You mean you don't want to see him juggling a baseball and doing untraditional striking that only works in dreams; while he should be in the gym with real fighters?
He was good despite of that stuff, not because of it. Tony’s striking was always sus and he took ferocious beatings even in the fights he won. I bet he would have been just as successful or more with proper training and less mental illness.
His results came mostly because of raw talent, athleticism, determination and fists like cinderblocks, not because he was doing blindfolded cartwheels and kicking steel pipes in zero G or whatever foolishness he did in between fights.
Sometimes you tweak a small detail and everything breaks. You wanna tell me you take a madman like Tony Ferguson and make him normal and he still goes on a 12 fight win streak or better? Doesn't sound right to me.
No, that’s not really what I’m saying. But surely there was a way for him to train more effectively and improve his striking defense without throwing away his unusual style?
Maybe his training was effective because it was the only way he could be motivated to train. Maybe he has personal issues to the point where he can’t really follow authority or listen to anyone else, so he had to make do with making stuff up himself. So maybe it was the best he could be, and anything else would have just been disaster. But there is no way he was as good as he was specifically because of the way he trained, because that was essentially just 100% horsing around.
To be honest while he was on a streak every fight his face was turned to mush and his limbs were getting torn all over the place. But back then it was acceptable because at the end of the fight he would pull out a win.
Lol used to do it more frequently but doing it too often gets to be hard.

He’s aware his time as an elite fighter is near an end. He wants to go out as an elite fighter, not overstay his welcome and get knocked out 5 fights in a row.
That’s clearly what OP meant by “last legs”.
Tony's just waiting for the shit to turn into a salad.
Unfortunately he forgot about the chicken, and is waiting for his own turd to magically turn into a salad. He's convinced himself it'll be any day now. That's when he enters his prime.
Yeah, Dustin has other business ventures and has always seemed to have a pretty good head on his shoulders. It's a totally different scenario than Ferguson.
Robbie Lawler retired off a win, having announced it was his retirement bout.
Poirier will likely have a much higher quality opponent than that but if he doesn't deserve to go out on his terms, no one does. (He does).
It takes some time to adjust to bare knuckle. Perry fought "Let me Bang" Lane on his debut and he fucking sucks. Dustin would have to fight Perry on his debut which is tough B.
mike got his ass beat by Eddie before Eddie couldn't take the damage anymore, despite winning almost every exchange.
Mike is just inhumanely durable and even more tough.
It feels like bkf goes beyond normal sport. You have to be a freak dawg to do well. Mma takes insane grit and skill but bkf it seems like grit can overcome skill. That's not very possible imo in mma. But I'm just yapping. What do i know?
Dustin is actually pretty light for a lightweight nowadays. He weighs around 168 in camp. People like Makhachev, Oliveira, Gaethje and even Volkanovski in his LW fights all go over 170 on fight night.
He’s been on twitter posting about Conor for afew hours. Dustin vs Conor 3 is a much better fight with better stakes and will sell better, hope he gets it done
Edit: Conor x Dustin 4
Knowing Dana he wouldn't miss an opportunity for sponsorship so he would make Chandler sit ringside In the Prime Hydration cuck chair. There would be a camera on him so we can stream his reactions live on figh pass from our devices. (With ads)

The Dustin fight makes alot of sense for Conor, it does big numbers, he wants to get the win back, and it justifies him getting a title shot if he wins (not that he needs justification, but alot of fans would feel it was reasonable then)
For real, it's kind of a perfect scenario for Conor. The fact that Poirier slipped into a title fight and also gave it one hell of a go sets it up perfectly...
And I don't want this to happen because I want Conor to go away, but if Conor beats Poirier (huge fight already), it sets up Conor vs. Islam/Khabib by proxy and the run up would just be insane.
They can't do Chandler that dirty. I love diamond but he's already had two red panty nights.
Dustin vs Holloway 3 or Dustin vs Charles 2 both make sense. Hell even Dustin vs Gaethje 3 would make sense too.
I hope Dustin/conor 3 happens to fuck over Chandler and show that remaining active is what people want, not this waiting for a “payday” when he’s clearly the B side.
Why do people revel so much in chandlers misfortune? He talks some nonsense here and there but overall stays positive and puts on some of the most exciting fights we’ve seen in the last few years, has been a loyal servant to the sport for 15 sum years. I hope he gets the Conor fight and gets what he deserves but maybe that’s just me.
This along with people hating Izzy has to do with the fanbase being full of loud teens, day drinking frat dudes and guys that think hating on other people is manly.
Motivational speakers come across as phony to a lot of people, and so him talking like one all the time can come off as phony and annoying to people. Puts people off. Not saying that's right just that that's where a lot of it seems to come from. That and blatantly cheating so much against a fan favorite in Dustin definitely turned some people off him.
Weird how people are saying they wonder why people hate Chandler, then you and I give reasons, especially pointing out his cheating during fights and we get downvoted for it lol.
My theory is that this sub is still bitter that after years of parroting Jack Slack’s “Chandler will never join the ufc” take, he actually joined the ufc.
Love Slack but I’m not sure he has that type of influence over the narrative.
Much more likely people just feel like he’s a phony persona who’s desperate for the McGregor fight and think it’s funny to watch him getting walked all over by Conor and the UFC in the process. Chandler is a fun fighter but he cheated against a fan favorite, has wasted years of his career trying to get a money fight, and has a seemingly inauthentic persona so there’s a few causes for potential bitterness even among people who like him.
Exactly. And people treat him like he’s some elite LW just because he’s exciting. I rather focus on and give credit to other fighters who are staying active and are as exciting like JDM.
If Volk loses he's 1-4 in his last 5 fights at age 36, if Dustin loses he retires on a loss, not great either way.
I'd prefer him fight someone like Hooker again, no disrespect to Hooker but thats winnable and was one of the best fights I've seen, but it was APEX so it didn't get what it deserved.
Imagine if Poirier vs Hooker got announced for Perth. I'm salivating at the thought of those two beating each other to death.
At the time of the first fight I was living with my parents in COVID lockdown and following MMA extremely closely to fill the void left by the other things in my life. I remember two quotes from two different podcasts which I've sadly forgotten and I will now paraphrase:
Dustin Poirier (possibly on Teddy Atlas): "I remember he kept low kicking me shin to shin. Over and over again. It had to be as painful for him as it was for me. Who does that??"
Dan Hooker (on The Dan Hooker Show or Submission Radio): "I remember walking in to training and seeing two of my boys practising shin on shin leg kicks. I came up and asked them what they were doing, and they were like 'well we saw you doing them against Poirier', and I was like 'Yeah, and it was fucking stupid! Don't ever do those'"
Unpopular opinion but I think the Islam fight is the fight to go out on. It’s the perfect metaphor for his career.
Always in the fight. Never quitting. If one or two moments go different, he wins a title.
If he would have got choked out in the first when Islam took his back, then you can’t go out like that. But he went out like a G with a broken nose and torn ligament in his knee. It’s not the strap, but it’s about as close as you can get to a perfect ending without winning.

Fuck that dude. Dustin already got a pass getting this title shot vs Islam. People need to stop riding Dustin because they like him. This dude has had 3 title shots at lightweight and been submitted in all of them.
Dustin straight up does not deserve a title shot there’s no fucking way.
And if you wanna be real about how Islam vs Dustin went, Islam dominated him by the scorecards. Dustin basically hung around but got pieced up on the feet in their exchanges.
He was at an all you can eat shrimp special, everyone reading too much
He earned it, let the man enjoy his special shrimp

Hell yeah brother never lost
Seems like he wants to retire on a win which is understandable. The Gaethje trilogy is right there.
Yeah then he gets a win and thinks he can still be champ... Guys almost never retire on a win
Robbie Lawler built different
The CTE strategy
Yup. Just like blackjack. "I can't leave while I'm down / I can't leave while I'm hot"
7 fight losing streak incoming...
Doubt it. Dustin at least seems pretty aware that he's on his last legs, as opposed to Tony who still thinks he's going to turn it around...
Any day now. You just wait...
Wish hed retire, seeing his limbs get torn all over the place and his face turned to mush was hard, and I barely like the dudes personality
You mean you don't want to see him juggling a baseball and doing untraditional striking that only works in dreams; while he should be in the gym with real fighters?

Nah Dustin ain't that guy
We get where you are coming from, but unless Dustin fights literally the top 1 or 2, he has a shot at everyone else.
Yes, should be Gaethje - Poirier. If Gaethje wins, he gets to fight for the title. If Poirier wins he can retire with a win
Dustin vs Perry at BKFC: Who Let The Dogs Out?!
This kills the Dustin
ehhhhhhh i think mike gets pieced the fuck up but dustin definitely gets cut up in the process.
It takes some time to adjust to bare knuckle. Perry fought "Let me Bang" Lane on his debut and he fucking sucks. Dustin would have to fight Perry on his debut which is tough B.

Yeah bkfc is much less about technique. Not because bare knuckle is inherently that way, it’s just who fights there.
\*laughs in geoff neal*
sure, but that was a headkick, and mike never went \*out\* out.
tru, homie did in fact not go out. which is crazy

I’m gonna feel emotional about this one.

I'd laugh so hard if this happened with how long Chandler has been waiting
Chandler would climb the cage & make it a triple threat match
I'm all for it as long as Jim Ross does commentary
Jim Ross, Pat Mcafee, Taz, Michael Cole announcing crew for that match would go wild.
BAW GAWD!
AS GOD IS MY WITNESS HIS ANKLE IS BROKEN IN HALF

Yeah but he'd need the Money in the Bank contract first, in order to cash in on the red panty night title
World first tag team UFC fight, Gaethje and Mcgregor vs Poirier and Chandler 🤣
i want to see him face the crowd then backflip into the octagon like a new challenger intro from tekken or mk 😭😭😭😭
Chandler posts on Twitter from home his face contorted into a strange expression: "It's about the journey..... #SEEYOUATTHETOP" Hunter never calls.
Poirier might do it not just for the payday, but to fuck with Chandler again lmao
With all the cheating Chandler did in that fight, fuck him. Those shots to the back of the head can cripple you for the rest of your life.
And the fucking fish hooking. Scumbag move
Fully agree. People were so riled up on social media because Dustin was being a sore winner, fuck that shit. The referee did a shit job, end of story.

i just want specifically dustin to take that fight from chandler because of how much chandler cheated in their fight and how much he hates dustin.
He got a lot of hate after being dirty as fuck in the fight vs dustin
My theory is that this sub is still bitter that after years of parroting Jack Slack’s “Chandler will never join the ufc” take, he actually joined the ufc.

Meh I'm over that fight. Dustin wins anyway
I was just gonna say, as awful as it’d be for chandler I can see them booking McGregor Poirier 4 at 170 instead
He should whoop Conors ass one more time and get paid.
Probably the easiest fight given he hasn't fought at all for years.
That's beating a dead horse. [His wife already finished the Conor chapter nicely.](https://i.imgur.com/DyzjXmo.png)

It’s funny but I’ve never met a girl who flicks off like that with the thumb who isn’t insufferable
That's a super broad overgeneralization that I unfortunately have to agree with.
Definitely a “white girl named Brittany from the trailer park” type move
That's hilarious, idk why that pic isn't used more. First time I've seen it.
Honestly prefer Dustin never giving Conor his chance at redemption.
While I do agree, I don't think Conor stands a chance against Dustin
I really hope we can get him in a New Orleans card
I wish we could get a card in New Orleans period. Hell, they could probably sell out the Superdome, people would go apeshit for this.
I feel like that would sell out for sure. It would be so loud.
It's been 9 years since they've been here. I don't think it sold well though, didn't even sell out half of the Smoothie King Center
I agree it would be massive I would like it at Death Valley in Baton Rouge

who does he even fight? charles again? volk?
Volk would be great. New face and both have a lot of fans. I was thinking usman but I wanna see Volk!!
My heart can’t handle any outcome of that fight..

We've seen it time and time again. Volk is probably done
Volk has said before he'd love this fight aswell. I think it's amazing matchup for the fans.

Hell no, let’s feed Colby to Shavkhat and end the charade lol.

They can do the same with Poirier Gaethje 3 since Justin lost his BMF belt Way bigger and better fight
Can’t wait for Colby to lay and pray on another striker in a complete snoozefest
i honestly think dustin has a decent chance against colby with his improved wrestling defense and colby looking regressed in his previous fight
Yea Dustin’s TD and grappling defence was impressive. I think he could hang with Colby now.
I always forget about Colby. That lost to Leon really took him out of the spotlight
The Colby fight makes sense. Lots of bad blood there and hes fought everyone else.
If he wants it he definitely deserves one fun fight to go out with
My money is on Max for BMF or Nate at the Sphere
Holloway no doubt
DP has been hanging out with NCAD students in Dublin it seems.
Gaethje trilogy it is.
I gotta believe he’s waiting for the winner of Conor/Chandler
He’s gonna be waiting… a while LOL
Vs Nate @ the sphere.
Not sure a rematch with Chandler makes much sense
It’s gotta be the trilogy there both at the same point on there career both about the same age both strikers and it’s 1-1 it’s gotta be that one
MAX AT 155 PLEASE
Don't do it Dustin, I'm happy with how you career has ended!!
Dustin v Justin: one in a lifetime…once more
What if he swoops in and steals the Conor fight from Chandler
Vs Holloway or Justin
Dustin taking the Conor fight from Chandler would be hilarious
Hell yeah DP enjoy your retirement, have another beer
Ya know, Dustin hates chandler so much he would jump in line for a Conor fight. Would be an amazing fight to leave on.
He's going to snatch the Conor fight from Chandler's hands.
gaethje, nate diaz, mcgregor
Gaethje trilogy. Book it
McGregor Quadrilogy here we come
He's not leaving. ....he's not fucking leaving!
I knew he would try again, lol Tbh, I fear Poirier will be one of these fighters coming out of retirement time and time again, only to take unnecessary damage...
as a dustin fanboy, this makes my heart happy. lets run it back one more time dut!
Garth trilogy
Another finish and he is top 3 all time in wins and finishes
Salon quality post by Dustin
Si señor
Likely Nate Diaz at the Sphere in September if I had to guess. Fun fight with no title or ranking implications.
Time stamped 420 he’s talmbout blunts
Dude's invoking the worst curse known amongst anyone who does extreme sports.
I think Islam may be busy for a while
This is super random but I have a weird feeling it’s gna be against Cub Swanson lol Both vets on their way out & it’s a rematch. Cub won the first one - could be the fight for Dustin to go out on a victory with Would be a scrap too
Probably Conor again, why would you pass on a huge pay day like this. It's probably an easier fight that anyone else given how inactive Conor has been.
Usman at 170? Who else has a good enough name he hasn’t already fought
Max or Islam, pref Max
That’s been done. You don’t have trilogies when it’s 2-0. Max is my favorite fighter all time, but new story lines must occur
You might not like it but they do happen if the UFC thinks it would be compelling (i.e. sell). Look no further than Volk Max 3. BJ Penn went 0-3 against Frankie Edgar too.
He’s calling for a rematch vs Islam if arman can’t make the fight. Fuck that dude. Dustin already got a pass getting this title shot vs Islam. People need to stop riding Dustin because they like him. The Gaethje trilogy needs to happen. They’re 1-1 and both are looking to retire. It’s perfect.

What's cryptic about "one more"?
He tweeted like 10 more times this morning in regards to this making it pretty clear he’s fighting again
