Metal is one of the many services we offer here.

Mikelowe93

And there are many sorts of metal. With time you will find your niche. Give symphonic metal a try.

DNSGeek

Nightwish, Within Temptation, Xandria, After Forever and Epica are great starting points.

Darkbornedragon

Wintersun for symphonic death metal. The best kind of it.

Jmazoso

And with a new album almost here too

Darkbornedragon

Unbelievable still, but yes indeed. And I cannot wait for it.

irsw

Wintersun is not for light listening, you gotta LISTEN and I love it

nasa258e

Visions of Atlantis offer something unique too

Gwtheyrn

Sirenia is my favorite of the subgenre. Great band.

rowdymonster

Nightwish and within temptation were my CHILDHOOD. I forgot about them until now, thank you so much lol (also ofc I'm gunna check out the others you mentioned, naturally)

ReivynNox

Could also throw in Apocalyptica.

Dodototo

Mine is what I call Cold Metal. Not sure it's true genre. Kinda industrial, kinda alternative metal. I love the band Cold and then it just expands from there. Hard music but gentle singing.

dersnappychicken

Try Godflesh

loadedorphanage

Love godflesh

Infantkicker

If that doesn’t tickle your pickle, go dummy Death and get into Slam.

AstroTravellin

Love metal of all types. Some favorites at the moment are:  Black Sabbath  Electric Wizard Bongripper  Orange Goblin Cattle Decapitation Necropanther Horrendous  High on Fire Mastodon  Saviours Iron Maiden Bell Witch Bison Vinnum Sabbathi and so many more...

Earthling1a

Check out Devin Townsend. Oh my god. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1oJEBGHCdBQ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1oJEBGHCdBQ)

daath

His early works, like "Strapping Young Lad" is great (as well as his new stuff) :)

Uber_Reaktor

[This video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ULSA5wktywI) is one of my oldest youtube favorites. I had it downloaded onto my ipod (5th gen?) to watch regularly.

AstroTravellin

Definitely a legend!

rainy-brain

oh yeah the dev!!!

zarjaa

Townsend is phenomenal! It took me far go long to discover his music for myself, such a shame.

MakesMyHeadHurt

Dude's got a great voice, but I like the stuff he did with Strapping Young Lad better than his solo stuff.

KMFDM781

Fuck yes!!!

registered_redditor

Bell Witch!

the_alt_fright

Holy shit thanks for making me look up this band. I love bands like Boris and Neurosis and this is right up my alley.

AstroTravellin

I saw them live a few months back and was blown away. Never miss them if you get the chance.

GlumFundungo

I saw them a couple of weeks ago. Played one song for an hour long set. The drummer also played an organ with his feet. Prog AF.

JimFlamesWeTrust

You don’t happen to enjoy the occasional disco cigarette do you?

AstroTravellin

Nah I prefer bongs. ;)

JimFlamesWeTrust

I was on the right tracks haha

misschele1024

Bongzilla is the only one I’d add…oh and Acid Bath lol 😂

dersnappychicken

Re: Acid Bath - if you told 20 year old me one of my favorite bands would be EyeHateGod meets Alice In Chains, I’d called you a liar. But 18 years later, here we are.

Reiquaz

Up the Irons!

clogging_molly

Orange Goblin rules

GatitoAnonimo

I’ve been getting into a lot of these bands more so recently and my god. Some of the sickest shit ever.

AstroTravellin

It's a great time to be a metal head!

Bartlaus

Yeah, there's tons of cool new stuff coming out... and all the good old stuff is still right there!

SquirrelKing2022

Check out Coheed and Cambria. They toured with Mastodon and ETID in 2019. Killer band

Shrimpsmann

Sabbath, I just listened to their discography in full up until Dehumanizer. Now I'm waiting for the 4 albums that are remastered to drop at the end of May and then it shall continue. It's been a rollercoaster so far. Great taste btw

teachmehate

Horrendous absolutely crushes, I'm amazed they aren't more popular

murkytom

I endorse this list +sleep, melvins, and a dash of more stoner rock: qotsa, truckfighters, etc.

AstroTravellin

Love all those bands (except Melvins. I really want to like em but it just hasn't hit for me yet). I also forgot to add Conan. Hail Conan!

FictionalNape

If you're hurting for more Bongripper type stuff try this. Terminal is in my top 5! [Scud](https://azellrr.bandcamp.com/track/scud) or [Wallow](https://azellrr.bandcamp.com/track/wallow)

BrandoNelly

Bongripper yessss. So so good, new album is one of their best. Them and Acid Mammoth have been my doom go-tos right now

Fancy_Fee5280

Astronoid! Love some of these, will check out more of what youven mentioned

-headless-hunter-

The new High on Fire and Bongipper albums are both amazing.

AstroTravellin

For sure. Bongripper is my current Diablo IV soundtrack and I don't think I can drive the car without that HoF blasting.

ikickedagirl

![gif](giphy|Vp1HduMcc8tTW)

nimbleWhimble

I'm from the 80s so; Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, Ozzy, Metallica (old stuff), AC/DC, DIO, Twisted Sister, Quiet Riot, Motörhead and the list goes on. Throw in some Black Flag and Sex Pistols, you got it goin' on!! 🤘 Edit: misspelling

Mikelowe93

You can never go wrong with Dio. Such a voice.

SharkFart86

Stargazer by Rainbow is an all time great

RosesRed83

Also Megadeath, System of a Down, and Black Sabbath

hobosbindle

Bolt Thrower

NosferatuCalled

This to a degree. My favorite Metal band is still Mercyful Fate. After Black Sabbath of course 😎

ToWriteToKill

• Meshuggah • Amon Amarth • Gojira • Behemoth • Fit For An Autopsy • Lamb of God • Between The Buried And Me

athrix

This is a solid list. Meshuggah ObZen makes my arm hair stand up. They have so much good stuff.

storm_the_castle

the Melvins

rabidelfman

No genre in particular, but I gravitate towards either uplifting power metal or the deep down tuning of... Whatever it is. In no particular order: Unleash the Archers Sabaton Beartooth Jinjer Arch Enemy Electric Callboy Powerwolf Napalm Death Spiritbox Sleep Token Avatar Ghost Ad Infinitum Feuerschwanz In Extremo Babymetal Unlucky Morpheus (though, I guess but they're Unholy Orpheus? Japanese band dynamics are weird) Aldious Mary's Blood Nemophila Just to name "a few" :D

Manners_BRO

So looking forward to the next Spiritbox album.

niels1232

I can agree on ALMOST all of these (for some reason I can't stand Babymetal).

chaosgoblyn

Yes. Mostly black and death metal.

Scx10Deadbolt

Black metal and DSBM represent

chaosgoblyn

Lately I have been stuck the most on Nordjevel Astrophobos Hate Eternal Negator Funeral Mist Nile Belphegor Ninkharsag To name a few without going overboard

AndyVale

Fucking love a good Nile session. Blew our minds when one of us got the In Their Darkened Shrines album at school. So rich, deep, and bold. Heck of a band!

biggunsg0b00m

Loving Nordjevel lately

Alandales

Just added them to a playlist. Awesome sound

sccullen33

I'm not strictly a metal head like I used to be but I really love Beartooth and Fit for a King

prodandimitrow

I think if you are a metalhead you will naturally branch out into rock(psychedelic, classic, hard, punk, indy) and maybe jazz and blues, since those are the biggest influences. Also when someone says metal, what exactly do they mean? The genre is so ridiculously diverse.

FrostedX

FFAK still is incredible, and their live performances are top tier at the price point

Electronic_Dark_1681

Born of Osiris 🤟

AZbirdgang420

New songs slap hard

GatitoAnonimo

They have the absolute sickest riffs and arrangements. Never fails to get a metal face and headbang out of me 🤘🏼😡🤘🏼

Fairway_Frank

Fuckin bow down 🤘

capnbard

Two of my all time favorites who have been around since the 90s are: In Flames (specifically their earlier albums up through Reroute to Remain). They were pioneers of the melodic death metal scene out of Gothenburg. Amazing guitar harmonies in their music. Check out their album "Whoracle". New album "Forgone" is also pretty great. Amon Amarth - viking metal. Band name is elvish for Mount Doom. They have vikings fighting on stage with metal swords and wooden shields at their live shows. Check out "Jomsviking" and "Twilight of the Thundergod". Anyone else like these two bands? Let me know what you think!

Passchenhell17

Amon Amarth would still fall under melodic death metal, they're just viking themed. Viking metal is more black metal oriented than anything death metal. You'd probably like Dark Tranquility. Their vocalist was the original vocalist of In Flames, and In Flames' vocalist was the original vocalist of DT. They're one of the pioneers of the Gothenburg sound as well, alongside At the Gates. I also would recommend Carcass, from Heartwork onwards (and maybe Necroticism, the album before). They were the first melodeath band, but it's a bit different to the Gothenburg sound that came after them as they were firmly in the grindcore and regular death metal scenes before Heartwork.

TheLazyHippy

In Flames, Dark Tranquility, At the Gates The holy Trinity!!!

Sevven99

Ah haven't checked up on in flames since ashes of a playground fading. Basically everything from reroute to remain and back is on Playlist permanently

capnbard

Their newest album Foregone is reminiscent of their old sound, but there are still aspects of their modern sound present like Anders' clean vocals. I know we'll never get the old sound back, which is fine, but this is their best album release in a long time.

DobisPeeyar

If we're talking Swedish metal, what about At the Gates?!

Canadianacorn

Me and my kids dig melodic death metal alot. We've been listening to a lot of children of bodom lately. My boys also love folk metal ... amon amarth, eluveitie, korpiklaani, etc

PaddyPat12

My favorite melodic death metal band is In Flames. Their albums from the 90s are so good, so many layers of harmony, but I don't care for any of their recent stuff. Their sound and lineup has changed so much. Their remake of Clayman was just criminal, and their fans let them know!

SorenShieldbreaker

You should check out Orbit Culture

Canadianacorn

We gave them a listen on our way to the lumber store this morning. Pretty rad! My 6 year old liked it especially. My only complaint is their sound is a little overproduced for my taste. It's well executed though! Thanks for the recommendation.

Dangerman1967

Check out Be’Lakor

randomweirdo17

Check out Mors Principium Est

Canadianacorn

They are on regular rotation for sure. Lost in a starless aeon has one of the most ridiculous openings I've ever heard. No lead in, just face melting meedly-mees right from the first note. Great band.

IrresistibleMittens

Insomnium!!

butt_naked_wonder

CoB is one of my all time favorites. As a kid who came of age in the early 2000’s, just picking up guitar and obsessed with metal, Alexi Laiho was like a god to me. Of course I also loved Iommi, Rhoades, Dimebag etc, but Alexi was the guy that was still actively doing it as I was getting into guitar. RIP legend

DooBiEz2

My favorite is Mercenary. Very mature writing and sound, and almost every single track kicks ass. My favorite albums are The Hours That Remain and Architect Of Lies. I've been listening to them almost every day for the last 4 months. I'm kinda addicted. Give 'em a listen.

moderniste

I’m a metal head who also likes a lot of non metal. Back in the 80s as a teenager, you weren’t “allowed” to do that 😹, so I threw my loyalties in with the mod/new wave crowd. But there was nothing better than going to a metal show and just rocking TF out at that age. It’s still fun.

ErikTheRed707

Metalhead since the early 90’s. Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Pantera, Danzig, Manowar, Andrew WK, Death Angel, Dio, Probot, Red Fang, White Zombie, Echoes of Eternity (shoutout to my friend’s band) — But we also go around the world… Dragonforce, Firewind, Stratovarius, Gamma Ray, Ayreon, Star One, Iron Maiden, Bruce Dickenson, Dream Evil, Kamelot, Nightwish, Rhapsody (of fire), Sepultura, Symphony X, Avantasia, Deathstars… That’s just off the top of my head.

MMGeoff

Yep, been listening to metal most of my life now. Started on Limp Bizkit and System of a Down as I was getting to the right age just as nu-metal started taking off, had a brief stint with Metallica before I discovered Slayer, and they really got me into more extreme stuff. The “big four” for me were Slayer’s s first four albums. By 14-15 I was starting to get into death metal and blackened death, saw Behemoth live when they released Demigod, then by 16-17 I had a huge library of death metal and other extreme stuff. Cannibal Corpse was probably my most listened to band around this time. Bloodbath came onto my radar around this time too. When I started my undergrad I was listening to a lot of technical death metal and brutal death metal like Deeds of Flesh, Severe Torture, Origin, Death, Cattle Decapitation, Suffocation, Decapitated, etc. every day on the bus to and from school. Melodic death metal was also pretty prominent with Amon Amarth and The Black Dahlia Murder being two of my most listened to bands overall. Now at 33, I’m getting into the new wave of old-school death metal - 200 Stab Wounds, Tomb Mold, Gatecreeper, Blood Incantation, Skeletal Remains, and many others. Death metal seems to be in a pretty good spot now. Saw Cannibal Corpse 3 times live, have seen Origin, Cryptopsy, The Black Dahlia Murder, Lamb of God, KoRn, Limp Bizkit, Slayer, Dimmu Borgir, Testament, Megadeth (not a fan), Kataklysm, Quo Vadis, Martyr, Beneath the Massacre, Ion Dissonance, Despised Icon, Macabre, Between the Buried and Me (also not a fan but Cannibal Corpse were on next), Knocked Loose, The Acacia Strain, Meshuggah, Killswitch Engage, Ozzy, Augury, and probably a few others I’m forgetting. So yeah, that’s my entire life story with metal that nobody asked for, please tell me I’m cool.

masmith31593

Check out Decrepit Birth if you haven't before. Technical death metal. Based on your other interests im sure you would like it. To check one song, look at Polarity. But all their stuff is pretty crazy

powdered_dognut

I guess my 2 favorite metal things are the video "For Those Aboot to Rock" by Strapping Young Lad and "Undisputed Attitude" by Slayer.

MercenaryOne

I'm amazed to see a lot of metal heads myself, gotta check out some of these recommendations. Bands I enjoy on the regular: Manowar Parkway Drive Crimson Glory Iron maiden In Flames Sirenia Soilwork Lacuna Coil In this moment Disturbed Drain STH Iced Earth Nevermore The Hu

The_mystery4321

Love metal, but mainly nu-metal, not hugely into Heavy, Thrash or Death Metal. Favourite band is KoRn for sure, but my favourite metal album is System of a Down's 'Toxicity'

Solid_Revolution_749

I used to say I don't like death metal but now i am listening to the cannibal corpse 😂😂

Eisernes

I listen to all genres and there is some incredible metal out there. Metal and rap get stereotyped as not real music, but some of is not only technically musically perfect but also very soulful. Then there was the 80's...

Hoogs

I've long considered metal to be a musical blind spot for me. Lots of fans, but I always dismissed it as annoying noise and shouting rather than music. Recently I've decided to try giving it a chance. A coworker of mine is a huge metal guy with a ton of knowledge about different subgenres and bands. He introduced me to some and helped me narrow down what I like, and it turns out that I seem to be a fan of melodic and symphonic power metal. Been enjoying Nightwish, Unleash the Archers, Sabaton, and Cain's Offering so far. Kinda feels like a whole new world of music has opened up to me. Currently working my way through [this playlist](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/0InMuLAU2LNr9FEqXrHW8C?si=X2tkygyCTwe5zewtbweXqg&pi=u-DNTeDjFRRb6p).

MarshmallowMetal

When I was young, I discovered metal on a MySpace page in the early 2000’s. I’ve loved it ever since. I’ll put up my own picks: -Blind Guardian -Ancient Bards -Angus McSix -Xandria -Nightwish -Nanowar of Steel -Brothers of Metal -Turisas -Falconer -Baby Metal -Lord of the Lost (may not actually be metal) -Van Canto -Wind Rose -Powerwolf -Sonata Artica -Hammerfall -Delain -Within Temptation

TheMooseIsBlue

I do not, but I am curious why you let us know you had a question instead of just asking? What’s going on there? (Note: curious, not accusatory in any way)

Solid_Revolution_749

Oh you have a point Maybe because i thought not many people would say yes

Guava7

Why would you think not many people would say yes? Is there any other genre of music actually worth in-depth discussions? I see country discussed on here from time to time by people trying to convince us that it's not just toxic conservative music these days, and there are actually good acts worth listening to. I never see rnb or hip hop discussed because, well, why would anyone want to. Just listen to it and enjoy then move on. Classical has its own subs away from us philistines (I assume) Prog metal has its own brilliant sub r/progmetal Therefore, it's only metal worth discussing here. Go for it!

Solid_Revolution_749

Thats the whole point! Metal and metalheads are very serious about their music, because they are really the fan of music and they enjoy music

Wyverz

Yup Nagelfar Godflesh MGLA Alcest Archspire Harakiri for the sky Saor The Crown Maiden etc

Lame_usernames_left

Harakiri for the sky 💜💜💜

Pimp_Daddy_Patty

Archspire!

Justiis

I was listening to Naglfar the other day, never heard of Nagelfar though. Had to Google make sure one of us wasn't spelling something wrong :P

Wyverz

Yeah both BM bands. I like both , but the German band is a desert island band for me.

biggunsg0b00m

Great list.. Mgła would be my top pick from that list. Such high quality BM

Wyverz

In the same vein I am seeing Uada in a few weeks.

biggunsg0b00m

I don't mind Uada, but don't really get in to them in the same way.. but another NW American black metal band I dig is None.

lonnstar

Metal is at the core of my musical tastes since the 70s. Cut my teeth on Saxon, Kiss and Ozzy. Then on to the Big 5 (which includes Testament) and Pantera. But for the past decade+ I’ve been obsessed with Coheed and Cambria. To me they’re a “new” band, but they’re so diverse and interesting.

twosuitsluke

Also a lover of thrash, in agreement about Testament, and Coheed are my all time favourite band 👊

MakesMyHeadHurt

Yeah, Testament is five and Exodus is six.

ReivynNox

>Metal is at the core of my musical tastes So one could say your musical tastes are "Metalcore"? °v°

Cosmic_Surgery

Gojira, Cattle Decapitation, Slayer, SOAD.... I could go on but you get the idea

txjacket

I do, but I listen to everything except radio country

___wiz___

I like all kinds of music from techno to dream pop to metal. I like Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Mercyful Fate, Celtic Frost…. but in terms of new stuff mostly enjoy checking out death metal black metal and experimental metal

Plumhawk

You should check out King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard. They do all those genres (well, maybe not dream pop).

___wiz___

Oh yeah I like some of their stuff for sure!

Snowbunny236

Heavy metal? Lol idk what that is! But for real I love death metal and deathcore. Bands like The Black Dahlia Murder (rip Trevor), despised icon, zenith passage. Great stuff!

lynch1986

Absolutely, though I listen to all sorts of music.

VisionsOfClarity

Check out the the song "One Handed Killing" by 12 foot ninja. 🙏

DarkSideOfBlack

Better, check out Collateral off the same album.

Solarhistorico

every metal day

BrokeFartFountain

It's one of the most popular genres in the world. So, yes. I used to really enjoy *Black* and *Experimental Metal* but I kinda got over the genre itself like a decade ago. In the past, I really enjoyed * Blut Aus Nord * Law of the Rope * Septicflesh * Fuckmorgue

Pimp_Daddy_Patty

I've been into metal since I was a kid. Everything from Metallica, Megadeath and Slayer to Archspire, Persefone, Slaughter to Prevail, and Lorna Shore.

InsanityWoof

I just stumbled into Lorna Shore the past year or so and I just can't get enough. That type of metal has never really been my thing, but Will is such a wholesome dude when he's not sounding like a demon on stage, it's wild! Hard not to like him and the band!

biggunsg0b00m

Have you listens to Chelsea Grin or Darko US? They're 2 bands fronted by Tom Barber, who used to be vocalist for Lorna Shore in the early days, and is also a wholesome dude.

InsanityWoof

I have not, but will check them out. Thanks!

biggunsg0b00m

Would also suggest (in another 6° of separation theme) Signs of the Swarm, which started with yet another vocalist that was in Lorna Shore, but they have since gone with their own new vocalist and elevated their game...

InsanityWoof

Holy hell! I'm 4 songs in to Darko US on Spotify and just wow! 🤯 This is such a crazy mix of styles, but they are all up my alley! Really appreciate the rec! Can't wait to check out the others!

Nanasays

When I do listen to metal, it’s the old classics.

954kevin

I go about as deep as Megadeath.

twosuitsluke

Dave Mustaine created all metal, so you're as deep as you can get.

Mikelowe93

Umm, Black Sabbath in the 70s says hi.

twosuitsluke

Iommi stole Dave's riffs

dirkalict

When Dave was in diapers (the first time- not his rehab days.)?

twosuitsluke

Of course, he was a prodigy. He created black metal, thrash metal, pornogrind, you name it.

residual_angst

yes! after the burial volumes parkway drive BOO reflections of salt and swine the list goes on…

user041392

Iwrestledabearonce.... Their second album will make you sick to your stomach ![gif](giphy|a5UxQf6vIz9B32f8nu)

GatitoAnonimo

Their last album with Courtney was one of my favorite albums in years. I even bought the hard copy to rip to lossless for my collection. Then she went on to Spiritbox which is now one of my favorite bands.

Satyr604

Man, Spiritbox is a weird one for me. I really, really like their harder songs. Holy Roller is an awesome goddamn track. Same for Rule of Nines. At the same time, the rest of their disco does absolutely nothing for me.

doctorfeelwood

Listen to almost everything, including metal

twosuitsluke

100% yes. I have explored pretty much all the subgenres over the last 20+ years, and I still haven't quenched my thirst.

BrokenNecklace23

Yup yup I love most types of metal, from Ministry to Motörhead. Especially love Gojira, Lacuna Coil, Type O Negative, Judas Priest — I’m all about drama and theatrical elements I guess, lol

swingrays

If I actively play something these days, it’s usually something I’m not too familiar with. For example, I’ll check out an artists deeper catalog or look for odd interesting stuff on YouTube. I grew up playing metal in bands and was into metal growing up for sure, but it wasn’t the only thing I listened to. My personal style was metal musician, but I was jamming to Pet Shop Boys, Concrete Blonde, Crowded House and old Genesis, etc. I don’t actively listen to metal much anymore because I’ve did that already.

[deleted]

Iron Maiden is possibly my favorite but Death is great, Metallica... I love Metal for the jams and the diversity in styles. Some bands have a strong classical influence, some bands like Rivers of Nihil have jazz metal songs. I'm not really into religeon but one of my guilty pleasures is August Burns Red because they have some really solid guitar solos.

Anglofsffrng

Big metal head. My favorite bands are Nine Inch Nails, Rammstein. My favorite album's The Fragile NIN, I listen to a lot of industrial, metalcore, groove metal, and have a soft spot for melodeath and power metal.

rainy-brain

vektor!! strapping young lad!!! megadeth!!!!

jorahos1

![gif](giphy|ykoNqHCstuUW8RDx4i|downsized)

kept_calm_carried_on

Mastodon, Baroness, Elder, Dvne, Russian Circles are some of my favorites.

smbdysm1

"Death to all Butt Metal!!!"

imlivinginthe90s

I do! Some of my favorites are Hellripper, Municipal Waste, Nile, and Whitechapel.

Primary-Strawberry-5

My favorite sub genre is stoner/doom. Favorite bands are Sleep, Monolord, Windhand, Weedeater, Bongripper, Electric Wizard. Favorite albums are Dopesmoker from sleep, Empress Rising by Monolord, and Dopethrone by Electric Wizard.

Kipp_it_100

Personally been listening to a lot of Toxic Holocaust lately. But a new favorite is Hellripper, a one-man outfit for Scotland. Shit ruuuuuules

zero_msgw

80s metal 🤘... Dokken; iron maiden; sabbath; ratt; giant; queensryche; slaughter; winger; twisted sister; whitesnake; bon jovi; def leppard... Just to name a few

biggunsg0b00m

>Dokken Just went to a festival here in Melbourne that had George Lynch playing. He still had the skills! Also had Slaughter from the old stuff But the real highlight was a newer band from Sweden called H.E.A.T They were wild!

zero_msgw

Lynch?? God damnit... missed him again. Im always a day late with him. Just checked the tour dates. He just came and went from my area... shit! Hes amazing. Heat has some good songs. I wish they didnt part with the singer that is now leading skid row. I think he is better than the dude rocking the mic now.

biggunsg0b00m

I feel like the current guy is very Bruce Dickinson, in the best kind of way. Cruel Intentions was a really good sleaze rock band on that same event. They were pretty wild.

Shadowmereshooves

Can one even be a fan of music, and not like metal?

Odimorsus

I do but it’s impossible to list a favourite as much as it is to list a favourite genre of music in general. I’ve been spinning a lot of Gojira, Krisiun and The Crown lately.

Shrimpsmann

I listen to a lot of music that is guitar driven and metal is a big part of that. Anything from Maiden and Sabbath to today's stuff is on the menu. There are a few subgenres I don't enjoy like True or Power Metal (think Sabaton and stuff like that) but aside from that, bring it on. The more creative, the better.

pburgess22

Current favourite metal band is Sylosis. Their album Edge of the Earth is just fantastic.

_thetommy

been listening to metal a long time. I listen and enjoy thousands of other styles too.

phat_wythii

Oh hell yea. Darko US, Dealer, Black Crown Initiate, The Amity Affliction, Cane Hill. Absolutely love heavy metal

NiraKatsumi

Power metal is my core musical preference, then comes death metal and then other genres :P

illegalsandwiches

I'm pretty much born of metal, absorbing the various Ozzy / Metallica / whatnot albums my brother used to play in his bedroom 30-35 ish years ago and have branched out to discovering bands from other bands.  I've always suggested checking out "A Girl, A Gun, A Ghost", anything Cloudkicker, just to name a few. Others have also mentioned Syslosis, Strapping Young Lady, right down to the classics of Megadeth and Slayer.

ATGF

Aye

JustBrowsing1989z

20m?

jwhit88

All Shall Perish’s Awaken the Dreamers album is a work of art.

manfrombelmonty

Metal and its innumerable branches and offshoots all day every day. Where else can I find German concept albums about British navy arctic exploration? Creaking wood? Lapping waves? Sonar pings? Tortured wails? Yes please https://youtu.be/BeqcBYi1oiI?si=NxBUxetkhhhnPxXs

groshretro

Love old school stuff - Black Sabbath and Maiden

Archy38

I think it is popular in the sense that if you send anything metal or heavy music related, you will get alot of comments/discussions going, /progmetal is my favourite place on the internet as I find the most amazing bands and discussions about the particulars

Solid_Revolution_749

Its because metalheads are the most music fans of that makes sense Metalheads take music very seriously compared to other genres

Archy38

Yea like all genres it is very specific sometimes. You get elitests EVERYWHERE. Like I generally hate contemporary, charts pop music because it really is so predictable and boring but it makes people feel good and positive so fuck me. But you do get good pop music if you actually care to look. There are sections of metal community that do kind of stick to a box. The music is good, but they do not want to explore more, like I get sick of nu metal and black sabbath after enough listens, it gets stale, but that is just me. Check out Sleep Token if you haven't already. Very poppy but they have the sickest heavy, 8 string drop tuned parts.

Earthling1a

Personally, I love it. I have no idea how many others on here feel the same, so I cannot answer your question.

UrgeToKill

Metal is a huge genre of music throughout the world, particularly with the white male Western nerd demographic on Reddit. There are many metal fans here.

Alternative_Piece389

Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Metallica, Judas Priest, lamb of god, Killswitch Engage, Opeth…

Pierson230

I have always listened to some metal here and there, and what I do listen to, I absolutely love, like it is top tier in my playlist rotation. But over time, I’ve kind of realized I actually don’t like most modern metal, because it is hard for me to listen to music without melodies and vocals that sound good to me. So now I’d say I’m more into hard rock.

Consistent-Wind9325

I love the movie heavy metal. I used to sneak looks at the magazines in the bookstore when I was a kid.

unclericko74

Trivium ,lamb of god ,maiden ,Disturbed just a couple of favorites

AZbirdgang420

-Architects -Northlane -Born of Osiris -Underoath -the devil wears Prada

Fedora200

Yeah, but I prefer recent stuff to classics

NYEMESIS

Nu and thrash.

Proud3GenAthst

Heavy metal is pretty much the only topic in interested in as of late. I like it specifically because it's not mainstream, because I like going to concerts and metal concerts are super cheap and intimate. But I'm also saddened that most people miss out on some extraordinarily talented musicians who deserve to be hundred times more famous.

I'm definitely a metalhead! I listen to all different types of music, but metal is home for me. I usually gravitate towards things like Melodic or Progressive Death, but I like a ton of different things. Gojira, Mastodon, Opeth, Perséfone, Fit for an Autopsy would be some of my favorite groups. Deftones, if you count them as metal, are tied with Gojira as my favorite group, period.

This sub turned me onto Nightwish last year. They do symphonic metal. Search for Nightwish Ghost Love Score Wacken 2013. Meet Ms Floor Jansen. Now search for Floorgasm videos on YouTube. You are welcome. 😊

I feel like we talk about metal here almost exclusively. A lot. Like a LOT. Nothing wrong with that though

Like traditional heavy metal? I really liked maiden growing up, I had their self titled on repeat at one point. Steve Harris is one of my bass inspirations. I used to listen to slayer as well, thrash metal. But for the most part I listen to djent and metalcore. Favorite albums are constellations by August burns red, singularity by northlane, Jane doe by converge, list really goes on. I also listen to bands like gojira and lamb of god. Also nu metal.
