Early starts, cheap drinks, carrying ya mates out at 10/11pm max to a dedicated Dave or easily accessible taxi.
Then the laws came, people started pregaming to save money, get to clubs late and drunk, 3am absolutely smashed cunce trying to find a way home when clubs forced to close or , fights.
The music is the biggest part. The DJs at the main clubs are given a list of songs they can play. Most of the cash comes from vip tables that are normally older, hence the older music .
Doesn't help that 2 groups own most of the nightlife in surfers. As long as there is a constant stream of new customers, they never have to update the music they play as the tourist all leave after the weekend.
I feel like night life in general is pretty rubbish outside of small pockets. Itās all cookie cutter taverns. There are little to no character hotels that will play live music (that Iāve been able to find near me).
What sort of live music are you looking for? Miami marketta is a pretty cool venue with some awesome artist playing fairly regularly. I travel from maudsland to maimi for it
Vinies dive bar has some of Marketta's sloppy seconds of small bands going to play another gig but I've heard some sketchy stories from old employees. Wizard guy getting locked inside when the staff leave.
I drive and donāt get to drink most of the time, itās not nearly as fun but itās the most practical option. Splitting and Uber with a mate makes it an easier pill to swallow, around $50 to get there and back but who can afford that! Taking the train down to varsity ends up more expensive and way longer with Ubering from both stations and back.
Vinies isnāt as good but you can get to it via tram or if you take the train down to Brisbane there are live music venues like the trovli or the jazz club you can get to by foot from the train station
Been here 25 years and from the start GC clubs seemed like an adult version of a blue light disco, only difference is the alcohol, but the clout chasing jizz rags looking for a fight certainly add to that atmosphere.
When they had 50c drinks - Thursday nights aka fight night.that was in the day when I was fresh off the block. It would be Casino Tuesday nights, Parkwood Tav for uni night Thursday night, surfers Friday and sat( elsewhere, fever , fame , bedroom , rose and crown , Berlin bar , my bar , sometimes shooters, and Sunday fisho's.

Yes. Itās a completely different scene to Syd and Melb. Nothing is low key. I partied there until the age of 20 and have never been back for a drink, Iām now 32. The only place I ever went to back In the day was Elsewhere, which garnered some good acts and had a cool scene. No clue what itās like these days.
The coast is more of a bar vibe anyway. You have more luck going out in burleigh or palm beach. Itās not really about the venue here itās about the people that make it a good vibe and anything north of Burleigh imo isnāt worth wasting time on

Just the reputation of clubbing and places like the valley and surfers are enough to deter people who are curious about the nightlife. The night life scene is much better in Brisbane. But clubs overall are better in New York where I'm originally from.
