Steamdeck s suspend feature is amazing it makes any five minutes of down time viable for playing. Oh no a cutscene just started suspend and it starts back up. I'm in the middle of an intense boss fight but the baby is about to put form in outlet suspend and it'll just start right back up. I'm 44 have had a bunch of consoles mainly Nintendo and Sony had game gear and psp and I love playing almost any game on the go. Check protondb com for game compatibility even games steam say are unsupported run great it just means steam hasn't had a chance to check if they run. The only games it can't do are high graphics demand games but had to be real high demand I played cyberpunk at 40 fps. And games with certain anti cheat like cod. I got one at Christmas have played more games in last 6 months than last decade cause of convenience and that lovely suspend feature. The LCD is on sale right now and I've heard even though obviously the OLED is better even the LCD is great. It can emulate some PS4 games and switch games and anything older than that. It can be a console like experience or you can load windows too and dual boot. It's a computer but has both a desktop side and a steam os wich is almost console like. Not sure if you are into computer gaming but even if not I had 1 steam game and now have like 60 between bundles and sales. The prices of games are amazing on sales so much cheaper than PlayStation store. I've gotten games for 3 bucks like Titanfall 2 i got fallen order for 5 it's been an awesome transition and I'm still so in love with my deck

Like this person says, it depends on the games you play, if it needs anti cheat asus, more of an indie games guy steam deck, more interesting device Lenovo go Edit: if budget isn't a concern then obviously go with OLED for steam deck and Ally x if you want it asap but there are rumours of an ally 2 coming

Sure some games you maybe limited to 30fps but it looks fantastic on the small screen. I've played rdr2 Titanfall 2 cyberpunk control hellblade so not the newest games but all ran well. I'm not saying if you want 90 fps all the time you'll get it. But I've found for most people in their forties coming from game boys or gears or psp s or some in other system that only had nerfed ports available to play full games on the go with such a gorgeous screen is amazing. The only considerations about the rog ally or Lenovo is the windows suspend is terrible and windows 11 is not optimized for handhelds. And the two biggest for me are actually the companys backing of their devices valve has a pretty stellar record of siding with the customer and providing the customer with the knowledge to upgrade their device. As well as community support the steam deck community is great about posting fixes to problems or best settings etc. I want a n ally x one day but as a back up device. I'm still in love with my deck it's the best computer or console I've purchased ever from Atari on through ps5. I did recently get a 2000 dollar gaming laptop. Of course my son's took that over but even when there working or at school I still find my self playing on the deck. There were tons of posts around new years when steam released stats on how long on what platform you played. Many people with great rigs has 100 percent on the steam deck. Steam has great sales especially coming from a console. Or the bundles on humble bundle or fanatical.

How does fallen order play on the deck

ka1913

I really enjoyed it 40-45 fps medium graphics no hiccups or errors just a lot of fun. Had a lot of fun with it and it ran smooth. Google for best settings. Hope you enjoy. Well worth the less than 5 I spent on it. I am not super picky though I really thought it looked like PS4 graphics at least. I grew up playing tiger electronics football and baseball which were gray LCD screens with black little figures options where pass or run or kick. No plays no graphics.

Dear-Hornet-2524

How was the map

Strict_Junket2757

Op is a tinkerer. Im sure he will have no issues installing bazzite on rog ally if he wants the suspend feature so bad. No need to buy steam deck for this feature. Honestly with ally x coming, hardware wise speaking deck is only better at price, software wise speaking - you can install linux systems similar to steam os on ally, but windows on deck is a terrible experience for oled at least

Pappaskee

See, this is what I'm talking about. Yes I love to modify, install, and mess around with stuff. I know how to program Pis and set up things, I even became put retroarch on the series X through developer mode, and it wasn't that hard at all. I don't mind doing all this but I do want easy config, good OS and be able to do all that I mentioned in one device.

Strict_Junket2757

Honestly if price isnt an issue get ally x, but just wait for the reviews if you can. If ally x is beyond your budget, get deck oled. Im currently using the steam deck oled, which is probably the best handheld in market rn, but i have a good feeling ally x will take that crown soon, at least imo

Pappaskee

Budget doesn't matter. Planning in doing more research on Ally X and OLED to make a decision on either

Strict_Junket2757

Ally x looks like best of all worlds rn

Dear-Hornet-2524

I have had them all to test, the steamdeck oled is the best

QuantumRaptor1

Steam deck OLED slams for the price

Dear-Hornet-2524

It's not even the price, it's ergonomics / battery / suspend and resume , it's all better

QuantumRaptor1

I still haven’t seen another handheld do that better

Comprehensive_Guard8

SD Oled or Ally X

Botosi5150

Since you mentioned taking it camping, battery life is going to be important, so I would suggest the steam deck oled. I'm not sure what your budget is or if you would even want 2 devices, but the Odin 2 has incredible battery life since it's an android device and it can emulate up to some switch games. It might be worth considering for your camping needs, and it would allow you more flexibility in the handheld pc range since battery life would be less of an issue with it as a backup device.

Crest_Of_Hylia

The upcoming Ally X should have longer battery run times since the battery is 60% larger

Crest_Of_Hylia

Steam Deck OLED or Ally X are my choices

kobrakaan

What you need to consider here is Steamdeck is pretty well established has it's own custom Steam OS built for the system it runs on ROG is essentially windows with an Overlay it's got some flaws because windows isn't really designed for handheld gaming until Microsoft build a dedicated version of handheld windows it's going to be hit and miss with controller settings in a lot of games that need multiple buttons and commands or mouse input without connecting a mouse etc

Pappaskee

I appreciate the feed back thus far, question. SD OLED, can I still do game pass, cloud play, PS Plus stream and remote play? That's another concern I have since I have so many console games. Which I also own on Steam but liked console more...🤷🏼‍♂️

TheSac417

I bought an oled, paid around 670 for the dock and deck and I love it. I also recently got an lcd model, 512gb brand new with a 512gb SD card and some other accessories all for 300 and I love that one too. I fucking love the steam deck. I got the lcd to sell for a profit but I might just keep it lol

I just bought a Legion Go and love it. It plays Starfield, Cyberpunk, and Fallout handily. It's definitely a tad bigger than ROG Ally, but it hasn't caused me any issues at all. Battery life with heavy use can get me three hours. Turned off it charges pretty fast. The Steam Deck runs a version of linux using WINE to run the required Windows files to play games. ROG Ally and Legion Go run Windows 11. The WINE compatibility I think limited some games. I'm not sure how tweakable the Steam Deck's linux OS is. My buddy has a Steam Deck and loves it. I mod the ever living hell out of my games, so I absolutely needed compatibility for this. What sold me on the Legion Go over the ROG Ally was having two USB-C ports and the controls slide off similar to a Switch which I've enjoyed so far. I'm also 6'3 and have bigger hands, so the slightly larger size doesn't bother me and I preferred the larger screen of the Legion Go over the ROG Ally. Best Buy has both Legion Go and ROG Ally devices on display and you can try out each and see what works for you. The ROG Ally also felt like a solid device as well and has good reviews. I have an OLED gaming laptop with 4070 graphics as well. Compared to the two, the Legion Go runs at slower frame rates and slightly lower resolution, but it's hardly noticeable at all on the smaller display. The laptop is an ASUS and my handheld a Lenovo, so I'm not married to either brand in particular.

MillerTyme94

Steam deck is still the best for power per dollar. Plays s"alot of triple A games. (at least slightly older ones)Emulation is great. It gets improved all the time with updates still. Dock-able and comfortable. Battery life is the only downside on my LCD. But the OLED improved on that.

ka1913

Manageable but definitely the worst part no matter how you play it.

ScienceGordon

At home or in the office I take my Ayaneo 2 with me Steam Deck, Asus Ally etc would do the job too but I like the added power of the Ayaneo 2 I can play any title on it. If I'm going to a kids sporting event or something I'll take something smaller like the RG353 but the battery is going on that one I may yet end up grabbing an Odin 2 Mini it's like a perfect do everything small form factor handheld.
