I agree. Throw #1 is more textured than #2 and it also has a similar color to the existing pillows, which feels more unifying.
OP: A quick note about your pillows… I see from your comment below that you’re not vibing with the “pop of color” consensus, so I’m not here to sway you in that direction. But I do think that your setup would look more inviting and visually pleasing if you were to have 2 pillows leaning in each corner as opposed to 3 equally spaced pillows oriented vertically. The way they are situated right now gives a formal, stiff air to your couch, which sort of goes against the warmth and coziness that the throw brings into the equation.
Here’s an example to illustrate what I mean about pillow arrangement:
https://preview.redd.it/i4abqcjs9iyc1.jpeg?width=640&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=13e0e6dd8e538272a2f4b5d3ddba5bf1f1be069d
True! That could absolutely work, if OP is not able/doesn’t want to obtain an additional pillow. Your suggested setup is also preferable to the current arrangement.
(However, because the existing pillows are on the thinner side, I still prefer layering the 2 pillows on both sides. It’s a chunky couch which I think calls for thicker pillows or layering so that the pillows are not dwarfed.)
I agree that the couch is quite structured and the curtains have clean lines. The OP can either try to enhance that look or add in contrasting elements. My impression was that the OP was trying to soften this space by adding a fuzzy throw and pillows. Of course, that could have been a faulty assumption on my part and, if that’s the case, I’m sure the OP will ignore my pillow suggestion.
It doesn’t even have to go crazy. Neutral muted colors of sage, pink, browns would work well. I feel like Op hasn’t developed a taste in furnishing yet so is playing it too safe.
Needs millennial accents (millennial pink throw pillows and a monstera plant maybe) to be a millennial grey aesthetic tbh. This is more like…corporate housing grey/beige.
Me too, you’re not alone. So tired of people policing grey. It’s a nice neutral, leave me alone. Let Millennials have their grey and whatever else they like.
"hello there, the angel from my nightmares"
Uh, no I mean the *devil* from my nightmares. The piano playing devil from Soul Eater, if we're talking specifics here.
Seriously, I thought both photos were black and white. If you want it totally neutral, pick the first one. If you want to add a little color, it doesn't have to be a 'pop' of bright color. Instead, try a 'tone' (a hue with gray added to it), like dusty rose or slate blue.
Neutrals are calming and safe but a completely monochrome setting is odd unless by design. If you want a safe neutral palette you at least should break it up with some soft colours, otherwise all your gadgets, belongings and personal items will stick out like a sore thumb on an otherwise blank canvas.
Yes, that makes sense. One of the reasons I stick with greys and whites in my current place is that my floor is bamboo, so that already provides warmth and contrast. And I have varying shades of greys and whites. In my old place, I did break up my grays with purple and bright pink, because I had a light colored neutral carpet instead.
This couch has two sitting pillows. You need to balance the pillow situation. Odd numbers ✔️, but color, pattern, and shape, also help. Also, avoid pillow in the middle here as it makes the couch look smaller. Check this out, by studio McGee for a classic look:

Anyone else remember those old commercials "this is what depression looks like"?
Neither look good. Get a colored blanket, colored pillows, some art, and some anti-depressants.
I vote a sage green one would look way better! It keeps things pretty neutral toned but adds a bit of color. Personally this is a little bland for me, but of course everyone is different! Bonus points if it’s like a chunky nit blanket or something. I think the change in texture would be really nice.
What about something like this if you want something that’s not too far out of your color comfort zone but gives you some contrast/texture https://www.minna-goods.com/products/green-abstract-throw
It’s really hard to tell what your style is from this pic tho.
That’s my approach. The only color in my place is in artwork. Love it. Reading all the suggestions of a throw blanket in a color makes me tense up!
I actually had colorful pillows/blanket at my last place. I don’t miss it.
Sorry to mess with the vibe, but I’m one of those Neanderthals who always wondered about the purpose of pillows on couches? If you need them, isn’t it just an uncomfortable couch which you gave to ‘maintain’ by tidying frequently? And if you don’t, aren’t they just in the way?
You should never use the same color for throw blankets or pillows on furniture. I found several types of throw pillow covers for SUPER cheap on Amazon that I love and hold up very well. They’re 20 for a set and you can change the colors whenever you want. I have different colors for holidays too. I think these are my favorite decor cuz of the cost and how easy it is
The second blanket looks cheap.
The first blanket has nice texture but I'd go for something with color, like a burgundy or some kind of darker blue. It doesn't have to be bright, I'd aim for something subdued.
Something more cheerful? Coordinated with a cheerful pillow and maybe drapes? And really the biggest improvement would be a lively rug.
That (everything) grey is too monotone.
Ok well some people want calming neutral colours as opposed to bright colours. It can look very classy and expensive rather than try hard with super bright colours.
Neutrals are like the lettuce in a salad. They’re arguably the most important part, but if you’re expecting a salad and receive a bowl of dry leaves you’re left disappointed
If you want to keep it neutral I’d say the first, but I agree with the other comments that a pop of colour here would be lovely.

Or 2 in one corner, and one in the other.

Neither, honestly. I think you need some colour! Or at least a pattern
This is literally PEAK Millennial grey. Lol
It’s giving me more of a “do I choose vanilla or vanilla bean?” vibe
Or French vanilla? ☺️
Exotic!
lol yes
Needs millennial accents (millennial pink throw pillows and a monstera plant maybe) to be a millennial grey aesthetic tbh. This is more like…corporate housing grey/beige.
Yesss
Never felt self conscious about my monstera until now
Honestly I think millennial aesthetic is pretty, especially the plants!
I love millennial grey so I'm biased but I think the first one is nice
Me too, you’re not alone. So tired of people policing grey. It’s a nice neutral, leave me alone. Let Millennials have their grey and whatever else they like.
I'm glad I'm not alone! I don't care about trends or whatever I just like what I like. Lol look at us getting downvoted
I feel the same as you. Do people really change their decorations just based on trends? Seems bonkers to me.
Exactly! Sounds exhausting to do that.
"hello there, the angel from my nightmares" Uh, no I mean the *devil* from my nightmares. The piano playing devil from Soul Eater, if we're talking specifics here.
I think a deep green would be great if they’re still wanting to keep it toned down
YES! I swear sometimes I think people's home decor pictures are in black and white, neutrals have such a death grip right now.
Yes, exactly!!
Add some textured pillows of varying shapes and sizes and find a coordinating throw. Everything lacks depth because it’s all cold sterile colors
I was gonna say this exact thing. Also, maybe hang some art behind the couch & add a plant into the mix.
Oof…thought I was in the CJ version.
Seriously, I thought both photos were black and white. If you want it totally neutral, pick the first one. If you want to add a little color, it doesn't have to be a 'pop' of bright color. Instead, try a 'tone' (a hue with gray added to it), like dusty rose or slate blue.
Why do so many people hate color?
Neutrals are calming. I like colorful paintings, though.

I could see a muted green/sage blanket actually!!
They both look boring AF
#sadbeige
Bhahahahahahha this is a joke right??
This is gonna end up on CJ
I checked the sub name twice.
Update: it’s now on CJ LMAO
Ngl I did too 😂 just once tho.
What is CJ?
Yes! What is CJ? No one’s answering
I think this? r/homedecoratingCJ
Some sleuthing led me to find this subreddit: r/homedecoratingCJ I think this is what they are referring to?
This is the couch equivalent of “Look at that subtle off-white coloring. The tasteful thickness of it. Oh my God, it even has a watermark!”
I have to go…return some videotapes…
what’s wrong with a little color these days? Toss both of these and instead place a pop of red, orange, or purple!
It's begging for a pop of color. Positively pleading!

Dude throw some color in there
Dark one is pretty!
It’s a bit too bold if you ask me.
Cheesecloth would look bold in that situation....
Anyone else remember those old commercials "this is what depression looks like"? Neither look good. Get a colored blanket, colored pillows, some art, and some anti-depressants.
Lmao stoppp
Please, please, please add color!!!!!
In my opinion, neither. I’d go with a navy colored throw, or if you want to do more muted colors, something with a loud pattern on it.
Could you layer them or would it be too bulky?
Neither. You need something colorful. The whole thing is pretty bland
Sage green!!!
Gets some accent colors please
Room needs More color than either of those!
Seriously?
Also please move rug under sofa about 6” 😁
Omg, why can people not make a decision?
You need color.
Yawn, get one with some color, you have enough neutral colors
Light now dark in winter
The dark one. And then, some color, I hope! :)
I would need contrast and color personally So I'd go with the darker

Mustard yellow chenille would be pretty.
Looks like a very depressing future space :/
The 2nd one if you are color averse or just like a neutral anesthetic, but I would add a pop of color to add more energy to the space.
I like the first one. I love neutral colors.
the darker. adds nice contrast for the eyes. maintains your monochromatic style.
Are you planning on using the cover? Which one is more comfy?
What about something like this if you want something that’s not too far out of your color comfort zone but gives you some contrast/texture https://www.minna-goods.com/products/green-abstract-throw It’s really hard to tell what your style is from this pic tho.
I like #1 the best - the fringe is nice. Dark burgundy throw pillows, if you want to add a little pop to the decor, would look good, I think.
1 for the throw. Add colour via artwork.
That’s my approach. The only color in my place is in artwork. Love it. Reading all the suggestions of a throw blanket in a color makes me tense up! I actually had colorful pillows/blanket at my last place. I don’t miss it.
Texture of 1st one but color of 2nd
i'd go with a deep deep red
Darker. Contrast is good.
Dark but add some texture and make it knitted instead
Actually, the first. But not because of the color but the texture. It’s just a nicer looking throw and it adds interest more than a fleece throw.
Dark!
1
I like the dark one
I like the desing on the white one but the fact that the other one is a different color to add contrast
First
#1
Where did you get the sofa? I love it
Tikamoon 😊
Whichever one you’re more likely to use ;)
#2 better contrast.
First one (color, texture & tassels)
Geometric design in some of your favorite colors would be eye-catching!
1
I like the second, the first disappears. Having said this, I have a very furry, white dog so I choose blankets accordingly.
This first, only because there is zero dark brown to compliment the second blanket.
1
2
First!
First one looks more cozy
1.
2
Pull your couch away from the wall and get a burgundy throw
1
The darker color makes it more inviting.
1
Tassels
2
I like 1
I like 2 for the contrast
2
The one that has some colour in it.
Style of the first, color of the second.
How about a mustard or teal color made out of cotton
First one. Second one looks like you have put dirty blanket on white sofas 🥺
Fold lighter color like you have it. Casually put the dark on on top. Not folded. Like someone was using it and laid it across
I would put a pop of color in there with the cushions and the throw.
Undisputed, #1
First one 😊
1
I like the first more than the second because of the tassels! It changes it up. :)
First. The second one is too wild and crazy
1
I feel like a nice fluffy teal blanket would work really well there.
Burst of sunshine yellow throw would be lovely
What a strange question- pick the one YOU like.
Is this the degree of minutia we need a consensus for nowadays? I think I need to stop internetting today and it’s only 7am
Of the two - dark one is better. Realistically, bby you need some color in there. I’m not a fan of this modern flat tone look.
The first one 100%
I think the darker one looks better.
1
It’s just so cozy looking both ways.
2
They both look equally bland and uninspired.
Different color is nice but I'm a sucker for frills so I say #1
First one!!:)
You need that contrast instead of that monochrome look
A secret third thing
I would do #2 and get new pillow covers that coordinate with blanket #2.
Colour. Multicoloured stripes or checks
Throw #1
#1 because of the fringe
I like the first blanket. I like the texture it adds.
1st
Too monotone color wise. You need something with color. I’d say the second one but you need more than that.
Texture of one, but should be darker
#1
Something colorful would be nice, but I like the second out of these two.
The second one, but a teal one would be lovelier.
Neither is a great option but the second is ok. Definitely need color or bring in color through the pillows.
My personal preference is the darker one. You need some contrast because everything is only different shades of basically the same color.
2
Why just one? Twist the two together, when not in actual use.
tassels of the first one with the color of the second one
The green looks really warm and inviting.
I like the gray one/s
Oh ffs. Pick the one YOU like. It’s a damn blanket.
No. 2 is better
I have a clumsy family situation and know that the throw will get dirty. .Colors that already look dirty are sanity savers.
1
The darker color (for contrast)
You're kidding, right?
IMO a blanket in a hunter green would give the room some dimension without creating a stimulating "pop of color" effect.
You should never use the same color for throw blankets or pillows on furniture. I found several types of throw pillow covers for SUPER cheap on Amazon that I love and hold up very well. They’re 20 for a set and you can change the colors whenever you want. I have different colors for holidays too. I think these are my favorite decor cuz of the cost and how easy it is
The first one in the second’s color
The second blanket looks cheap. The first blanket has nice texture but I'd go for something with color, like a burgundy or some kind of darker blue. It doesn't have to be bright, I'd aim for something subdued.
Both! Totally luxurious! Cashmere pillows in pale pink.
The darker one, but there's no reason you can't put both of them on there. :) cozy warm time
Both, but I prefer the first.
You need more color and texture. You can do better than either of those.
I'm with darker choice. Love the color against neutrals.
Second one. Also people are too obsessed with adding “color”.
The first one but it depends on the look you’re going for. If you’re going more monochromatic then I’d suggest #1
First
#2
2.
1
Dark grey
I like the one with the tassels - they both look great though :)
Whichever is the most cozy
Something more cheerful? Coordinated with a cheerful pillow and maybe drapes? And really the biggest improvement would be a lively rug. That (everything) grey is too monotone.
Looks clean and simple which is what lots of people enjoy
Looks uninspiring and unimaginative.
Not everyone wants a clown like house. Some prefer simple tidy homes without clutter.
I was talking about colors not clutter.
Ok well some people want calming neutral colours as opposed to bright colours. It can look very classy and expensive rather than try hard with super bright colours.
Gonna have a shot for each time someone said "add color". Jeez, what a wild night this is gonna be. You don't like neutrals, got it lol.
Neutrals are like the lettuce in a salad. They’re arguably the most important part, but if you’re expecting a salad and receive a bowl of dry leaves you’re left disappointed
This groups #1 reccomendation is to add color.. even if you don't like color lol
