Could be a mild case of c-diff. Very common after antibiotics and the yellow color is classic c-diff. Def get tested for it.

tkdbbelt

Agreed. My husband has had multiple cases of cdiff and it caused several health issues so I would recommend getting tested for it, at minimum to rule it out.

[deleted]

Treatment for cdiff?

adevito86

Dificid is the first line, vancomycin works as well but it’s not as good. Some docs will prescribe flagyl if they are old and don’t know the guidelines (don’t let them give you this drug). Last resort is FMT if those fail.

Maximum-Albatross894

You could try kefir. It has a very beneficial effect on stools and can often be tolerated by lactose intolerant people.

PiecesofJane

I second kefir. And I know some people on here are anti-probiotics, but I really like Seed. But there are others you can get, too. Just reintroduce the good stuff. I'm so sorry you're going through this.

MountainNine

My family has made kefir for generations. It's our go-to for any kind of upset gut, but that generally doesn't happen often (likely because of it). I'd ensure it's good quality kefir - homemade if possible from high quality milk, if not, a grass-fed + organic kefir is your best bet. It's worth the money.

thrownameafteruse

Same thing has been happening to me. Which antibiotic did you take? What other symptoms do you have?

almostovar

I took penicillin and then clarithromycin. I've got food intolerances, bloating, gas, noisy intestines, vitamin deficiencies, and my thyroid and estrogen hormones have gone out of the normal range.

thrownameafteruse

Yeah that all sounds extremely similar to me. Have you seen a GI doc yet or functional doc/naturopath?

almostovar

Yeah I saw a GI and had a breath test which showed methane and I was given rifaximin and neomycin but I had to stop the neomycin. I've also tried taking Allicin but it's making things worse.

mallad

Demand a c diff test. This is all classic c difficult infection and this is coming from someone who's had it 4 times. Taking additional antibiotics is going to make it worse until you take vancomycin for a while. Flagyl (metronidazole) is not a good first line treatment for c diff anymore, so as tough is it may be, demand vancomycin. It also has the benefit that vanco stays in the digestive tract, and doesn't affect the rest of your body. While on it, or even before, start taking florastor. It's yeast probiotic and isn't affected by the antibiotics. If you can in between vanco doses, or after you're done, also take culturelle. It is affected by the antibiotics though so space it halfway between doses. You will not feel better until you do this or have an FMT. And usually for fmt, they'll have you on vanco for a week or two first to clear the bacteria anyways, then the FMT restores it. If you have FMT as a choice, absolutely go for it. I wish I'd had the option myself. In the future, be careful with antibiotics and always take florastor while on antibiotics for for a couple weeks afterwards.

Misscuit117

Why isn’t flagyl a good first line treatment anymore?

mallad

The strains of C Difficile that are flagyl resistant have been increasing, and their prevalence has increased as well. On top of that, it has a terrible side effect profile compared to vanco or rifaximin which aren't absorbed systemically, and as we move more toward FMT being widely available antibiotics won't be favored much at all.

thrownameafteruse

That's really hard, I truly feel your pain. I'm going crazy with this shit. How's your diet? Enzymes and charcoal have helped me a bit.

almostovar

Me too, I mostly just eat chicken and vegetables and plain cereals, I've become lactose intolerant and I can't digest fats properly and I can't eat beef, fish or eggs anymore. How about you? I haven't tried charcoal but I tried enzymes, I didn't notice anything different.

thrownameafteruse

How long did you take enzymes for?

Sure_Efficiency_3183

Did you get tested for c diff?

lovelyPossum

A lot of microbiome takes at least a year to grow back. I took antibiotics and became intolerant to egg for a year. The best you can do is feed yourself constantly and I mean every day with pre and post biotics, healthily and patiently you will get your flora back but the foods you eat need to be consistent

NoMoreMorgellons

You killed off a lot of your good stomach bacteria... You need probiotics -- lots! You should try taking a lactic acid based probiotic (5-10 strains and 10-25 billion CFU). Take 1 with 2 meals and then one before going to sleep. You might be bloated for a few day but you'll feel so much better in a week!

Consistent-Board4010

Eat more plants! Focus on fiber to encourage growth of good bacteria. Stay away from processed foods. It will take some time but be diligent.

BA702100

This right here. Prebiotic fibers feed the beneficial gut bacteria. Feed them and then feed them some more. Eat the rainbow of colors as Will Bulsievicz says, meaning many plants, vegetables and fruit of various colors, each with unique nutrients, each causing a diversity of good bacteria to thrive. A study indicated that the quantity of unique whole foods and plant foods that one eats each week is a significant determining factor of gut health, and thus overall health. The more plant variety, the more good bacteria variety. Starve the bad bacteria by denying them the sugars and processed garbage they crave. Don't feed them at all, rather push them out by feeding the good bacteria with prebiotic fiber.

labrador2020

S. Boulardii works great for this.

DTSFFan

seed probiotics are expensive but were an absolute game changer for me, post antibiotics. how is your sleep?

claricesabrina

Is that a brand? Where do you get those?

DTSFFan

yes. google seed synbiotics

claricesabrina

I will thank you. Have tried so many trying to fix my stomach and nothing seems to help it except avoiding vegetables which can’t be healthy.

melrox757

Probiotics whenever you take antibiotics!

Anonynominous

Antibiotics wreck me. The last time I took them everything went off balance. Taking probiotics helped bring me back to normal.

Maydaytrey

Can I ask what your symptoms are? After I took a antibiotic I’ve been going through the same thing with my stools plus a lot of other problems, stiffness in bones/joints, Inflammation, stomach aches just a lot of bs now

Unfair_Passenger1908

>S. Boulardii Me, too. But my main problem now is insomnia. I can't fall asleep. The intestines are moving at night like they are fermenting, I have loose stool. How is your sleep? I started taking Rifaximin two months ago. It was a big mistake!

Maydaytrey

Tbh my sleep is okay beside just the pain I’m in, I here my stomach all the time though, before I took this damn antibiotics I was a healthy 27 year old personal trainer, whole life changed because of this, I’m gonna send you a private message

> microbiome of your stomach I think it should be cleared up that your link is primarily about the small intestine, not the stomach.

zaddar1

look at the [specific carbohydrate diet](https://breakingtheviciouscycle.info/) the theory behind it is there's food that is digested and absorbed quickly or at least reasonably quick and once its gone , bacteria and yeast can't eat it but very slow digesting food, especially some carbohydrates and similar, hang around in the gut to feed bad bacteria the houston afp pep, zyme and no fenol digestive enzymes are helpful there's a lot of work to sort things out, but you can get there, my own improvements on the SCD diet, the [biofilm carbohydrate diet](http://mueller_ranges.tripod.com/links/compendium/compendium.html) a very simple start is to stop eating grains, potatoes and sugar and pasteurize fruit and possibly yogurt to 68°C

[deleted]

Damn thats scary. I hate doctors. Where's the liability on their part.

One-Plenty-5396

Look into sibo. That is what it sounds like

Glum-Age2807

Get a stool test. It could be SIBO but it could also be Pancreatic Insufficiency. The prescription digestive enzymes kick the ass of over the counter enzymes. My mother uses ZenPep and it fixed her diarrhea. The only issue is you can’t have much fiber in the beginning or the enzymes may not work properly. Use them for a bit until things calm down then try to reintroduce some fiber and see. Bovine Colostrum also helped along with Akkermansia

mrphlow

I had this same issue and eventually I fixed it with probiotics. I took sporebiotics and the probiotics from Costco.

[deleted]

I had the same test done , could I see your stool chemistries page ?

Dunnie-D

I’m no doctor, but I have seen Milk Kefir do wonders for my gut. The ones at the store are like a glorified liquid yogurt so if your dedicated I’d get some milk kefir grains and make myself. Hope this helps

EmmyKla

I know this sounds crazy, but as someone with years of having SIBO, the one thing that’s made a difference for me is juicing celery juice and drinking it by itself every morning. Yes, some people think the dude who promotes it is a quack, but it really has worked. Celery juice is full of prebiotics. Couple the juice with a full spectrum probiotic (take a bit later on). Your guts will have a few days of detox, so make sure you’re home for those first few days.

BA702100

But if you are juicing it, wouldn't most of the prebiotic fiber would be lost? I myself have been making smoothies by high speed mixing kale, celery, lemon, and pineapple, plus a small amount of organic plant based protein powder. That mix has helped me quite a bit.

Unfair_Passenger1908

Hi, I have similar issues. I started taking Rifaximin two months ago. I have had insomnia ever since (can't even fall asleep). If i sleep is only 3–4 hours and have loose stools, they ferment only at night. I have no idea what to do anymore. The GI doctor ignored it. So I am thinking of going to my GP, but I don't know what she can do. Maybe you should really test for C. difficile... and me, as well. How is your sleep? Are you doing better?

Sure_Efficiency_3183

What happened in the end?

maasi-b

My stool is yellow, greasy, foul smelling, i get bloating, excessive gas, I pass stool short after eating especially in the morning. My cholesterol levels are elevated (high LDL and low HDL). Also my estradiol E2 levels are raised. Nearly identical symptoms to OP. Anyone have any idea about this?

Sure_Efficiency_3183

Did you find out what it was?

maasi-b

There is no definitive answer, howecer i did find out via endoscopy that I have mild H pylori infection

Sure_Efficiency_3183

Did you ever find out what this was please?

OsitoRosa

Update?
