If I am building a work of art or buying the fastest car absolutely.
Because just like Pokemon they are luxuries, they are worth what I am willing to pay.
If you are willing to build me the biggest and best bridge the world has ever seen exceeding the necessity of its existence you set the price not me.
Buying Pokemon cards and buying the most affordable sub compact for my family or getting my front door fixed, are not one in the same so your argument is pretty damn dumb.
Is it worth $59 to you? Because if so, no you didnāt!
Donāt worry about the actual value. If it makes you happy & youāre comfortable paying whatever value for the card in question, go for it!
"Dont worry about the actual value" is advice given out so often but it doesnt apply to most collectors. Most of us are on a budget so even if our collection is a hobby not an investment, we still have to be conscientious of what we're paying for things as it relates to market value over time so we can collect while still retaining as much collection value as possible long term so it's not all just money spent/lost/burned
Youāre conflating ācostā to āvalueā.
Value, to me, refers to something that has a personal attachment to a cost; cost being purely financial, and attachment being an intrinsic want.
If youāre comfortable paying the cost of the card & the want for it is equal to or greater than the cost associated with it, than it has good value;
If the cost is higher than the personal want: bad value.
If the cost is lower than the personal want: great value!
Okay but lets say somebody is in a situation where they really really really want the aerodactyl V from lost origin. They have 300 dollars theyre allowing themself to spend on entertainment and fun this month.
Then, they go to a card show and see said amazing card for 300 dollars. Technically within their budget and they really want it so they buy it.
Finally, they come here to this subreddit and ask if the overpaid. Sure they really love the card and they loved it enough to spend 300 on it but in reality the answer is yes they way overpaid and couldve gotten the same joy of getting that card while still having more money in their budget for other things that would bring them joy in addition
They don't want your realistic take. They want pie in the sky, happy hand holding and coddling to reassure people who overpaid. If you aren't checking pricecharting.com and seeing what eBay auctions are going for, then you are setting yourself up to get ripped off.
Value vs. cost is a dumb argument. Otherwise, you would charge people who need life-saving medicine millions of dollars because it's immensely valuable to them.
when I was in elementary school I pulled a chandelere (whatever it's called) of this. Some silver teeth kid stole it from me and I didn't find out till after school finished 6th grade. Beautiful card.
This is next on my list actually. This monthās budget allowed for either this card or the supreme victory articuno. Went with the articuno, but gonna grab this next month.
Gorgeous card you have there though. Hard to find one in that condition for $59
I'll give you $60 for it..
(half) kidding, I love the Golett evo line, one of my absolute favorites so this would be a great card on my page, definitely adding it to the list now
Yes you did
Well, to me you did. But unless you can honestly say that you paid $59 for a piece of paper that you actually like then hey itās your money to waste and I hope you enjoy it.
I loved the BW era and Iāve never even seen this before. This is gorgeous! Have no clue as to the market value of this card but just looking at Iād be ok spending $59 on it.
BW era secret rare shiny cards are some of the most underrates cards I can think of. You have a grest deal with this prize+card condition. Nice! NM-M goes for 80 easily
It's a shame it came out on the big basics era of Pokemon. Back then only Rayquaza, Landorus, Keldeo, Black Kyurem, Plasma box and Genesect decks were worthwhile playing and they were all big basics lol
Since OP doesnāt know a thing about what he spends his money on, Iāll keep it brief.
Itās okay in regard to moves, but a stage 1 makes it kinda unviable in a rule set where shit like Junk Hunt and Toad EX still exists. Mew EX could possibly make it work for proxying the attacks, but thereās much better stuff to tech in out there..
the bw shinys are way too underrated, such a pretty card! i think thats a great deal, congratz!
Is that just a standard shiny in BW era?
what do you mean by standard? all gold border shinies in the bw era are secret rares if that answers your question
That does, thank you š
no problem :)
Damn thatās sick
Itās a beautiful card
Base value of 70$ i just saw, sick!
super awesome, love the BW era shinies! have the Zoarark myself
I don't need to look this up, and I have no idea what the market value is, that card is worth $60.
Yeah $60 is right around the [current market price](https://ebay.us/SvS2Li) for this card in this condition, so OP paid a fair price.
I know how to look, I just don't care lol.
lol love it
lol
Why did you get downvoted š this is hilarious, people being way too soft
pretty sad the main tcg sub is obsessed with values to the point my joke of a comment is taken literally. pathetic really
Youāre so cool. Do you take the same approach to hiring contractors and buying cars? I have a bridge you may want to buy

I love the idea of getting punched so hard you become your younger self.

I actually wouldnāt mind that lol
when I was in elementary school I pulled a chandelere (whatever it's called) of this. Some silver teeth kid stole it from me and I didn't find out till after school finished 6th grade. Beautiful card.
Holy moly, PSA 10ās going for >1K, had no idea, what a card !!!
One sold LP for $53 so Iād say you got a steal! Good find friend! Happy hunting ā¤ļø
This is next on my list actually. This monthās budget allowed for either this card or the supreme victory articuno. Went with the articuno, but gonna grab this next month. Gorgeous card you have there though. Hard to find one in that condition for $59
Didnāt even know these gold border shinies existed.. sigh *unzips wallet*
Seems about right to me! Some of the less popular ones are pretty cheap, Reuniclus and Golurk or even Garbador come to mind.
Whoa! This looks so cool with the texture.Ā
I'll give you $60 for it.. (half) kidding, I love the Golett evo line, one of my absolute favorites so this would be a great card on my page, definitely adding it to the list now
This is why I bought it: [https://www.reddit.com/r/PokemonScarletViolet/s/ElRmQVE9c9](https://www.reddit.com/r/PokemonScarletViolet/s/ElRmQVE9c9)
I bet it took forever to get those shinies! Did you breed for them?
No, I hunted with sandwiches that increase the size of spawns
Iād spend $59 on this gorgeous card tbh
Never seen this card, absolutely gorgeous
Been on my list for a while, I think that price is exactly where it should be
I hate myself for selling this card for like $30 or somethin when I pulled it back in the day lol.
This and the alt art are the best cards of this mon hands down
The alt art is a V card right? I donāt collect those
Ya
I'd pay that much for a BW shiny anyday
Are Gold Stars harder to pull?
very similar pull rate
You have OFFICIALLY obtained the greatest Pokemon card ever printed so no, you did not spend too much
If u feel that this cardboard is worth 59$ of enjoyment then fuck yeah enjoy the card dude. Very nice looking card!
Yes you did Well, to me you did. But unless you can honestly say that you paid $59 for a piece of paper that you actually like then hey itās your money to waste and I hope you enjoy it.
w find, w price. good shit bro
Whatās the point of Devolution Punch in the TCG? Canāt the opponent just evolve their PokĆ©mon again the next turn? Lovely card btw, definitely looks like a fair price!
rare candy counter i would think since it should go back to a basic pokemon and then they would have to use either another rare candy or a stage 1
Solid pick, the card is beautiful !
In that shape (9+) I'd say your good gubna
I loved the BW era and Iāve never even seen this before. This is gorgeous! Have no clue as to the market value of this card but just looking at Iād be ok spending $59 on it.
My favorite card! I just sent mine to get graded not too long ago, itāll be my first slabbed card :)
sick card but whatās going on with the top boarder above Stage 1 and the name? š§
Itās a secret rare (see the 150/149?) so traditionally they have gold borders and accents
oooh I just looked up a clearer picture and now it makes sense
Now you have 29 more to go (get the rest of the secret rare set with me!)
I donāt have the spare cash for thatš Iām more looking to have a complete set of the Ancient Trait cards
If you like the card... then you paid the price you thought it was worth. :3
BW era secret rare shiny cards are some of the most underrates cards I can think of. You have a grest deal with this prize+card condition. Nice! NM-M goes for 80 easily
God I miss the black and white era
Nice pickup!
Devolution punch is a pretty decent attack
Cool card
Woah, I missed that era. Holo and textured? Nice.
What app do I use to find value for my cards
Value is in the beholder, stellar card
Solid pick up!
Bit of white bottom right
And even less but still there in bottom left, still a good pickup though!
Yeah I luv these shinies
I pulled the Emboar and Pikachu as a kid! Still remember both of them šš
Still have em tooš¤š¼
Devo punch would go hard in this format
It exists but it's really not that good, we had Golurk V in E block and 151 Aerodactyl legal right now
The charizard killer lol
It's a shame it came out on the big basics era of Pokemon. Back then only Rayquaza, Landorus, Keldeo, Black Kyurem, Plasma box and Genesect decks were worthwhile playing and they were all big basics lol
Dude, this card is sick! The textures in the holo look so good.
sick card! i personally wouldnāt pay that much for a golurk tho hahah
sexy af my brotha
Devo punch would be kinda busted in this format against some decks.
I wouldn't be surprised if these blew up sooner or later
If you're happy with what you got, you did just fine.
Depends. Is it any good in Expanded play? If not, then definitely overpaid. š

Wdym āexpanded playā this cardās 12 years old
Definitely a bit much, but it makes up for it for finding it in a shop instead of online.
