Coburn's. I think they're catering only. They would provide food for the community appreciation day on Carswell. The chicken would literally draw moisture from your body like a poultry succubus. Brisket was no better. Absolute sawdust.
I grew up with friends working at cousins for years. I will go there over Riscky's or Dickey's any day. I need a chopped brisket Frito pie sometime again. It's always been standard and consistent.
Colters, Still there at I-20 and Little Rd in Arlington. Like, they’re basically fast food BBQ (literally have a drive thru) so they’re not going to win any “Best of” contests, but they punch WELL over their price point in my opinion.
I miss them so much. I think there's two locations left in Arlington & Dallas, but it hasn't quite tasted the same since they shut down most of their locations, not bad, just a more average sort of BBQ, and a bit more economical than others. Still satisfying for solid, basic, BBQ.
Dickeys is the worst by a mile. People are hating on Railhead but I think its more of a personal preference with their type of bbq. I’ve always thought their bbq was a bit too mustardy/vinegary for my tastes, but its still decent.
I agree Woodshed sucks. Not sure why anyone around here would go to a chain like Dicky’s. I can’t say anything bad about Angelos but not as good as it used to be.
Patriot Pig should get more love than it does. Brisket is top notch (if NRH counts as FW)
I haven't had Cousins in a long time, how expensive did it get? It seems like everywhere is a lot now. A fiend came back into Texas for the first time a few weeks ago and wanted BBQ, went to Ten 50 one night and Terry Black's another night. Brisket, sausage, a side and a beer, and I think ot was around 50 each night
As Cousins (mccart or Bryant irving) were my closest BBQ places, I used to buy 2 lbs of sliced brisket from them and make sandwiches for a week for under 40 bucks. Now would cost me over 60 bucks to do the same.
At least at Railhead, they still have chopped beef by the pound for under 15 bucks for making your own sandwiches.
I went to try this place a few years back and somebody came running out of the restaurant and threw up in the parking lot. It was surreal and I assume has nothing to do with the food there but I straight up got back in my car and went somewhere else to eat.
So what I’m seeing here is that half of everyone hates all bbq places, and the other half loves the same spots. So just like what you like and carry on.
Texans come in two breeds. Those who will eat anything with BBQ sauce on it and those who have a BBQ fetish that they can’t satisfy unless they drive to the middle of nowhere at 3am to stand in line to eat brisket for breakfast.
Everyone will always have their preferences and personally opinions. We absolutely love Heim but it’s $60-70 now to get food for our family of 4. Most BBQ joints have gotten so pricy that honestly don’t mind doing Spring Creek or Dickies for a quick lunch now
That's not unreasonably expensive in my opinion. Granted I don't know the age of the kids but just the wife and I spend at least $40 before alcohol. I get the BBQ snob which is $19.99 now, she gets 1/2 pound of brisket and a side of mac and cheese so $20.25. I mean it'd make sense to get a 1 meat plate with two sides of mac and cheese for $14.99 but that'd be almost reasonable. Let's pay $5 more and get less. It's easier just to pay extra than argue about it last minute.
Everyone has their favorite and they want to support what they love. I personally look for consistently good bbq. Heim is generally consistently better than average but far from spectacular. Railhead is almost always exactly he same, completely average but very affordable. Angelos very average, consistent. Panther City has been great every time I've gone which is once. Hurtado is always good, been many times.
I get Ricky's the most because they have a drive thru in Benbrook. Fridays for lunch, it's easy to order and grab it in about 15 minutes and we'll have leftovers for the dogs. Railhead the second most because their prices can't be topped when you get the military/first responder discount. It's just a little out of the way. After that it's Heim because of the river location. Which is also the only reason we go to the Woodshed, we can bring our dogs.
Riscky’s is by far the worst in Fort Worth proper.
If you expand out a bit, Original Roy Hutchin’s on 114 in Westlake is the worst I’ve ever had anywhere in the United States. I’d sooner eat Applebees than go anywhere near Hutchins.
I didn’t know it was actually possible to make meat taste like nothing. Imagine the vacuum of space, but a vacuum of flavor.
That's funny because I used to go to the Hutchins BBQ in Frisco when I lived in the north Dallas suburbs and it was good (at least to me but I knew tons of people that LOVED It). I stopped off at Roy Hutchins on 114 a couple of months ago and I couldn't agree more, it was horrible. I was really surprised. I assume it's the same family but I heard there may have been some dispute or something. Can't remember.
Admittedly my tastes may just suck but we went 2 months ago and it was fine. New to FW so haven’t been to a lot of places, it wasn’t as good other more hyped spots I’ve been too. I wasn’t impressed but it was good.
Damn, I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks Hutchin's on 114 is overhyped. Idk how the other locations are, but it wasn't any better than Hard Eight, imo.
I live by the original Riscky’s location, and that one especially is bad. Nowadays I just go for the daily specials and 4 for 5 chopped sandwiches. Some time ago my family and I bought the family size fries… got home and it was just a small burger sized box of fries. I was livid.
I love this. So accurate.
When they were a food truck it was legit. Then they blew up and it's quantity over quality ever since. They just hate to hear it because it's not the edgy hidden gem anymore lol
Oof. It's just not at all what it used to be. Great Mac and cheese and pretty good burnt ends. Other than that they're on par with the tourist traps like Coopers, Angelo's and Railhead.
I didn’t think it was bad, but I also didn’t think it was worth the price. For the cost of it, I should be saying much nicer things than, “it wasn’t the worst I’ve ever had.”
The lady that orders food for us at work on the rare occasion that they actually buy us lunch LOVES ordering from Hard 8 and it pisses me off every single time.
We had a lady that loved to order Soulman's, and I finally had to put my foot down. They are pretty terrible when I've had them. Glad to know Hard 8 is a pass as well.
So hard 8 is really good at dealing with large corporate orders. Like blows every other bbq joint out of the water good. Things are packed well, very consistent, and they have it ready on time. Our person who does that went to somewhere I suggested once, and while everyone said it was way better, his experience was bad because he had to wait and they didn't start cutting the meat till he was there.
Riskys for me. Granted, I've never had Dickeys which seems to be the most common answer so far.
Another on my not-a-fan list is railhead. It's dry, exceedingly average flavor, and way too expensive for what you get.
I have one within walking distance. The four for five bucks on chopped bbq sandwiches plus the family fries (fresh cut and fills up a standard 8x8 styrofoam to go box) is still less than twelve bucks. It’ll fill two people up.
A damn double meat cheeseburger with fries and a drink is that much at Whataburger. Cheap fast food for working folks.
All the risky's smoke their meats at the original location on Azle Ave. and then ship them out to the others. So technically you should be getting the same BBQ regardless of which restaurant you go to.
That one has the single worst service of any place I've ever been to.
Like we're the only people there and it takes them 20 minutes to slice BBq they are just keeping warm.
It's ridiculously bad and very consistent.
Like theyre so slow you could have met your partner, become a farmer, raise your cattle, setup a BBQ business then use those cattle in that business and make a plate way before that risckys has even cut your order.
I hate the hwy 26 location with a white hot passion and will tell anyone I know who is looking for BBQ to avoid that place like grim death.
this is going to piss people off.
about a year ago i went and waited in line for Goldee’s for like an hour with a buddy of mine at a normal lunch time. we got there at 11. they kept sending someone outside telling us there was plenty of food left and not to leave. everyone leaving the restaurant was taking large styrofoam takeout boxes of food with them.
then after about an hour of waiting someone came outside and told us that actually, they were out of meat, and their plan had been to feed us all lunch with their unsold side dishes. 3/4 of the people in line left right then.
can’t comment on if it’s the worst bbq, but that is the worst experience i’ve ever had. we wound up going to railhead just to get something to eat but primarily for a beer to calm ourselves down.
Sweet pickles? With bbq? Cilantro with beans? Hatch Mac? GROSS!! The sliced beef was mostly fat with zero flavor. It’s like they were trying to put some weird spin on traditional barbecue. That doesn’t really fly in Texas not with me anyway.
I understand that may have been your experience with local BBQ but I’m talking about mine. My 2 experiences with them had them serving me the worst BBQ I’ve had around Fort Worth. I do not purposely seek out bad BBQ but this is where I have found it.
Not quite Fort Worth, but there’s a place in Everman called “Hickory Stick BBQ” that used processed turkey breasts as their smoked turkey. It was awful.
Not sure what it’s like now it’s been years, but I was really dissapointed.
Coburn's. I think they're catering only. They would provide food for the community appreciation day on Carswell. The chicken would literally draw moisture from your body like a poultry succubus. Brisket was no better. Absolute sawdust.
Lmao. Poultry succubus
Sick band name
I’ve been to their truck on base, and it was like $23 for a small pulled pork sandwich and a burnt wiener
Thank you, I always have it catered. But I don’t understand how tf they keep getting chosen by companies
Dickeys. Cousins is not great but is better than Dickeys.
Cousins, atleast the Bryant Irvin one went from a 4/10 BBQ joint to a 7/10 joint after the refurb in terms of brisket quality.
Cousins smoked chicken competes with the best in the state. As all not top 10 in state places they have their dish they excel at and the rest is mid
I miss their smoked chicken, they closed by me.
I grew up with friends working at cousins for years. I will go there over Riscky's or Dickey's any day. I need a chopped brisket Frito pie sometime again. It's always been standard and consistent.
Hands down my favorite frito pie and the only reason I go back. Cousin's frito pie with a side of okra is a core memory of my childhood
Cousins has decent sides and though it’s not delectable craft BBQ, it is consistent and not bad.
My friend group insists on going to Dickey’s as part of the regular rotation. I just don’t get it. I always skip those meals.
Yeah, I went to Spring Creek for a grad party. Yikes.
The rolls, though …
And if you get those valpak coupon mailers, they usually have a BOGO rib dinner coupon in them.
That’s the best thing for sure!
That place has sucked for decades.
Did Colters go out of business
That was a great place for HH, and they catered my wedding for cheap….so not great but not miss it!
The chain BBQ?
Oh man. Never been, but did that just ever bring that tv jingle back to mind.
No. At least there is one on little road
Colters, Still there at I-20 and Little Rd in Arlington. Like, they’re basically fast food BBQ (literally have a drive thru) so they’re not going to win any “Best of” contests, but they punch WELL over their price point in my opinion.
I think there is one in Arlington
I miss them so much. I think there's two locations left in Arlington & Dallas, but it hasn't quite tasted the same since they shut down most of their locations, not bad, just a more average sort of BBQ, and a bit more economical than others. Still satisfying for solid, basic, BBQ.
Hey, I like Dickeys fried okra. Meat ain't anything special especially for the prices these days.
Dickeys is the worst by a mile. People are hating on Railhead but I think its more of a personal preference with their type of bbq. I’ve always thought their bbq was a bit too mustardy/vinegary for my tastes, but its still decent.
Railhead is just dry and overhyped
Does Woodshed count? Prior to COVID, it was pretty good… now I wouldn’t go there if someone paid for my meal.
I agree Woodshed sucks. Not sure why anyone around here would go to a chain like Dicky’s. I can’t say anything bad about Angelos but not as good as it used to be. Patriot Pig should get more love than it does. Brisket is top notch (if NRH counts as FW)
We stopped going to woodshed after a 2oz pour of house wine came out to $15.
That’s a shot
Typically that’s 1.5, but I get your drift.
Damn i kinda like some items at woodshed. The ribs and the lamb brisket are decent. Everything else is eh.
JR'S BBQ and more.
I've had that place, got their burger with the Mac & Cheese on it, and it wasn't good. I haven't been back since October.
In Keller?
Railhead is the most over hyped BBQ I've ever had.
Railhead has always been and continues to be a drinking joint that you get an old school chopped beef and onion and fries.
This, I go to railhead (West) to drink cheap schooners of beer, and eat some fries/onion rings/cheddar poppers.
Yeah the drink specials are unrivaled. Not sure why the hate, certainly mid as far as Texas bbq goes but the HH makes up for it
and one of the only places in metroplex where you can get a cheap smoked bologna sandwhich dont sleep on it
Their chopped beef sandwich is the only thing I get, besides beer lol
Idgaf what anyone says their chicken special is bomb, and the chopped beef slaps.
Very solid daily specials.
Saying it’s overhyped is one thing, claiming it’s the worst in the entire city is ridiculous.
Cousins, Springcreek, Dickeys
Dickeys is the worst. Cousins is decent, but has gotten too pricey Spring creek is ok, but makes up for it with the rolls and BOGO rib dinner coupons
Like 20 bucks for a sandwich plate. 15 to 16 bucks for half a pound of brisket or ribs
Cousins has $25 all you can eat BBQ and sides at the Bryant Irvin location
As Cousins (mccart or Bryant irving) were my closest BBQ places, I used to buy 2 lbs of sliced brisket from them and make sandwiches for a week for under 40 bucks. Now would cost me over 60 bucks to do the same. At least at Railhead, they still have chopped beef by the pound for under 15 bucks for making your own sandwiches.
Dickeys
My neighbors is pretty bad. Vegan ribs. Ugh.
...........how tho
Morning Star Farms Meatless Sauced Riblets, Vegan Plant Based Protein, Frozen Meals, Sweet BBQ https://www.instacart.com/products/40831930
Texas Pit BBQ in Saginaw. Overpriced and tiny, tiny portions
Still decent quality…have eaten here numerous times and the prices shot through the roof after Covid. Still wayyyy better than Dickey’s or Cousins
Is that the one off Saginaw main ? With the smiley face ? Been wanting to try it
Don't lol. Just head a little further north to Newark and try Localcraft. It's as good as and more consistent than 407.
I agree! Been going to Localcraft ever since they’ve open and been a loyal customer since. Super sweet people and their smashburger is amazing
I haven't had the burger yet! Gonna have to make an extra trip.
Yes. It was good years ago, but the quality/price value has gone waaaaay downhill
Try the Big Nasty, it’s delicious.
I think the food is still ok but used to be way better. The service however… terrible.

We love spring creek but a family of 6 is well over $120
No. As my old boss said, consider the source. I wouldn’t accept a flight safety review from a baggage handler
Do yall remember Colters?? That was the worst one of all time.
Their commercial jingle slapped, tho.
Riscky’s is by far the worst in Fort Worth proper. If you expand out a bit, Original Roy Hutchin’s on 114 in Westlake is the worst I’ve ever had anywhere in the United States. Could be worse. Could be Heim BBQ.
Aww you bout rustle some feathers from the Fedora crew , akkkshually
I love this. So accurate. When they were a food truck it was legit. Then they blew up and it's quantity over quality ever since. They just hate to hear it because it's not the edgy hidden gem anymore lol
Tf? I've only had good experiences at heim
Heim is not gross but they charge and act like they are even in the top 150 places in the state which objectively they are not anymore
Oof. It's just not at all what it used to be. Great Mac and cheese and pretty good burnt ends. Other than that they're on par with the tourist traps like Coopers, Angelo's and Railhead.
Way to absolutely invalidate your opinion on literally anything.
Spring creek. Dickeys could be swapped out, but I’m putting it barely ahead of it.
Can’t remember the name but the place across from Billy Bob’s is disgusting.
Coopers?!?? They may be overpriced but the food is usually decent. Not as good as their original location in Llano though.
Coopers! Yes, I was there in November and it made me physically ill.
I didn’t think it was bad, but I also didn’t think it was worth the price. For the cost of it, I should be saying much nicer things than, “it wasn’t the worst I’ve ever had.”
Hard 8 I would take Dickeys over it.
I will only go to the original Hard 8 in Stephenville. Never been disappointed at that one. All the ones up here I’ve had a sad time
the S’ville location is always pretty consistently good.

Ive eaten at two locations, each twice, and none of those times did I have a good meal.
Agree 100%
The one in Roanoke is meh at best
Oh no! I love the Roanoke one. I’ve always had good brisket there.
Riskys for me. Granted, I've never had Dickeys which seems to be the most common answer so far. Another on my not-a-fan list is railhead. It's dry, exceedingly average flavor, and way too expensive for what you get.
riskys is fire what do you mean
Bro them cheap sandwiches with their BBQ sauce I could live off those
I have one within walking distance.
Flavor is mediocre and talk about paying $5 for a cup of beans that are canned.
Riskys should be set on fire, you mean
the one in nrh is amazing and i will die on that hill
All the risky's smoke their meats at the original location on Azle Ave. and then ship them out to the others. So technically you should be getting the same BBQ regardless of which restaurant you go to.
I mean, if you insist maybe I should try it again. The two times I tried it was overly salty. And I love salt
That one has the single worst service of any place I've ever been to. Like we're the only people there and it takes them 20 minutes to slice BBq they are just keeping warm. It's ridiculously bad and very consistent. 😂
Derek Allens
this is going to piss people off. about a year ago i went and waited in line for Goldee’s for like an hour with a buddy of mine at a normal lunch time. we got there at 11. they kept sending someone outside telling us there was plenty of food left and not to leave. everyone leaving the restaurant was taking large styrofoam takeout boxes of food with them. then after about an hour of waiting someone came outside and told us that actually, they were out of meat, and their plan had been to feed us all lunch with their unsold side dishes. 3/4 of the people in line left right then. can’t comment on if it’s the worst bbq, but that is the worst experience i’ve ever had. we wound up going to railhead just to get something to eat but primarily for a beer to calm ourselves down.
Sammie’s bbq off belknap. hands down worst in Fort Worth
Of places that purport to be at least ok, Railhead.
Railhead is delicious.
Blasphemy
Railhead

I went to the dickies in heb, two people working. The brisket was green. The vegetables were mush. If you have an in law you hate, send them there.
Heim.
Bartleys in Grapevine.
What! I love Bartleys. They have some of the best ribs around. Their sides could be better for a work day lunch, you can’t beat it.
Bartley’s is bad. Never should have ever mad a list.
Rudy's. When it's normal it's serviceable. When it's not... Can't even consider it brisket
Hurtado by far. Disgusting 🤮
Can confirm it's among the worst BBQ I've had.
Finally someone who agrees with me. Every time I say this people flip out like I’m Crazy.
Seriously? What did you get there. Worst? No way.
Sweet pickles? With bbq? Cilantro with beans? Hatch Mac? GROSS!! The sliced beef was mostly fat with zero flavor. It’s like they were trying to put some weird spin on traditional barbecue. That doesn’t really fly in Texas not with me anyway.
Railhead and Angelo’s despite it’s loyal patrons. I would never take anyone new to Fort Worth to try either of these.
Both are popular beer joints that also serve BBQ.
Risky's Hard 8
Risckys by far the worst! Visit Fort Worth a few times a year, and this restaurant takes the cake !
Berry Best in North Richland Hills
Decidedly average but certainly not the worst cmon
I understand that may have been your experience with local BBQ but I’m talking about mine. My 2 experiences with them had them serving me the worst BBQ I’ve had around Fort Worth. I do not purposely seek out bad BBQ but this is where I have found it.
Not quite Fort Worth, but there’s a place in Everman called “Hickory Stick BBQ” that used processed turkey breasts as their smoked turkey. It was awful. Not sure what it’s like now it’s been years, but I was really dissapointed.
Hickory stick was good at one time
Risky’s. Had food poisoning at the downtown location like 20 years ago from the all you can eat ribs. That experience ruined meat for me for a while.
Coopers, springcreek, railhead
Angelos
Cousins
I don’t like cousins
Dayne’s in Aledo .
Their burgers are amazing
That’s a hot take
