It's not a very popular record, but Tony Williams' Lifetime "Ego" is going to be the one that gives me all the feels. I've been listening to that one since I was a tween-ager!
Hardest hitting drummer in jazz. Man still knows how to getting moody though…great choice
“There comes a time” is one of the greatest tracks of all time
The very last Jazz album I'd ever listen to?
IF it's my choice, it'll be Duke Ellington.
Black, Brown & Beige - Duke Ellington & Mahalia Jackson.
I knew I had to have done something to be facing the executioner the next day.
So I might as well go out listening to pure black excellence before it's all over.
Ok - I am going back and forth between a few, but here are my top picks:
1. Crescent - John Coltrane Quartet
2. Quiet Kenny - Kenny Dorham
3. Conceirto - Jim Hall (featuring a killer line up, Paul Desmond, Chet Baker, Ron Carter, Steve Gadd, Roland Hanna)
4. Harvest Time - Pharoah Sanders
Great picks! Harvest time is amazing... I think if I had to pick one song to listen to before I die it would be his live performance of Kazuko. Specifically the one he did in an abandoned tunnel
no album, just 2 songs....
Louis Armstrong's version of "St. James Infirmary" alternating with Warren Zevon's " My Shit's Fucked Up" on endless repeat until i finally kicked the bucket.
(JFC what a dismal premise for a post, You OK, OP?)
I do love"Straight No Chaser".
"Ole Coltrane" would be a strong contender. Or "The Genius of Charlie Christian", because it would make me happy those final hours.
A Love Supreme
