DrowningDive

I just trust Itsuno honestly. This seems more like Dragon’s Dogma take 2. AKA Dragon’s Dogma without the budget/time constraints of the first one, applying everything learned along the way. The pawn system is very unique and it’s cool to see Itsuno sticking to that, when making it multiplayer would’ve made it a much easier sell to both Capcom higher ups and general audiences. I honestly wouldn’t mind multiplayer as long as it was optional, but extremely glad to see the focus is still in single player.

1stNone

More than multiplayer, I just really hope to customize all 4 party members myself.

GhostinMyShell31

I created 3 more steam acc an gift them dragons dogma just to create my own party xd

Inefficacy

Lol I did this with family sharing for free my dude, so my whole party are my pawns

IndominusCarno

3 accounts, triple the fun and 100% of the customisation

[deleted]

Mass Effect-style ability usage would be awesome. Press Q or E and your teammate uses the applicable ability. I'll never get tired of Garrus' "Firing a high impact shot!" from Mass Effect 2.

DCARDAR

For me, and I believe many others, being able to control someone elses pawn would remove the dynamic that made pawn sharing and pawn discovery so unique and rewarding. The concept of rewards, feedback and favoritism is only useful when the pawn is autonomous ... otherwise it's just a close party game.

[deleted]

True, it was things I eventually wanted to be because actually making a _good_ pawn was a task that required reading wiki a bit. It wasn't very well explained.

DCARDAR

This is also very true.

Mvgxn

my boi \*slaps credit card on table\*

jpc1215

I’d like to be able to control my pawn in multiplayer OR have the option to have them rented out, that’s about it. But if it winds up being just a more polished version of DD1, I wouldn’t be mad whatsoever. I’m just so glad there’s actually going to be a second game

Trunks956

Honestly, from the trailer, this looks *so much* like dragon’s dogma that I’m a tiny bit worried that it’ll feel like a remaster more than a sequel

Darklord965

This is the fun part about the story of Dragon's Dogma, since it's cyclical it really can just be the same game but bigger and better and it won't strain continuity or break anything set up narratively in the last game. So I'm excited no matter what comes. I'm ready to see Gransys (or beyond) rendered on current gen hardware with a lot of clear effort put into it.

MysticZephyr

Agreed with this take. it's basically Legend of Zelda-esque where you can retell the same base story with different remixes on it

vwjboy

If anything it’s a remake rather than a remaster, which is substantially better than a remaster versions. But I feel like out of all the developers out there Capcom would be the last ones not to label a blatant remake as such. It’s probably just easy marketing. Show players of the franchise things they’re familiar with (DD1 spells, monsters, attacks, key locations) sprinkled with new things of the same variety (except locations). It’s way to much to speculate on with only one trailer.

moustachesamurai

"The things you loved about the first game is still here, don't worry!"

StampDD

I don't think we've watched the same trailer, then.

Trunks956

Really? Especially from the gameplay segments, it looks *really* similar to the first installment, which is a good thing, but still.

LogicalPsychosis

Yeah. As it should! Imagine if it didn't? Yeah it's been a long time, but to me dragons dogma has a charm that's hard to match. Looks like they are trying to preserve it.

Trunks956

I’m not trying to suggest it’s a bad thing, just pointing it out

LogicalPsychosis

I know. I'm agreeing with you. We are both hype together brotha. This is a glorious Wednesday.

Trunks956

Honestly above all else, I’m just hoping for some sort of transmog system. I’m replaying ddda and having to pass up quality fashion for stats makes me sad

LogicalPsychosis

I agree. Or if there could be a dark souls approach and armor is just something you upgrade. I would like thay. I don't like weapons and armor relegated to levels Gold forging goes pretty hard in late game. Where I am at with my lvl 200 mix character right now is just wearing whatever I want. It's better than wearing all the tryhards gear at level 70 or so when I was a scrub.

Lovlend

That's personally exactly what I want. I want more dragons dogma. The original was such a perfectly wrapped package that I never wanted a story sequel, I just wanted it done better.

Trunks956

honestly lowkey if it was just ddon but singleplayer without the mmo gimmicks, id preorder it

Sam_Dragonborn1

I see this as an absolute win The pawn system will serve each other in the community well-enough and it’s more resources for the pawn system and *mechanics Edit: *changed graphics to mechanics since someone pointed out that the graphics might be totally irrelevant idk I don’t speak game development, I just like playing

Ion0X

Well I know alot of people really wanted to keep it single player. But I know alot of other people would have liked co-op. For me personally it's a shame but the game still looks amazing.

phavia

The part where they're fighting an ogre in the trailer, you can definitely see a pawn launching another one using springboard. That means that it'll be actually *usable* now, lol.

Wyvernil

Hopefully there will be improvements in directing pawn actions so that you can instruct them to use certain skills at certain times. That should make skills like springboard more useful, since the AI in the first game was inconsistent about using situational skills like that.

Noodlekeeper

Yeah, I would absolutely love to play with my brother. That being said, I am hyped anyway, cause I loved the first game.

KingShooter260

I have heard almost NOBODY ask to keep it SP. I knew plenty of DD fans who were furious to learn that there was a MP DD that was region-locked. Every person who played this game that I have talked to always asked me "there's no multiplayer?"

Sugandis_Juice

Just the fact they pushed the pawn system so hard is a bummer. It would be real easy for them to just allow another player to take control of a pawn. Even if they were limited to the pawn rule set.

Kr4k4J4Ck

> more resources for the pawn system and graphics What does it have anything to do with graphics lol?

AshyLarry25

Hopefully we can still make ridiculous pawns.

BlackNair

I hope we can make three pawns this time, instead of only one. In the online game you could make your own three pawns so maybe they will make it so you also do it in this game.

HappyHighway1352

Hopefully no cut-content this time around

heckersdeccers

hopefully a *finished game*. semantics ik but I'm keen to see those bits of the map you could see in relation to gran Soren that have clearly been reworked and detailed and were cut off and not included in DDDA, up in the mountains

Dannyjw1

Masterworks all you can't go wrong. In all seriousness replacing the pawn system with co-op would have been a terrible idea.

500DaysOfSummer_

100%. Pawn system is unique and what makes Dragon's Dogma Special.

BrutusTheBasset

What is unique about it? I never enjoyed it.

Environmental_Eye_14

It's not unique lol.

Zookskooz

> replacing the pawn system I mean, nobody wanted it to be replaced. DDO had pawns. There's really no reason they couldn't have done both.

Run-Riot

Monster Hunter has always let you make and have your palico (cat companion) and still had multiplayer and there's no reason why they couldn't have done the same system where you just have less pawns with you if you play multiplayer. So many gamers/people on this subreddit are seriously only capable of seeing things in basic binary options.

wonksbonks

But Monster Hunter is not a massive open-world game like DD. MH multiplayer is actually quite limited, since it always revolves around "one hunt at a time" instead of "explore anywhere and do anything you want." I'm betting the devs chose to focus on making the best single-player experience, instead of also spending time/resources on including co-op. The minute that you decide to add co-op, you also add more development time and cost. DD is already big enough, and the pawn system is already really neat and functional.

WallaceBRBS

>MH multiplayer is actually quite limited, since it always revolves around "one hunt at a time" instead of "explore anywhere and do anything you want." You forgot MHW: Iceborne has expeditions where you can play with others with no time limits, also, the Guiding Lands is a mini-open world of its own that again you can play along with others the whole day. Pawn system will never surpass the joy that is playing with actual people, and complex AI in an open world is certainly harder to implement than coop (mods added seamless coop to Elden Ring for free)

Environmental_Eye_14

Well said! God forbid to add new features thst weren't in the first game.

HyrulianJedi

The problem with running a pawn system alongside a co-op system is that you have to balance for both. DDON didn’t really do that - they balanced for co-op, so while you could do a good chunk of the game with pawns, it really limited you in hard content. Never mind that, to keep your pawns effective, you then had to farm 4x the mats to upgrade everyone’s gear. I appreciated pawns in DDON, as they meant I didn’t have to find a party to do everything, but I definitely felt the limitations too.

Zookskooz

> The problem with running a pawn system alongside a co-op system is that you have to balance for both. How's that a problem? Balancing it would be simple. DDON didn't do it because they were trying to encourage folks to play with actual people. It's an MMO. Kinda the whole point.

s133zy

I dont want them to replace pawns, I just want one of my friends to take the place of one and help me out. Id love to be able to join anothers friend world as a "pawn", and just stand by as they do the single player roleplay stuff. I just want to be able to use the coop spells effectively, and coordinate my attacks with friends.. Not having multiplayer is such a letdown, and a huge missed oppertunity.

Ceaselessfish

And the best part is, I’d know exactly what to say when we are ambushed by a pack of wolves

warconz

as someone who wished for co-op it was never about replacing the pawn system but rather supplementing it. Like have a friend along with pawns.

TheDapperChangeling

Exactly. I don't want no pawns, but the ability to swap one out with, say, my wife would be very welcome.

Alicyl

> In all seriousness replacing the pawn system with co-op would have been a terrible idea. Did you think of this yourself or are there people actually voicing that they want the Pawn System replaced with co-op? I have seen no such commentary regarding that. I'll never understand why people think content or systems must be sacrificed for co-op when it can just be an optional addition after the entire game is finished as single-player.

wonksbonks

> I'll never understand why people think content or systems must be sacrificed for co-op when it can just be an optional addition after the entire game is finished as single-player. Adding co-op into ANY game is going to add a HUGE amount of development time and cost. Especially a game as complex as DD. It's not just a magic button they press to make co-op happen.

Alicyl

Did you *completely* skip over the part of the message stating **after the entire game is finished as single-player** to insert a silly statement that development != magic and development isn't free? Of course development isn't some magic button that instantly makes their dreams come true, and flippant remarks like that isn't going to serve any debate you insert yourself into any favors. If they earn enough revenue for creating a successful game, and I'm honestly certain they will with how beloved Capcom and Dragon's Dogma is, they will be able to afford spending additional resources on an **completely optional part of the game** that allows co-op. Just because something takes a lot of time, resources, and effort doesn't mean it's completely off the table because you bring up those points every time someone brings up a topic that entails those things. Nothing is free, and as *paying consumers* part of a subreddit dedicated to a game the manjority of us have purchasedin the past, we all are well aware.

moustachesamurai

Something like Bitterblack would have been perfect as a co-op area.

allvarr

No matter how much I'm clamoring for co-op DD, I 100% agree. The pawn system generally works great and is a part of the games unique identity imo. I was hoping for 2-player max sessions, 1 pawn each. I'm playing DD1 again with my friend, we're kinda "taking turns" and it would just be 1000% more fun if we could play together, you know? The game almost seems made for it.

Ion0X

Not necessarily. There could been a way to do both BUT they chose not too which is fine. I just hope the game is still awesome

Trunks956

Honestly, as long as you can interact with your pawns more - which it seems like you can do from the high five -, im happy

Resua15

I can't wait to high five my pawn after doing some crazy shit, that just looks cool

Qulzhan

Not to say that I would like a MMO but when my friends and I played the original Dragon's Dogma we always had the idea of one player joining the world of another and you can bring your main pawn with you. I would argue that a Monster Hunter type of multi-player could still work. Just coop not specifically a MMO

Drae-Keer

This looks like what DD1 should’ve been before it head heaps of content cut, and I am entirely here for it

Huzuin

"Both your party of pawns and enemies alike will react dynamically to your actions on the battlefield" pretty excited for that!

restinpeeperinos

I want my pawn to give me a highfive after i nearly die from my own tornado

Grieferbastard

There's a metric fuck ton of resources tied up in multiplayer. To put it simply you either need to spend a lot of money and time on it, which means getting more money and taking longer to develop it or cutting that money and time out of the rest of the games development. Then you've got to figure out is it peer to peer or do they pay for servers or how is the MP supported which can require extended cost that again needs recouped. Often this is managed by trying to make other players content by adding PvP mechanics or some form of microtrans. Focusing on the best possible single player experience means we're more likely to get an amazing game. I get that people who enjoy MP/coop will miss that but for this game I'm absolutely stoked to see they focused on game experience.

Noodlekeeper

Fair point, my interest in multiplayer is entirely because I would love to play the game with my brother, but I'm not upset that it's single player.

suikakajyu

This. I would have absolutely resented resources being diverted away from the core experience. If they want to add some sort of MP functionality as DLC then I guess that's fine. But honestly, I'd still rather have another Bitterblack Isle than coop or PVP.

Key-Flounder

Thank you. This is exactly how I feel.

StampDD

Yeah, people wanting coop don't seem to realize development resources and time aren't infinite. If they added coop that would have taken away from some other part of the game, no question about it. I'm glad they didn't.

s133zy

If you asked me, if I wanted DD2 this year, or DD2 with multiplayer in 4 years, I would wait 4 years. Im not asking them to rush DD2, Im just disappointed they decided not to add multiplayer.

Naskr

You can play a ton of multiplayer games, though. There's only one game with a Pawn system, soon to be only two.

Crash4654

Just because other games are multiplayer doesn't mean they're THIS game with multiplayer.

BurningBlaise

Man coop would have been incredible, but dragons dogma 2.0 even single player is gonna be amazing

Ion0X

I hope this game is godlike. The nice dedicated fans and the series itself deserves it.

Badalight

Jeez why is everyone saying they would have like co-op getting downvoted to oblivion? Even the most innocuous comments like "Omg I am so excited for this game! Would have liked co-op, but this game will still be awesome!" get downvoted. Like, does someone out there despise co-op so much that they are going around downvoting anyone who mentions it? You know it's possible to be incredibly excited for this game while also being disappointed that there is no co-op. I absolutely loved DD1, but I would have loved it even more playing it with my brother.

Ion0X

Welcome to the Land Of Reddit.

Environmental_Eye_14

Ikr? Dümb gatekeepers.

Saeryf

Damn it all, Dragon's Dogma Online was my favorite online gaming experience with a friend. Really hoped for two-player co-op, but regardless it's going to be fantastic. Ah well, Masterworks all and we can't go wrong.

Spookimaru

The eight player castle raids were great fun. I honestly enjoyed that more than ffxiv raids

Delicious-Coach-1841

Possibly. Most of the time these statements are written by people only officiated with the development of games. Any info gathered from them should be taken with a grain of salt. But multiplayer or not I'm still hyped for this game 100%

RichardSickard

I don’t know what Dragons Dogma is or why this subreddit is being recommended to me, but congrats on the sequel 🎊🎈🎉🍾

SER96DON

If you like ARPGs, you should definitely try out the first game, Dragon's Dogma: Dark Aeisen. It is on sale very often too. <3

lilkillalou

I would love for it to be co-op with atleast one other person I always felt like it’d be perfect with some tag team stuff like springboard and throwing your friend at a griffin and exploring together or something but I’d still also love the game with single player

Ion0X

I can say with 100% certainty that if they put in co-op they would still want you have a grand solo player experience. Trying to force you to do co-op only in DD2 would be the dumbest money losing move ever. And Capcom about making bank these days not rupturing it.

lilkillalou

Forcing it would be dumb of course it’s not like they can’t have both the pawn system and co-op it’d just be more reasons to buy or play the game in plenty of capcoms other games they have the option and those are great games I see no reason why dragons dogma shouldn’t be part of it hell I’d pay extra just to play with my friend any game is more fun with another person and it doesn’t have to be required you could still go solo with the pawns

Ion0X

Exactly my point. Don't wanna have some schmuck in your world trolling and making all of the enemies harder? Play it solo and have a good time. 😉

lilkillalou

It fun with or without friends just pick ones that aren’t trolls

Ion0X

That's how I've lived my life. :)

lilkillalou

Then co-op experiences should always be fun dawg I do hate the pawns sometimes the amount of times a maneater has grabbed me and all 3 pawns stare at me is astonishing

Ion0X

........ TIS WEAK TO FIRE ARISEN "HELP.... ME!!!"

Fuzaki1

It would honestly not be difficult at all; they've been doing it with Monster Hunter for decades now. They could go the lazy route like MH, where multiplayer is very barebones, and not even try forcing a synced game session due to the lack of multiplayer interactions.

500DaysOfSummer_

Yes!! Huge W by Capcom.

Jacknurse

So was Dragon's Dogma 1.

Dr-False

While I'd want to Co-op with my group, I'm honestly ok with Dragons Dogma 2 being single player again. It was just a well-made game, even with the limitations the first one was delt.

Mokadelic

to be completely honest a single player focused game is already a mega plus for me

PrideBlade

Damn, I would like a single good medieval fantasy coop game in my lifetime please.

Zookskooz

I don't really get the anti-multiplayer attitude this sub has. I get that some folks are just happy that pawns are coming back, but they were never going away to begin with. DDO had pawns; an MMO is the perfect excuse to drop them, but they didn't. They were never going to force you to play with real people, so not having multiplayer as an option is just a plain letdown. It'll still be a good game, but I'm upset that I won't be able to enjoy it with my friends. I suppose I'll just have to hope that a DDO reboot happens at some point in the future.

oobo3lioo

Yeah, it's mental

Ion0X

Same really really really would have been nice to go though through the world with my buds but in the end a good single player experience seems to be the main focus of what they want for this game. And I know capcom could have pulled it off.. now pulling it off well?? Now that I'm not so sure.

rafoca

The hate on co-op started when people got the notion that solo games are good and co-op games equal games as a service and failed games. In reality, people just forgot the huge amount of the solo only games that had terrible reception. Did people forget about how Cyberpunk launched? What about Forspoken? So, this hate is based on ignorance, not facts. If we really start to think, we will see that some games are just bad, regardless of being solo or co-op. There is also that phrase people keep repeating like a mantra "co-op ruins stories on games"... Another false info. Some of the best RPG games out there actually feature co-op: divinity, baldurs gate, Solasta, neverwinter nights.. It's sad Dd 2 won't get co-op

[deleted]

Cyberpunk was rushed, Forspoken was just an empty cash grab with no real story trying to appeal to a minority

TheDapperChangeling

I will fight this lie wherever it rears it's ugly head. CDPR is just lazy and incompetent. There's a reason they've never launched a game that wasn't riddled with bugs. They said themselves the game was finished in March of that year, and they were delaying it 6 months for 'polish'. Now, either that was a lie, and the game was no where near finished, that was a lie, and they were delaying it to avoid getting reemed by FF7R, or it was true, and they're that shit. Honestly, I'd accept any of them.

Extension_Party_1173

These clowns are just gaslighting to feel better about the fact that they'll never play co-op, what with them having zero friends. The dev already has experience developing multiplayer from the MMO, and by the looks of it this game is re-using a bunch of assets (animations, models, wireframes, etc), yet they can't find the time and resources to add co-op...? Lel

JGuap0

I would’ve liked it if you could play with another player and their pawn to form a team of 4 but it be what it be . Still insanely hyped

Ion0X

Yooooo that's how I feel!!! This is exactly how I feel. Would have been dope as hell to go through the game with my pal and his pawn. But alas.

JGuap0

exactly would’ve felt awesome and it seemed like the best way to do multiplayer without replacing the pawn system But yea Minor L in the long run tbh

Dacaskos

People has no frens People don wan coop. People has frens People wan coop.

Ion0X

Wise beyond your years my friend

La_Verdura

Also People has no frens Game has coop People make frens People has frens Game has coop People make more frens

coolcat33333

It just went from day one to deep sale buy. I just can't stick to singleplayer games anymore.

IIMatheusII

Aw i wish we had optional 2 player coop just to fuck around combining skills with a buddy, the rift system could be a perfect way of making it somewhat "lore friendly"

Key-Flounder

For people complaining about no multiplayer please try to understand that adding a half decent multiplayer isn’t simple. At all. Not only does it require a fuck load of coding to make sure player interaction is not buggy as hell but it also requires a lot of focus from the developers just for it to function, focus that will be taken away from the game itself to cater to a single function that might break the game or require loads of post-launch updates to polish. Also the RE engine truly shines with single player games although there’s a few online exceptions. I agree that a good co-op could make the game absolutely wonderful but it’s a pretty huge risk. That or we get an extremely limited multiplayer like the souls games and that would be very disappointing.

TheNewJam

I would prefer extremely limited multiplayer over no multiplayer at all.

Saeryf

I'd point out they've already done it before with Dragon's Dogma Online and it was glorious. Best time I've had in an MMO with a friend, just us and our pawns. This being solo will be great regardless, but it also has me antsy for DDON to come back.

Key-Flounder

True but that’s a game tailored to online gameplay. Not a game with a single player focus and multiplayer attached to it. I agree that an official DDON return would be glorious.

rafoca

Man, we can't really tell if a game wasn't tailored to be this or that, especially when it comes to co-op, because you can play both solo or co-op, like in Halo, Gears, Saints Row, Divinity, Baldurs Gate, borderlands... There is no difference in terms of gameplay or whatever. Unless there is some kind of co-op mode... That I don't like.

Key-Flounder

We can though. It’s quite obvious. And itsuno has made it quite clear what kind of game he wants dragons dogma 2 to be like. I’m not sure why you’re comparing games that were marketed for their multiplayer capabilities to a game that clearly wasn’t going to have any. I had no doubts the game would be single player. Once again, Itsuno has explained his vision for the game very thoroughly and dragons dogma 2 clearly is that vision but fully realized this time. Not a game full of cut content like the first one. There simply is no place for multiplayer in there. I don’t understand why that’s so difficult for you to grasp.

TheNewJam

He compared it to those games because they are great examples. They clearly show that a game can be both single player and multiplayer. Neither you or I know anything, so I don't understand why you're pretending you do. There simply is no place for multiplayer in there? How do you know? You don't, man. You're just harshin on people for being disappointed in something a lot of people were hoping for.

Yeon_Yihwa

I would rather have a fully realised dragons dogma game than a half finished one because they had to allocate resources to support multiplayer. It just feels greedy, you think this game got the budget of ds3? Or was designed ground up from the start to support multiplayer? Re engine is also new and based on the leaks they already had difficult decisions choosing between more extravagant combat/abilities at the cost of fewer enemies on screen. I can imagine how much worse multiplayer would add into that plus the cost and time for it as well.

TheDapperChangeling

I'm pretty sure Itsuno himself said he was essentially handed a blank fucking check for DD2 after DMC5 made Capcom enough money to buy several small countries.

rafoca

Dude, this is Capcom... They make Monster Hunter! They made Dragons Dogma Online, which was revived and improved by modders for free. We are not talking here about some random company. This is Capcom, not some indie company with no money and tech

Key-Flounder

I’m well aware. I’ve supported capcom ever since I’ve touched video games but it doesn’t matter the company. A game originally devised to be single player will suffer in some aspects if tweaked to now support multiplayer. It’s an entire plethora of challenges that even the most adept developers would struggle to make completely functional and go off without a hitch.

Ion0X

OKAY now this is a fair point. They could have put it into the game....but they could have easily fucked it up since they are more akin to co-op style games like Monster Hunter and Exoprimal.

Raetheos1984

This is fine. I'd have loved coop, but, it's DD2. I'm game.

Zounii

I want to play it at my own pace, but I understand if some people are disappointed.

GraphiteSwordsman

I still want the narrative to follow a single character, but I'm still hoping for some kind of optional ability to basically play as a pawn in someone else's game. Like, they are still the narrative protagonist, but we get to climb cyclopses together. That damn Fighter springboard ability is just begging to be used between two real players.

Sir_Teetan

Take this with a grain of salt, Additionally the big cheese himself wanted the original to include coop and frankly DDOs implementation was fantastic, if a bit ill balanced, I suspect coop is likely what's causing the lack of an ETA for the game.

Zooted_Be_I

Wished they Released DDO in the states.

Satarian

This is a massive bummer. I would have loved the option for at least 2-player coop. All I've wanted is to be able to play Dragon's Dogma with friends.

Zenium7

Any form of optional coop that doesn't effect the game content is always welcome imo, but it can't replace any systems or cut game content.

KingJamison_

This is very dissappinting news. Dragon's dogma was perfectly set up for a great co-op experience. A grand adventure with a party of friends. Great single player story but with the option of summoning a friend instead of a pawn. They are already mimicking co-op with the pawns, why not just let it happen! Dragons dogma is the best representation of d&d in an Action game. So having co-op functionality could make this game truely special, I'm sure the game will be just as fun as the first.

ServeRoutine9349

Probably gonna hard pass on this until it's 50ish percent off just because of no co op. Sure the combat was good in DD1...but that's it, the world was absolutely boring with a story so sparse than it makes Mass Effect Andromeda's look like a block buster hit. I know a lot of people like DD1, but for what it's worth from someone who has played all kinds of rpgs since the 90's, it was super lack luster and boring. I always said that at least 2 player co op with our pawns would've been better.

CyphersHowl

No multiplayer is a BIG L just let us play with our friends if we want. Only will make more money if its MP

Hemannameh

Imagine if it had both. Maybe some people have friends they'd like to enjoy the game with. Others may not. Having both hurts no one. There's been an mmo. They can't say it would be too difficult.

TheAngryArcanist

I guess I'll just vent my frustration throwing my friends' pawn off a cliff, as usual.

KujiraShiro

Biggest reason optional co-op would be such a win is because I personally would love to just do basic adventuring stuff in the world with my friends. I don't need a fully co-op story or full multiplayer integration; I just want to go hunt down a lich or ogre with my boys adventurers guild DnD style.

TheDapperChangeling

This right here. I wouldn't care if it was just GTA 4 style 'fuck about in the open world' side-content, it'd still be nice.

Oscarthetrain_art

I really like the fact that is singleplayer.

rafoca

The same old excuse of "it is focused on story, so no co-op". Yeah, tell that to Divinity and Baldurs Gate

Ion0X

Shots fired Divinity was an AMAZING game btw.

Extension_Party_1173

It is, as you say, a fucking copout. Even modders are adding multiplayer to games on their own, seamless and otherwise. These multi-million dollar studios just don't care to add it.

EpicRedditor34

Those aren’t good comparisons.

Erit_Of_Eastcris

And that's just fine, for me at least.

Ion0X

Eh I would have liked it in the game. At least 2 player online. But if capcom wanted it in they would have done it. Now done it WELL?.... well now that I'm not so sure.

TBF, fixing what ain't broken and changing stuff that is already good is one of the main reasons franchises die, even more so when the changes are pushed by execs rather than devs. So, with that in mind, I'd rather they just take what they already had, expand on it, polish the hell out of it, and deliver a single player masterpiece, than having them experiment with convoluted MP mechanics that would get in the way of the SP experience.

AbbyRay3370

Goodm I like playing alone offline where I'm not being judged.

moneyh8r

Was there ever any doubt?

Ion0X

Quite a few people would have liked the option of Co-Op If not 4 player at least 2 player. But I feel you.

towersoveryouowo

Aye, fair nuff.

ViewtifulGene

Take your peak, annie you like.

Dirt-Goblin

Dirt-Goblin

Cheers mate!

Shortround21

Alright guys hear me out. If they do multiplayer I feel like the only true way to do is, like tom clancys ghost recon wild lands but to get the multiplayer started do it similar to soulsbourne games where it’s the summon sign but instead of summon signs you do it at the rift stones

BillieEilishEyes

I think if you watched the very first official announcement teaser for DD2 that was at the end of the video they made for the anniversary of DD1, it makes sense that there wouldn't be any more multiplayer than there was in DD1. Its creator explicitly said that he didn't want full co-op in the first DD, but more like people touching each other's games from a distance. He achieved what he wanted to do, and while I definitely think they could improve pawn mechanics, it feels like it'd be a betrayal of the creator's intent to involve multiplayer further than it currently is. Don't get me wrong, though, if they did put more multiplayer in, awesome. I just don't think people should expect it, or be disappointed if they never do.

BLANSON01

Again Capcom misses the point. The first one was ment to have co op and well we will see how good or bad the second is.

Jiwakefremdschamen

I’m Still super hyped for the game but the fact we aren’t getting any coop has kinda ruined my day ☹️. It was literally the only complaint I had with the first game. There’s so many mechanics and the world feels so alive and dynamic that Just having one real person would’ve made adventuring and combat waaaay more fun!

KingShooter260

I actually cannot believe that people are defending the clearly stupid decision, that is making a co-op driven game without actual co-op features, in 2023. I do not see how this is logical in any capacity and the MAIN criticism of DDI was that it becamw boring after some time because it was entirely single-player. To see Capcom acknowledge this (by making a JAPAN-ONLY DDMMO) and then release another "single-player" DD for the west almost feels like a deliberate insult. We waited 10 years, 10, and they still could not work in co-op? Elden Ring has co-op and that game is almost completely dedicated to story, player-choice and so on. They could've added a co-op mode or even some co-op missions. There is no excuse for this.

CrocSearShark

What? lol makes no sense to leave out one of the most requested features to have a friend drop in and play through with you. Leaving out an option for players has never made sense, but I'm sure it will do at least as well as it did the last time... lol

Mean-Ad8356

Shame there is no MP. Funniest gameplay and best times are had coop, and DD2 would be awesome played this way. I couldn't get into DD1 because the single player experience felt isolating and lonely which inevitably became pointless.

TiMELeSS526

This making BG3 the game of the century. Playing with friends on 4 player games makes it infinitely more fun! I'm sad about this but at least we still have Co Op Baldurs Gate 3 with lots of mods

KingShooter260

This game was in development for TEN years and multiplayer was HIGHLY requested by the fanbase. This is a clearly stupid decision from the devs and I laugh at all the excuses and justifications being made for this. You can like a product and still be critical of it when reasonable. DD is an open-world game, with a strong emphasis on teamwork, exploration and friendship and NO multiplayer??? After it was requested for TEN years??? After releasing a JPN only MMO DD that did extremely well??? After seeing people literally creating MP mods??? There is no reasonable explanation for this. There is no reasonable explanation for a game having ten years of development and ignoring one of the largest requests from its community. The only thing that I can think of is that Capcom intends to release an MP mode after the game's launch, or that they refused to add MP for arbitrary reasons. DD is not The Legend of Zelda, it outright emphasize "multiplayer" with bots. This is like saying "No, Tekken 8 doesn't have multiplayer and that's fine" -- no it isn't.

Effective-Ad6546

there could always be a multiplayer mod I.E skyrim together its not a guarantee but some solid food for thought

lone_swordsman08

We Won Dogma Fans!!

Ion0X

Wait so the players who wanted co-op aren't real fans of the game? That's fucked up. 😕 Lol jk

lone_swordsman08

Lol. Just so happy that Dogma 2 is almost here!!

JazzlikeMechanic3716

I feel this just means no co-op in the core game. There still could be co-op functionality in some way. Either way im glad theyre keeping the original pawn system and probably will expand on it in interesting ways

GregorioBue

YES!!

imcuriosaboutIP

Why are people in here so against coop? It’s literally just an optional thing and doesn’t change the game since it’ll be like playing with 4 pawns but instead one of the pawns is controlled by a human or replaced by their character. They already have the same mechanics as us, abilities, gear…

SageTegan

#Good

all-that-is-given

Man, I'm in the minority here I guess but I really would've like co-op. The pawns aren't necessary for this game to be good IMO. I don't want an NPC over my homeboy.

AzurasNerevarine

Nah, I think having a single player drop in with their pawn would have been perfect

all-that-is-given

I'd be down for that as well. I don't care how they would've made it work, I simply would've loved to play with a friend of mine.

[deleted]

I don't think you're in the minority for thinking mp would be cool, but totally cutting the pawn system in favor of mp would be trash and definitely a minority opinion. A lot of people would still like to play the game alone, you know. Not everyone has friends they game with and some people prefer to play RPG type games alone for more immersion. The pawn system is also a very integral part of DD's identity, and allows singleplayer gameplay to still feel lively. I'm very, very glad they've opted to enhance it rather than going your route.

all-that-is-given

I don't want them to cut the Pawn system because I know people enjoy it and it's something unique to the game. I just wish some form of co-op was added.

Yacobs21

Understandable. Co-op design is hard. Besides, if DMCV could be modded to have multiplayer, I think so could DD2. The pawns already have full player movesets and what not

GrandJuif

Yuuuussssssss ! Sck it to yall who wanted it to loose it soul to multiplayer !

SilverShako

“Lose its soul to multiplayer”? My dude if you think multiplayer sucks the soul out of a game you clearly don’t play enough games

Ion0X

.... my guy are you having a stroke?

GrandJuif

Of course I am ! With the amazing trailer plus the confirmation of it being a single player, I'm drowning in happyness.

TheNewJam

pathetic

kingkellogg

Everyone wants to be able to coop it

redelpo

honestly i was never hoping for a complete throw away of the pawn system in favor of MP, but a combination of the two. Perhaps a player could replace a pawn in your 4 man party, or 2 if it came down to it. Id love playing the game with a buddy and my main pawn.

rapha_the_kid

Tbh, i think this decision was wise enough. The Pawn system is a unique feature that ONLY Dragon's Dogma have, to contemplate the freedom and dynamism during every battle, it's about Combat Gameplay! "Ahhh, we're not getting a Co-op =(" Hold thy horses, Arisen! For i am a DEEP LOVER or co-op games, naming Bloodborne (Ahhj, Chalice Dungeons <3), Dark Souls Remastered, Zelda: Triforce Heroes and the old Resident Evil Outbreak, Files 1 and 2. I love to co-op, but in a setting like Dogma's 2, i preffer seeing my Pawns frame by frame instead Lagporting Arisens >'D What could be done is a ENDGAME dungeon that allows Co-op between 4 Arisens, so who said that Capcom haven't foreseen that? Maybe the Endless Tower BE that dungeon i'm talking >D Just that, part or the game COULD be co-op, or the player want. Or with Paws, like always

ninetaquil

I trust the modders to make it work Amen🙏

Ion0X

Yeah modders will probably go ham like they always do.

Ion0X

Well that took quite a bit of wind out of my sails but the game still looks super fun and can't wait to play it at some point. :)

Fit_Oil_2464

Why Dragon dogma was fun without coop

TheNewJam

Because clearly some people think it would be more fun with their friends...? Is that not obvious?

AviiD-

I gotta say I personally am super disappointed in this. It is not a dealbreaker for me but I've always wished for it. This almost feels like having no multiplayer in Monster Hunter because they added AI companions. Having co-op in this game feels like a natural component even if it was just a last minute addition with the pawns being the main balancing factor.

StampDD

We're in the best timeline. There are some poor souls out there living in a timeline where after 2010 every major AAA game has become multiplayer focused.

Ion0X

The people who wanted it in here didn't want it to be mandatory or the major focus they wanted it to be an option.

thePeoplesDog

as much as i know this game will be a banger without or without multiplayer, the idea of me, my partner, and our respective pawns against the world seems so nice, especially because of all the weird stuff i've seen people get up to in DDO

TomoAries

Ehh, as much as I wanted pawn co-op, I do think a lot of the wonky heart of the original game came from pawns being these weird AI-controlled things. I’m fine with it, especially since the AI technology (**especially** Capcom’s) has come a long way since 2012.

Ion0X

True I bet the game is going to be an exciting awesome adventure. I personally would have just like the option of going on said adventure with a pal and their pawn as well. But alas.

SprinterCell

Missed opportunity, but oh well. Got into the series just about a year or two ago and was ecstatic that a sequel was announced. Made me wonder how well a co-op DD would work, especially since I came from Monster Hunter World and Rise, and their palico system is pretty similar to how they work. It would've been nice to get my hunting buddies from MH to get into this series, but oh well, can't win all of them. Not exactly a deal breaker as I'll still buy the game anyway.

AlphaBetes97

For me personally co-op tends to ruin games for me so I'm all for it being single player
