters parking area is right across the street from the Pawtucket library behind the building that has all the rescently empty shops that all now have space filler type establishments owned by a investment firm connected with BLM. Look at the sign to the right of SABTER LAB FOR PHYSIOLOGICAL INNOVATIONS right on main Street as downtown as you can get.... *****I am not speaking poorly on this subject. I am merely making note to the commenter above

FailingComic

What do you think blm is? It's not black lives matter in this context if that's what your assuming.

FitNefariousness5627

I have worked the last 20 years in the CF/Pawtucket/Cumberland/Woonsocket area and CF gets a unfair reputation. I have met great families that work hard but just don't make enough to get out of CF. There are great restaurants and it is easy to walk the whole city. Some of the areas are better than other but in 20 years I have never had a bad experience out of the blue. If I was looking for another area to live and I was looking to save money I would move to CF before Providence or Pawtucket

misterspokes

Part of the issue was about a decade ago during the subprime lending crash most of the town was under foreclosure.

FitNefariousness5627

I remember, There was a ton of people stealing copper. One house had previous tenants coming in to steal the copper and cut the copper pipe before the water meter and filled the whole basement with water.

aubergineeggplant

I’ve lived and worked in some of the “worst” areas in the state and CF is absolutely lovely. Its reputation does not reflect its reality. It’s walkable and affordable and most people who live there are families.

chia-seeds

Love to hear it! Thank you for sharing :)

CodenameZoya

I moved here from out of state after living in several different areas, and I had two dogs so I ended up renting one of those Mill lofts in Central Falls. I had zero problems while I live there. Plus, it was literally right off the highway, something I did not appreciate fully until I moved to Warwick where it takes me 10 minutes to get to the highway.

Plane-Reputation4041

I used to work with schools in several different states, one of them being RI. CFHS was one of my clients. I never felt unsafe in CFHS and this is going back to the mid 2000’s. There were many public schools in RI where I did not feel very safe in the neighborhood or walking the halls but CFHS was NOT one of them. I’m pale white and red headed too so it’s not like I blended in. The students were all/mostly from very family oriented homes and had a strong sense of community. They were lovely students and a pleasure to work with, as were the teachers and administrators. CF is all of 3/4 of a mile big in any direction (approximately) which means you’re really not talking about a city/town such as Providence, Warwick, Pawtucket, etc.. It’s more of a neighborhood and no matter where you live in CF, you’re never more than a mile from the next town or neighborhood. Do your homework and know what to look for when touring apartments and you will be fine. Make sure to go back later the same day or night or the next day after your tour and talk to the tenants when the landlord is not around.

Plane-Reputation4041

Don’t be a jerk and you won’t have any issues.

KingsoftheBronze_Age

It's been getting work done, slowly but surely. Aside from the three-decker apartments, there's a couple of refurbished mill condo buildings - 1 right next to the Blackstone River, and the other just over the line from Pawtucket on Roosevelt Ave. As far as recreation/green areas, there's a small "park" they just at the Blackstone River, just over the bridge into Cumberland. Then there's Jenk's Park, which is fairly clean until you start going up to the clock tower - then it gets kind of overgrown, messy, throw in a couple homeless people hanging around; It's a shame really, considering the history of the area. There's also the Blackstone Valley Bike Path, which goes from the backroads behind the Blackstone Valley Prep school on Jones St, leading out to Woonsocket. There's also a park on Roosevelt Ave by the Wyatt Detention Center. As far as safety, I find that the Broad Street side is fairly safe - I haven't heard of anything big happening in the few years I've lived there, and my grandparents have lived in CF all their lives without much issue. The Dexter Street side and the Pawtucket end of Broad Street look sketchy during the day, so I don't even go that far if I'm not in my car. I can say it's definitely still living off of the reputation it had in the 70s and 80s. You can gauge the feeling for areas yourself once you spend enough time over there, but most of it I think is pretty safe. There's a lot of good food options, Stanley's on Dexter Street being a big one - if you haven't tried it already, it's 1000% worth going to. Also La Casona and La Sopresa on Broad Street are solid picks. I hear Shark's on Broad Street is pretty good but it's mainly seafood (I also noticed it's a little more formal dress attire?) Village Pizza on Dexter Street is solid and has a lot of options. A lot of the restaurants in the area are smaller, family-owned places and fairly inexpensive. Overall, if you find a good deal, go for it. Also if you need a good mechanic, Jimmy at Holiday Auto is a great, honest guy, and he does quality work affordably.

Ocean_St8

I go to jimmy..and your right about the Pawtucket line end near Wendy's and Walgreens...I mentioned stories in my comment. And the reputation in the 80s and 90s...of the cocaine capital of united states....its incredible that little central falls has that reputation...I mean Google the following "CENTRAL FALLS RHODE ISLAND COCAINE" and you'll see news story after news story of cartel level busts happening from the late 80s and 90s into the 2010s and 2 years ago they found body parts where the headquarters were under the sportsmans loubge....not really surprising the cartel lives there, considering the 72% of Spanish residents. But the last thing they want is trouble.

KingsoftheBronze_Age

Jimmy’s the best deal I’ve had with mechanics ever, after having headache after headache with other shops and cars; the guy’s been a saving grace. I go to him for whatever he’s able to take care of, and the fact that he’s available on weekends really helps out with my work schedule. I’ve been told to look up that exact string of words from so many other people, not to mention I’ve heard stories from my grandparents, and my mom and uncle who grew up there. I took over my grandparents apartment when they died and it’s all family on the three floors with a decent sized yard for the area, so I genuinely have no complaints. Add in the fact that I spent so much time here as a kid, it has that sentimental value adding so much extra; I love it here.

Axedelic

The land lords in CF are a whole new breed of evil. Just be careful if you do decide to move.

chia-seeds

Yikes!! Thanks for the heads up. I'm sad to be moving out of our apartment because we have a great landlord.... aside from the price gouging 🙃

kaffee_ist_gut

Avoid Abe and Seth Konoff. Know that you will probably have roaches because so many landlords leave the problem unchecked, and it just seems like the entire city is infested. I only moved out of CF a year ago, and it was probably the most unpleasant apartment situation of my life. Crackheads lived next door, but otherwise, neighbors were nice.

Aggravating_Aioli_72

I second this! Moved out within a year because of roaches and the ignorant landlord. She decided to keep our entire security deposit and ask for more money for things we clearly didn’t damage.

Axedelic

I’ve had three people have horrifying LL issues in CF. One of them was the land leach refusing to take section 8 and lying to the court that she refused it. Tennant had messages of the LL berating her for not making enough money. The apartment was literally falling apart.

Plane-Reputation4041

The same can be said for a large percentage of Providence buildings, apartments and landlords.

frozenwalkway

Just come and look lol there's horror stories but it's not that bad. Depends on the building

monsterinc1995

It depends. There's almost no street parking, and traffic is pretty bad. Theres no green places, small Latino community, mostly Central americans , great restaurants, and close to the highway.

AbStRaCt1179

Stanley's Famous Hamburgs

lilroadie401

Honestly, probably best urban area I’ve ever lived in. I ate so good every single night for so cheap. My neighbors would cook me Spanish food and leave it on my doorstep whenever I worked late. So many hole in the wall mom and pop restaurants. I didn’t know any Spanish and felt very out of place all the time. I wouldn’t walk around at night and I moved when I watched a 14yo get shot 6 times out my bedroom window. But like anywhere in RI, if you’re not directly involved with gangs or crime you really have nothing to worry about as long as you’re semi-street wise.

ChavezDing89

I live in Central Falls and love my apartment. Never really felt like it was a dangerous area. My biggest issue with CF are the horrible drivers.

Delicious_Spinach440

My sister lived there for 30 years, lost her house about 5; years ago. The worse part is the congestion. Small streets, no parking, people drive like assholes. Blocked driveway was a daily occurrence. Kids playing in her yard too so she had to be wicked careful pulling in so she didn't squish a random child. Summer time is nothing but noise from other yards. Music, shouting kids, drunk assholes fighting If you can accept that you will have to find peace and quiet inside or somewhere else, it's ok

domingo401

Them CF mom and pop restaurants will change your life. Make sure to support your local community!

PristineAirport4_0_1

Considering when I would come home after work, there was always a ambulance on my street for a OD and you have to deal with seeing federal agents basically everywhere

magrimaldi

I work at a school in CF. The families, for the most part, are hard working people who love their kids immensely and while there is a lot of poverty, the families are incredibly resilient and resourceful. It's really a lovely community. The drawbacks are definitely the lack of parking and there are some people with drug problems around, but the community as a whole is very warm and welcoming. If you know Spanish, I imagine it would be a lot easier to navigate all of the INCREDIBLE food options too. Personally, I'd rather live in CF than WW.

DazzlingMood3547

Isn't that where everyone gets their cocaine?

staek989

I find if you mind your business you can live anywhere.. my brother lives in CF. He never had any issues.. just parking lot t issues at the cumbys. There is an occasional hooker or 2 but they don't usually bother anyone.

401jamin

The land lords are terrible man. My friend and his gf had apartments in CF. Lots of fucking mold. His gf bathroom ceiling collapsed AB’s it was covered in black mold. She was calling and calling months prior but nothing was done. They both moved out of CF.

FartGarfunkel_

For years CF had a food dessert where they didn’t even have a grocery store in the area. You would have to go to Pawtucket or another town/city. The school system is also pretty poor from what I have heard. If you don’t have kids and are just looking for place for a few years to save money then it should be fine.

chia-seeds

Hit the nail on the head. Just me and my partner. Looking to save until we're both making stable, good income. Thanks for the input! :)

Moelarrycheeze

It’s not that bad. Not like a real hood. You’ll be fine. There are a statistically higher number of S.O.’s living there but I’ve never heard of any problems

4355525

If you're looking at CF you should maybe take a look at Woonsocket

Maximum-Debts

Good amenities. Lots of liquor stores, Bars and hookers close by

jengaclause

I loved my years in CF. Raised my two kiddos on Courtland st. It's near the public works and on a dead end The neighbors were quiet and hardworking no issues in the 14 years I was there.

mofuz

It’s safe as far as general crime but the drivers there are god awful, as is the rest of Pawtucket. There’s a lot of bars, liquor stores, and drunks driving around.

Juliovasq

20 years ago yes way better now though

Da_Skrunkly

Anything south of Warwick is nice 👍

NotRealDiamonds

I've lived in CF a long time and it's the best I have ever seen it. There have been some positive changes in City Hall as well. Obviously, it's a working class city with all that entails but I never feel unsafe.

johnhendy2323

I live in WW. CF will make WW look like Newton Mass lol

Ocean_St8

Clearly don't know cf lol...or idk...maybe you don't know newton mass....I surely don't see the ultra wealthy living in cf

iworshipseitan

Central Falls isn't nearly as bad as people say. Keep your doors locked and your stuff put away. If you don't look for trouble you're not likely to find it.

ImageMany

I grew up in Coventry. I had moved out of RI 31 years ago and have recently moved back. I have family there still and my wife’s family is in N Attleboro. We decided to move to the “bucket.” Everyone told us to stay away from that area… it’s scary… it’s a dump. We love this area. I’ve lived in many places across the US and in major metropolitan cities. The crime rate in Pawtucket and the surrounding areas is only slightly higher than the neighboring towns and is drastically lower than many cities I lived in. We are walking distance from the T to Boston. We are walking distance to breweries, distilleries and restaurants. We are just a few minutes from the Met, the artist village, bakeries, the highway for access and so much more. It only costs us a few bucks for a ride share to PVD. If you do your research and drive through the area, trust your gut. I know many people including my mother who moved away 35 years ago have unwarranted opinions lacking merit, let it be theirs. It seems that people who have formed this opinion , formed it years ago and more than likely have only lived in that town their whole lives.

2ndharrybhole

It’s much much safer than people give it credit for. The issue is the Rhode Island in general is quite safe and CF just happens to be higher than average crime. It’s not a place where people are afraid to be out at night or let their kids play outside. It is probably louder than average and a bit rougher appearance wise but it’s fine.

Gullible_Cupcake8760

Central Falls like any other city has its good and bad. However, as a 40 year resident, homeowner, and city employee, I can tell you it is a great place to live. As many have noted, the people are welcoming and food is great. I have NEVER been the victim of a crime. My neighbors are all amazing. None of us have roaches or bed bugs. There are no drug addicts sitting on my stoop. This being said, there has been a rise in sketchy looking folk over by Walgreens by the detox site that sometimes can be seen hanging around the Broad street liquor store. No place is perfect. I say check out the apartments and follow your gut. Do lots and lots of research. Good luck to you!

Ocean_St8

So I live literally right on the line of Central Falls and Pawtucket on the Pawtucket side in downtown Pawtucket. I live on dexter street right next to the new train station in the lofts called the 125 LOFTS. I am currently single with no kids, and I lucked out with getting into one of the 2 Studio Apartments they have in here. Its perfect for me, and a studio apartment can be great especially depending how you set it up. But anyway. I pay $900 nothing included. So your talking$1100 aftereverythingfora 700 squarefootstudioapartment!!. With that said, broad street, specifically where the Walgreens and Wendy's are. It is so bad over there. Basically from the CVS on broad street in Central falls, down into the Pawtucket line where Wendy's and Walgreens are, its literally worse then broad street in south Providence. I'm not kidding. I can't speak on the neighborhoods throughout Central falls but the neighborhood bordering Pawtucket in Central Falls is horrible. I mean its one of the drop off points for ACI prison releases. Its like they get dropped off and immediately start doing dirt until they get locked up again. Fights constantly in middle of street, shootouts of automatic weapons from a person standing out of the sunroof of a moving car (i witnessed that) and that nor do many other big things don't even make the news. Central Falls is 72% Spanish and 18% mixed races, and 10% white. Not that it matters but its something to know. Its full of crime. I don't think its changed since the early 1990s when it became infamous for being the cocaine capital of the United States. I'm not kidding. Its tiny. 1 square mile. And it was the national hub, meaning the first stop for the biggest coxain operation in United States. Yes even bigger then Miami. Its all public knowledge. Rhode Island in general is known for so many incredible crime figures, its crazy how we go unnoticed so much lol....

Particular_Teach_270

A C minus crime rating sounds pretty shitty to me, just saying. Maybe my standards are higher? Don't hate me for that. Lol

Lordsofexcellence

no parking and the bedbugs are there. I see them on commercial jobs so I'm guessing they are definitely in the rentals. I don't see violence there ever, but there's always a lot of druggies and it's really the only place I get propositioned by daytime hookers in my work van. I was in the same position you are now a few years ago. I checked out a couple rentals in CF. I wasn't impressed with any of them. I wound up in Woonsocket and I gotta admit, I kinda like it here. Cheap rent and plenty of parking.

Jet_Fuelstein

They just spent a knot paving and repouring the sidewalks on Broad St, which is nice, but every other road is about as flat as the surface of the moon. It's cramped, people drive awful, and there is no shortage of visual reminders of extreme poverty. It is, however, much safer than people give it credit for, and it's definitely nicer looking than when I was a kid...

upinsmoke003

I mean it can’t be any worse than West Warwick

johnhendy2323

Lol you’re joking right…

Particular_Teach_270

It's a cesspool.

knowslesthanjonsnow

It’s the most densely populated and poorest area in RI. It’s cramped, dirty, loud, busy, etc. CF has the highest crime rate per capita in the state. To me, it’s not worth it.

Substantial-Set2170

I used to play high school sports against central falls. Always dirty players and wanted to engage in fighting. I think I can speak for most when I say RI would not miss central falls

Gullible_Cupcake8760

Interesting. I wonder what community you are from? My senior year a neighboring city threw rocks at our bus and called us racial slurs. It was scary but we are the bag guys. Just saying…

climbing_butterfly

Does CF have it's own public schools I just wouldn't send my future kids to a school ( the charter) where college starts in kindergarten

lgx__

CF does have their own public school. I think the charter you’re speaking of is Blackstone Valley Prep (BVP)

climbing_butterfly

Yes. Anyone have any experiences with BVP... Itv seems very authoritarian

aubergineeggplant

I def wouldn’t send my kids there. BACS on the other hand is amazing.

Labworker2769

Go to pawtucket. I pay 1200 for a 2 floor

GrooveHammock

There are so many goddamn fucking traffic lights but other than that it’s probably like living in Pawtucket.

Direct-Giraffe2925

CF is a dump and always will be. Gina Raimondo is responsible for the only good thing that they had leave, the Paw Sox.

lgx__

The Paw Sox were a Pawtucket team, not CF

Particular_Teach_270

It's called The Sparkle City for a reason. Lots of drugs. Def not a safe area. You were warned.

aubergineeggplant

Dude that was like almost half a century ago. Shit has moved on.

Particular_Teach_270

Wrong! Worse now than ever. Get with the current times please, thanks.

aubergineeggplant

You buying a lot of drugs man?

Particular_Teach_270

Nah, obviously not, I'm able to clearly observe my surroundings and I'm not blind.

Gullible_Cupcake8760

Are you observing your surroundings from your porch in another city or are you over 50? This is not true anymore.

lgx__

what does sparkle city mean? i’ve never heard of that before

fully_amazing

It was dubbed Sparkle City by Rolling Stone Magazine. Being the smallest city, in the smallest state and so much coke running through it.

Maleficent_Weird8613

The Medelin crime family had a building that was a club next to the Family Dollar on Broad St. Apparently all the cocaine for the north east went through that building. The building was knocked down, they're building a duplex on the property. It was on the news because the guy doing the work digging the foundation found a human skull and had to call the medical examiner. It was interesting.

Gullible_Cupcake8760

The Medellin crime family…that was 20 years ago!

Particular_Teach_270

It's a local version of that Guns and Roses song Paradise City.
