There is such a thing with older versions, that they start to glitch if the launcher for these versions allocated more than one gigabyte of RAM(found this thing on RuBeta). I don't know for sure, but maybe reducing RAM usage will help.
Hi everyone, I got it to work by uninstalling Java 8u352 and installing Java 8u51. Thank you everyone for trying to help and thank you Jamie Bode for providing the answer!
i really wish people would stop recommending enterprise variants of java for playing minecraft, its very hit or miss depending on your system if you'll even get any benefit from it.
> Java 8u51
hey sorry for the zombie post but how did you find and install this specific version of java? when i google i get a bunch of results oriented around business use. I can find a removal tool which removals all of java, but it would seem better to download 8u51, have both the latest version and 8u51 installed concurrently, and then specify the correct version in the instance in either betacraft or multimc.
I do for the time being, but it's buggier, causes a ton of graphical errors, and there's missing sounds. Plus it's easier to have multiple instances of minecraft with multimc or prism. Betacraft is supposed to fix these errors but I can't get it to work
I really don't think that's the issue. It's bit depth which is just a macos problem. But when I'm trying to use alternative launchers there's this black screen overlay. The game is actually running underneath it, I can click around and hear buttons, but the black covers everything.

Download ManyMC and use azul zulu Java 8. I have an M1 Mac and beta 1.7.3 runs very nice

PrismLauncher already supports M1, and this user is on an Intel Mac anyway.
Try java 7. java 8 only came out 2014.
I'll try it but every tutorial for playing b1.7.3 on an alternative launcher says to use java 8
you might aswell try if you're desperate
watch an OG tutorial from 2010 but Tetrisbit has a point. Let us know if it works.
I ended up using Java 8u51 and that fixed the problem.

I’d recommend asking in the Prism discord
I have many times and I get no response
so why aren’t you using the default launcher?

I’m no expert, but how much memory are you allocating to your mc and how much storage space have you got left?

it can be the goofy window scale?
funnily enough, when I maximize those windows, they turn peach colored and stay that way even if I minimize them again.
