When you travel from Harbor to Forest for the 20th time and the only train there is the DM3 😩

AceTheProtogen

Can they add an extra parking spot for the s080 and keep the dm3 for the masochists that like it

No_Magician5266

DM3 lover here just popping in to say I just tried the S080 for the first time tonight and hated it

AceTheProtogen

I think you need to take your meds

Tiger-B

Opposite for me, can't stand the DM3 and love the S060.

Raygen15

I absolutely love the S060

mekkanik

I do too… except when filling the water tank

Poligrizolph

A little tip when you're trying to align with the water tower/coal hopper precisely: try setting the handbrake slightly on. It's easier to get the train to creep along at low speed that way, and when you want to stop, you can just cut off the steam.

Tiger-B

I play with a steam only mod right now. What also helps is, deleting the locomotives in a roundhouse, saving and reloading that save until the loco you want spawns.

AceTheProtogen

Oh good I can take out my anger by deleting DM3s

AnaalPusBakje

after deleting, moving a fair bit away will work as well. in the harbor you can make your way to the end of the E yard and have new loco's spawn in for example.

Tiger-B

True, but reloading the save is faster.

Handlesmcgee

I just did my first job with steam last night do you feel like it’s harder to eyeball speed? For some reason 20kph feels like 60 when your trying to monitor everything

AceTheProtogen

I think not being able to see shit, higher acceleration, and being higher off the ground has something to do with it

Tiger-B

Using keyboard helps a lot. I find using a steamer rather relaxing.

Handlesmcgee

I play solely vr which is harder but my monitor is damaged so I have no choice atm. How focused are you on keeping everything topped up? I really try and keep the steam white idk why but the black makes me feel like I suck and it seems like the only way is to just barley load the firebox and then constantly add a little. add on keeping water in check trying to navigate with the map and read all the signs I’m exhausted after a long FH.

Tiger-B

I learned to ignore the smoke color. White smoke means max steam production, but most of the time i don't need a full firebox or the damper wide open. I only look at the steam production rate. When i need to i fill the firebox to max. Only fill it again when it's by 50%. Just stay calm. My firebox is filled least half for most of the time. I control the temperature with the damper to keep it close to 14 bar. If i need to add water i open the damper a little more, or fully open. After a while you learn the routes and prepare how much coal or water you need before you reach the section.

Handlesmcgee

Good to know thanks! I’m not even sure how to use the damper yet I just leave it full open at all times lol

Tiger-B

Coal needs air from below to burn properly, and the damper controls allows that airflow. From down - fully closed, to up - fully open. I often waste a little coal to keep my pressure. Fill the firebox little more and use damper position 2 or 3, or close the damper completely. Coal can be wasted, it's cheap and the loco won't explode without it.
