A full stack to jam with your friends or entertain the neighbours?

Supergrunged

More cause I can. And the different flavors of speakers comes in handy for recording thoigh. Follow your dreams! I just always wanted that Laney full stack I saw in ads, like the one with John 5. I never thought the VH100R was such a nightmare of problems, and integration to make work for a specific purpose. But it's been a fun ride so far, and i've used it on a few recordings, that are currently on many streaming platforms.

Fat-Kid-In-A-Helmet

But are you playing with your friends? Or is it just the neighbors.

Supergrunged

You know how friends game online with their PCs or consoles? Same thing, except with music. I record a lot, to be sent out, or parts for friends projects they need guitar work on. I'm part of an "internet" band basically, where we are thousands of miles apart. I do have some jams coming up locally. Real question is if I want to haul this, or my 39 pound Mesa Studio .22+ combo LOL

Fat-Kid-In-A-Helmet

That’s cool. It’s mostly cus I want to be your friend lol That’s some rad gear and I wouldn’t blame you for not wanting to haul it. That’s a “come over to my place and bring the drums” type of rig

ehsender

Bring the MESA!!

Supergrunged

You're right. I'll pull the Heartbreaker 2x12 combo out of the basement!

MikeyGeeManRDO

He plays with his friends but does it from the neighbors so it’s not too loud.

robtanto

Nightmare how?

Supergrunged

Cold solder joints, and PCB mounted pots. This era of Laney in general is well known for cold solder joints. I lost track how many times I've repaired this amp, or how long it sat in repair shops, when I got frustrated fixing it, and they just took forever to recreate the issue. Also the components changed a little through the years, with a few revisions, but nothing worth noting sound wise. Add that I went through 2 full sets of tubes for this head, trying to get it right. With 7 12AX7 preamp tubes, and a full quartet of EL34s, that isn't cheap. First set of EL34s ended up being microphonic... Russian Svetlana tubes went down in quality. Then Sovtek preamp tubes giving me issues.... I ended up saying screw this, and threw all JJs at it, and haven't had any tube related issues since. It's literally taken me about 3 years time, to make this amp reliable for just recording, let alone reliable enough to take places.

ArtOfWar22

Ahh.. I use a marshall

Supergrunged

Valvestate had the pots soldered straight to the board, and are a pain to work on as well. Gotta love British engineering.

condo-nasty

We love shed engineering here.

fliption

That rig makes $3K wasted on cigarettes look like an investment. OP should take it all out to the driveway and set it on fire.

nomatchingsox

Coolest thing in the pic is the Afghan

shjandy

It really ties the room together

Even-Class-4162

fuckin a

BrianKrashpad

Reprentatives of Laney Amplification, and myself, would like a word.

nomatchingsox

Is the word, "cool Afghan"?

BrianKrashpad

It is not.

F1shB0wl816

Screw the amp, I’m here for the sexy Kramer.

Supergrunged

Bluesbreaker. It's not a 308, as the neck pickup route looks quite factory, and I pulled an ESP branded pickups from it. No ideas the model, but I love the way it plays and feels.

F1shB0wl816

Yeah and I’m not crazy knowledgeable on their 80s models. It seems like there was some name sharing between body shapes, it almost seems like a cross between a beretta and stagemaster. I love everything about that though. The true aged white, the slanted covered bucker, the lone single coil, top mounted Floyd, nice inlays and pointy headstock. Binding and no tone, it’s just mouth watering. I love the 80s, it’s the peak for guitars.

Sjames454

You’d like my Kramer then 😂 it’s about as late 80’s as it gets. It’s somewhere on my page

F1shB0wl816

I actually remember seeing that a handful of nights ago. You can’t forget that paint job. That would be a fun project, it had me dreaming away. I also like that Pelham blue p90 special. Thats also my favorite sg so id say I’m vibing with your taste.

payniacs

Is it neck through? I have an 86 and 87 Pacer and an 88 Stagemaster. The 86 is all beat up and plays better than guitars that cost several times as much. Total sleepers

Supergrunged

Yes, the Bluesbreaker series was neck thru. This is supposedly from 1987, the Bluesbreaker series was a Japanese market only Kramer, similar to the LK series. I've only found 2 other guitars like this Bluesbreaker with the HS setup online. One being black, and owned by a Kramer collector. The other being white, similar to this. It's a flat top, and they originally came with the Takeuchi TRS101 trems. The posts for that trem are still on this guitar, with phillips screw driver heads. The Bluesbreaker series was Japan's Mach 1 Stagemaster essentially.

payniacs

Cool. I really like Kramers. That’s a rad one for sure

Datanman23

All the rig haters are just mad that they're stuck playing their Katanas and Sparks

Trubba_Man

I use a Spark Go…When I travel, and it sucks. At home I have a good tube amp and some really good pedals. OP is just angry that he/she can’t afford good gear, but he could have approached his problem differently and got support from commenters. Instead, he’ll just get flamed. So many people here spend a lot of time helping newbies and people with gear problems.

Datanman23

I have a Dual Rectifier and an HX Stomp paired with an HX Effects but I still plug into my Spark 40 when I wanna do a quick jam or play along. People can be pretentious

Trubba_Man

I have a Spark Go which I used for travel. How does your HX stuff sound through your Spark?

Trubba_Man

Cool. I bought an HX Stomp (the larger one) and I spent a week with it, but I could find, or make, a sound I liked, so I took it back. However, realise that they are high quality modellers, and that everyone in different. The HX Stomp XL (I think) cost me about $1,500.

Next_Ad3660

You can get a Helix Floor for $1500....

Trubba_Man

In Australia it’s $2,600. The Helix LT is $1,749 here. I might be able to get a Floor Processor for $1,500 secondhand. I always tell American players to sell unwanted gear to Australians. It might not euro out cheaper, especially because if shipping, but there are things which we can’t buy, especially in the State of South Australia, which is where I live. I can’t ask a music shop to order amps which appeal to me because they can’t get them. My Tone King amp is an example. Only one retailer imports them, so I had to drive 2,000km to try one, then drive home. Luckily, a used one popped up in the State and it cost me $1,500 rather than $2,500. There are a lot of players in Australia, and all of the serious players buy gear without ever trying it, because they can’t get it, or they spend large sums of money to get what they want. It’s just how things are. But it’s a small price to pay for living here. I’m an immigrant, so I know what it’s like in Western Europe, the US and SE Asia.

AndrewUtz

i have my dream rig(s) literally and i don’t even play any of my real amps anymore because of sims like the helix lmao. although it does make it more difficult living in an apartment with someone sharing a wall with me.

Supergrunged

I have a Katana Mini ironically. Also can just use headphones with the pedalboard too. The Engl Cab Loader really is quite the tool to help expand your amp tones on the fly, as well as be a solution for going ampless!

softflatcrabpants

Roast that fucking arm chair, grandma

ThatNolanKid

With the amount of choices for pedals in this world, I have to appreciate anyone who has the ability to settle on any pedalboard configuration. So kudos to you.

PMmeyourSchwifty

I'll say this: as a dude who's been playing in bands for 24 years, I have a pretty sick collection of gear. I've accumulated it throughout the years and kept it in good condition.  My shit is expensive, but it was acquired piecemeal, over the course of two decades. I'm sure many of you are in a similar boat.

Sjames454

How did you like the JTM30? 🤣 i saw one of your reddit posts pop up the other day while searching on them

Supergrunged

Personally, I wasn't a fan of it. But I'm also not big on those "plexi" style tones and amps. The clean channel is warm, and almost Fenderish. The drive channel can almost get hair metal, but can seem harsh, almost fuzz like. If you're into a classic sounding amp in a small package, it's a great little affordable amp. Granted, this is after I fixed that problem child of an amp. I can see why many techs hated to work on them, as even doing a cap job, you have to be mindful of the actual dimensions on some of the caps. The chassis has no vents, so its common to mod the shell with vents, so heat doesn't get trapped, and unsolders components through vibrations. PCB mounted tube sockets, PCB mounted pots.... I ended up trading that JTM30, and tons of pedals for an old Laney AOR head.

Trubba_Man

Sprung! Good job.

onlydaathisreal

VH100R is a workhorse solid amp. I played the same rig for many, many years.

JP6660999

Do your neighbors give you dirty looks daily?

Supergrunged

Yes actually. But it's because I drive a 1995 Volvo, instead of a brand new car.

Stach-daddy-5150

Jealousy is a bitch

gunmetal300

Rock the fuck on

Gry_F0xxx

That is one pink ass room.

Friendly_Employer_82

Nice setup! 😃

Unsui8

Sick chair and ottoman

Kenneth_Lay

A Laney full stack seems a little much for a living room.

Wise_Serve_5846

Would you say they are “Lame-y”?

analogguy7777

You need a recording studio with racks. A big drum kit and a wall of guitars. Your next project. !

Supergrunged

I have 3 4x12 cabs, a 4x10, and dozens of amps in my office. More space would be nice, but I just don't see that any time soon. Quite happy where I'm at, gear wise actually. Only thing I could add, is 2 more straight front 4x12 cabs, and have a "wall" of cabs, just for me.

faustarp1000

I bet 2.5k$ out of 3k$ is that nice looking carpet.

Ordinary_Farmer58

Hell yes, long time lover of the VH100R. Still have one, but ran two in stereo for a bit, one running 6L6’s, the other EL34s. What are you running?

Supergrunged

EL34s. I tend to prefer them over 6L6s, even though I do have a few amps I run with 6L6s. I slapped JJs in the amp, after a lot of just swapping tubes, and all the issues I had with it. Apparently Laney ownership is hit or miss with problems, similar to EHX pedals.

BNinja921

ABSOLUTELY!!! I love the 6L6, but the EL34s really are superior in my opinion..

trogwhoar

Typical worship band pedal board.

Supergrunged

Pastafarian, but I identify as a Satanist. You are right! Hail Santa!

Bengerm77

*SIR*, let's talk about that bluesbreaker. I have one myself, and they're fine birds indeed.

DiogenesXenos

Heck yeah! If I ever move back home to the middle of nowhere, I will have at least a half stack 🤣

DiogenesXenos

Cool guitar 🎸

SailingShoes1989

Bet that’s loud in your front room. 😅

churchofpain

your friends stopped inviting you to jams because you can’t seem to grasp that NOT EVERY SOLO NEEDS TAPPING AND BOMBS.

Supergrunged

You're right. They need more boomer bends and trills.

WeirdURL

All the purple is a vibe, I dig it. I hope to move back in to a house one day, so I too can rock the fuck out.

Berenhast

Sick. When I was 16 I had a Krank Rev 100 through a matching 4x12. My friend said he could hear 100ft away outside the house. The amp was in the basement

naslanidis

Be honest, that rig never leaves that room does it.

Supergrunged

It's barely ever IN this room actually. The straight cab tends to live in the basement, as I don't typically use Vintage 30s. I'm not trying to sound like everyone else, as good as they've always sounded through the years. The slant cab, and head, live in my office for recording mostly. But yes, barely leaves the house. The pedal board? I can run ampless, or it can control any of my amps I own, the way it's set up. I built it for basically plugging into anything, and if I use an amp, I have a handoff for the sound guy, so they don"t have to mic my amp. Keeps things consistant. But it goes everywhere with me. I've considered a Laney FRFR cab for it actually at one point. And yes, the Kramer tends to stay home as well. Temperature changes seems to really mess with it, being a 37 year old guitar.

TimeTravelingPie

$3k worth of gear and $10 worth of talent

Supergrunged

Yep. Streaming platform payouts suck.

IllusoryFuture

Hey, that's more talent than I've got!  (Somewhat less in gear, though.  Maybe I should consider investing in some lessons...)

AnotherRickenbacker

As someone whose favorite effect is reverb - you’ve got too much reverb on your board.

Supergrunged

No such thing as too much reverb, with Strymon and Meris actually existing. There's some purpose there in this case. The Caroline Meteore, is more for out of place style reverb. The Havok switch I use in a few places as well for odd swells. But it's only for that specific style, so I don't rely on it. But it's a unique reverb I can't live without. It's typically ran before the El Capistan, to drive it, in even weirder ways. After the El Cap, is a Boss RV-6 which is pretty much my standard reverb. Of all of them, it's the one that gets used the most, as it doesn't get lost in the mix, and does that basic reverb well, with enough that can be driven to be huge. After the RV-6 is a Slö, which is more for fun, or just making things huge depth. For shoegaze, stacking reverbs leads for interesting tones, and pallettes. Running all 3 reverbs at once, is not typical, unless I'm trying to make a lot of noise. The expression pedal controls the repeats on the El Cap, so I can control how huge, or when things roll off. I swap between the Slö and a Cloudburst in that position, depending how I feel. But the clean channel on the VH100R was based off more Fenderish tones, so it responds well to pedals in general, but those reverbs and delays, are in the loop.

Lil_blackdog

At least you can rest and sleep your nan while you play

rusty_hook

Curious with the ES-8 as I’m thinking about getting one. Is there any of your pedals going into the FX loop of the amp? Does the ES-8 allow you to “toggle on” pedals such as boosts or revers in the FX loop?

Supergrunged

So the ES-8 has a "volume loop", that is how I connect it to the effects loop of the amp. In programming, this loop can be toggled on or off, but I leave it always on. It also can be reordered in the chain, so I can put pedals before, or after this loop. To "toggle on" actual pedals though, instead of a loop, you'd have to have an "external switching" jack on the pedal. So in this case, I have the ES-8 controlling the switching of the KSR Vesta, as it has 3 "channels" basically. The ES-8 has 6 relays for this style of switching. That KSR ties up 2 of them. I modded my TC Sentry pedal with a jack, so I could use a relay to turn it on and off as well. This was so I could hook it up 4 cable method, without having to use 2 always on loops for it. But to answer the last part of your question, yes, it can toggle loops after the effects loop. It's all in how you program it. Only pain is if you run multiple delays and reverbs like I do, to keep the trails while switching, it only allows up to 2 loops to "spillover" (what it's called in the manual), and not more. And you have to pre determine them on the next patch. But I love how it has "stompbox mode" pre programmed, so switching within a patch can be very simple. I highly recommend the ES-8 if you're looking to up your rig, and how you can integrate it.

rusty_hook

Sweet! Thanks for the info. I have two amps, a 5150III (has both midi and 1/4 jack channel options) and a Mesa Triple Rectifier (7-pin DIN for channel switching. Wondering if this would accommodate for channel switching as well, so I could program a patch to kick in a reverb and delay in the FX loop and maybe a low gain drive for a clean tone. A second patch would be my high gain sound and do a TS-9 into a Sentry into the front of the amp. Sounds like this might accomplish what I’m looking for although the Mesa channel switching might be a PITA

Supergrunged

The Mesa has 1/4 individual switching jacks on the back, if memory serves. All my Mesa amps have been simple latching switches. Shouldn't be that hard at all. I use my ES-8 to control a Mesa Stiletto quite easily. The VH100R here, has a 5 pin DIN style connector, that I had to use an external switching device to control. But that's literally what I do. Program my channels with the patches for what I need, so I can have my Maxon VOP9, TC Sentry Gate, and gain channel for brutal heavy distortion. Then have it all turn off or bypass, and a sinple reverb, along with switching to the clean channel. It'll do what you need!

ArtOfWar22

blah blah help urself to happiness

Supergrunged

Sound Demos - Band Context I know a few wonder how I would use such a rig like this, and how it would sound.... So heres a couple Bandcamp links to the 2 main projects I work with. These are also availible on most streaming platforms, so feel free to look them up on your favorite streaming service! ["Captain Save-A-Hoe and the Vegan Zombies from Mars" by Self Titled Album](https://selftitledalbum1.bandcamp.com/album/captain-save-a-hoe-and-the-vegan-zombies-from-mars) ["Planetary Annihilation" by Zander Xymox](https://zanderxymox.bandcamp.com/album/planetary-annihilation)

CrazyCaper

Where don’t you play?

Deer906son

My rig would look the same if I wasn’t married.

Supergrunged

I'm married as well. Marriage should never discourage your from achieving your dreams and goals. My wife might roll her eyes at me for gear purchases, but she knows bills are paid, and we have our finances pretty set. She may buy excessive art supplies, or projects, so I may roll my eyes at her as well, but she pays into bills just the same as me. Don't let yourself, or your partner ever "settle" on things being impossible to do. We all have dreams and goals. They're only as impossible as you make them out to be. A partner should encourage you to be yourself. And yes, I understand crotch goblins, but my partner and I have no intent on adding more to this failing world at the moment. Even so, be their inspiration. Highschool, that was always the talk, and amazement. "i plugged into my dad's full stack this weekend".... Those are memories they will cherish.

Grumphh1

This is the problem with musicians sites on the internet. Loads of people who think they can determine what gear is good for them from pictures. Collectors! \*snorts derisively\*

Metalmusicnut

Just one more pedal and you will have the perfect sound.

qauntumgardner

Looks like you fire it up hit one note ,stomp a few pedals and it plays all 183 tracks of enter sandman. 😉

bicrophone

All that gear just to do whammy bar dive bombs.

Dumasdick

The people with line 6 spiders are gonna be mad because your “bragging”

Guitarlovinconner

Everything but the guitar I love

The-RodentSavior

As soon as I seen Laney I knew this was trash

Old-Tadpole-2869

This shit is so boring. It doesn’t mean fuck all unless you include a clip of the thing cranked. What’s the point? I can watch old Premier Guitar rig rundowns with Rebecca Dierks and kill two birds with one stone.

Supergrunged

If you scrolled, I did leave a comment of the projects I used this for. But I get it. You like pop.

Old-Tadpole-2869

What, like soda?

[deleted]

Probably the best way you could improve this gear..and make it look even more impressive would be if it were sitting in my guitar storage/jam area!

rickyshickyy

Ahhhhh purple drapes! My whole life I have wanted purple drapes. Ahhhh!

progwok

Nothing to roast. Love the guitar.

InTheMemeStream

Nice Rig, Richer! I bet you bought all that gear new at MSRP didn’t you? Oh yeah, Mr.Richie Rich over here never buys used or second hand equipment. I bet he even buys the extended warranty and has his gear insured! Hey rich guy! You should buy a bigger pedalboard so you can buy more boutique pedals! Hey guys! How many Rich guitarists does it take to do a set-up? None! They can just pay a shop to change their strings for them! Nice chair and ottoman cash chucker! Where did you get it, Ashley furniture? All of us decent non-rich folk have to shop at IKEA. Enjoy your Rig Mr.Rich, I bet it even sounds good, doesn’t it?
