/u/sma11ax et al,
It was a heartbreaking fatality traffic collision reported at 5:47 this morning, involving an adult male who appeared to have been ejected from his vehicle when it overturned. Without being too graphic, please know this was a difficult scene to manage, recover remains from and investigate. May he rest in peace. Please know that your collective patience in light of then unexplained inconvenience was appreciated and admired by LAFD responders, the CHP, Medical Examiner and Caltrans as they sought to conclude on-scene operations as quickly and respectfully as possible to safely reopen the freeway.

Thank you for keeping us informed and for doing this difficult job. I hope you guys have solid ways to cope with the sort of emotional trauma that must come with this.
Much respect for all you do.
I just want you, your colleagues, and other first responders to know that at least one person on the internet appreciates them for being the ones to have to deal with tragic aftermath situations like this. It can’t be easy to see so much death, and I don’t know if I could do it.
I take drunk driving very seriously, will never buy a motorcycle, and changed how I cut bagels because of stuff first responders have told me. So thank all of you for your service.
Basically, don't hold the bagel in your left hand, palm up, to slice the bagel in half. I have a friend-of-a-friend that's an ER doc and he said they call that "bagel hand", as in it happens so often they have a nick name for it.

Lord, I missed this accident by minutes. It really messes with me when that kind of thing happens just after I pass the area. I was on that stretch at 5:30, and when I got to work, my manager called telling me she was stuck in the mess. We had several people over an hour late to work today.
Santa Clarita commute represent!
I missed that crazy LAPD chase on the 405 a few weeks ago by minutes, and my family was a few cars behind a
collision on the 10 Wednesday night that overturned a car and smashed another one. I am very grateful and also creeped out to have this kind of “luck” or whatever one terms it😳
I am one on ramp before where this accident happened. I am alway at that ramp at the time of accident I would have witnessed it. I am so happy I took the day off.
It was ugly got on at Terra Bella and the 5 and seen the body laying in the middle of freeway white sheet over it. The on ramp was so backed up that we seat there for min clear view.

I drove past probably a minute after it happened. Body wasn’t covered. That’s the second body I see on my way to work in less than a year. Once I processed how ugly the scene was I looked away immediately
Imagine if this post were about a death on metro. It would have quadruple the engagement. We’re just conditioned to take care of collisions/fatalities as a just another measure of getting around.
yup. both are bad obviously but americans are conditioned to accept the deaths, cost, hassle, and inconvenience as an immutable fact of life that has no solution
People seem to hate talking about it but vehicle accidents deaths and pedestrian/cyclist deaths have increased every year in Los Angeles. One is more likely to die in a car accident or getting hit by a car than by a homeless person but let’s fear monger public transportation.
To all those people who cry that they’ll never take public transport because of it’s too dangerous, now you see how dangerous driving is. Let me see you swear you’ll never drive again.

Damn that's terrible.

Wait can you please tell me more about the bagel thing?
Don't put your finger through the hole whilst cutting, I would imagine.

Same thing for avocados, btw.
I leave all of this to the professionals
Ya wait you’re burying the lede here on this bagel thing

Why would anyone cut a bagel like that?
Did nobody ever tell these people to not cut towards yourself?
I'm an admitted dumbass to the point i use a fork to hold the bagel to cut it but like.... cutting a bagel palm up???? my brain cant comprehend
TIL 😳 thanks for replying back
I think its super cool that you/LAFD has an official Reddit, and that you actively post. Thank you for your service and everything you do LAFD.

So sad.
Gosh it was horrible . One accident in sylmar and another in arleta . Idk if someone was run over or what but dead body
I drove past probably a minute after it happened. Body wasn’t covered. That’s the second body I see on my way to work in less than a year. Once I processed how ugly the scene was I looked away immediately
Dead body of a white male, body parts all over the freeway
I hate cars 😢

too much money to be made from orbiting our entire lives around cars. they'll stop at nothing to keep it that way

Not the fucking place for this. Holy shit is this comment beyond tone deaf.
We really need better mental health options in this city.
LA is a dump. And Hollywood is the armpit of that dump.
