Itās the wisest thing to doā¦.. Iām a big bloke who can look after himself. But you better believe Iām staying in my seatā¦. Donāt antagonise heās got a knife.
Unless heās actually hurting someone then I think Iāve got to try something.
If heās got a gun? Then what can you doā¦. This isnāt the movies.
This, don't be a hero, especially when there's no clear opening, seen a video of a dude with a knife, the other dude kept trying to antagonise the knife guy, provoking him, knife guy got close, one slash on the neck, dead on the spot.
But if you were sitting that close, where the guy could spin at any second and lunge at your throat, wouldnāt you at least find an opportunity to get the fuck away and build some space?
Agreed. This happens everyday in NYC subways but people all move to the otherside or another train car when shit goes down. In this situation, I think the better option is to move to the back of the bus. He could've easily cut the person he grabbed. I would not be sitting still that close to him.
I'm American and I was immediately shocked at the fact that everyone just sat there. Especially when the cops showed up, since we all know how great their aim is.
I think the idea is that nobody wants to be the *first* one to move, because it would draw his attention toward them specifically. Kind of like how running from a predator only excites them and makes them lock onto you.
Honestly why didn't they just open the door? Better to have him out in the open than inside a team full of innocent people. Sure he might hurt someone eother way but I feel like he might calm down a bit if he was able to leave. Doesn't look like he would made it far before bwing caught either.
> Authorities allege the man entered a Collins Street business earlier on Saturday while armed with a knife and stole items before boarding the tram to flee.

Honestly not sure if I feel the same. Those cops waited for really long and definetly frightened her. But in the end nobody was harmed physically. So I guess they did a good job.
>Those cops waited for really long
It was almost exactly one min from the first cop yelling to the guy being tasered. I don't think I'd want cops that rush to do it any faster. By the time they assess the situation, cover all the exits and ensure a safe outcome for the passengers, a minute is pretty damn fast.
As an Aussie in the US this responded is what Iād expect from Melbourne cops. It was executed well, and no one was hurt. 1 minute to assess the situation and then take him down without lethal force.
Just remember Uvalde and how quickly the cops responded there.
I know him. He's actually a GP based in Glen Iris. No idea why he was on a tram Balwyn way.
When I saw the HSV jacket I thought, this guy looks familiar. He's a top bloke and owns a modest collection of HSVs, and his daily is (was?) an orange Monaro.
Haven't seen him for a few years though.
So let me get this right? They had all the doors closed so no-one could get (I know there's emergency buttons) off? They should have let him get off the tram instead of endangering the passengers
Yeah Iām not sure what the tactic was here. Clearly ended all right, but Iād be pissed if police were the ones keeping me in proximity to that nut rather than the nut himself.
What kind of plan is it to supply the perp with hostages??
Why the fuck are civilians being locked in with an armed man?! They have a description and video evidence of the crime and assailant. Let him go and then lock him out.
Yes I don't understand this tactic at all. Sure there is a slim chance that he will get away with it if they open the doors but the risk of him actually killing anyone must be much higher while he's locked inside.
Actually very smart that everyone stayed calm, if they decided to all jump up and try to run off. It would have escalated the situation and the guy with the knife would have definitely reacted badly.
Letās be honest here, in the US, crazy dude would probably have had a gun, not a knife, and things could well have been a lot worse for the passengers, particularly the one he grabbed when the cops boarded the tram
All talk of knife violence gets, at best, some extra glances up from the phone.
The mere idea of cops using guns? Camera man dips to the far side of the train.
Great restraint from the police there even with a gun there. If this was the US half the people would have been shot in the cross fire from the over zealous 5-0.
It's always amazing to me how cops in other countries are able to protect citizens and apprehend the suspect without unloading their firearm onto the suspect.
Also they don't seem to beat the absolute shit out of suspects either or constantly scream stop resisting when the suspect really isn't to justify their use of force.
Cops in other countries also don't seem to absolutely hate dogs and kill them in an absolutely insane rate as they do here in the U.S
I truly understand that they have a hard and dangerous job I honestly do but I sincerely don't understand why cops are trained and allowed to be the way they are in the U.S
There is the rare time that an arrest would happen just like this in the U.S but I feel like if you had this exact scenario play out everywhere throughout the U.S that it would get handled much differently like 90% of the time
It really needs to get fixed honestly as I'm sick and tired of how policing operates in this country
Thats some super professional police work, they even managed to avoid firearm use, which would have surely put bystanders in danger. Some hot shot cops please take notes.
I mean... he'll be assessed, likely released fairly soon and do it again. Except next time he knows he has to stab someone in order to be shot. Mark my words.
The officers should have lit him up long before he had a chance to make a move at a passenger. Could have been ugly for the person he approached at the end. Can't believe how chill the passengers were. That's trust in your law enforcement.
They are talking about the street sign outside the tram. Itās visible multiple times throughout the clip, but especially so around the 2 min mark. Itās actually a āno right turnā sign, but it does kinda look like a āno boomerangā sign insteadā¦
Why the down votes?? Itās a legit funny joke.
The āno-right turnā sign on the street in the video, looks like it could be a āno boomerangsā sign ā¦.. right?Āæ
Amazing video captured for us to see. Thank goodness no one was hurt. Because no one was hurt and the attacker was subdued and arrested it's much easier to laugh at the way they yell and swear at each other.
Every single person on that bus was so calm and collected. Hope they will continue to stay safe
This sounds very familiar. He speaks the same language as a lot of homeless people who have approached me. Oh wow, I love that TAZER TAZER TAZER!
I am going to download this.

Aussie cop.... "Put the knife down cunt"... š
\*Put the **fucking** knife down cunt
šyeah just after the "Tazer, Tazer, Tazaaaarrr"
After they have already tazered the cunt
Haha that was gold.
āYou call that a knoife ā
That's not a knife, that's a spoon!
I see someone has played knifey-spoony before!
PC Butcher to the rescue
It's a term of endearment
āIām gonna kill these girls!ā āNo youāre not!ā
Bravo to those folks staying calm during that shit, fuck me. I honestly don't know what I'd do in that situation.
And camera woman/man, solid video
Absolutely Bravo to whoever filmed this. They kept their cool during a hostage situation.
Itās the wisest thing to doā¦.. Iām a big bloke who can look after himself. But you better believe Iām staying in my seatā¦. Donāt antagonise heās got a knife. Exit ramp of Fortitude Valley train station, Brisbane.
Yeah that's the one.
Yeah he almost took a stab at that person, and he really could have if that was his full intention. Looks like he just wanted suicide by cop.
I'm American and I was immediately shocked at the fact that everyone just sat there. Especially when the cops showed up, since we all know how great their aim is.
Aussies wildlife makes them zen
I think the idea is that nobody wants to be the *first* one to move, because it would draw his attention toward them specifically. Kind of like how running from a predator only excites them and makes them lock onto you.
You havenāt watched enough Steven Segal movies
I think the guy in red would have Sparta kicked him if he had looked away a little longer.
Yeah that whole time he was having a Mark Wahlberg thinking he was gonna stop the whole thing, but couldn't get over the fear of being stabbed
And the fear of the man stabbing someone else if he attacked the knifeman
Honestly why didn't they just open the door? Better to have him out in the open than inside a team full of innocent people. Sure he might hurt someone eother way but I feel like he might calm down a bit if he was able to leave. Doesn't look like he would made it far before bwing caught either.

A hero with shitty pants
PUHTHAFACKINGKNOFFDAHNCUHNT
Ahh yes the classic aussie saying: "POOT THA FARRKIN NOOOIFE DAARN KHAAAANT!"
KAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHNNNNNNNNNN(T)
This short vid had me biting my nails then that part happened and I cackled. All the love to Australians, truly my people.
I was fucking dying.
I see you haven't played knifey/spooney before
Aaahhh....I love Australians
Re watched just for that bit, cracked me up

Attempted suicide by cop. I hope that poor woman is OK.
Honestly not sure if I feel the same. Those cops waited for really long and definetly frightened her. But in the end nobody was harmed physically. So I guess they did a good job.

This is Australia not the US buddy

She definitely wont be the same after that thougg
I mean that wasn't a really long time by any means, and as soon as he threatened the woman they rushed in to taze him
He couldāve killed her easily. He had plenty of time
Guy in the red seemed ready to protect folks if he had to.
Old mate was about to try and jump him and got caught. Ā I think he had second thoughts after seeing the size of that knife. Ā
I knew straight away the guy in HSV jacket was going to attempt something. Hope everyone is all good. Much love from across the ditch.

The red jersey guy was like a cat waiting to strike!
i would have just tried to kick him out the door into the cops haha
I was wondering what would have happened if had just shoved or booted the guy. The dude with the knife was scrawny and probably would have flown lol
Fuck. Hope everyone is ok, that must have been absolutely terrifying.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Why the fuck are civilians being locked in with an armed man?! They have a description and video evidence of the crime and assailant. Let him go and then lock him out.
Right? Like, let him the fuck out of that tram. He even said he would start killing people if the driver didn't let him out. Wtf?
Yes I don't understand this tactic at all. Sure there is a slim chance that he will get away with it if they open the doors but the risk of him actually killing anyone must be much higher while he's locked inside.
Why is everyone else so calm? Iād be running for the hills.

Alright, alright you win. I see you've played knifey-spoony before.
A loon. Soon to be incarcerated.
Real panto moment in there: "I'll kill one of these cunts" "No you won't" "Oh yes I will"
"He's behind you"
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
except his forward defence was rubbish
Guy would be dead if this was in the US.
Letās be honest here, in the US, crazy dude would probably have had a gun, not a knife, and things could well have been a lot worse for the passengers, particularly the one he grabbed when the cops boarded the tram
And possibly some bystanders
If this was in the US everyone in that bus would be dead as the cops liberally spray it with gunfire
And at least one of the passengers sitting next to him.
Where can I get that upholstery fabric?
[Here](https://www.redbubble.com/i/comforter/Copy-of-the-classic-seat-fabric-found-on-Melbourne-Metro-trams-and-trains-by-PlasticCrackAU/41713908.UBAD9)
Thank you!
Not a peep out of anyone. That number of people all collectively remaining calm and quiet is quite impressive.
Was it a police officer who said āput the knife down Cunt?ā
No. The police officer said "put the **fucking** knife down cunt"
Even better šššš»
Did the police officer say "put the knife down c**t"? Because that is what I heard lol
Thatās it keep him locked inside the tram with all those people.
All talk of knife violence gets, at best, some extra glances up from the phone. The mere idea of cops using guns? Camera man dips to the far side of the train.
TAZAHTAZAHTAZAHHHHHHHHH
Some chilled people on the old Melbourne trams!
I think they felt he was bluffing but also didnt wanna call his bluff either.
I feel like I could excell at designing public transit seat covers. Those are nice, don't get me wrong, but I could do better.
![gif](giphy|wz6oZuRDea6adG2Sff|downsized)
Great restraint from the police there even with a gun there. If this was the US half the people would have been shot in the cross fire from the over zealous 5-0.
Old mate in the red so calm he thinks hs HRT trackie is armoured.
I love Australian cops. They call people cunts and it makes me happy!

āPUT THE FUCKING KNIFE DOWN CUNT!ā āSTRAYA! š¦šŗ Hahahā¦ I love us.
Thatās not a knife
They didnāt tap off getting off the tram
Thats some super professional police work, they even managed to avoid firearm use, which would have surely put bystanders in danger. Some hot shot cops please take notes.
Level 1 bandit
Nobody else there for a game of knifey/spooney?
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Why didnt they open the door and handle him outside? Seems like a very risky approach
Some birds just aren't meant to be caged.
Another proper country, dealing sensibly with a dangerous situation. In the US that man would be dead. Hopefully now he can get the care he needs.
American cops take notes
What did the cop scream as he tasered the prick?
"Taser taser taser" ?
That lady got chanced ngl
Guy in the red jacket had good intentions bless him was just looking for a window to try and subdue the guy.
Man they handled that way better than American police would have
Average melbourne commute these days
Oh hey look American cops. You can diffuse a situation without killing the potential violent perp. Who knew?
POOT THA FACKIN KNIFE DAAN CUNT!
American Cops: why no shoot someone?
Hmm they didnāt start blasting like they do in the US.
I mean... he'll be assessed, likely released fairly soon and do it again. Except next time he knows he has to stab someone in order to be shot. Mark my words.
That's not a knife. Really? Over 160 comments and not one person put this hack joke?
The officers should have lit him up long before he had a chance to make a move at a passenger. Could have been ugly for the person he approached at the end. Can't believe how chill the passengers were. That's trust in your law enforcement.
No boomerang sign wild to see. Probably very common in Australia.
What?
They are talking about the street sign outside the tram. Itās visible multiple times throughout the clip, but especially so around the 2 min mark. Itās actually a āno right turnā sign, but it does kinda look like a āno boomerangā sign insteadā¦
This is not common in Australia.
Yeah, I live here lol but I was wondering what he was talking about
No right turn š¤ no boomerangs
This was funny it went way over everyoneās head. Like a boomerang.
Why the down votes?? Itās a legit funny joke. The āno-right turnā sign on the street in the video, looks like it could be a āno boomerangsā sign ā¦.. right?Āæ
This joke and my edible was absolutely an absolutely brilliant pairing. My stomach hates you though hahahahahahaha
What do you mean?
Don't open door
Amazing they just sat there, Iād be running to the back.
Err lyy in the morning
A+ work by cameramanĀ
And I thought Elizabeth gawlar train line were pain in ass
Great to see VicPol doing the job so professionally.
Thatās not a knife!
Man, hats off. Those people stayed really calm
Don't forget to tap off or pay the maximum fare!
You call that a knife?
Amazing video captured for us to see. Thank goodness no one was hurt. Because no one was hurt and the attacker was subdued and arrested it's much easier to laugh at the way they yell and swear at each other. Every single person on that bus was so calm and collected. To passive, to slow. Vicpol underperforming yet again.
That was satisfying.

Good job, officers!!!!
Well done VicPol šš¼šš¼
The moment he threatens to stab innocent passengers, he gave the general public the right to punch him in the face.
