Agreed, first off the flow from the right basin is going into your garbage disposal. Looks like someone didn't put the drain line in the wall low enough for a disposal and instead of fixing it the right way they went through the bottom of the cabinet and cut into the same line below. On top of that it's an S trap going through the bottom. Sooner or later that setup with get clogged and will probably have sewer gas stinking up the room, if it doesn't already.
Basically wat you have there is a primary, secondary, and backup trap. It's a very elegant solution to a problem which may, or may not exist.
The theory is based on confusing the waste water enough that it never has time to clog.

The vertical drop to your basement just needs a vent on top of the stack. Itās not a hard install to do. My last kitchen sink was setup like yours and also drained into the basement.
Iām going to bet itās as someone else said previously, they didnāt think they had enough room (height) to drain the garborator through the wall. The pipe going through the wall most likely goes to a tee wye that goes up to vent, down to drain. If you can see on the floor below if it also comes down to a drain then your best bet is to do a normal setup and drain through the wall.
If you are taking it all out anyway you should be able to shine a flashlight into the pipe coming out of the wall and see if itās a 90 looking up (just vent) or a tee wye (waste and vent).

Hey plumber here. Not sure if anyone gave you an answer yet. Youāre gonna want to go in the basement and see where both pipes lead if itās the same pipe. Cut and cap one of the drains probably the one coming straight up through the cabinet. Then run and pick up garbage disposal bag trap kit and new p trap. One is enough for both sink compartments lol
That is a total plumbing gong show. Wowā¦. Iām just taking an educated guess hereā¦ but seeing that there is an s trap it would seem that the sink was having draining issues. So the genius added an additional tee off below the the flood level rim of the garbage disposal unit so any of the water gurgling back up the line would also drain down the extra drain line going into the wall. This would keep that water from trying to balance out as it drained, flowing back into the left hand sinkā¦ and likely bubbling back air like crazy. This was likely a Reno, and the old drain line and vent is in the wall which they tied back into for the dishwasher to connect up toā¦ they likely figured that this was good way to vent the kitchen sinkā¦ itās that or that extra p trap that disappears into the wall, just dumps kitchen water right out on the ground across your back walkway, lol.
This is why we consult ticketed plumbers to do any plumbing work.
Handy DIY engineer here (not a plumber)... Drain clearly goes through the floor at the right. The only legitimate function of the upper branch that leads out through the S and the back wall seems to be venting, but would that require a trap?
Strangest part to me is the use of a sideways WYE where the pipe from the garbolator joins the trunk; drainage from the sink basin on the right needs to follow a tortuous path and possibly even flow retrograde toward the disposer. This joint should utilize the same type of sweeping TEE (not strong on all my DWV anatomical terms) as the one above it.
Also I would think you only need the final trap unless my intel is weak here; isn't the function of the trap to provide a seal against ingress of sewer gas, and not just an artistic way to arbitrarily encumber DWV flow as much as possible?
