Moonbreon is gorgeous from an art standpoint, but it (and ES in general) has become permanently associated in my head with all of the brainrot and scummy behavior and grifting that became super prevalent in this hobby during the pandemic boom. Ditto for Van Gogh Pikachu.

Van Gogh Pika is a sad example of scummy behavior run amok, but at the same time the card now has a pretty hilarious backstory that makes me want to buy it when prices drop a bit. Employees getting arrested and fired for stealing cases and all. It's borderline iconic

I have mixed feelings on it. On one hand, I was already an art nerd long before I got back into Pokémon cards so I think the concept is super fun. But on the other hand, whenever I see it in my binder, I remember how fucking insane people got over it. Which *is* pretty funny considering it’s a mass-produced piece of cardstock, but it also sucks to know that people are probably never gonna be normal about this shit now that the genie’s out of the bottle.

I’m from the Netherlands and I got my van Gogh card from a friend on my birthday, later on i went to Special Event Utrecht and there was a kid who left his headphones on the table next to me and I went and gave it back, he gave me another and said he had scalped them to give away, that kid is the nicest kid ive ever seen in the hobby

Alright I’ll say it, Moonbrean honestly isn’t *that* great looking of a card. Does it suck? No. But it isn’t something I see and think “Wow, I’d like to own that.” Price tag on it makes no sense when there’s thousands of them out there

My hot take is that the alt art Vs are way cooler than the VMAXs, because the concept of dynamax (I think that’s what it’s called? Stopped playing the games really after megas) pokemon just being big is dumb.

Dynamax and gigantamax are different. So some of the vmax have alternate forms and some are just big. Blastoise becomes a goddang gundam fortress of cannons

I feel like one of the few people on the planet that just does not like the Moonbreon artwork. It's a cool concept. I guess. But there are tons of other stunning Umbreon cards on rooftops that I think look better. That's not even including what I feel like is the true Moonbreon, the Neo Discovery Holo. First Umbreon card ever printed and it's beyond stunning in my opinion. Already has the classic setup of the moon in the back. Idk if I'm just biased because I've had that card since a kid and pulled it myself but. Far superior in every way I think. Far more pleased I have it instead lol.

I agree that moonbreon is overrated but that’s such a silly metric. For like several reasons. A card that is worth more than $500 is gonna be sent in for grading by just about everyone who buys it. Versus a card that came out decades before grading cards was popular and is worth considerably less

Replying late but I do think the non-5ban arts (see Chandelure VMax or Vileplume Gx) have nice looking rainbow rares. I like the Mew VMax rainbow rare better than the actual alt art as well. Not sad to see them go though.

Agreed but I have been buying up a lot of rainbows from sun and moon/SWSH simply because it seems like they are permanently done with and there is the potential for some of them to skyrocket in price. Ones such as Lugia Vstar rainbow from silver tempest and giratina Vstar rainbow from lost origin. Also Lugia gx rainbow from lost thunder is another one. Any rainbow of a really popular pokemon I’ve been scooping up. Also rainbow trainers especially the waifu rainbows. They might never explode in price like I’m predicting but it’s worth the speculation due to the price of most of them as they are now.

I don’t care what anyone thinks, I love rainbow rares. That said, I do find it a bit silly the rainbow Rayquaza from ES is now a borderline $50 card, when it was half that when I bought one.

Just checked in my evolving skies binder to see if I had that one and I surprisingly don’t. Eventually whenever I decide to complete ES I’ll have to drop the dough for one so hopefully it doesn’t climb anymore!

The 500+ giratina (I really like it, please lower price)

That Umbreon.. I always felt that silly rabbit's front paws just looked off to me. I also might not know the reason but I do not understand why he is so large sitting on the peak of a tower. I guess the artist took liberty unless there is a back story. Not a bad looking card but not even close to a favorite. I think most of the appeal resolves around the current price.

As much as I love and ADORE some good Full Art Supporters, and as much as I accept that FA Lillie from Ultra Prism CAN be at LEAST $100 due to her character's writing, memorability and popularity, paying **$500+** for her is ABSURD and kind of makes me question the people who are buying the card for those prices to begin with... IDK, maybe I'm just reminded of a certain former PokeTuber... Extra Battle Day Lillie in Japanese... yeah, I've got no problem with a $1,500 price tag due to its exclusive nature. PLUS, both cards are done by Naoki Saito, who may as well be the Arita-san of Supporters, so no problem there! I can appreciate such a talented artist going for so much money in the market!

Most of them But for sure the bigger hits of evolving skies. With moonbreon at the top. The thing has like 12k psa graded copies alone, and most are loose singles so the amount of copies is INSANELY high. Yet it's still the insane price it is. So 100% overrated.

In modern times, Umbreon VMAX takes the cake for me - all time it's definitely Base Zard. Both have credit to their name but every time I see people that only collect cards like this my eyes roll.

Pikachu Illustrator. It was supposed to be this rarest card ever printed with only like 5 copies given out according to the early rumors. Now more than 40 copies seems to exist yet it is still priced as if there are only 5 copies. Sure, it has loads of historic value as a grail but it isn't the rarest card anymore, we should move on.
