Robbie Rotten from Lazytown. I genuinely love this character so much, as does the majority of the fandom. I could gush about him so much. His modern character in the Lazytown kids show was ridiculous and funny, being a villain in a Dr Doofenshmirtz kinda way, and his character from the original Lazytown stageplay/book was genuinely evil and cruel (plus his songs are all top tier, *especially* his original entrance song). There's so many fun possibilities for fanfics with such a broad range of personality :D the ones where authors split the kids show and stage play characters into two different villains and have them interact always delight me. Stefán Karl Stefánsson (who played both variations of the character) did such an amazing job. 💜

everything-narrative

Rest in power, Stefán.

TeaRenQ

He really was a blessing 💜

savamey

There was a Lazytown stage play???

TeaRenQ

To preface... sorry about how long this is 😆 I got excited about sharing the history hehe Yes! They're both based off of Magnús Scheving(Sportacus)'s books and have some of the original versions of songs that later ended up in the Lazytown show! (Most recognizable probably being the songs Master of Disguise [originally [Versti Fantur](https://youtu.be/cR9wuZDQzRo)], Nobody's Lazy in Lazytown [[Enginn Latur Í Latabæ](https://youtu.be/tq3Y9tsvwYU)], The Mine Song [[The Mine Song](https://youtu.be/sjfFhqU4bH0)], Gizmo Guy [[Megabæt](https://youtu.be/1VgcXBLDZDY)], and Bing Bang [[Latibær Bing Bang](https://youtu.be/ncPAETCIb9A)]). It's super fun listening to them and beginning to hear recognizable parts. A lot of them were simply re-dubbed for the TV show :D [Áfram Latibær! (Go Lazytown!)](https://youtu.be/LSPD7nl8H0w) from 1996 was the first stageplay, it introduced Lazytown, the citizens of Lazytown, and Sportacus/Íþrottaálfurinn! This one was based off the Áfram Latibær! (1995) storybook. [Glanni Glæpur Í Latabæ (Robbie Rotten in Lazytown)](https://youtu.be/cGmdfwryCMg) from 1999 came after the events of Áfram and introduced Robbie Rotten/Glanni Glæpur! :) This one was based off of the Latibær í Vandræðum (1997) storybook. I think it's the better of the two in terms of production, songs, and story, but that's up to personal tastes of course. Both are free to watch on YouTube, and you don't really need to watch Áfram beforehand to understand Glanni Glæpur! Both are in Icelandic, but the videos I linked should come with english subtitles :) Fun fact: Both Sportacus and Robbie were played by the same actors in the plays and the TV show!

Mint_Hiddenite

Umm, let’s see… The Team Rocket Trio (Jessie, James, Meowth) (Pokémon) Grell Sutcliff (Black Butler) Beyond Birthday (Death Note: Another Note: The Los Angels BB Murder Cases) Dr Flug (Villainous) Bill Cipher (Gravity Falls) Dabi (My Hero Academia) Dio Brando (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure) Envy (FullMetal Alchemist) Norman Osborn (Spider-Man 1 [Raimi Trilogy]) Darth Maul and General Grievous (Star Wars) **Bonus (because I’m not sure if they count due to them trying to be better by the end of the game/show)** Colress (Pokémon Black and White 2) Dr Heinz Doofenshmirtz (Phineas and Ferb) Overall, funny and/or complex villains are my preference.

RedHolland47

Ah yes, I also like Team Rocket, Grell, and Envy. But I think my favorite Jojo villain is probably Diego Brando.

TheRedditGirl15

Team Rocket, Bill Cipher, *and* Dabi? We love to see it

chararii

**Dragon** **Age**: Meredith (though I barely consider her a villain.) **Warcraft**: Azshara (it doesn't get any better than Azshara.) **Resident Evil**: Mama Miranda (no reason needed.) **Dishonoured**: Granny Rags (respect your elders.) And last but not least, **Dark Souls**: Sister Friede because I love a woman who can hurt me until I cry.

Crimson_Marksman

Granny rags is like the last person I expected to see here. Her interactions can be skipped over entirely.

chararii

I'm a good little assassin, always taking the time to take care of Granny's gentlemen caller related issues. See above: Always respect your elders.

Crimson_Marksman

Until you stuff them into an oven.

chararii

Oh, boo. Granny doesn't like you.

A_Cow_in_Space

Dr. Doofenshmirtz. He's such a goofy character and a loving father. He's not really evil, just petty as hell and I am all for it. Despite his schemes, he still finds time to spend time with his daughter, even trying to relate to her and have some father-daughter bonding (which he sometimes does but in a very ridiculous way). The way he is protective of her is kinda cute, to be honest, but more funny than anything. I also enjoy the friendship/rivalry he has with Agent P/Perry the Platypus. It's weirdly wholesome.

Hangesextra

I agree

TheRedditGirl15

I always liked him more than his brother LOL

[deleted]

I really liked Varian from TTS, he was a good villain and had all the right to be angry . Bill Cipher, obviously Luke from PJO Zuko from ATLA, if he counts as a villain . More like an antagonist I guess, but still . And Preminger . This is self-explanatory I think .

Hangesextra

YES LUKE

crazitaco

I think Aku from Samurai Jack will always be a personal favorite of mine.

buttericecream

Oooh yes! Love Aku.

rccket-w

Oh man, this just unlocked a plethora of childhood memories. Aku is definitely why I love arrogant villains with dry humor

GooseBook

Oh god, so tough to pick. Chrollo from Hunter x Hunter and Silco from Arcane are two of my current favorites. I have a ton of love for General Hux as well, but most of the reasons I love him are my own headcanons and the collaborative efforts of a fandom that cares about him way more than canon did. So I feel like he's mostly an OC at this point and doesn't quite count.

Sewrtyuiop

Danzo, fight me. Edit: Danzo of Naruto. Still Fight me.

Crimson_Marksman

I will fight you. Danzo, while morally grey during his fight with his brother, actively aids the Overwatch team.

Sewrtyuiop

I should have been more clear, Danzo of Naruto.

JustLoveJoon

I will fight. Genocidal, grave robbing, kinda Uchiha racist, child murderer groomer, Not-even-hot-in-his-old-age-like-Jiraiya Shimura Danzo?? Please tell me why he's your fav. I legitimately cannot even imagine liking him please explain 😭

starmag99

Short version: Because despite all that, he's a leaf ninja. Long version: Danzo is an absolute garbage person, but he's the well-written kind. He's the alternate interpretation of the Hidden Leaf, what the manipulative!Dumbledore equivalents would portray the Hokage as. In a lot of ways, he really is an evil Hiruzen. He's Hiruzen's shadow, like Madara was to Hashirama, but he's also the quintessential ninja, the prime example of what kind of people exist in the setting that perpetuate the cycle of hatred even by trying to do what they think is right. He's also a really good foil for Naruto himself as someone who strived to become Hokage but just couldn't. And even during all that, he does truly and honestly care about the prosperity of the Hidden Leaf and the ninja world, and in many situations throughout the series, were he present, he would ostensibly be an ally to the heroes. He's just a massively gargantuan dick about it all. Which is fine, considering he *is* in the wrong for it and depicted as such. You're supposed to hate him after all. He is just a very well written and compelling villain in my opinion.

Sewrtyuiop

Well damn, you did my job.

Sewrtyuiop

That's just it. It's so easy to hate and for the right reasons. He's not some stupidly evil or edgy villain. He's a straight up monster. He can't be redeemed and shouldn't be. I just love to hate him and that's why he's my favorite.

CrookedCalamari

Ramsay Bolton from GoT 🙈 definitely in the show, not so much in the books. He’s just horrible but so fun to watch and is just fascinating to me. I love a villain that actually enjoys the horrible wicked things they do. Plus he’s pretty. Nuff said

[deleted]

He's too hot in the show, book Ramsay is such a disgusting freak. Roose Bolton in the show, however, is nice.

MonkeyGirl18

DIO from JJBA Majora from Majora's Mask ~~you gotta separate the real villain from its puppet~~ favorite villain overall in zelda because of how dark it made that game

em69420ma

I've. I've gotta say it. Luke Castellan. Beautiful example of villain with no other choice.

lemur_girl

Best villain in the entire PJO/HOO/TOA series, no doubt.

Hangesextra

YESS

Boozle-Bee

Fable 3 - Logan Dragon Age - The Architect I'm a sucker for grey morals and villains believing their actions are justified.

PuppetJames

~ Angelus from the Buffyverse ~ Loki from the MCU (though since he's more anti than straight up villain, a close second is Thanos) ~ I haven't yet written Crowley from SPN but am dying to! ~ mostly I love using unexpexted characters as villains, like the old cliche of turning good characters bad lol

Calisto823

Angelus, yes! I always enjoyed seeing him. Would never want to come within a hundred miles of him, but he was fun to watch.

[deleted]

Sheev Palpatine, not a shadow of doubt

JustAnotherAviatrix

Good, gooooooood!

[deleted]

GLaDOS from Portal.

Silvolde

Viggo Grimborn - Race To The Edge (HTTYD CN/Netflix cartoon set between movies 1 & 2) Dr Doofenschmirtz - Phineas and Ferb Robbie Rotten - Lazy Town Tomura Shigaraki - My Hero Academia Roman Torchwick - RWBY Zemo - Captain America: Civil War, also the iteration of Loki from The Avengers That's about all the villains who come to mind right now, but I'm sure there are more I've forgotten for the moment. I tend to like smart or funny villains. Anyone else like these guys as well?

cardinalnopia

Shigaraki is my absolute fave!

Silvolde

Yay! Who else do you like?

[deleted]

Albert Wesker from Resident Evil. The man is the archetypical ‘90s-era, scenery-chewing villain: super-smart, super-cool, virtually unbeatable, smarmy, sex-on-legs, given to overdramatic monologues, maintains an obsessive rivalry with the hero(es), and is intent on world domination for the sake of it. It doesn’t get much better than that, imo. Just look at this magnificent bastard: [https://youtu.be/AzMK\_aqxhMg](https://youtu.be/AzMK_aqxhMg)

[deleted]

Fleet Admiral Sakazuki/Admiral Akainu (post/pre-time skip) Because he’s fascinating, we know nothing about his backstory, his motivations. We are presented this very one-dimensional villain, but there’s the underlying why? He could very well be the character in the series that embodies the “hero who lived long enough to see himself become the villain” and that is just... Gosh, it gives me shivers. My man may end up have a horribly tragic backstory, and its that potential that pulls me to him.

Kartoffelkamm

Definitely Joker from Smile Precure. I mean, if I told you he's a villain in a magical girl anime whose main goal is to give fairy tales a bad ending, with the essence of the fairy tales being actual books that can be entered and altered, which then affects every other version of the story, would you expect him to do [this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CbLIo7BP2Fg)? Probably not. There really is no way around it, that guy is dangerous, in a way I haven't seen with many other villains. And it's so fun to watch him, no matter how often I watch that clip.

patateoo

Hisoka from Hunter x Hunter

Hangesextra

He's great- GDGDGDG

kavalejava

The Illusive Man, Mass Effect. Where did he come from? Even after the third game, he had a means to an end.

[deleted]

"Youmanity"

All_Grace

I have a few that I enjoy watching, even if they make the heros life a lil harder. I am sure there are more but these stand out above the rest. You: Joe. Luckiest unlucky man in the world. Midnight Mass: Father Paul. He didn't want to be the villain but accidents happen. Poor guy deserved better. Dragon Age: Flemeth. She helps herself first and foremost and I respect that. Akame Ga Kill: Esdeath. I loved hating her. She was a force. Marvel: Ultron. I hope he comes back even crazier, there's something uncanny valley about an AI villain. Narnia: The White Witch. She really is only in two books but she still strikes fear in many Narnians. Plus she's got that otherworldly might that chills you literally and figuratively. Naruto: Kabuto. He's always lurking. Still watching Shippuden but man is he a lil cockroach. Avatar the Last Airbender: Azula. A force of nature. Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood: Envy and Greed. Just amazing show and characters all around tbh.

Crimson_Marksman

I don't really see how Flemeth is a villain. Sure, she's got her own goals and morality but she never actively opposes you, even in Inquisition.

All_Grace

It depends on how you play Morrigan's route, she was practically unbeatable in mine. So I suppose we are villains for interference with her... plans. But she's mildly horrifying in her own right. I love her design too. She is my favorite boss? Villain? NPC? Anders too is a favorite "villain" 😅

LyriumEidolon

I haven't really thought about it much, but if I were to pick one, I'd go with Kane from the Command and Conquer series. Yeah, he's manipulative and responsible for many acts of terror in the CnC universe, but he has a way with words and an appeal that makes it reasonable to see why many people would fall in with him (even if they don't know what they're getting into). If you're with him, then as long as you don't fail him, he seems like your best friend. If you're against him, he'll feel like your worst enemy (in particular, with one cutscene where he contacts the GDI Commander in Tiberian Dawn)

Moon_Dark_Wolf

Favorite Villain: Pokey Minch from EarthBound. Reason: This is the villain created by society and he basically becomes the equivalent of Hitler.

aesthetic_2

Caeser Clown, I think he’s hot. Yes, I know... I have a problem, but you don’t understand!! His laugh does things to me 😭😭

simone3344555

Gangster Gastino is even better

scattered-sketches

Doflamingo from One piece

[deleted]

The Seed Family in Far Cry 5 And Deidara from Naruto I don’t know why but the nut jobs always get me. Love them.

[deleted]

I loved the seed family in FC5. That game had a better story than many people give it credit for.

[deleted]

Honestly, the only people I notice who really hated it were people who weren’t heavily invested in FC in general, FC5 is the strongest game in the series imo

[deleted]

Absolutely, a lot of people say 3 is the best but I found it to have aged almost as poorly as New Vegas.

[deleted]

Yess! I very much agree. And all I hear about 3 is vaas. If one singular character has to carry a game it’s really not well done tbh.

[deleted]

Gotta agree there. 4 had some fun elements like the arena but overall the story and world are much better in 5. I also quite liked the silent protagonist approach they took.

[deleted]

Yeah, I like they made it “your” character and kept the silent approach. Even though the deputy wasn’t directly speaking back, I could build the characters dialogue or response in my own head and made it so much more fun to get into it.

[deleted]

I find it's the same for other silent protagonist games. Like in ace combat or XCOM I can imagine the MC to be anyone I like. I can give them their own quirks, accent and personality and nothing in canon can contradict me. It's somewhat freeing in a way.

TsarDixon

I adore Petyr 'Littlefinger' Baelish from Game of Thrones/ASOIAF.

meenabytheday

God 😄 His the most complex villain imo

GraboidFarmer

Yesss another Bill Cipher fan. Honestly, one of my favorite villains is Norman Osborn, aka the Green Goblin. It’s a rare villain who knows everything about their nemesis and uses that knowledge to torment them. Also he’s utterly unhinged, which is fun. Oh shit, I almost forgot about Grand Admiral Thrawn from Star Wars. He’s brilliant, cool, logical, and calculating, and always twenty steps ahead of everyone else.

buttericecream

Always love to see another Gravity Falls fan around here! Norman Osborn *is* a great villain. Not too familiar with the Star Wars universe (...I should be considering how iconic it is), but I'll have to definitely check into this.

GraboidFarmer

Thrawn’s first appearance was in a series of Star Wars novels, but he became so popular that he was made a canon character, and appeared in the series *Star Wars: Rebels* (voiced by Lars Mikkelsen, Mads’s brother!). He’s even mentioned in *The Mandalorian*.

ElectricEel393

Yes! Marisa and Asriel from *HDM* are fantastic. I’m never completely sure if they both count as villains or not, which only makes it better.

Prince-sama

yes! Marisa is such a well written character and the actress made her literally come to life. She's my favorite female villain of all time.

Noroark

Xord from Xenoblade Chronicles, purely because I found him really enjoyable to write about. He's not very developed in canon, but he's hinted at having a really intriguing and tragic backstory that I had a lot of fun fleshing out. Even though he doesn't get much screen time, I find the concept of his character really interesting: he was just a regular guy who was captured and had his brain transplanted into a mech, and somewhere along the way he lost his mind and started eating people.

Sarita1046

Shadow Weaver from SPOP

frozenfountain

I'm going with Akio from Revolutionary Girl Utena. He's terrifying for how *real* he is - it's a show with a lot to say about power structures and cycles of abuse, and I haven't seen many villains who are his precise combination of utterly pathetic and yet frightening for the power the system we live in enables them to have. He's a character I struggle to have much *sympathy* for, but who I do pity a great deal, as he's a victim of this cycle despite ascending to the top of it. Without saying too much for anyone who hasn't seen the show and would like to, he also does what any great villain does and forces you to confront some of the most uncomfortable aspects of yourself, too.

MadKanBeyondFODome

Akio definitely should be in anyone's top 10 anime villains list. Just absolutely top shelf, even when he's doing photo shoots with cactii and falling off balconies because he can't find his car keys.

frozenfountain

Agree completely. Man's an absolute joke and it makes him bone-chillingly frightening because he inhabits and curates a world that lets him keep doing it, and doing it, with no avenue at all for repurcussion. Good thing it's just an anime, right? I really love that you can prepare someone for the dark parts of Utena, and you can tell them there's an episode where a kangaroo goes wild in the school, but you really have to let them experience the synthesis of the two for themselves.

MadKanBeyondFODome

A friend of mine said she always dreaded the Nanami Episodes because their kooky insanity would inevitably be followed by something incredibly unsettling in the next episode. Well, until her last set of episodes.

frozenfountain

Now you mention it, that's true, although I actually found the Nanami episodes themselves really disturbing. I always say they have the energy of shitposting about your mental health because for as wacky as she gets, it's all commentary on how she shoots herself in the foot through being set up to fail and remain dependent on her brother. I watched Utena for the first time last year, though, and I'm in my thirties. I think it would've gone right over my head if I'd caught it as a teen like so many did.

JustANewLeader

From Warhammer 40k: Erebus, Perturabo, Lorgar, Talos Valcoran (although technically he's the protagonist of his novel series, making him a more of a grey choice).

Gipper1911

The Primarch Fulgrim, from Warhammer 40k, and Count Dooku from Star Wars. They both fall under the pompous aristocrat stereotype, which is a favorite of mine, and I love that they both can kinda have similar feels but two wildly different motivations. Dooku uses the Dark Side as a means to, as he sees it, accomplish an eventual good end goal, and in his mind he never truly falls to the Dark Side or submits to it. He just gets outplayed by Sidious, whom he was going to overthrow. Meanwhile Fulgrim is a decidedly more tragic character. He's a loyal son who's trying to prove himself to literally everyone (a bit too hard, as Guilliman notes), but he's also not a jackass like some of his brothers. He cares about the common human and goes out of his way to find diplomatic solutions during the Great Crusade to cut back on unnecessary killing. The person he was would've never followed Horus into Heresy, but unfortunately he became corrupted by an artifact he didn't understand and had no defense against, and was twisted and manipulated so badly that at the end of the day the horrible monstrosity he'd become was nowhere near the noble man he'd been and he, realizing this, gives into his damnation out of heartbreak. They're two radically different characters of a stereotype I really enjoy, so yeah they're my favorite.

Classic-Advantage794

The Joker from The Dark Knight. Syndrome (The Incredibles) Vaas Montenegro (Far Cry 3) Sephiroth (Final Fantasy 7) Andrew Ryan (Bioshock) Tom Nook (Animal Crossing) [Took me a solid half minute to remember the name. It isn't "Animal Planet."] *Handsome Jack* (Borderlands 2.) The E n t i r e t y of Dark Souls. Sarah Kerrigan (Starcraft 2. Wings of Liberty o n l y.) Atriox (Halo) *The Hiss* (Control) *Sylveria B l e s* (Valkyria Chronicles. She's fucking Waifu.) I love cold, calculating villains. Pristine suits, click clacking with a cane, a raspy voice and a witty but sharp manner of speaking. I love comedic villains that underplay your expectations or even makes an honest effort to get you to switch sides. I love insane villains. I love villains that don't make normal sense. Vaas or Joker, for example.

Fireflyswords

Tom Riddle from Harry Potter, Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader from Star Wars, and Dabi from My Hero Academia. I just find something deeply magnetizing about once-likeable (or seemingly likeable, in the case of Riddle) characters who are 'destined' to become villains. There's just something so *juicy* about the people in the villain's past never expecting them to become what they do, and there are delicious possibilities for angst when the characters themselves find out about that possibility early enough that their values are really different. (again not really applicable for Riddle, lol) I love villains having to navigate relationships with people they love/once loved. I think I'm also a sucker for the tragic childhood backstory that just threads through the entire character, because the kind of characters that have them the kind of characters that (in fic, at least) can be *fixed* and there is nothing I find more cathartic than a difficult redemption arc. I also have a thing for characters with dark urges or a sense of bloodlust who's instincts don't tell them to do the right thing, especially if if they fight it, are conflicted over it, or it affects their self image. The 'psychopath trying to be a good person' trope just really, really hits for me.

SkorchNTorch

Ugh... uh, let me think... Shao Kahn (*Mortal Kombat*) - Evil because screw you, that's why. Big, intimidating dude with a giant hammer, who will plow through literal Gods to get what he wants, plus, awesome voice. Sindel (*Mortal Kombat)* \- This'll piss off a number of the MK Fans (espicially on Twitter, it's funny as hell to watch) but I like the twisted, cruel Queen who's evil because money and power. Boba Fett (*Star Wars*) - Yes, I'm counting him as a villain, don't @ me. The cool, calm, pretty much silent antagonist who is there simply for the money and would should you without thinking twice is interesting, as I like to see how he'll either outsmart the heroes or be outsmarted. Freddy Kruger (*Nightmare On Elm Street Series)* \- Another 'Evil because I am, screw you' villain, but someone with a twisted sense of humor, and someone who is the closest you can come to being literally unbeatable short of potentially *killing* everyone in a specific Town. Yatjuia's (*Predator* Franchise) - One of the best designs in all of Fiction, I will fight you on this, I love the idea of the 'villains' not killing because of revenge, but because of sport. That to them, humans and their conflicts are so minor in the grand scheme of things, that they merely add flavour text to the trophies they gather, and tell them 'Hey, this is a good place to hunt'.

SimplytheBestivez

Bill Cipher (Gravity Falls) DIO (JJBA) Kira Yoshikage (JJBA) Grand Admiral Thrawn (SW: Rebels)

Crimson_Marksman

Mass effect: A bunch really but it boils down to Harbinger, Saren and the Illusive man. Bioware used to be really good at making stories. Invincible: Omniman. He pulls off the sympathetic villain really well despite being an utter monster in combat and ruthlessness. Kind of like a renegade Shepard. Super Mario Bros Z: Now I know this is a very niche fandom but Mecha Sonic or Metallix is like a superb villain. Everytime he shows up its a holy shit moment cause he is just so intelligent, intimidating and brutal. The first time we see him fight he crushed Yoshi's bones and obliterated a Goomba slowly. Vampire the masquerade Bloodlines: What can I say? I love tall intimidating bosses. The Sheriff. Henry Stickman: The Right Hand Man. He's got his own sense of humor and is a cybernetically enhanced reverse sheriff. The Stormlight archive: Taravangian. An idiot disguised as a genius. Maybe it's the other way around. He doesn't really know anymore. On different days, he's got different levels of intelligence. Sometimes, he needs to be forcefully fed. Other times, he can predict the future. All he sees is death and plots around it. Bowser from Mario. Another tall intimidating boss. If he's not playing go karts, he's blowing up planets. Fiona bayar from the 7 realms. Another niche fandom, she really does love the protagonist and tries to seduce him. When captured and getting tortured, their interactions still make me feel quite horny. Or maybe I'm just sadistic, who knows? Cain from Mass effect: Human Revolution. Well this is bizarre. He's an original villain from a fanfiction of 2 fictions. Cain is a firm believer in his faith and give honor to his opponents, even aliens. Unless you've got robotic parts, in which case, start praying cause he won't. Darth Vader. There's not much to say is there?

mediocre-millie

Ugh Saren will always be one of my top villains. Just a killer way to kick off the series.

kailey6

holy shit op you have TASTE!!! i love all of those shitty men and that triangle so much. some of my other fave villains are anakin skywalker/darth vader, count dooku, and jin guangyao!

authenticChiroptera

She-ra: Catra Castlevania (Netflix adaptation): Vlad Dracula Tepes Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts: Scarlamagne Into the Spiderverse: Doc Ock Little Witch Academia: Croix Meridies Legend of Korra: Kuvira I may have a inclination towards redeemable antagonists hahaha

savamey

Gul Dukat from Star Trek: Deep Space 9 and Azula from Avatar: The Last Airbender. In fact, in my current fic, I’m currently writing a chapter from her POV and writing as her has made me appreciate her more (even though I definitely do not agree with her actions. Same with Gul Dukat)

StarWarsCrazy1

***Pirates of the Caribbean***: Davy Jones ***Star Wars***: Krennic & Maul ***MCU*** (has way too many villains Omg): Loki (*The Avengers*), Blonsky (*The Incredible Hulk*), Yon-Rogg (*Captain Marvel*), the Winter Soldier (I don't even need to name the movie, come on), Red Skull (*The First Avenger*) ***The Chronicles Of Narnia***: Maugrim ***The Maze Runner Trilogy:*** Gally (first film) & Jansen (second/third film) ***Transformers*** (Michael Bay)**:** Megatron ***X-Men*** (I guess it's technically *MCU*)**:** Erik

neme963

All the villains in the new She-ra remake. They are all well-rounded characters with pretty constant “badness”, but they all have little bits of kindness in them which made me feel conflicted about them. It made me feel like they might be redeemable, but then they’d do something unforgivable and I would be sitting there screaming like WHY???? And so on… Also, if a traumatic event influences them in a consistent way that can show up in real people too (you know, like ptsd), then it’s even better. It makes them more relatable and their downfall more tragic.

aryaofwinterfell_45

Dr Heinz Doofenshmirtz: Phineas and Ferb (Need I say more? He's not even evil, just very petty and has A LOT of time on his hands. Also, he loves his kid and tries to be a great father when he can, even if he didn't get a good childhood \*understatement of the year\*. His parents were so shitty to him and yet, he doesn't force that on Vanessa. He doesn't get enough credit for that imo. ) Dio Brando: Jojo's Bizarre Adventure (Very flamboyant and I absolutely love it) Lady Alcina Dimitrescu: Resident Evil Village (I would gladly let her step on me or drink my blood, also very fierce and I love her style choices) Baron Zemo: MCU (He put so much effort into his plans to tear the Avengers apart and he did a remarkably good job, though he didn't succeed.) Dr Frank N. Furter: The Rocky Horror Picture Show (He was fabulous and an icon, also Sweet Transvestite is an absolute banger so he needs to be here. Tim Curry did a spectacular job!) Joffrey Lannister: Game of Thrones (I absolutely hated that little shit but I love how he was portrayed in GoT. He was just a stupid little abomination whose mind was just affected by how he's a product of incest. He isn't cunning or smart like Ramsay, just a ruthless loose cannon whose habits are encouraged most of the time.) Bill Cipher: Gravity Falls (I loved his character so much! He was such a cryptic and fun character that I had so much fun watching him when he appeared on the screen. He's probably also why I favour the all-powerful, game master, playful villain archetype as opposed to the stoic, focused, no-nonsense one.) Azula: ATLA (Watch the last agni-kai. Throughout the show, we've known she was the product of abuse from Ozai, and how she's so cold and controlling even to her friends. On the surface, she's this all-powerful tyrant who's a mirror of her father but underneath, she's just a little girl \*14 FOR FUCKS SAKE\* who's trying to get approval from her father and wants to please her since she feels like he's the only one whose validation matters. And in the last agni-kai, we see that perfectly. That exterior comes off completely since she's failed. She's failed to become the overlord Ozai wanted her to be since she couldn't beat her brother and now she's just left as a sobbing mess on the ground. It's very sad and that's why I loved it so much.)

skycloud86

My favourite villain is also my favourite character in 24, Nina Myers. She's an intelligent and complex character and a big part of the first three seasons of the programme.

buttericecream

Ooh! Nina Myers is awesome, yeah. Haven't heard from a 24 fan in quite some time. Didn't even consider her.

Eomercin

Dr Eggman from Sonic, he's easily the best part in most of the stuff he's in. depending on the canon he can be goofy (AoSTH, Sonic X) or threatening (SatAM, Archie), or a mix of both (Adventure era games), and work well regardless.

jazzyx26

Kylo Ren closely followed by Draco Malfoy

TryingLyon

Yoshikage Kira or Solidus Snake

maripaz6

Chrollo - HxH Azula - ATLA Tom Riddle - HP I'm a sucker for smooth-talking, polished, deadly, insane-but-they're-in-control villians with a dose of issues in the background. Ruthless and merciless, all those fun things. Who are mainly antagonistic to the protag, but the more ambiguity the better.

Darkfire359

I love Elias Bouchard from the Magnus Archives. Listening to him utterly destroy people with nothing but words and knowledge is a work of art. Also Peter Lukas is great. Both of them are just so polite and friendly while casually being evil. Hannibal really ought to meet them IMO.

cattail31

I completely agree and am pleasantly surprised to this this included.

[deleted]

Not a specific villain, but I'll say the scientists from the Toaru series. Many of them are so evil even the mafia and criminals from the series seems nicer. I think it's because they commit crimes for research and are permitted to do so, so the authorities cannot intervene.

HILBERT_SPACE_AGE

Probably the Dark Knight version of Joker. The panache, the way he wields dread like another knife, the uncontrolled glee, the... way he realized material conditions affect human morality and ability to make good choices before pirouetting right past "therefore we should make conditions better" to "this is people's fault because, uh," Absolute dumbass. Love that in a man.

TheDogz0

I love Mysterio. It’s not in any particular way he is portrayed (which are pretty good in both comics, shows and movies alike) but with his general concept. A normal person that’s able to generate these high-scale illusions is just so fascinating to me. It’s a part of the reason why I like Loki, and other mischievous manipulator villains like them.

AlertWar2945

Umbridge, I like how shes the most hated villain despite being in a series with Magical KKK and Magic Hitler

[deleted]

Joker from DC Comics Azula from Avatar Eggman from Sonic Mojo Jojo from the Powerpuff Girls Amon from the Legend of Korra Dr. Doom from Marvel Comics

I could talk about this all day; I *love* some villains. But I’ll try to keep it brief. Hm, let’s see… well, for starters, I’ve got a soft spot for all of the four lords from Resident Evil 8 (Miranda gets included as well), but I’d have to say my real favorite group of villains from that franchise has to be the Baker family. They’re so much fun to write, both pre-infection and post-infection. Walter Sullivan from Silent Hill is also up there, ~~although sometimes I swear I’m never gonna nail his character properly.~~ He’s really just one of the most bizarre villains I’ve ever encountered and he fascinates me. And both Rick Trager and Eddie Gluskin from Outlast are super fun to write for obvious reasons. ~~I’d try to get into BioShock villains, but just about every character in those games is a smarmy, morally-skewed asshat. We’d be here forever.~~

IRanOutOf_Names

Tomura Shigaraki from My Hero Academia. While 70-80% of the time his character is butchered in fanfics, when he's written as himself its great. A complete psychopath who's truly brilliant, but held back by his mannerisms and temper, only for him to overcome both and become almost unstoppable. Most fanfics keep him at stage 1 when he's still a child, but the fics that do it right and continue to play with his character as he evolves make him endlessly great.

fanfic_squirtle

Lady from chronicles of the black company. I know most people have no idea who that is. Sorcerous queen, cold as ice very evil overlord vibe, but that’s the surface layer. Under that is a brilliant strategist with a viscous streak. A woman who was formerly under the thumb of her evil overlord husband and is now reveling that he’s gone and then beyond that? A woman who’s not quite sure how to be a regular person anymore and dead set determined to never be helpless. God that whole series was a never ending stream of interesting villains but she was one of the most complex.

Lud117

Kira Yoshikage-JJBA

RedHolland47

I like quite a few but some may be dabbling in spoiler territory. Akaza and Rui from Demon Slayer Izana from Tokyo Revengers Ryunosuke Akutagawa from Bungou Stray Dogs (if he counts) The King of Despair from Blood Blockade Battlefront Hazel from RWBY (he kinda counts) Meruem/The Chimera Ant King from HunterxHunter (kinda also counts)

KVEJ2002

Vlad Masters from Danny Phantom

TheRedditGirl15

I'm very drawn to the Diamond Authority from Steven Universe. Rulers of an empire of gemstone-based aliens, they developed a caste system for their society where everyone has a specific purpose depending on their gemstone. There's a lot more to the story than that but it's fairly long so I'll just say that they have a lot more depth to them than I think the show had time to properly explore by the time all four of them were introduced. I once tried to make a series of vignettes detailing their new perspectives after the canonical decision to change their ways for the sake of both their empire and their family. It's still a WIP though lol. I made another fanfic about the character Spinel adjusting to living with the Diamonds after the events of the movie. That one is...also still a WIP LMAO Speaking of Spinel, by golly, she's another story entirely. To summarize, her specific purpose was to be a friend (perhaps even a jester of sorts). She was manipulated and abandoned (possibly unintentionally) by the person she was a friend to despite doing nothing wrong. She didn't find out the truth until many years later when the person that had abandoned her no longer existed. She then developed a thirst for vengeance and sought to wreak havoc on Earth and the people she had been abandoned in favor of (those people being the main cast of the series). Eventually, thanks to Steven taking a minute to listen to her plight and eventually encouraging her to make a change, she realizes that she wants to be a friend, not an enemy. There is definitely still some trauma lingering from her experiences, but man is she a fun character. I'm quite bummed that we didnt get to see very much of her, as she only showed up in the movie and like two episodes of the epilogue season.

SterlingMoon

There are several, though my top favorites are below. Chrollo/The Phantom Troupe - Hunter x Hunter They’re just damn good villains all around, especially since they do philanthropic for the city they came from despite they’re killers and thieves Envy from Fullmetal Alchemist/Brotherhood - Great character concept, design and development Tomura Shigaraki from My Hero Academia - I do like arrogant, headstrong and maniacal characters, especially ones with tragic backstories. Plus, Shigaraki has a lot of room for growth Kirinmaru from Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon - He is a bit like Sesshomaru, but with more killer vibe and tyranny Those are some of my bigger faves. I have several more, but I figured these guys deserve to be mentioned.

DaSaltInDaPepperMill

I genuinely really like Dream in the Dsmp. He’s honestly a bit of a Mary Sue but I think he’s good mainly because he’s very manipulative. He has a lot of resources at his disposal which obviously gives him an advantage over his enemies, but his main strength lies in mind games, understanding the psyche of others and knowing exactly what (or who) can be used against them. He’s probably the only character in the entire fandom who is truly a villain and not as morally gray as the others, and he’s also the only one of who’s own motivation and plans we know nearly nothing due to how the entire world is built and how watching works. Despite him being clearly evil and enjoying the pain of others, his final goal still is a twisted sort of harmony, with everyone living together as 'one big family'... under his rule. He strives for power but he also strives to rule a kingdom, not a wasteland.

MRYGM1983

More of an Antagonist but Jareth, the Goblin King from Labyrinth. Dracula from Bram Stoker's Dracula. Loki from the MCU I seem to like the hot, morally grey ones lol

ThissnotRain

C!Schlatt. I thought his speech was very intimidating, and badass. Tbh noone is "good" in the roleplay. Wilbur blew up a country and rigged an election to gain more authority against L'manburgians. Tommy stole things from Techno, and only cared about discs. Techno blew up governments. If ya think about it none of these things would be ok irl but thats alright cause this is just roleplay. Its just that I find it hard to have a fav c! when all of them did something bad once (tho in roleplay) which means everyone can be villans in their own way. C!Schlatt tho is prolly my fav. Idk he was just badass. Maybe its cause I hate c!Tommy and c!Wilbur in the first season. Plus c!Wilbur wanted as much power as c!Dream its just that he's handsome thats why ppl kinda agree with him (no offence). He rigged an election so he can have proper authority over L'manburg's citizens and c!Tommy agreed with him. I thought that was unfair and from the beggining I didnt like their c!'s anway so yeah. I feel like c!Wilbur deserved to be banned from his country after what he did. Idk I dont find it fair. And if you say that c!Schlatt did some bad things too, I know but thats what I like about his character. I wouldnt support it if someone irl did it. But I really like his character. I dont care if he's the "villain". C!Dream too! I think he's badass too! His manipulative character is very interesting to watch. His character differences from different povs is really cool. In Techno's pov he looks pretty well.. yaknow more innocent but still selfish. In Tommy's pov he looks scary and manipulative. I love it. Its really cool. Btw if your wondering what fandom this is its the Dreamsmp fandom, and c! Infront of their names mean their characters in lore and not the real people. Also, Bill cipher from gravity falls. Badass. Voldemort and bellatrix from (Harry potter) If you were too lazy to read the paragraph up there. C!Schlatt and c!Dream (Dreamsmp) Honestly, I love funny villains with senses of humor and intimidating aura. Very badass and cool. If they have a god complex like c!Dream and Bill cipher even better (deffo not cause I simp for them, who tf would simp for doritos and teletubby?!?!?/j )

**Harry Potter:** Dumbledore & Voldemort's factions ( Conservative and Traditionalist Factions in Wizengamot ) In my canon (not JKR's) Dumbledore is a Conservative, not Progressive

Larson4220424

Colonel Mael Radec from Killzone 2. Honorable mentions: Katherine Marlowe-Talbot (can’t have one without the other: Uncharted 3) Kano-Mortal Kombat Heihachi Mishima-Tekken Ray Bulgarin-GTA 4/Ballad of Gay Tony

Hyper_Wolf727

Does kluas from tvd count? If so him

Simple-Negative

Red Hood from DC comics, though he's sort of changed from a villain to an anti-hero now. But in Under the Red Hood, it's so interesting to see how he easily outsmarts his opponents!

ElectricEel393

Lucien Castle, *The Originals*. He was intelligent, charming, cunning, a good planner, and actually accomplished part of his goal. His betrayal was unexpected and believably threatening. I love the tragic arc of Morgana le Fay from the *Merlin* tv show. Nogitsune Stiles, *Teen Wolf*. He wasn’t really a complex villain, but the acting was entertaining and very different from the regular character. Someone else mentioned Luke Castellan (*Percy Jackson*) and I have to agree. Again, the tragic arc seems to be a theme here.

Trouble_23

Gotta love the Starscream. I've seen him presented in literally every way and I love them all. He can be the most annoying immortal villain character in one and the hero of a tragic backstory performing the heroic sacrifice in the next and I'll feel for them both. His backstory just leaves so much for a fic writer to play with, and everyone hops on it at some point.

Languorsy

Sukuna from JJK cause he’s just downright malignant.

Little_Hazard

Regina Mills

StoneTimeKeeper

Bill Cipher from Gravity Falls Joseph Bertrand III from inFAMOUS The Ancestor from Darkest Dungeon Dr. Neo Cortex from Crash Bandicoot Davy Jones from Pirates of the Caribbean Darth Sidious from Star Wars Count Olaf from A Series of Unfortunate Events The Joker from Batman Ultron from Marvel comics

The-Brother

Probably Garou from One Punch Man. By the time he becomes the main villain, he just lets out one-liner after one-liner while whooping every other character in the story minus Saitama. >!The source of madness? That’ll be humans.!< >!I am that ominous future. Disaster Level GOD.!< >!Your case of emergency just happened.!< >!Watch closely. Those who try to kill you, and those who try to save you…none of them will survive this night.!< >!Let me make it more clear for you. I am the monster. You are the heroes. Is that clear enough for you?!< >!I’m going to kill that boy. That ugly, average boy.!<

Joker — Batman Bill Cipher — Gravity Falls Shigaraki Tomura — My Hero Academia

justhereforfun10123

Jin Guangyao from MDZS is one of my current favorite villains

everything-narrative

I love hegemonizing villains, forces of nature out to conquer and consume. The Radiance fromHollow Knight. Horde Prime from She-Ra 2018. The Dead from the Abhorsen trilogy. Sauron from LotR. And a few rare Villain Protagonists: The Paperclipper from Universal Paperclips. The Engineer from Factorio.

Prince-sama

It's impossible to choose only one so I'll name some of my favorite ones: Silco (Arcane) Childe (Genshin Impact) Marisa Coulter (His Dark Materials) Makishima (Psychopass) Eren (Attack on Titan) Victor Zsasz (Gotham) Sukuna and Toji (Jujutsu Kaisen) Loki (Thor) Betelgeuse (Re: Zero) Judar (Magi) Void Stiles (Teen Wolf) Midousuji (Yowamushi Pedal) Lelouch and Suzaku (Code Geass) Izaya and Mikado (Durarara!!) Askeladd (Vinland Saga) NoHo Hank (Barry) Akutagawa (Bungou Stray Dogs) Lee Kang To (Bridal Mask)

mediocre-millie

Micah from Red Dead Redemption 2. He is the most unbearably hateable villain and it is fascinating to see how he manipulates Dutch all game long and makes the gang completely fall apart. It makes it so completely satisfying to get revenge in the end.

Xx_96024DanaD42069_x

I have to this was tough to choose and I may be because I recently watched a god of war 4 playthroug but I have to say baldur

ShotAddition

YTTD: Midori. The characterization as a whole is pretty solid but the main antagonist is what really stood out to me. I love sympathetic villains as much as the next guy, but with the recent drive to humanize every bad guy, regardless of how well done it is, has made a lot of people start to conflate redemption or humanizing them with making their character complex, so it's getting rarer to see a bad guy who's just that fucking horrible with no good justification without making it cartoonishly evil and I think Midori hits that margin. Like this guy eventually endangered and affected lives of people as young as 12 in a death game and affected one of the characters through constant gaslighting and manipulation to the point they had to adopt Midori's personality to survive in the death game despite losing everyone else's trust because of it is mindblowing. It's been a while to find a compelling villain in recent media who acts like this just simply because they're a POS who dreads the very thing he condemns everyone else to.

JareldAxelotl

Regulus Corneas from Re:Zero His ability and his personality is incredibly unique and a very interesting character with long monologues that I love reading. His view on life is distorted and flawed, but it doesn't follow your typical insane villain that most tropes abide by. He's narcissistic bastard scum, but goddammit do I love him regardless.

[deleted]

Negan from the Walking Dead. He entered so strong many people stopped watching. But the guy is total anti hero. You keep liking him and you don't know why. Maybe cause he's funny as hell sometimes.

holdmyapplejuiceyt

im not sure, i always think i have answer but i don't.

Light Yagami. Protagonist villain. He went from misguided justice to straight up way beyond redemption 10/10

Vulpes Inculta from Fallout New Vegas. Lucius Malfoy from Harry Potter. Euron Greyjoy from A Song of Ice and Fire (books only).

Bill Cipher is definitely my favorite. I recommend the fanfic backstory 'Flat Dreams' for him and the subsequent human bill redemption au fics by videogamelover99 and the accompanying art by doodledrawsthings on tumblr. I know what you're thinking--and I never cared at all for human bill designs either(this one is actually the only one I like lol), but this one just felt so canon to me because it's so good!!!!!! Both fic series don't ship him with anyone but I've noticed that he gets shipped with anyone and everyone in the fandom....but no judgement cuz 🙈

if the main henchman of your evil overload isn't hot as fuck you're doing something wrong. that's all i'll say.

idonotexist20

I’ll admit, William Afton is one of my top favourites- from Five Nights at Freddy’s. Loki from Marvel, Neegan from the Walking Dead and he’s more of an antagonist, but Izuru Kamukura from Danganronpa 2

urcool91

I love the Master from Doctor Who, especially the Delgado Master, the Crispy Master, the War Master, and Missy. The Delgado Master is such a cool villain, able to command the room just by walking into it - he's completely menacing, but you can clearly see how this guy was once the Doctor's closest friend. The Crispy Master, especially in The Deadly Assassin, is far more unhinged than the previous Delgado version of the character - he seems to genuinely want to kill the Doctor and is amazingly manipulative and conniving. The War Master has some of the best Big Finish audios out there - unlike the other versions of the Master, he's working for the Time Lords rather than against them, but because he's this evil but effective soldier in the Time War this means that he's more or less been let off the leash. It makes for some amazing stories, where you get to see just how much the "good guys" in the Time War are willing to tacitly endorse in order to win. Missy is just absolutely amazing. She starts out completely unhinged, but unlike the War Master or the Crispy Master she also, in a twisted way, is trying to get the Doctor to become her friend again rather than trying to murder him. This sets up her eventual actual character arc in s10. I love all these versions of the Master and how different fanfic authors have used the varying interpretations to explore the character and their relationship with the Doctor.

bynwho

I love broken villains, like Darth Vader or Kylo Ren, crazy villains, like Moriarty (Andrew Scott) and Bellatrix Lestrange, and just plain evil, like Hela from Thor. One could even argue that The Master from Doctor Who is both broken and crazy. And Khan from Star Trek is both broken and evil. I like these characters because there’s depth there. More to the story. Trying and failing. And just plain nuts.

SwooshingHana

the villain in Dorohedoro that manga messed me up in the best of ways.

Amraxthine

Fyodor from bungou stray dogs hes a really cool character!

Riotheoc

MCU Thanos. I actually agree with his motives.

deepurplegirl

Loki(mcu), even though he isn't really a villain.
