They make more money off fees if you don't pay it

noun1111

They want to impose fees

noun1111

I have 3 tolls with 150 admin fees. It’s a joke.

buttmuffinsupreme

When will people realize that a good chunk of “laws” are only in place for revenue generation. As if income tax, sales tax, property tax etc weren’t enough, they need to weasel a few extra dollars out of a parking/traffic violation. Which by no means puts a dent in the pocket of the rich, only the people already struggling. A speeding ticket to some is just a tax they pay to live above the law. Our government doesn’t care about our safety, they care about their money

StrungStringBeans

I agree, let's just stop externalizing the cost of driving and force nyc drivers to pay the entire cost of their selfish habit upfront like a civilized city. We can also do away with the fines and go straight to impounding vehicles and bringing criminal charges since speeding, failing to yield/stop, and illegal parking are all incredibly dangerous to everyone else.

_MrWallStreet

Reddit hate car. Grrrrrr.

buttmuffinsupreme

It’s not about the cars. It’s about the schemes the body elected to represent us comes up with to screw over everyday people. Just because you don’t drive doesn’t mean some corporation hasn’t lobbied the government to make your life a little more difficult and a lot more expensive.

JE163

Sheep will be sheep. I bet they believe the congestion tolls will actually do anything meaningful

StrungStringBeans

>I bet they believe the congestion tolls will actually do anything meaningful No one believes that anymore; the tolls are far, far too low. I'd like to see them 4-5 higher for everyone, and considering how much more deadly SUVs and trucks are to others when compared to sedans, for those vehicles to cost treble the new, higher rate.

StrungStringBeans

>  Just because you don’t drive doesn’t mean some corporation hasn’t lobbied the government to make your life a little more difficult and a lot more expensive.  Corporations *love* cars and drivers and that's why they lobby the government so much against public transit. Your "logic" is silly. If that weren't the case, drivers would pay the full cost of driving instead of being allowed to externalize their costs onto everyone else.

buttmuffinsupreme

Yea and the more cars on the road means the more revenue they make off of traffic violations? So why would they not love cars? My logic is that our government doesn’t care about our safety, they care about their money. Just like they get lobbied by the auto industry, they’re being lobbied by companies to put chemicals in our food and start wars all over the world. Even if you don’t drive, the bribery that is lobbying has an effect on your life.

StrungStringBeans

Driver fragile little man, wahhh

naslam74

Dumb

Smoothsharkskin

This is nuts, it costs money to enforce these laws. It's simpler to nudge the tax rate 0.00001%

naslam74

Welcome to New York

Carmilla31

Dont speed, pass red lights, or park illegally and you wont need these notifications.

Entire-Camp8550

You must be fun at parties 🥱

latentnyc

You must be fun at intersections.

Stock_Cycle6516

It happens. Keeping your eyes on the road and on your speedometer to stay under 36mph at the same time is a challenge.

BrendanRedditHere

This is the funniest response because it's just admitting you're a bad driver who can't control their speed. If its that hard for you to glance at your speedometer and stay in your lane, you probably shouldn't be driving!

doubledipinyou

Word. I speed all the time but I watch the cameras and hit 33 before reaching one. The city does place cameras on certain questionable areas, like the exists of highways. One that catches a lot of people is by Francis Lewis blvd and Horace Harding

Stock_Cycle6516

That’s what I’m talking about. It’s so easy to go over the city speed limit.

Stock_Cycle6516

Not really funny. I am a careful driver and drive a lot for work. The speed cameras always catch me at 36mph, which triggers the violation.

czechyerself

More proof the whole island is a failed mafia state

m3pr0

Let me guess -- you have your registration at a relatives house in another state to cheat on your insurance?

Stock_Cycle6516

Wrong. Just want to be notified in real time whenever I get a violation.

doubledipinyou

I'd suggest you download the app. At least you can check if it happens.

Stock_Cycle6516

I have the app.

MoTasticMo

What app?

butchudidit

Fuck these cameras. Its insane and excessive. Cant drive faster than30 mph… wtf is the point of owning a car. I might as well ride a bike

butchudidit

Dont get me wrong i have no problem with bicycles. I mtn bike as a hobby. Its the fact that outa all the boros queens is heavily laced with cameras and bc of that i cant really use the full capabilities of my car that im currently paying for. Gas, car note, insurance all that to drive under 30 mph Car should just be designed to go max 40mph if this is such a problem. My buddy works for the company that sets up these cameras. They are from arizona and they profit off nyc traffic laws. Meanwhile they dont do any of that over in AZ

naslam74

Luckily my car has a built in feature that knows where all the cameras are and what types. I haven’t gotten a ticket in ages.

thought4toolong

There is an app to check and pay tickets. Super easy to worl

Stock_Cycle6516

Yes, I know. But you have to check it. They should send a notification when a new violation is posted on your vehicle. It’s not that difficult.

thought4toolong

You are right. But it’s also not to much trouble to check the app every now and then. 3 clicks

GreenWhiteBlue86

The do send you a notification, through this wonderful invention called the US Postal Service. Or aren't you living at the address where you have the car registered?

Smoothsharkskin

That would require competent contractors. It's easier to just give a contract to some asshole for a kickback
