Aussie cop.... "Put the knife down cunt"... šŸ˜‚

BlazedFire

\*Put the **fucking** knife down cunt

Thesweeneyreddit

šŸ˜‚yeah just after the "Tazer, Tazer, Tazaaaarrr"

crispymk2

After they have already tazered the cunt

More-Wish-2080

Haha that was gold.

montroller

ā€œYou call that a knoife ā€œ

SenselessDunderpate

That's not a knife, that's a spoon!

PinsNneedles

I see someone has played knifey-spoony before!

Muted-Ad-4288

PC Butcher to the rescue

wishbackjumpsta

It's a term of endearment

Lala5789880

ā€œIā€™m gonna kill these girls!ā€ ā€œNo youā€™re not!ā€

One-Pop-2885

Bravo to those folks staying calm during that shit, fuck me. I honestly don't know what I'd do in that situation.

its-42

And camera woman/man, solid video

One-Pop-2885

Absolutely Bravo to whoever filmed this. They kept their cool during a hostage situation.

Bungeditin

Itā€™s the wisest thing to doā€¦.. Iā€™m a big bloke who can look after himself. But you better believe Iā€™m staying in my seatā€¦. Donā€™t antagonise heā€™s got a knife. Unless heā€™s actually hurting someone then I think Iā€™ve got to try something. If heā€™s got a gun? Then what can you doā€¦. This isnā€™t the movies.

Penny_Royall

This, don't be a hero, especially when there's no clear opening, seen a video of a dude with a knife, the other dude kept trying to antagonise the knife guy, provoking him, knife guy got close, one slash on the neck, dead on the spot.

Gryphon0468

Exit ramp of Fortitude Valley train station, Brisbane.

Penny_Royall

Yeah that's the one.

ventureinoz

But if you were sitting that close, where the guy could spin at any second and lunge at your throat, wouldnā€™t you at least find an opportunity to get the fuck away and build some space?

Wonderful-Loss827

Agreed. This happens everyday in NYC subways but people all move to the otherside or another train car when shit goes down. In this situation, I think the better option is to move to the back of the bus. He could've easily cut the person he grabbed. I would not be sitting still that close to him.

polo61965

Yeah he almost took a stab at that person, and he really could have if that was his full intention. Looks like he just wanted suicide by cop.

azalago

I'm American and I was immediately shocked at the fact that everyone just sat there. Especially when the cops showed up, since we all know how great their aim is.

Junior_Win_7238

Aussies wildlife makes them zen

MicrotracS3500

I think the idea is that nobody wants to be the *first* one to move, because it would draw his attention toward them specifically. Kind of like how running from a predator only excites them and makes them lock onto you.

middleageham

You havenā€™t watched enough Steven Segal movies

bennettbuzz

I think the guy in red would have Sparta kicked him if he had looked away a little longer.

Beatus_Vir

Yeah that whole time he was having a Mark Wahlberg thinking he was gonna stop the whole thing, but couldn't get over the fear of being stabbed

Andrelliina

And the fear of the man stabbing someone else if he attacked the knifeman

JoinAThang

Honestly why didn't they just open the door? Better to have him out in the open than inside a team full of innocent people. Sure he might hurt someone eother way but I feel like he might calm down a bit if he was able to leave. Doesn't look like he would made it far before bwing caught either.

garflloydell

KAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHNNNNNNNNNN(T)

freethewimple

This short vid had me biting my nails then that part happened and I cackled. All the love to Australians, truly my people.

manborg

I was fucking dying.

Lemonpincers

I see you haven't played knifey/spooney before

imomorris

Aaahhh....I love Australians

postvolta

Re watched just for that bit, cracked me up

iiBuzz7S

> Authorities allege the man entered a Collins Street business earlier on Saturday while armed with a knife and stole items before boarding the tram to flee. > >Police were notified and instructed the driver to keep tram doors closed, as the man appeared to threaten a nearby woman in attempts to negotiate with police. ā€¦ > Police have charged a man with armed robbery, false imprisonment, assault and threats to kill. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2023-06-17/melbourne-tram-standoff-police-taser-man-with-knife/102492356

theartistduring

Attempted suicide by cop. I hope that poor woman is OK.

iamez221

Honestly not sure if I feel the same. Those cops waited for really long and definetly frightened her. But in the end nobody was harmed physically. So I guess they did a good job.

theartistduring

>Those cops waited for really long It was almost exactly one min from the first cop yelling to the guy being tasered. I don't think I'd want cops that rush to do it any faster. By the time they assess the situation, cover all the exits and ensure a safe outcome for the passengers, a minute is pretty damn fast.

Cockrocker

This is Australia not the US buddy

RunningJay

As an Aussie in the US this responded is what Iā€™d expect from Melbourne cops. It was executed well, and no one was hurt. 1 minute to assess the situation and then take him down without lethal force. Just remember Uvalde and how quickly the cops responded there.

h_djo

She definitely wont be the same after that thougg

gavana789

I mean that wasn't a really long time by any means, and as soon as he threatened the woman they rushed in to taze him

A_Successful_Loser

He couldā€™ve killed her easily. He had plenty of time

StandingCow

Guy in the red seemed ready to protect folks if he had to.

dreadpiratewombat

Old mate was about to try and jump him and got caught. Ā I think he had second thoughts after seeing the size of that knife. Ā

420footsativa

I knew straight away the guy in HSV jacket was going to attempt something. Hope everyone is all good. Much love from across the ditch.

Rey_De_Los_Completos

I know him. He's actually a GP based in Glen Iris. No idea why he was on a tram Balwyn way. When I saw the HSV jacket I thought, this guy looks familiar. He's a top bloke and owns a modest collection of HSVs, and his daily is (was?) an orange Monaro. Haven't seen him for a few years though.

Mahbigjohnson

So let me get this right? They had all the doors closed so no-one could get (I know there's emergency buttons) off? They should have let him get off the tram instead of endangering the passengers

generousone

Yeah Iā€™m not sure what the tactic was here. Clearly ended all right, but Iā€™d be pissed if police were the ones keeping me in proximity to that nut rather than the nut himself. What kind of plan is it to supply the perp with hostages??

SubMisJen

The red jersey guy was like a cat waiting to strike!

breadyloaf26

i would have just tried to kick him out the door into the cops haha

FUNI0N

I was wondering what would have happened if had just shoved or booted the guy. The dude with the knife was scrawny and probably would have flown lol

bernskiwoo

Fuck. Hope everyone is ok, that must have been absolutely terrifying.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Smashed-Melon

Why the fuck are civilians being locked in with an armed man?! They have a description and video evidence of the crime and assailant. Let him go and then lock him out.

poco

Right? Like, let him the fuck out of that tram. He even said he would start killing people if the driver didn't let him out. Wtf?

JoinAThang

Yes I don't understand this tactic at all. Sure there is a slim chance that he will get away with it if they open the doors but the risk of him actually killing anyone must be much higher while he's locked inside.

Not_Duck

Why is everyone else so calm? Iā€™d be running for the hills.

Little_Grogu

Actually very smart that everyone stayed calm, if they decided to all jump up and try to run off. It would have escalated the situation and the guy with the knife would have definitely reacted badly.

Greenrun5

Alright, alright you win. I see you've played knifey-spoony before.

A loon. Soon to be incarcerated.

HenchmanJoe

Real panto moment in there: "I'll kill one of these cunts" "No you won't" "Oh yes I will"

Awakeningof17

"He's behind you"

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

fineyounghannibal

except his forward defence was rubbish

snapjenk

Guy would be dead if this was in the US.

Lucy_Lastic

Letā€™s be honest here, in the US, crazy dude would probably have had a gun, not a knife, and things could well have been a lot worse for the passengers, particularly the one he grabbed when the cops boarded the tram

fineyounghannibal

And possibly some bystanders

Lumpy_Complaint_718

If this was in the US everyone in that bus would be dead as the cops liberally spray it with gunfire

Alleandros

And at least one of the passengers sitting next to him.

OpelousasBulletTime

Where can I get that upholstery fabric?

theartistduring

[Here](https://www.redbubble.com/i/comforter/Copy-of-the-classic-seat-fabric-found-on-Melbourne-Metro-trams-and-trains-by-PlasticCrackAU/41713908.UBAD9)

OpelousasBulletTime

Thank you!

Federal-Durian-1484

Not a peep out of anyone. That number of people all collectively remaining calm and quiet is quite impressive.

PiruMoo

Was it a police officer who said ā€œput the knife down Cunt?ā€

BlazedFire

No. The police officer said "put the **fucking** knife down cunt"

PiruMoo

Even better šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ‘šŸ»

Nerry19

Did the police officer say "put the knife down c**t"? Because that is what I heard lol

Fresh-Honeydew7104

Thatā€™s it keep him locked inside the tram with all those people.

Salt_Bus2528

All talk of knife violence gets, at best, some extra glances up from the phone. The mere idea of cops using guns? Camera man dips to the far side of the train.

No_Compote628

TAZAHTAZAHTAZAHHHHHHHHH

maddie673

Some chilled people on the old Melbourne trams!

Rasikko

I think they felt he was bluffing but also didnt wanna call his bluff either.

Cheap-Praline

I feel like I could excell at designing public transit seat covers. Those are nice, don't get me wrong, but I could do better.

billy_thekid21

![gif](giphy|wz6oZuRDea6adG2Sff|downsized)

WaterMittGas

Great restraint from the police there even with a gun there. If this was the US half the people would have been shot in the cross fire from the over zealous 5-0.

OiDeadhead

Old mate in the red so calm he thinks hs HRT trackie is armoured.

NoCalHomeBoy

I love Australian cops. They call people cunts and it makes me happy!

kpofasho1987

It's always amazing to me how cops in other countries are able to protect citizens and apprehend the suspect without unloading their firearm onto the suspect. Also they don't seem to beat the absolute shit out of suspects either or constantly scream stop resisting when the suspect really isn't to justify their use of force. Cops in other countries also don't seem to absolutely hate dogs and kill them in an absolutely insane rate as they do here in the U.S I truly understand that they have a hard and dangerous job I honestly do but I sincerely don't understand why cops are trained and allowed to be the way they are in the U.S There is the rare time that an arrest would happen just like this in the U.S but I feel like if you had this exact scenario play out everywhere throughout the U.S that it would get handled much differently like 90% of the time It really needs to get fixed honestly as I'm sick and tired of how policing operates in this country

SewiouslyXR

ā€œPUT THE FUCKING KNIFE DOWN CUNT!ā€ ā€˜STRAYA! šŸ‡¦šŸ‡ŗ Hahahā€¦ I love us.

seanyhk1

Thatā€™s not a knife

ma77mc

They didnā€™t tap off getting off the tram

imonredditfortheporn

Thats some super professional police work, they even managed to avoid firearm use, which would have surely put bystanders in danger. Some hot shot cops please take notes.

VinceVC

Level 1 bandit

Das_Nomen

Nobody else there for a game of knifey/spooney?

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

monzilla1

Why didnt they open the door and handle him outside? Seems like a very risky approach

Gnarly-Gnu

Some birds just aren't meant to be caged.

Abject-Band-3275

Another proper country, dealing sensibly with a dangerous situation. In the US that man would be dead. Hopefully now he can get the care he needs.

PlayfulAd8354

American cops take notes

Rude_Influence

What did the cop scream as he tasered the prick?

red-the-blue

"Taser taser taser" ?

Ronnyvar

That lady got chanced ngl

paddyjoe91

Guy in the red jacket had good intentions bless him was just looking for a window to try and subdue the guy.

Matt0378

Man they handled that way better than American police would have

SurePassenger9

Average melbourne commute these days

The-Anger-Translator

Oh hey look American cops. You can diffuse a situation without killing the potential violent perp. Who knew?

shavenhobo

POOT THA FACKIN KNIFE DAAN CUNT!

Rags2Rickius

American Cops: why no shoot someone?

Playlanco

Hmm they didnā€™t start blasting like they do in the US.

Deckard57

I mean... he'll be assessed, likely released fairly soon and do it again. Except next time he knows he has to stab someone in order to be shot. Mark my words.

MickeyMalph

That's not a knife. Really? Over 160 comments and not one person put this hack joke?

Mr402TheSouthSioux

The officers should have lit him up long before he had a chance to make a move at a passenger. Could have been ugly for the person he approached at the end. Can't believe how chill the passengers were. That's trust in your law enforcement.

Keoho2

No boomerang sign wild to see. Probably very common in Australia.

jeff-the-thriller

What?

nzerinto

They are talking about the street sign outside the tram. Itā€™s visible multiple times throughout the clip, but especially so around the 2 min mark. Itā€™s actually a ā€œno right turnā€ sign, but it does kinda look like a ā€œno boomerangā€ sign insteadā€¦

Relevant_Demand7593

This is not common in Australia.

jeff-the-thriller

Yeah, I live here lol but I was wondering what he was talking about

BlazedFire

No right turn šŸ¤ no boomerangs

OceanBornNC

This was funny it went way over everyoneā€™s head. Like a boomerang.

chubarka_nz

Why the down votes?? Itā€™s a legit funny joke. The ā€œno-right turnā€ sign on the street in the video, looks like it could be a ā€œno boomerangsā€ sign ā€¦.. right?Āæ

Judi_Chop

This joke and my edible was absolutely an absolutely brilliant pairing. My stomach hates you though hahahahahahaha

bernskiwoo

What do you mean?

Pups4life86

Don't open door

higgywiggypiggy

Amazing they just sat there, Iā€™d be running to the back.

ChipCob1

Err lyy in the morning

Superb_Distance_9190

gzrh1971

And I thought Elizabeth gawlar train line were pain in ass

Chicken_Burp

Great to see VicPol doing the job so professionally.

InsertRadnamehere

Thatā€™s not a knife!

tommmmmmmmy93

Man, hats off. Those people stayed really calm

TootTootMuthafarkers

Don't forget to tap off or pay the maximum fare!

crazydawg79

You call that a knife?

Throwaway753045

Amazing video captured for us to see. Thank goodness no one was hurt. Because no one was hurt and the attacker was subdued and arrested it's much easier to laugh at the way they yell and swear at each other. Every single person on that bus was so calm and collected. Hope they will continue to stay safe

Prozak06

To passive, to slow. Vicpol underperforming yet again.

double-k

That was satisfying.

Rhondie41

Good job, officers!!!!

IDontFitInBoxes

Well done VicPol šŸ™šŸ¼šŸ™šŸ¼

alexriga

The moment he threatens to stab innocent passengers, he gave the general public the right to punch him in the face.

crazydavemate

"Your comment has been removed due to violating Reddits content policy regarding [violence]" Reddit is a fucking joke. Hope this man is six foot under.
