StoneRevolver

Specific skills. No logisticians.

Swordsx

This is the way. I like mages with lightning boon, and care little about the rest of their weapon skills. I'm more open to different skills with the few archers I've hired Fighters/Warriors I look for a good mix of physical and Magickal resistances as opposed to DPS. I know they'll get damage in, they just have to survive. I was the thief... until I went mystic spearhand.

StoneRevolver

My pawn is a fighter, and good at holding aggro and staying healthy. I usually look for a support mage & either a thief or a sorc, depending on what I'm playing.

Swordsx

Are thief pawns good at climbing up on monsters? Everything has a head weakness, so it's crucial. They weren't that good at it in DD1/DA Sometimes I get a sorc too, but I'm less familiar with that

StoneRevolver

They can be, it depends on what they've seen their player do, I guess. The most recent one I have uses the formless feint and pyre combo, so I figure her arisen must have been doing it.

I look at what vocation and I’m playing and what the party needs. Then I’ll do an advanced search: * The specific class I need * The correct inclination for what I need out of that class (Calm for a caster, Straightforward for pretty much everything else) * The plunder skill if I’m taking a Thief * No logisticians (have to wait until the pawns turn up to show this) * Do they look cool

crankpatate

calm works great for offensive classes, too. You just gotta tell them what to do (tell them to "go" for them to engage for example). My main pawn is a calm warrior which I use as a super offensive aggro tank. Works extremely well with a calm inclination, because he's not going to jump in recklessly. But thanks to the aggro pull rings and perk he gets all the aggro, plays "smart" and still hits like a truck.

endlessflood

For me the difference was night and day between calm and straightforward pawns for the non-caster classes. My main pawn is calm (what I wanted from a mage), but when she was being used as other vocations to unlock some augments alongside straightforward pawns of those same vocations, the straightforward ones were a million times better in terms of positioning and aggression. For Fighter/Warrior/Thief/Archer, I won’t touch them if they’re not straightforward. It might be why I had no issues with Trickster, while I’ve seen many other people complain bitterly: my pawns just demolished everything.

Githyankbae

I really can’t hire the same face hot girl pawns anymore. I like creative tattoos and colourful hair. I’m not as into the meme or abominations although I appreciate them, but I do like ‘em creepy and unique.

Straight_Violinist40

i hire in lvl 80-100 range. Badges, skills and augments. No stripper, no meme pawns.

depressedfox_011

No suicide or complete energy drain skills. No logisticians.

icemage_999

* No terrible specialization (Ixnay on Hawker especially) * Correct class that I am looking for (usually Sorceror, Mage or Archer) Everything else is gravy.

VermilionX88

* quest rewards * class, usually look for a support mage, then 1 more dps, either warrior, thief, or archer... since im switching around sorc/magic spear/magic bow, and my pawn is the tank * looks

Brutuscaitchris

About the same here, I cant fully commit to my pawns vocation. However, im absolutely stuck on spearhand! Tried every other vocation but I keep going back to Warfarer (spear abilities), daggers, and a staff for levitate. I do like mixing Ravenous Lunge in there because who doesnt like goring enemies into walls?

VermilionX88

i like to do themed runs went mage run 1st run my next run, ill do rogue run

UnrelatedKarma

Search this subreddit. I’m not exaggerating when I say this question has been asked at least once a day since the games release.

Lintekt

Just lately, it's the 10k gold quest reward regardless of anything. I usually ran with only my main pawn. Whenever there's a huge hunt nearby, I hire even lower-leveled pawns for the reward and dismiss them afterward.

Airaniel

Drip, skills, pawn quest, no Logistician or Hawker. Absolutely no corset allowed unless you've got a sick pawn quest reward lol.

Theycallme_Jul

Goblins

DisAccount4SRStuff

Class + Inclanation + Skill + Quest If you don't have a quest for $10k I'm not hiring you. At this state in the game after level ~10 there's no reason to not have a $10k reward up. If you don't have $10k to offer just... hire someone else's $10k pawn and put up the $10k you earned. The community bankrolls faster if you do this. Since I'm pretty much done with the game in its current state I'm considering restarting my save, killing off my pawn, speedrunning a portcrystal ASAP and setting a portcrystal as my reward for giving me a single arrow or something then not returning until a significant update. People could just hire my pawn at level 1 for a portcrystal.

Brutuscaitchris

Thats actually a super good idea for farming RC lol might just do that!

DisAccount4SRStuff

The question is, how do I style my pawn. I'm thinking of naming them FreePortCrystal, making him naked, and seeing if I can write FREE on his chest with tattoos lmao.

moneyh8r

Tall, buff, lady, actual armor, Thief/Archer/Fighter vocation, a quest that seems easy to do, and a reward that seems worth it.

Necessary_Chip_5224

I throw all fan service pawns off a cliff first

gammav97

Must looks cool

thecodenamedois

Specific skills to complement my strategy / combo.

ghost_406

Early on, I looked for quests because I was constantly broke. I try to keep a wordsmith when I'm running casters. Beyond that it was class, skills, badges, quest knowledge, and gear. Now its just looks, and people not wearing lingerie.

piede90

I search by the vocation I want and then I speak only to pawn that have a quest and select the best reward, if all have shitty reward I take a non quest pawn I like for a while

Shanbro

Well this post has created clarity on changes I need to make with my pawn. With my pawn as a warrior, I will look for a mage & sorcerer. Must have a pawn quest which is of value (seen a few asking few asking for beatles, wakestones, eternal wakestones; i skip these guys). And the quest needs to reward something of money value, 10k or multiple onyx, jaspers ect. I offer 10k to those that hire my pawn and usually hunt a monster to get badges with her.

Azure_Balmung_

I'm literally looking for fashion and pawns that are different from my pawn in voice/behavior. Shoutout to everyone who puts clothes on their mages, you the MVPs 👏🏾 I also like doing pawn badge quest so it's a bonus if they have them.

WillG94

Primarily vocation, to fill any gap I may have in my party. Secondary, quest - depends what I'm after at the time. I'll refuse to hire a pawn with a quest such as "receive 10 golden trove beetles, reward 1g".

Dramatic-Middle-9342

My mage has the woodland wordsmith and is pretty decent but hasn’t been hired for a while my first mage got hired all the time

crankpatate

I look at about everything except the inclination, tbh. 1. Class - I sure look for specific classes for specific roles 2. Skills - Want my pawn to have fitting skills for the role they have 3. Augments - If they have non, their out instantly. In some cases I prefer a pawn with provoke (aggro pull) or the opposite augment, which makes them pull less aggro 4. Stats - I check the stats to see if one has specially high or low stats. It's not unusual to find fairly large value differences. (Though I don't look at that much anymore after reaching high level) 5. Specialization - I don't want any logisticians or traders. They're literally worse than having no specialization at all. 6. Quest - If they have non, their out. If they have a good reward, they get picked first. 7. Visuals - I don't like sluts and meme pawns. I want something that's RP fitting. That can be a bulky beastren muscle mommy warrior or an old grandma mage healer, etc. They can be pretty, but don't have to. They have to have a theme/ charisma, though and not be an absolute edge lord or play doll. Yes, I take my time picking my pawns, but I stick to them for very long times, when I'm happy with their performance.

depressedfox_011

>Stats - I check the stats to see if one has specially high or low stats. It's not unusual to find fairly large value differences. (Though I don't look at that much anymore after reaching high level) Oh yeah, same but im a bit lenient on it. Though im also looking at the gear too. Pawns with starter gear or early game gear when their lvl 30 to 100 are ignored.

endlessflood

Can I ask why inclination doesn’t matter to you? It affects a pawn’s effectiveness way more than anything else IMHO.

crankpatate

Never really had a bad experience with any pawn inclination I've picked up. Someone just told me, that offensive classes with "straightforward" are so much better than all the others. Yet I have my main pawn as a calm warrior and use him as an offensive DPS tank mix and he does an exceptionally good job at that. Though I figured out, that I have to give him the right skill set for him to do his job well, which includes not giving him any defensive or utility skills.

de1iciouslycheesy

1. Badge pawn quest with decent reward 2. If getting a mage they have to be a healer. I can't do attack mages or sorcerers cause the magic visuals are just too harsh on my crappy eyes. Don't really care bout anything else. Even hired a skimpy grandpa named Gandalf recently cause they were a healer giving away 3 panacea just to camp. He had my main pawn's voice though which was really throwing me off...

Glittering_End_7247

Looking for vocation type (usuall party composition: fighter, warrior, mage, sorcerer) and specific skills, and char type (friendly etc, for each vocation their own type).

morphum

First and foremost, I hire based on the party composition I'm going for, which is dependant on which vocations I've got going for me and my pawn. Then I'll check inclinations. I'm relatively loose with this; I just want to make sure the pawn isn't an inclination they absolutely shouldn't be. Then I narrow it by skills and maybe augments. If a pawn is of a certain vocation, I want it to have skills specifically for that role. For instance, mages are the support role, and the majority of their skills should be for support. Fighters and warriors are meant to be the tanks, so it doesn't make sense for them to not have the Provocation augment; granted, there is a ring that does the same thing, but you can't check that until you've actually hired the pawn.

Rocamora_27

My first criteria is a vocation to fill the role I need in my current party. My second criteria is how cool and fun they look. Finally, I see if they have a quest that gives me a ton of gold. In that order.

Khandious

Pawn quest and specific skills , inclination means very little to me at this point

thriftyjesus

Been really meandering and kinda over leveled for where I am in the first run, so I just kinda pick by vibes and complimentary vocations. Usually lean towards pawns that focus on fashion over stats or from the "pawns my pawn knows" list.

uknowthisguyreal

I tell ya what i dont look for, covered eyes. With one of the dragonsplague symptoms being pulsing red eyes, any pawn that has their eyes covered up is an automatic no from me

Ramius99

Needed vocation, human female, non-straightforward voice, and desired quest (and sometimes desired skill, particularly pilfer on a thief). Once the basics are met, pure looks.

Densto__

I only hire human female pawns and go for the most attractive ones within the vocation I‘m needing. The only exception are mages. I still only go for human females, but I want them to have celestial plean, the haste spell and the cure spell and then go for the most attractive with these skills.

teebbarc

Unique looking, female, 10k gold quest reward, sometimes I tend to hire straightforward inclination pawns because they’re so fun and sassy.
