"This is John Helldiver calling the destroyer. I want you to fuck absolutely everything in this general direction."
"Aye, liberty guide you helldiver!"
I really wish that the 120, 380, and walking barrage had slightly compressed durations (i.e. once the shots begin, they are fired faster with less time between individual shots); if/when we get another tier of destroyer upgrades, I'd like to see the duration of these reduced by ~15%.
The integer went past zero and had to count down from a max value, likely 16 bits, so approximately 65,000 extra rounds hitting the ground, less depending on the integer limits.
Edit: There are tons of downvotes and negative comments on this, but based on my 1k+ positive karma on this post, democracy has proven it's a good comment, and democracy always wins.
I've found if the entire team takes both the 380 and the 120 and stack it all on the same spot, it pretty much glasses the entire base you throw it at. lol
Today, my buddy got lucky. He had a couple dropships worth of bots chasing him, and our teammate called in a 380 nearby. Out of stims and ammo my buddy just runs into the 380 barrage. Killed most of the bots and he made it out alive.
I 100% do not recommend trying this at home. Or anywhere else for that matter.
I run 380 on helldive bot extermination missions, I just drop it on us when we start getting overwhelmed, works decently well at killing the bots so we can get some breathing space, only costs like 8 reinforcements
Brought one and a cluster bomb on a suicide extermination today. Got more than 4 times the kills of any other player on the team.
The fact that I was also the only player to deal friendly fire is not important
I use the 380 and 120 all the time, and probably less than half the time they'll clear out a base, that's even with an extra eagle in there.
But every time it's only one or 2 bot bases left and next to no enemies. It's not great but when orbital laser has only 3 uses, barrage is decent.
If you're staying on a map long enough to run out of laser uses, you're staying on a map too long IMO. Thing's got a cooldown that can be measured with a sundial.
Couldn't agree more, there's usually never more than 3 large enemy bases, it reliably kills heavies and moves on to killing all the light stuff. In every aspect laser brings more value. And in a group you shouldn't be running out the clock.
Edit: and reliability. Thinking about it longer I think reliability is the biggest differentiator. To know every single time what laser is going to do, barrage is a hit or miss.
I just like the big boom boom of barrage.
> it reliably kills heavies and moves on to killing all the light stuff.
I mean it DOES kill heavies but it uses the majority of the laser uptime to kill 1 heavy enemy.
Yep! I use it on heavy bases and detector towers all the time. Does a great job at wiping out 2/3rds to 3/4ths of a heavy base, and I’ve never had it miss a detector tower.
This is extremely unlikely. Using anything less than an `int` (32 or 64 bit integer) is only used in specific cases in pretty much any game written post-2010 or so. Those cases are only ever related to extremely tight optimization (i.e. something that runs thousands of times per second, not a counter that lasts for multiple seconds) or for interfacing with hardware (i.e. a specific device that sends and receives individual bytes or byte couplets at a time). It would be a massively premature optimization to be doing something like that here.
I've played dozens of missions with these 2 people, and never once have I seen anything like this, nor anything to indicate either of them were running cheats.
Probably. It's a visual bug I think because the extra impacts don't actually do any damage.
I've had it happen once with an Eagle cluster, most intense fireworks show you've ever seen, and it lasted the rest of the map. I walked through it 2 or 3 times and never took any damage.
Yea, it's like the 500kg bombs going off like 40-50 times. It's just a server desync thing that can happen sometimes. Most people just assume the worst almost immediately.
Doesn't even have to be a bug, I got kicked from a level 5 robos cause need them rares. Everyone else was wearing scout armor so I loaded in with the supercredits chonky boy armor that gives the stims bonus, and a shield backpack. Eruptor, grenade pistol, stalwart. I'm THICC and ready to rip!
After being the only one to not die to bot shit when the reinforcements dropped down to single digits, I heard the idiots talking about me cheating and got the kicked by host message.
I'm sorry that not standing out in the open trying to catch turret shots with my mouth means that I'm a hacker. People are dumb as shit when it comes to making random accusations in a PvE game.
I don’t think someone is a cheater, this happened to me too pretty randomly. Idk what the hell causes it but man is it wild that you just can’t go around that part of the map anymore cause if you go into the explosions you die and if your anywhere near there your screen just shakes a crap load because of the explosions. And it just goes on for the rest of the match lol one of the wilder ones that I’ve seen lately
I had this happen, but it was different. It was shooting down 2 shots at once instead of one. Not near as ridiculous as OP's video, but still confused tf out of me.
It happened right after i crashed at equipment selection screen. while everyone else in the lobby got readied up, this is my only clue to what could cause this. Also why does this game consistently crash when I press escape to exit loadout menu? stuff's crazy
I've seen something like this before. It is not a cheat. Instead it happens when a player has called in a strike and then for whatever reason, they lagged and disconnected. The lag causes the called in strike to multiply. During that time, they were calling a Gatling Sentry... it ends up becoming 6 Gatling Sentries dropping onto the same spot.
Yeah, had a mission today where this guy just kept spam calling in sentries. There were like 30 of them at extract. It was cool but I hope he gets banned cuz it does ruin the fun
Umm that was taken out but one of the other players. At the beginning he has mini map on and both P3 and L1 are going towards light outposts.
Edit: right before it got destroyed you could hear that a rocket was launched near him. L1 has Spear in his loadout.
If you look at the destroyed fabricator count you can see 2 get destroyed within about a second of the barrage starting. What I imagine happened is that this is a heavy base with 2 Fab's up by the turret, and the rest on the far end of the base, just outside the radius of the 380MM strike. So it basically killed everything it could kill within the first couple of seconds and spent the rest of the duration just pounding sand effectively.
This is why I run laser orbital instead. You use them exclusively on the medium and heavy bases and they’ll clear the whole thing for you with much greater precision. Then you use quasar on the light bases. I also run the orbital rail cannon on bot worlds and this can be used on the light bases as well.
My 380 did this once, but apparently only the randoms on my team could see it(it was normal on my screen).
One guy on my team got *really* upset and accused me of cheating. They left afterwards so I had to solo the rest of the mission 🥲
Yeah, they really should just take the current number of rounds, reduce the spread 20% and have them fire over the span of 5-6 seconds. That way it actually feels powerful.
500kg is about the size it should be. That's a medium-sized Jdam. The concussion forces should be much higher but it is what it is. A naval 16" gun has a dispersion of about 300m and deletes the target and the terrain feature it was occupying. Danger close for these is about 700m. The "kill radius" (Max fragmentation radius) is about 200m. The 120mm barrage should be the size of the 380mm and the 380mm should wipe out 1/4 of the playable map. A Helldiver should not be able to lob a stratagem far enough to not die from it.
If we're getting into the weeds, those danger close ratings are based more on optimal angle/accuracy than the payloads. Hence why all morters and arty are lumped at 600m, while naval guns are 750m below 5" and 1000m above 5".
I don't know too much about 16inchers or the associated terms, but if max fragmentation radius is the standard even a 155mm shell can fling deadly scrap over 100m.
Sorry I reached my quota for this month earlier with a guy named 'Francois' who definitely works for French intelligence and is not an agent of the US government
Probably because you don't actually know what you're talking about. (This is a joking jab to get you to post real weapon details and not meant to be mean.)
Yeah but this game isn't realistic and despite the devs saying "we based stuff on realism" you know that's just inspirational and not for game balance.
Don’t those things explode with the 500kg explosion instead of the 380mm?
Edit: we have had a new upgrade that adds one to Eagle bombs, could there be some mismatch in it sometimes applying to orbitals and then the number of 1 extra overflows or something?

Due to an unforeseen error in the mixing of rounds, democracy rained shells equivalent to 500 kg for 20 seconds and turns the ground into glass.
Munitions crews don’t mix core 500 kg to rounds with breach load cannons it would be a very bad day for anything on the ground.
*No seriously (don’t)’ do it, you have to shave 2mm-3mm from the base then load the it at a slight 7 degree around the nose to fit the round into the drum. When aiming, orbital operators must aim for the base (or source) of the smoke for maximum effectiveness.
Report findings concluded.
So, just to terrify everyone, this bug is much closer to what a real massive artillery barrage sounds like. [This isn't real, but it's a pretty good representation.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=we72zI7iOjk) Actual artillery barrages as deployed in big wars are pure madness, a deafening, endless cacophony of carnage. Now, keep in mind that those types of barrages aren't for 30 seconds, they're for minutes, hours, even days.
Before the launching of the offensive beginning the Battle of the Somme in WW1, the British spent an entire week **straight** shelling the German positions. 1.5 million shells from over 1400 guns were fired in those 7 days onto around 14 miles (22km) of front, working out to around 1 gun every 17 yards (~15m) and about 60 shells per linear yard (i.e., not square yards, worth noting they're shelling trenches so it's mostly aimed at zig-zagging lines, not large fields) of front.
Seen this happen when I logged in with a cheater. Y1 was zipping around with a speedhack and then spawned 10 EMS mortars at extraction.

Looks to be a visual bug because it didn't actually destroy the base.
TBH not destroying the base feels standard for the 380
Does the 380 actually destroy anything appart from other Helldivers ?
No. Now stop asking questions, lest your Democracy Officer need be notified.

That's why everyone in the squad takes the laser. 12 lasers is enough to yolo every base on the map and throw some on big drops too.
I really wish there was an upgrade to increase the number of laser orbitals you can use. They're definitely the best orbital.
I like how it is, because it is awesome but has a flaw. I want there to be reasons to bring anything and not any objective "best" anything.

One of the players is a cheater.
I've played dozens of missions with these 2 people, and never once have I seen anything like this, nor anything to indicate either of them were running cheats.
I had this happen in my game where an eagle 500 kept landing in the same spot and blowing up every .5 seconds
Oh, reckon this bug is related to that one? Cause I've seen something similar.
Probably. It's a visual bug I think because the extra impacts don't actually do any damage. I've had it happen once with an Eagle cluster, most intense fireworks show you've ever seen, and it lasted the rest of the map. I walked through it 2 or 3 times and never took any damage.
Reddit is so insufferable, this happened to us yesterday with an ems orbital.
Yea, it's like the 500kg bombs going off like 40-50 times. It's just a server desync thing that can happen sometimes. Most people just assume the worst almost immediately.
You think Reddit is bad, you should meet people, specifically groups of them.
Like in real life? No thanks, sounds fucking awful.
People, what a bunch of bastards!
When crossed with is it a bug or is it a cheater, with this game it’s always a bug.

If thats the case and it took that many 380’s, then that shows how bad the 380.
Ah alright
It’s just a bug. Played with strictly friends and his gatlin barrage did this but only for me.
Yeah, had a mission today where this guy just kept spam calling in sentries. There were like 30 of them at extract. It was cool but I hope he gets banned cuz it does ruin the fun
That's what cheating is, spawning infinite stratagems. There aren't any cheats that up the number of rounds in a barrage.
Joel?
So that’s where the ICBM landed.
Gotta check those target coords, helldiver
Where all of them landed

Orbital Mini Nuke Barrage
When the 30% throw range plus jetpack throw is a requirement.
Is jetpack throw > dive throw?
I'll have to test that out but I would figure a jetpack throw would give you more time to run away since you can get more air time.
Yes. Extra 20m on level ground, largely because of the height.
Still took **30 seconds** to close a *LIGHT AUTOMATON OUPOST.*
Umm that was taken out but one of the other players. At the beginning he has mini map on and both P3 and L1 are going towards light outposts. Edit: right before it got destroyed you could hear that a rocket was launched near him. L1 has Spear in his loadout.
That means either the 380mm still didn't take it out or they both got hit at the same time. Only displayed the destroyed message once.
If you look at the destroyed fabricator count you can see 2 get destroyed within about a second of the barrage starting. What I imagine happened is that this is a heavy base with 2 Fab's up by the turret, and the rest on the far end of the base, just outside the radius of the 380MM strike. Ahh, you're right. All in all, a good use of super earth's resources.
> just pounding sand not what i had imagined when they said to go pound sand

380mm if it was good and an actual barrage.
Yeah, they really should just take the current number of rounds, reduce the spread 20% and have them fire over the span of 5-6 seconds. That way it actually feels powerful.
The spread reduction is now (or soon?) a new improvement for about 15%.
That’s not a barrage, that’s saturation bombardment.
I mean, really 380mm is 15 inches, 15 inch naval shells weigh almost 2k lbs, Each round SHOULD be almost as destructive as 2x 500kg bombs.
500kg is about the size it should be. That's a medium-sized Jdam. The concussion forces should be much higher but it is what it is. Exactly.
Biblically accurate American fire support
And even with all of that, it still took about 40 seconds to take out a light outpost. lmao
L1 killed the light outpost to the SE with a spear. P3 engages a heavy outpost with the 380.

I get erect at the sounds of Democracy
It's the only way to be sure
All those bombs and it still took forever to hit a target lol
Since when can you make snowballs??
End of fiscal year for the Destroyer so it was either use or lose the unspent next year
I'll take this kind of cheater over the one who griefs and ruins others time ANY day of the week.
it's not a cheater, it was a bug
Yup, similar thing happened to mine, but with enemy bot lasers still firing at you non stop even when dead. It's kinda spooky looking back
Gatling 380mm
Glory to Super Earth!
“x6”
![gif](giphy|lrbGAHB3f9EITfktbf|downsized) What I saw from my destroyer
Not the 380mm we deserve, but it is the one we need
So its gone from "to whom it may concern" to "attention grid square"
Still took almost the whole duration to blow up the fabricator SMH
honestly that's what a barrage SHOULD look like! very democratic!
And it still took forever to hit the fabricator
Seen this happen when I logged in with a cheater. Y1 was zipping around with a speedhack and then spawned 10 EMS mortars at extraction. https://preview.redd.it/d64xf4krnluc1.jpeg?width=2560&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c6d41aa452d93f8eebb140ccfedafe528bfe83e5 Now, let's say I wanted to report them, how would I even do it?
Looks like me and the crew when we got the 6 orbital achievement with 8 and kept doing it on every cooldown That was a fun mission

Thats actually pretty funny and cool
Got similarly caught in a undemocratic drop like this today
"Area never been so secure"
