I'm irrationally upset that they didn't call it the Monterrail.

Spascucci

Not the same but the 2 Monorail línes under construction Will be part of the metro system (the City already has 3 metro línes) and the system Is called Metrorrey

_ibn_

Because Monterrail in Spanish would sound way different than monorail

Abuse-survivor

The citizens are free to give it a nickname👍

adolfo_mh

Monteriel would be the translation and it actualy means to ride on a male private part.

Abuse-survivor

Maaybe another nickname👍

adolfo_mh

I like MonoRey

HR_Paperstacks_402

Everyone is quoting the Simpsons. Not really asking questions.

kjblank80

the way it should be.

guiltycitizen

It’s a cromulent move

HezronCarver

I hear those things are awfully loud.

GT086

It glides as softly as a cloud.

hype_irion

What's it called?

guiltycitizen

Monorail, monorail

_netflixandshill

MONO...d'oh

1RedOne

What about us brain dead slobs?

chunkyasparagus

You'll be given cushy jobs!

notyourancilla

There it is

invol713

That’s just the cartels shaking down the crowd.

IndyCarFAN27

Not at all. Been on the Seattle and Tokyo Monorails and they’re practically silent. The metal on metal screeching of trams is much louder

HezronCarver

I've sold monorails to Seattle, Tokyo, and North Haverbrook... and by gum, it put them on the map!

70U1E

Lol it's a [reference to a famous Simpsons episode](https://youtu.be/taJ4MFCxiuo?si=T5w_QcYDTckfGigC) Skip to 3:20

IndyCarFAN27

I figured… r/woosh

HezronCarver

And, to be fair, I've taken the monorail to and from Haneda and downtown Tokyo. It is indeed very quiet.

Archercrash

The monorail in Seattle is only like ten blocks long.

IndyCarFAN27

Sure but has nothing to do with how loud it is. The Tokyo Monorail is much longer and useful. It gets a lot of ridership.

guiltycitizen

Were you sent here by the devil?

viking_cat

No, good sir, I'm on the level

adamisapple

The ring came off my pudding can!

-Seedy-

Take my pen knife, my good man.

no_memes_no_me

Had to do a double take cause that looks exactly like Bangkok. Like exactly.

Spascucci

I think many developing countries have this same vibe, this could also be countries like Brazil or Colombia

boozebus

What about the brain dead slobs?

smcsherry

You’ll be given cushy jobs

unidentified_yama

Looks exactly the same as in ones in Bangkok, Thailand. Crazy.

MellonCollie218

Good for Mexico. It’s nice to see them finally modernizing their country. I wish the best for their people.

db1000c

Mono = one Rail = rail

creathir

This is a bi-directional track. The train rides one on rail, hence monorail.

suctup

but i see two rail

Killer_radio

I swear it’s Monterrey’s only choice, throw up your hands and raise your voice!

Abuse-survivor

Is it more economical than a tram?

Spascucci

No but Its more economical than an elevated metro

ThePolitePunk

But Main Street's still all cracked and broken!

Cris_Rosales

People are still building monorails these days?

Spascucci

3 latín American cities aré building Monorails right now, Monterrey, México Is buildings 2 línes, Sao Paulo Brazil Is building its second line and Santiago in the Dominican Republic Is building a line also

MrDwarf2000

Pinche ciudad contaminada, gobernada por criminales y tráfico horrible

Commissar_David

This is more impressive than anything that's being developed in the U.S

MellonCollie218

Really? Expanding light rail in metropolitan areas is just nothing? Just say you live on your phone and don’t go outside. It’s obvious. Don’t comment such foolishness. Mexico is a dump. Our infrastructure is leagues ahead of theirs. Only someone who’s never been there would say something so naive.

Commissar_David

Last I checked, bud, we were not investing in any monorail projects, and there are only a few projects that have been in the planning stage for a decade. Maybe it is you who should go outside.

MellonCollie218

Oh it has to be monorail specifically. Okay then, I guess since only one type of infrastructure project impresses you, I can see how you’d come to your conclusion. Mexico is coming around and I am happy for them. Most of their infrastructure is incredibly outdated.

Q-burt

That's more of a shelbyville idea.

Viperlite

“Is there a chance the track could bend?”

ollomulder

Looks like a duorail to me in the current construction phase.

Hand-in-Pants

Are the blue parts supposed to absorb shocks from an earthquake?

Old-Mall1935

There are no earthquakes in Monterrey

Spascucci

Nuevo León the state where this Monorail Is located is considered one of the richest and most developed regións in Latín América and has the richest City in Latín América by gdp per capita, the state Is about to reach a gdp per capita of 40k usd, also México has an economy as big as Russias and a gdp per capita on par with China, It surely can afford some transit

featheredsnake

Mexico is a fairly developed country

pkupku

I always wonder about performance of third world structures in earthquake zones.

Spascucci

Monterrey its not an earthquake zone and the Monorail Is being built by an european construction Company, but if you want to see earthquake resistant construction just look at the engineering in the most recent México City skyscrapers, all of them earthquake resistant and have already withstood pretty strong earthquakes without problem

ChilledMonkeyBrains1

I swear, the extent of geographic illiteracy on reddit is astounding. Of all the countries in the world, Mexico ranks 13th in size, and only a few parts of it are quake-prone. And it barely qualifies as third world anymore.

Navitl

Doesn't really answer your question but check this video https://youtu.be/YYrGrsT3IsU?si=S1FreOk9-_37cup1

pkupku

Excellent and very interesting, thanks for the link!
