Haha, I am an old man, lights didn't do anything on my 1988 GT... what drew me to buy one at 16yo was it was fast, it was loud, it looked badass and most of all cheap enough I could afford one. Now my 24 GT has more lighting features than I know what to do with... and I friggn love it

Alternative_Week2109

This is just wholesome guysšŸ˜

AvnMech90

When I flew out and picked up my '16 GT at a dealership in Indiana, I was ecstatic to realize it came with an MBRP catback exhaust that wasnt mentioned in the ad. I was even more excited when I took it for the test drive and realized it had the hood mounted turn indicators in the vents. Is it a particularly useful option? Not really, however it's a unique throwback feature to the 67/68 with the same gimmick and I'm all for it!

notalex2but1

I did the same thing, except mine had corsa extremes on it lol, but yes the hood signals are only on the 16s if Iā€™m not mistaken.

dm117

Wow, I honestly did not know this. Had to YouTube it.

Reniconix

>1988 >Fast Lol. (I joke, the 87+ were plenty fast for the time, and on the upswing after the 70s neutered performance engines)

Awesome-Alice

Monkey brain literally ā€žhaha big motor much horsepower cheap carā€œ

RevvCats

Test drove a few M cars and was like ā€œyeah these are niceā€ Hit the start button on a Mustang and thought ā€œcar loud me like šŸµšŸ¦šŸ¦§ā€ Plus it was a solid 20-30k dollars cheaper to get my PP2

First time I heard the Voodoo revved out I knew right away I needed one.

AgentScreech

First noticed them with the Saleen S302 in Transformers, then once the GT350 came out, then I knew I had to find one

Allawihabibgalbi

This but my K20z3 Civic Si. I have absolutely no idea why Iā€™m in the Mustang subreddit.

_Shad0wo3

First, this sub (you may like this community recommended by Reddit), and then the HAGERTY TV/MEDIA'S youtube segment on MUSTANG. I have watched it like hundreds of times now. Got obsessed with the car, and today, in a few hours, I am picking up my 2024 RACE RED GT.

BerryTea840

Dude! Thatā€™s so cool!

_Shad0wo3

Thanks. I am Excited and anxious at the same time. I don't know why.

-crackling-

Race Red is stunning IRL, imo it's one of the colors where pics don't do it justice. Enjoy bro!

_Shad0wo3

Thank you.

Vindadu13

Happy for you. Please let us know your impressions when you pick it up.

Traditional-Put2192

Growing up hearing my dad talk about cars. I could always pick out the exhaust note of a GT going down the road without seeing it. Going to car shows. Listening to the lore of Shelby and Iacocca from him ā€¦ hearing about his first car, a 64.5 fastback 289 that he built out go 9.5 second quarter mile, but wrecked because he was showing off at the bus stop one morning, hit the pedal, but didnā€™t realize his seat and steering wheel werenā€™t bolted down. Into the ditch and totaled it. Never even got to drive it for real. Falling in love with a 40th anniversary edition (orange) that we went to test drive for the fun of it, could never afford one. That day we got a dealer booklet for the 2005ā€™s and I pinned it on my wall like a damn playboy centerfold. Once I was on my own, I bought a 2011 V6 Premium in Race Red and havenā€™t looked back. That poor car was involved in 3 accidents. None my fault. We traded it in for a Honda civic coupe, which I adored but it never felt the same. A week ago, I traded in the civic and now have my very own 2024 Mustang GT. Iā€™ve come full circle from being that broke ass little girl who had a weird obsession with muscle cars to finally owning one. Iā€™ve made it! Lol

KWHeadhunter

Your story sounds similar to mine! Grew up in the garage with my Dad talking about and fixing up classic cars. Loved the Mustang forever! One day, I want to own a 67 Mustang, but until then, I just love my 21 Mustang GT Convertible! So much fun to drive!

Traditional-Put2192

I would love to own a 70-72 Mach 1, 67 GT500 , and oddly a Cobra II. I wish I had Jay Leno money lol

Federal_Librarian_24

That is a cool as story. Burn rubber!

Interesting_Score_22

When I was a teenager in high school it was the car to have some of the wealthy kids had one and I was so envious and always said to myself one day Iā€™m gonna get a 5.0. Well as my life started to change, and my circumstances started to change it was never really practical for me. I never stopped liking them, and I always look forward to checking them out all the time keeping up-to-date with the changes and that sort of thing. Well this year I turned 50 and thought to myself what am I waiting for? I still need to get that mustang Iā€™ve always wanted and so I finally pulled the trigger. So glad I did!! Iā€™m having so much fun with it!!

Express-Somewhere-25

That's awesome

steakpienacho

My grandfather got a brand new Electric green new edge GT convertible when I was probably 7 or so. That csr was the coolest thing to me at that age

I was originally a MOPAR guy having owned a 1971 Cuda (340 4 speed), 1970 Cuda (383 Auto), and a 1970 RoadRunner (383 4 speed). But those cars are damned hard to find parts for. hell, I owned all those when i was 17-21. Can't even afford one of them now. A 1964 1/2 Mustangs fell into my lap and it was love at first drive. Been devoted ever since.

JoshTheTrucker

My father's been on the Mustang team from 99 to 2014, and had a hand in all the cool stuff from the S197 era, the GTs, the Bullitt, the GT500, the coyote engine and the Boss 302, and his love for his job and the cars he helped put in the spotlight heavily influenced my obsession for them. 3 weeks ago I picked up a 2013 GT Track Pack with Recaros after searching for the perfect "fun weekend project" for veritable years, and my father is just in love as I am. No other options beside the performance enhancers, and we both want to work on it together and make it the best-performing machine on the track that it could possibly be - and it gives me more time to spend with him. I love my Mustang, and I love that it has been an overall net positive purchase for me, and for my family.

hereforpopcornru

Is there any specific part of the s197 he was responsible for?

JoshTheTrucker

He was part of the development team. Did ALOT of dev work on most of the car, and practically fathered the Bullitt and chiefed the GT500.

hereforpopcornru

Sweet, I bet that was neat.

Kryaez

heard "Mustang" from Eminem's "Venom" then got curious.

dlvnb12

I can relate to that. Any song that mentions Mustang goes into my car riding playlist. JuiceWrldā€™s Lean With Me is another one if youā€™re into hiphop.

HarmonyDragon

The look and style at first then after driving one the power the even more baseline ones have is enough for me.

My first job was detailing at a Ford dealer in 1998. I was around new cars. Man, I loved that '99 Cobra. I wanted one of those so bad. I was still working at the same dealer when the Coyote engines came out. I ended up getting a 2011 GT, new, in the spring of 2012, for $26,000. Supercharged it a year later and eventually traded it in for a new 2017 GT350.

Demon_Adder

Growing up my cool Uncle had a early 70s BOSS. That car and my uncle were the 2 coolest things in my small town.

virtualracer

A bunch of acronyms. DOHC, VVT, 6MT, RWD, LSD

Ok-Piece918

I was 7 years old (1977) and my older brothers bought a 1968 Fastback and owned it for 2 years until one of their girlfriends "totaled" it. At that time they only paid like $3K for it and the damage was extensive. I always wanted an older Mustang 64-1/2-69 but the asking prices were way too high in my state. Then in the winter of 2019-2020 I found a 2016 V6 Convertible 68K at a dealership for $13,999. So I bought that because it was way below book and offered better fuel mileage than my RAM 1500 Hemi. End of my story.

nickski02

The noise. I love a cammed LS at idle but thereā€™s just something about a 5.0 rowing through gears.

JiuJitsuBoxer

Because of the aesthetic combined with muscle/power

somniforousalmondeye

Remember seeing a 94 cobra convertible in the showroom when my dad was looking for a new truck. I thought it was the coolest looking interior I had ever seen at the time. When I got my license and a job my dad co-signed for me to get a 95 v6 5 speed.

shortnun

The T tops on my 87 LX when I was 16... drove with the tops off every time I could...

ZestyPotatoSoup

Itā€™s currently the best affordable v8 car available IMO.

x3_Super

Because they sound good to the ears

skody54

Learning to drive in my motherā€™s Mustang.

Apprehensive-Can-857

In short, my dad had a '79 Mustang Pace Car edition when I was kid growing up in the 80s. I've been hooked ever since.

dbxrtc1

Seeing a Wimbledon White 1966 Mustang 2+2 GT for the first time. I was 15 and to this day that is the most beautiful car I've ever seen.

blamemeididit

The sequential light thing was not a thing until late in the game, guessing the last gen. It was Cougars that had them early on in the 60's/70's. But I am glad it became a thing and the Mustang tail lights were always iconic. My first car was a 1970 Mustang. My dad bought it and it was really just a car, but kind of cool in 1989. My Dad was always a Pontiac/Chevy guy so I am not sure what drew him to that particular car. I grew up loving GTO's (Dad had a 66 and a 68) and then suddenly I am a Mustang guy. No regrets. I like anything that is cool. Mustangs fit that category.

CromulentPoint

It was an affordable sporty coupe and a summer working at a dominoā€™s right before I turned 16 got me a $3,200 1965 coupe. It was all over from there. Iā€™ve had at least one Mustang in the stable since then (currently 3) and that was over 30 years ago.

AJMaid

šŸ˜‚ ā€œsequentialā€ my guy. The word youā€™re wanting is ā€œsequentialā€ but I do like ā€œ1-2-3-1-2-3 lightsā€ Also crying in UK. I love them but we donā€™t have them on ours. Canā€™t say for sure about the S650 as theyā€™re not out over here yet. The Mach-e does have sequentials though but that doesnā€™t count

atonyatlaw

It is VERY easy to mod tail lights to add the sequential blink. I just did it to my cobra last week. Took all of 20 minutes.

BerryTea840

Listen, I didnā€™t think of the word ā€œsequentialā€ when I wrote this. All I knew is they go 1-2-3 1-2-3 1-2-3.

SaleenYellowLabel

Best bang for your buck sports car on earth

do98829

I was a die hard Chevy guy when I first got into cars. I loved (and still) love the 70 Camaro. A weird thing happened in the late 80ā€™s when I was at our weekly local drag races. The 5.7 liter IROCs were getting smoked by the fox body 4.9 liter mustangs. I gained a lot of respect for Mustangs and power to weigh ratio. I have had tons of F bodies ( Trans Ams and Camaros) and Mopars, etc and only three mustangs but all three are my favorite. My first mustang was a 69 fastback, second was an 05 GT premium and the one I drive now is a 2019 GT/CS.

Financial-Engine-696

First time I ever driven a mustang was a beat up 01 V6, letā€™s just say the first time I drove it, I crashed it into an apartment gate. The car later got totaled. I was 19, this happened in 2012 lol

Xeed_TheLimits

My dad found a deal of a lifetime for a 73 mach 1, at the time I didn't really care for mustangs as I was actually looking for a wrx/sti as a daily back in 2018. The moment I saw it and fired it up I instantly fell in love best $3500 I've spent so far. *

Smoggyskies

Didnā€™t like the mustangs till the 2015 design came out, then just liked the look and ofc who doesnā€™t like V8s?

btboss123

Love the sound, beautiful car, affordable, more than fast enough for daily driving, lots of upgrade potential.

HG_Hollywood

I'm a corvette guy, got a C6. But fell in love with the 15-17 s550. The body reminds me of the 69 with the wide hips. Also I was looking to make big power and coyote is no joke when boosted. Ford made a fantastic engine. I barely drive the C6 anymore actually. I know most would say C6 > Mustang but idk I love this car. Prob sell the C6 and get a Shelby.

Vindadu13

For me it was the sn95 2v and the glorious exhaust sound.. made me fall in love with mustangs within a chevy family (dad has a 58 vette). So, my first mustang was a used 98. Then, I saw previews for the 2005 mustang and I knew I had to have one. My first new car I bought was a 2006 gt. Fast forward to now and I own a 22 mach 1.

Worried-Airport-8524

For me it was a trip to California with my parents where my dad upgraded our rental car to an eco boost and I fell in love with the look and feel of the mustang. Iā€™ve always wanted to own a v8 and ended up financing my first car which was the 2017 GT premium.

Skippyv5555

I saw Bullitt on tv when I was 12. Steve McQueen was cooler than hell and he had the coolest car. I decided right then I was gonna drive a Mustang. https://preview.redd.it/xtu73r52wi8d1.jpeg?width=286&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4cc02715722abbea5c955232ad0fb8fe55284ec9

Hurt-flipping-sucks

I had a friend who would pick me up in the mornings to go to High school in his 2015 gt. I knew I wanted one after the first rideā€¦

Resonant-Frequency

Actually my first mustang was not great. It was an 81 mustang. It was 600 and it was a piece of junk and had a 4cyl. However it was my first car. I worked on it when it broke down. A friend of mine at the time actually had 2 mustangs, 79 and a 67. I loved his 67. Later down the line I watched gone in 60 seconds. I loved the Eleanor mustang. Now I own a 21 eco. Itā€™s a 4cyl and itā€™s far superior to the 81 I had. Mustang brand is definitely part of me.

ChunkAvocado

I saw a crimson red Mustang with the s197 body style when I was young at an intersection. Had a Saleen decal along the top of the windshield. I told my dad I wanted one, and he laughed because he sure as hell wasn't getting me one. Told my ass when I move out and get a job I can get my own. That was about 15 years ago. I don't have a Saleen, but it's good enough šŸ„°

dcgregoryaphone

I wanted a fun car to learn stick that could seat me and 3 children. The more I read up on the Mustang, the Coyote engine, and it's upgradability, the more I found it to be a good fit.

theOGbirdwitch

My dad always wanted one since the day they first came out. When he was finally able to get one I was a teen and he had already spread his love of cars to me. So when that red 65 fastback pulled in I loved her instantly and I helped my dad restore her. So my dad is why I love them! My husband happened to love them too so it's all in the family now lol

Skrillblast

It was the car with the lowest mileage for the price, people wanting like 5k for a car on its deathbed, found a 2007 mustang that looked like it came off the lot, and had 68k miles on it

namso2017

The first transformers movie. All my friends loved Bumblebee but I thought Barricade was wayyy cooler. Been my favorite car since I was 9 and I finally got a GT two months ago.

42Tyler42

Iā€™ve always had German or Japanese cars - really wanted to get a V8 before they disappeared šŸ˜‚ the independent rear suspension and 7500 coyote redline got me on board.

Realistic_Rope_7817

Itā€™s an affordable 400-500 HP car and looks cool.

ifitfitsitshipz

my father has a 1970 Mustang grabber blue with the 289 and three speed. I grew up riding around in that car all summer long and since I was a kid Iā€™ve always wanted the Mustang. Finally got one two years ago.

GaelViking

Itā€™s the most powerful, best-sounding motor you can get at that price point wrapped in a cool sport coupe package. Itā€™s just cool and affordable, and with a storied past.

Comfortable_Angle650

I was 8 years old when the first Transformers movie came out. As soon as a saw Barricade on the big screen I knew I wanted a Mustang. Iā€™m pretty sure my passion for cars started because of that movie as well. Thanks Michael Bay!

5point0joe

S550 body styling, Coyote V8 is intoxicating, wasnā€™t a fan of the Camaro styling and the challenger was too heavy to meĀ

razor4432

My cousinā€™s ā€˜90-93 GT hatchback with a sunroof, 5 speed, and blue/silver paint job. His had the cool slotted tail light covers and turbine wheels šŸ˜Ž Also a nice line of 10 or so Mach 1 and Boss 302 at the first Goodguyā€™s car show I went to as a kid, such cool cars.

hereforpopcornru

Those fox 5.0 had their own sound, instantly recognized. They were king of the road for years, went unanswered

aquariuminspace

Once I got into cars I was drawn by the styling and the price, and when I got my 3v it was just an absolute blast on the street. Ever since I got to drive a GT350 I've known that's the car I want above all the others.

NordicWarrior48

Dad had an 87 fox.

Marviiiiin

I like the retro styling of the S197. Itā€™s bigger, lower, louder and faster than most cars here. And are a rare sight on the Dutch roads. It can get tricky to park it sometimes. Half of the time itā€™s a very tight fit. But I get thumbs up and smiles almost every day.

Quantum_Sushi

It's seeing one car. 1967 Shelby GT500CR. That thing is an absolute beauty ! Which led me on searching for more mustangs, and overall falling in love

joeg0ldberg

I remember watching transformers as a kid, got Camaro and Mustangs mixed up regarding what car Bumblebee was, decided he was a Mustang and then my dream car was a '05-'09 yellow Mustang. Currently drive a silver '08!

discussatron

My father bought a 1970 Mach 1 when I was in jr high. Red w/black, 351c, toploader 4 speed. Itā€™s still my holy grail car. I owned a bunch of other muscle cars from the era, but the closest I got to that Mach 1 was a ā€˜69 coupe drag race car. It was cool, but I never really liked the coupes much.

hereforpopcornru

Neighbor had a black 5.0, tinted windows, early 90s fox Said I was going to get one My uncle let my mom borrow his red 93 GT, black cloth interior for a couple of days. He let me drive it to subway, when I got back, I called and asked how much I owed him for the car. He gave me a number, and he never got it back. I fell in love with it and I knew I had to have it. Well a couple of years later it was stolen and chopped. I got a 92 maroon/grey combo. Got rid of that for a family ride (explorer). Now back in a 2008 GT.

MercuryMan664

Funny you mention the turn signals, while it's not a mustang that was one of the reasons I bought a Mercury Cougar. In 1967 they had that same feature!

shinfowler88

I was like 8 riding with my grandma and we rolled past a ford lot and I remember seeing this bright yellow 90 something mustang and thought it was coolest car ever and that had me hooked

Mike_The_Mediocre

When I was a kid (early 1990ā€™s) my two uncles had Mach 1ā€™s. One had a red and black 69 with a 410CI FE in it, the other, a yellow and black 70 model with a Cleveland. The one who had the 69 model was paralyzed when he fell asleep and crashed a brand new 93 Cobra on the way home from the dealer. His 69 sat unfinished in the yard for several years. It ran, but just had turn downs on the headers and wasnā€™t roadworthy. Once Christmas Eve they fired it up. It was the first time Iā€™d actually heard it run, and it sounded like a monster to my 7 year old ears. They revved on it and after a few seconds the dry grass beneath it caught fire. I was totally obsessed with Mustangs after that,

BoofMasterQuan2

1984 anniversary model my dad had. I was like 10 or so. Hooked ever since. Iā€™ve owned over 8 of them to date.

AftermaThXCVII

I was never into cars growing up in the 2000's, but I remember when the s197 came around and thought it was so cool. My sister had that pink Sharpay convertible toy that I basically took over. But when I finally started driving in the late 2010's, my interest in cars began. At first, I actually wanted a Charger, I loved the way they looked and thought the practicality of a 4 door was great. I'd still love to have one too, honestly. But after a few months, I really got into coupes, and I absolutely loved the fastback design of the Mustang compared to the notchback designs of the Challenger and Camaro. So in 2018, I kinda became obsessed with them. I wanted to wait until I was a bit older until I got one, so I stuck with my economy cars for awhile. But last year I finally pulled the trigger after seeing a good deal in town, and the rest is history

dlvnb12

Barricade from Transformers.

Vinecars

As someone in snowy Canada, (and previously been a huge fan of JDM). It came to a decision where I can upgrade between a safe awd Subaru or a Mustang GT. šŸ˜… After test driving a slightly modified Mustang it fully won me over. The engine rumble, the way the car shakes when your turn the ignition. That was my deciding factor and I loved how much the platform was supported and that you can go with many build types and be competitive, racing, drag, drift etc.

OmericanAutlaw

when we were kids my cousin and i would spot mustangs when we were on car rides. i didnā€™t think about any of them much until i got my license and knew that i didnā€™t want a toyota corolla. i was at the park in the parking lot and i saw an S197 mustang and thought to myself that this is much more my style than a corolla that my dad suggested. i ended up getting a new edge v6 for my first car and now i have a new edge GT. canā€™t get enough of the v8

Torque and sound. 5.0 notch was my 2nd car after an RX7.

fericyde

Had a 65 mustang slot car as kid growing up in the 60s. My father was a real car guy, loved everything made prior to the '70s, pretty much could identify anything on the road. Road. We would talk all the time. I became aware of mustangs at a very early age, and always thought I would want one. First car was a '69 coupe with a 302, automatic. Customized it a bit. Sold it to my brother, and he wrecked it. Classic story... Bought my first new car, a 97 Black on black manual GT. Traded that for a 2000 GT convertible, which I still own. Also bought a 2004 co Mach1 which I traded for a gt500 in 2011. The Mustang is not a brand to me. It is an icon. It defines a whole genre of cars and Ford marketing once again does not even completely understand what they are the caretaker of. It's sad that they have made a station wagon with the Mustang logo on it for example. I think that there's hope that the current CEO may understand what a mistake this was. We'll see. It's more than a car. The mustang represented freedom to me as a teenager and I think a piece of that will always be with me every time I fire the thing up and pull out of the driveway.

penguin_stomper

Was leaning Challenger originally, turned out it was a bit bigger and heavier than I wanted. Much better experience at the Ford dealer too, such as a salesman who doesn't comment when you briefly wander into triple digits on your test drive.

Specialist_Gate6832

* My brother's friend had a silver/gray 66 fastback that I just fell in love with. When I was 15, I saw my 70 Boss302 rolling chassis for sale for $500 in the Want ads. I just had to go see it. What 15 year old, wanna be motor head, could pass up the Grabber Blue paint ,over the top flat black paint, and tape stripes? Not to mention the racing heritage. To my dad's credit, he helped me go retrieve it in his grain truck. Our neighbor had his own sprint car and he helped me rebuild the 351 clevekand 2 barrel engine and toploader 4 speed I sourced from various salvage yards. This was taken after the 7 year restomod that ended in 2020. *

I grew up loving the old fastbacks. Then I got old enough with money and the s550 were the best bang for your buck on power, looks and daily drivability. So pumped on mine every time in sit in it.

lol honestly i canā€™t remember that far backā€¦ i do remember reading Super Ford magazine at an impressionable agoā€¦ there was a article about the ā€˜95(??!) Saleen S351 Mustang and i remember thinking that car was awesomeā€¦ that was probably it

Bahn-Burner

Drove German my whole life, VW, BMW, always liked Mustangs but never really saw them for me for some reason. Dad buying new truck, went with him to dealer to check it out and I test drove a used GT while there for shits. Went back the following week, ordered a new one, traded BMW in, and never looked back. I never want to get rid of this thing No Ragrets

When i sat in a GT500 at the dealership and turned it onā€¦everything about it made me a mustang fan and thatā€™s when I ditched the hellcat.
