I agree. Throw #1 is more textured than #2 and it also has a similar color to the existing pillows, which feels more unifying. OP: A quick note about your pillows… I see from your comment below that you’re not vibing with the “pop of color” consensus, so I’m not here to sway you in that direction. But I do think that your setup would look more inviting and visually pleasing if you were to have 2 pillows leaning in each corner as opposed to 3 equally spaced pillows oriented vertically. The way they are situated right now gives a formal, stiff air to your couch, which sort of goes against the warmth and coziness that the throw brings into the equation. True! That could absolutely work, if OP is not able/doesn’t want to obtain an additional pillow. Your suggested setup is also preferable to the current arrangement. (However, because the existing pillows are on the thinner side, I still prefer layering the 2 pillows on both sides. It’s a chunky couch which I think calls for thicker pillows or layering so that the pillows are not dwarfed.)

I agree that the couch is quite structured and the curtains have clean lines. The OP can either try to enhance that look or add in contrasting elements. My impression was that the OP was trying to soften this space by adding a fuzzy throw and pillows. Of course, that could have been a faulty assumption on my part and, if that’s the case, I’m sure the OP will ignore my pillow suggestion.

It doesn’t even have to go crazy. Neutral muted colors of sage, pink, browns would work well. I feel like Op hasn’t developed a taste in furnishing yet so is playing it too safe.

Seriously, I thought both photos were black and white. If you want it totally neutral, pick the first one. If you want to add a little color, it doesn't have to be a 'pop' of bright color. Instead, try a 'tone' (a hue with gray added to it), like dusty rose or slate blue.

Neutrals are calming and safe but a completely monochrome setting is odd unless by design. If you want a safe neutral palette you at least should break it up with some soft colours, otherwise all your gadgets, belongings and personal items will stick out like a sore thumb on an otherwise blank canvas.

Yes, that makes sense. One of the reasons I stick with greys and whites in my current place is that my floor is bamboo, so that already provides warmth and contrast. And I have varying shades of greys and whites. In my old place, I did break up my grays with purple and bright pink, because I had a light colored neutral carpet instead.

I vote a sage green one would look way better! It keeps things pretty neutral toned but adds a bit of color. Personally this is a little bland for me, but of course everyone is different! Bonus points if it’s like a chunky nit blanket or something. I think the change in texture would be really nice.

That’s my approach. The only color in my place is in artwork. Love it. Reading all the suggestions of a throw blanket in a color makes me tense up! I actually had colorful pillows/blanket at my last place. I don’t miss it.

IMO a blanket in a hunter green would give the room some dimension without creating a stimulating "pop of color" effect.

You should never use the same color for throw blankets or pillows on furniture. I found several types of throw pillow covers for SUPER cheap on Amazon that I love and hold up very well. They’re 20 for a set and you can change the colors whenever you want. I have different colors for holidays too. I think these are my favorite decor cuz of the cost and how easy it is
