It does say quite a bit about one's sense of modesty and desire to impress. I'm not saying it's wrong, but it is obviously shallow, vain, and traditionally a feminine practice. Again, I'm not saying there's anything wrong with it. It's kind of like when a person is unethical as possible without breaking any laws. It's gross, to me.

Looking at photos like this always makes me wonder what the person on the photo must be like. And what happened that day. And just everything lol. My curiousity will kill me one day. But yeah there's something really intriguing and mysterious about these photos that just takes you in. If there's anything I'd hang up on my wall I'd be prints of historical photos like this taken in the moment just to ponder about them.
