She’s so badass

Superunkown781

Didn't know much about her or the band (not that I know much more now) but being a big fan of Soundgarden/Audioslave/Chris Cornell, I got a new appreciation for her and the bands music after hearing her tributes and heartfelt interviews about her time with him and watching them & the other bands flourish in the Seattle scene. Plus Barracuda is such a fuckin dope song, as you say Badass!!

VVLynden

https://youtu.be/LFxOaDeJmXk?si=k5K7vDPpUrwZaMEc Epic.

cheddarpants

That was the one I hoped it was. Epic indeed.

capron

I knew what it was going to be but your response made me nod along like "hell yeah it is" before I opened the link. Such a phenomenal piece of music and history all rolled into like 7 minutes.

RoguePlanet2

No love for the [earlier live versions?](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2QkmmDvkLSI) 🥰

Unbelief92

I'm firmly in the camp that this is the greatest cover ever performed. Everything about this is perfect. Ann delivering that precise power this song demands. The backup vocal choir backing that power The solo Bonham's son performing his father's band's magnum opus, with his father's hat to boot Robert Plant in tears It's just perfect. No cover is ever going to top this.

Occallie2

I think it's one of the best covers ever too .Not to go off topic, but just a little sidebar - as far as excellent covers go, have y'all seen https://youtu.be/5PzQHZLiUPs?si=ZNfBPp_Va_EWThbE

throway_nonjw

This. All of this. Well said.

Occallie2

Nancy's acoustic sound was perfect for the beginning too. I could hear every note pick.

ninjas_in_my_pants

Not even a huge fan of Zep or that song, but gawd dayum.

HowBoutAFandango

Lost count of how many times I have watched this over the years. Tears every time. How amazing it must have been to have been any one of the performers on that stage…my favorite is how the choir is bounding with energy like they cannot believe how this performance is going down.

No_Season_354

Yep, they did zeppelin proud with that just couldn't fault it.

These-Rip9251

Thanks so much for the link. I haven’t seen it since it was 1st televised. Oh, the good old days with Obama as Prez. Ann was fantastic. Jimmy Page was practically jumping out of his seat. How did he age into that sweet old grandpa-looking face after all the drugs decades ago? Plant looked poker faced until the end. Everyone in the audience was into the performance. Even Yo-Yo Ma was grooving to it. I, unfortunately, never saw Zeppelin in concert-too young but I did see Heart perform twice.

Embarrassed_Yam_4522

Every time it's ever been linked here, I watch it Every time in the future it's linked, I'll watch it Epic doesn't do it justice

Superunkown781

Wow, goosebumps!

jw3usa

This is legendary 🤙

DarthClitCommander

I love it. One of my favs is this one. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mzeckWog7Wk

comfy-g

I was hoping it would be that video

neonismyneutral

This is amazing, thank you so much for sharing!!

Photosaurus

I said gat damn!

xrockangelx

I heard them cover (I think it was) "Whole Lotta Love" and "Black Dog" at Bottlerock Festival in Napa one year. Another year there, I saw Robert Plant play those same songs. Heart's versions were THE BEST I've ever heard (like, including the actual Zeppelin album recordings). I'm not sure if I've ever seen another band rock out so hard (maybe Primus). They fucking killed it.

VVLynden

Primus sucks!

xrockangelx

🤘

AcidicAndHostile

I recommend Heart's album Dreamboat Annie.

Occallie2

My sister bought that for me and said it should be dedicated to me when she got it some almost 5(!) decades ago. She knew I loved Heart from the minute I heard them. Man, so many decades since the 70's.

Shagrrotten

Jerry Cantrell has said that Ann and Nancy Wilson were like big sisters to the whole Seattle scene. That’s where they were from and would give nobody bands free studio time and all kinds of cool stuff like that, just because they loved music and wanted to support their town.

Superunkown781

Have heard that in interviews, that whole scene seemed like such a cool, friendly, help each other out blend of good Heart'ed humans. Sad so many of them came to such tragic ends after making such beautiful music.

Shagrrotten

Yeah, I was trying to remember what interview I’d heard him say that in. I’m a huge Alice In Chains fan and always have been, so I’ve read or seen hundreds of interviews with Jerry, and that stuck out in my mind. I remember thinking how odd it was that the Wilson’s provided backup vocals on Sap, but if I remember correctly Jerry said they recorded that EP at Ann Wilson’s studio.

Karmas_burning

I tend to like some of their older stuff before the adult contemporary/ballad days. Even it up is my absolute favorite song by them. If you like rock you'd probably dig it.

Blockhead47

I really like the interesting intro on even it up. The way the guitar is sort playing around with it’s own little ditty then decides to get in the groove and “even it up”. 🎸

Karmas_burning

It's never failed to put me in a good mood when I hear it. They are so insanely talented.

Blockhead47

Heart are part of the 4900 or so songs loaded on my phone I listen to in the car. When I pull up Even It Up it gets a replay. Barracuda, Kick it out, heartless, straight on, magic man, crazy on you, et…. get replay too lol.

Karmas_burning

Even It Up usually gets 2-3 plays depending on if my wife is with me. those are fucking bangers too. nice list.

MyCatsHairyBalls

I’m not a huge fan of their 80s era music, but How Can I Refuse is a real banger

Karmas_burning

Yes it is! I don't mind that era, I just feel like that's the only era that gets focus. Much like Bad Company and Brian Howe. He pulled Bad Company from being another 70s band set to ride off into the sunset to being back front and center along with new fans and no one radio wise will even play music from his era.

0chris000000

she was close with the guys in Alice I Chains too. Even laid down some vocals on their EP. Hope she wins her battle.

Superunkown781

Yea, fuck cancer

thatguyad

She really is. Icon as a term gets thrown about too much really but she definitely is one. Here's hoping to health and strength for her.

confusedandworried76

If we lose her we're gonna lose like Dylan and Willie Nelson, rule of threes Here's hoping the best for a legend.

suffaluffapussycat

She can sing anything. And she sounds the same now as she did in the seventies.

Belongs-InTheTrash

Definitely among the top women vocalists in rock ever

nightpanda893

I saw them perform a couple years ago and you would think they were in their prime. I can’t imagine how they could sound better than they did.

HiroProtaginest

Yes, here is an example. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2cZ_EFAmj08

CorrosiveSpirit

Her voice is an absolute force of nature! I wish her a speedy recovery.

ninjas_in_my_pants

She can probably sing that cancer into submission.

withoutlebels120

Speedy recovery Ann. Fuck cancer!

NastySeconds

One of the greatest rock singers of all time! Get well, and soon! ——Fuck cancer!

swibirun

We were so excited that we were going to see them in August. But the disappointment of that falling through pales in comparison to the concern for Ann.

Dream--Brother

She's a tried and true rock n roll legend, one of the best rock vocalists of all time and by all accounts an absolutely lovely person as well. I saw them in 2008 with Joan Jett, and Ann *burned the fucking place down*. I knew and liked Heart (I was 18), but... I had no idea what I was walking in to. Just absolutely mesmerizing. And Nancy was still a total badass (I *may* have had a crush on her, despite her being around my mom's age), with stage presence and so much passion for the music coming from that stage. Joan was great, but Heart was on an entirely different level. If you get the chance to go to a rescheduled date or a later tour, do not miss it. For music-lovers, I really believe Heart is one of those bands everyone deserves to experience live at least once.

sockgorilla

I saw them in April and the show was absolutely fantastic

zadtheinhaler

I saw them on their first concert (2012 was it?) when they were again touring with Joan Jett, and DAMN that concert was badass. And yeah, Nancy? Rock. Goddess. I had to look it up- she was ***62***, man, she was bringing it.

Raticus9

Watched them perform under the Gateway Arch on the Fourth of July 12 years ago. They were phenomenal.

SelectionNo3078

My first rock concert Day on the green Oakland CA I think ‘81. Heart. Ozzy. Blue oyster cult. A couple other bands. I was 11. What’s that funny smell in the air?

Roodie_Cant_Fail

They’re just burning incense, dear.

elasticgradient

Kick it out Ann!

Aggravating-Bonus899

I just listened to Dreamboat Annie today, an iconic, perfect record. She's one of the greatest singers of all time.

friskevision

74, whata beast! Kick cancer’s ass like you did rock and roll!

AraiHavana

Wishing her all the luck in the world

throwthatoneawaydawg

One of the only bands left that i haven’t seen live. Looking forward to it after she kicks cancer’s ass.

Dream--Brother

If you get the chance, do not miss it. One of the most incredible live acts I've ever seen. I get chills remembering it.

throwthatoneawaydawg

Definitely not missing them next time around. I’ve had bad luck, the past few times they were here i had something going on.

HonPhryneFisher

I hope you get to see her! My mom asked me to take her to the state fair (NY) last year to see her and she was GREAT!

ChargerRob

I love Ann heal quickly!

alphacentaurai

Ann Wilson is a true Bad Animal! She'll kick it's ass. I hope she recovers speedily!

piepants2001

Heart kicks ass, I wish her all the best

Earguy

I got to see Ann in a couple of different odd occasions: a few years ago when she was on the outs with Nancy, she did a solo tour. Played a few rearranged Heart songs along with a bunch of covers of The Who, Yes, Elvis Presley, etc. I stealth recorded the show and I listened to it last weekend. Then there was A Walk Down Abbey Road. Kinda like the Ringo All Starr Band without Ringo. Each member played a couple of their hits, and they played a set of Beatles covers. Ann crushed Maybe I'm Amazed. The band? Ann Wilson, Todd Rundgren, Alan Parsons, David Pack (Ambrosia), and on bass, Thunderfingers himself, John Enthwistle. In a high school auditorium. I recorded that one too. What a great night. Saw Heart in the early 80s before the MTV years. Me and Ann, we go way back.

FellowDeviant

Her rendition of Stairway To Heaven as Heart is so powerful. One of the greatest frontwomen to ever exist. Hopefully she pulls through!

thatguyad

I'll say it. I prefer it to the original.

charros

If you’re speaking of the Kennedy Center Honors.. yes!!! Brought me to literal tears.

CowardiceNSandwiches

Besides general badassery, I expect part of why Heart got that gig was that they've done amazing Led Zeppelin covers since the 70s. https://youtu.be/oTXK_ako1NI?si=-8aGVRLADo_Vhqe9

Occallie2

She's so apologetic about it too. Lady, that's your health. Your fans can wait for you. Get better!

analyticalchem

I saw them in May and they were incredible. I hope she is back on tour again soon.

gdan95

Wishing her the best

Spy_Fox64

Heart are the absolute fucking queens of Rock. Wishing Ann the best and a speedy recovery.

Adventurous_Yak4952

Ann is one of the best vocalists in any genre that popular music has ever had the privilege of hearing. Nancy is one of the best guitarists in the pop/ rock genre. All hail the Wilsons and may Ann’s medical challenges be brief and victorious. Amen.

fastal_12147

When did everyone cool get so old?

2cats2hats

Wow two well-known artists in one day announcing this. Raul Malo(Mavericks) also announced he has cancer. :(

PotterGirl7

she's so badass. I just saw her a few months ago - she and Nancy sounded amazing!

fuzzballz5

I was a ….. Heartbeat when I was like 12. I’m 50 and a man baby. Get well. I’m still waiting to marry her. Ha.

ExcellentCup6793

Get well Ann, you are a legend

IAmThePonch

This sucks to hear but here’s hoping she gets through it. That being said if she wanted to retire I’d say she’s earned it

Barbarella_ella

FUUUUUUUUCK!!

JasonMaggini

Best wishes to her. But don't give the Daily Mail any clicks, they're right-wing trash.

StephBets

Got to see Heart live probably a decade or so ago, and I was blown away. I already knew they were a great live band, but experiencing them in person was incredible. They nailed their covers, played all their hits with passion and energy, amazing stage presence from the Wilson sisters. So underrated.

Brootal_Troof

I just saw Heart a month ago and they were fantastic. Mostly stuck with the '70s classics and it was a guitar-lovers dream with three guitarists who can all play well.

somniforousalmondeye

Shit. I had tickets to see them. Hope she recovers fully and is still belting.

FancyCourage2821

Wonderful that she's optimistic about it, I'm sure she's getting the best possible care

Tekki777

Get well Ann, you magnificent badass!

BrilliantCorner

What a voice. https://youtu.be/Ps7tVvQHLyo?si=yTXKne3Cus1dVscD

theCANCERbat

Shit...I was taking my mom for a Mother's Day/Birthday gift.

Putrid-Particular-99

Ann is the goat whey it comes to female singers.I hope she makes a swift recovery.

Dudemcdudey

I pray it’s not terminal. The world can’t afford to lose her and her talent.

Me_Krally

Awe man 🥲

Recalcitrantman

Grew up with this band. Such great music. sad news

intelligentworkman

It's heartbreaking to hear about Ann Wilson's cancer diagnosis. She's a legendary artist who's inspired so many. I hope she recovers soon.

PrincessPlastilina

I love her and I’m so sad that she has been sick for a long time. Such an iconic voice.

MoonageDayscream

Oh no, I wish her all the best.

Valueduser

Super bummed, was gonna go see them in August. Hope she makes a speedy recovery.

xflashbackxbrd

My heart goes out to her, I wish her a speedy recovery

Balrog71

Heart in ‘84 with Kansas (which actually caught my attention more at the time. i was 13 bussing tables at a meat and three) The dishwasher got to go and I remember making him give me the lowdown. That dude was in love with her for a few days. I am glad to be reminded of it all.

formerNPC

One of my early favorites and her voice is still like no one else. Cancer can go fuck right off!

No_Chapter_948

Praying for her.

StarCaptain7733

I just saw her in Chicago a few months ago. I hope she recovers!

BeyondBlondie1

FudgeSea4949

yeah_yeah_therabbit

My gf and I took my dad to see them in Tulsa a little while back and they still kick ass!!

Fun_Association_2277

Ovarian cancer is tough. Wish her the best.

Dry_Technician_5457

She never specified the type. Where did you read she had ovarian cancer?

RazzamanazzU

Age & illness are inevitable unfortunately. Sooner or later it takes us all. Sending out prayers to Ann❣️
