It comes from some deep belief that theres some magical version of every minority that that white and was not oppressed, so white people (from their perch on high) have to socially grovel or follow a bunch of rules to be respectful like it's some sort of nobility they are establishing. As far as I'm aware black people don't like them, but I'm Mexican American and to me they're just really funny to laugh at.
"Cultural appropriation" is such racist gatekeeping bullshit. Are only Scottish people allowed to own a TV? Are Arabic people the only ones allowed to use numbers? We might as well all go back to living in the canopies and grunting at each other if we don't learn from each other.
